I love dive bars and consider myself a dive bar dweller. Any city I visit I try to hit at least one or two dive bars on my trip. While visiting my mom in Saline for a long 6 weeks we passed this place many times and finally decided to stop in one night. We were happy to find that the kitchen was still open at 9:30 on a Sunday night. We decided to split the sampler plate appetizer and wasn't disappointed. The bartender was cool, the drinks were strong and cheap, and the few locals in there were friendly. Thompson's has keno which is a big deal to me living in Vegas where you have every other kind of gambling but not keno at a bar. We came up a few Friday's later and the place was packed. They had on the Tigers game and the MSU game. Found a couple spots up at the bar, played some keno, and watched baseball. Around 10pm they started setting up for karaoke but I was tired and didn't feel like staying. I like the vibe at Thompson's and will be coming back on future trips.

Pathetic food was only matched by service. Tried it twice and will never go back. Go or beer only.

The food, though, lands squarely in the "just okay" category. The calamari came with a honey glaze that made them noticeably sweet. If you enjoy sweet‑leaning seafood dishes, you might love it, but it wasn't my favorite combination. The beer, on the other hand, outshines the food by a mile. I had the Heavenly Hefeweizen, and it was excellent smooth, refreshing, and easily the highlight of the meal. I also had the hot chocolate which was tasty and rich, but it comes topped with a giant marshmallow. It looks great for photos, but once you start drinking it, things get messy fast. Service was fine overall, nothing special, nothing terrible. The host, however, came off a bit rude and had us waiting even though there were plenty of open tables. My guess is they're short‑staffed, which might explain the delay, but the attitude didn't help. The bathroom could also use a more thorough cleaning. All in all, it's a nice spot for drinks and atmosphere, but the food and service have room to grow. If you're here for a good beer and a relaxed vibe, you'll probably enjoy it

Our server was quite efficient and pleasant. A bonus was that the manager/owner (?) came over to check on us and have a brief discussion. I had the fish and chips for lunch. I should note here that the restaurant is very accommodating to those who are GF and those who have a few other types of food allergies. As a GF, she really appreciates this. I can only speak to the drinks and service but this was one of the best Amaretto Sours I've ever had! So flavorful and finally one that isn't overly sweet and has a nice crisp cherry taste to it. Our waiter was awesome and very attentive but allowed us to hang out for an hour and a half with just drinks. The rest of the time he was thoroughly scrubbing the floors and every inch of the empty tables. A great sign of cleanliness and attention to detail. I will be coming back to try out the food, the menu was extensive and seemed to have a great variety. I wish I hadn't been so full from dinner otherwise I would've tried something!

They changed the manager…read morefrom Jennifer who was great to Sam who is extremely rude and has backward social communication issues - they scraped the bottom of the barrel for this position to save a few bucks. The attitude of this new management is just plain indifference about giving a good experience and it shows in the quality of the food, condition of the restaurant, and treatment of customers. There are way fewer smiles in this place by everybody. When the owners are out of the building, the Managers lower the customer service standards even lower likely because they believe they are underpaid or unhappy for some other reason. Many of the Saline kids no longer work here. You are more likely to find a dirty table when you dine in than not. The condiment shelves are kept empty, so you have to go up to the pickup counter to get ketchup and wait for somebody to turn around to help you, which can take minutes some times. Half full fries are the rule. I have to ask for topped off fries every third time. You occasionally will get a stale bun too. The new owners don't support the local charities anymore and are not participating in the fundraisers that this McDonalds has supported for years. This was so disappointing. It used to be fun to come here, but now it is just a place to go for convenience.
