Came here to celebrate our friends bachelor and bachelorette combo party. It was a party of 20 and we had fun. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich but the chicken was dry not saucy. It came in a ciabatta bread but it was more bread than chicken meat. My friend next to me said her fries came out cold. My husband had the double smash cheese burger and I had a bite of it but it tasted too beefy and bland did not taste like a smash burger at all. The device was good and we would like to come back and try it again. Hopefully next time we'll sit in the outdoors patio and can order something else. Came here to celebrate our friends' bachelor and Bachelorette combo party. I ordered the double smash cheese burger, but the meat was bland and even after I added salt and the onion ring sauce it was just ok. My wife ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich on a ciabatta bread and she enjoyed it but did say that the sauce was a bit dry. Would try this place again but would order something else. This is what I think of when dining at Dan's Downtown Tavern in Saline, Michigan. My husband and I deserved a night out for a great meal and to relax a little from our hectic schedules. We decided to drive 40 minutes to Dan's Downtown Tavern for dinner. I just want to thank Dan and Sarah for once again going above and beyond with the food and the fantastic crew that have. We were greeted with warm and friendly smiles and hug from our favorite person Jessica. Although she was tending bar that night as soon as she saw us she came and gave me a great big hug and welcomed us back to Dans. Our table was all ready for us Annika was our waitress and she was so accommodating and took care of our every need and asked whenever she went by if we needed anything. We felt like family being taken care of! We decided on the most delicious appetizers of maple loaded potato skins and loaded tater tots! May I say they were so scrumptious. If these aren't Dans signature appetizers they definitely should be! I ordered my favorite cocktail - a Cosmo with Grey goose. It was made to perfection - so I had two! Thank you Jessica!! We decided on the Prime Rib special and we must say it did not disappoint! It was the best prime rib we have had in a very very very long time! Miguel out did himself preparing them for us. The atmosphere at Dans is very relaxing, date nights were happening, families with kids were eating and of course the two of us looking for a yummy meal and place to relax. My husband had his traditional two vanilla scoops of ice cream and chocolate and caramel sauce for dessert that's what he always gets and it was great! Annika brought a spoon for me so we could share - I only needed one taste because we were so full from a fantastic meal! We came into the restaurant on Saturday, July 25, around 1 pm. We wanted to eat outside, went in, and spoke to the bartender, who said she would let the wait staff know. We sat outside for over 15 minutes without anyone waiting on us. As we got up to leave, a man came out and asked, "Oh you're sitting out here?" We said we had been sitting out here, and that we were heading out due to lack of service. He said "You should have let someone know", getting kind of crappy with his attitude. My spouse said "We let the bartender know we were outside". The guy had already turned his back on us and was walking away and was nasty as he threw up his hands and said "Yeah, whatever". We've frequented Dan's several times a year since we moved to town over a decade ago. We get so-so food for the price, indifferent service, and I don't think we see any of the wait staff more than once or twice, believing they have a high turn-over rate. We go to Dans once or twice a month. LOVE their burgers and home made chips. Fun atmosphere, always a sports game on if you need one. Another thing I think is really neat about Dans......is the way they care for their employees. Example:: they were closed on Mother's Day, to give their employees time w family or whatever they needed. This is a very caring gesture! Very Bland food, the Chef there does'nt know what he's doing or how to season things. It's noisy all the time ( hard to even have a conversation ) . Also talked to Dan a few times . he's big Trump supporter. Promised how gas and food prices would go down if we voted for this moron. I won't even drink a beer there. We have been going here for 5-6 years. We always expect it to be busy, as they generally have great food. Tonight we went here to eat with family. We arrived late due to the parade in the downtown area. We did however all order our food at the same time. Knowing they were busy, when 2 orders did not arrive with the rest I assumed they were just running slightly behind. The rest of the party was nearly done eating. We had to stop a food runner/ bar back staff and ask where the remaining food was. Still our waiter had not returned to check on us. No drink refills or beer. I watched the bar back go over to our waitress and talk to her. The waitress then pulled out the order she took and put in the missing order. A few minutes pass and the older of the two female bartender came over and explained that my order had been taken to a different table. I asked so that table has 2 meals? Her response was the other table Is not your problem is it? Unbelievable response, my good eventually came I ate and left. We don't eat out often. We do find ourselves at just a handful of restaurants. Dan's Tavern has been a go to for years. Never again. Your snide response was out of line and unbecoming of someone who relies of customers to get paid. It might not affect you directly today or tomorrow but it eventually bad attitudes don't pay. The building that Dan's is in has real sentimental value to me. It used to be a bar called The Keg and when it was my grandma worked there. She was the bar tender there for many years of my childhood. I have memories of playing in the creepy ass basement, pouring myself a fountain pop behind the bar, pretending like the women's bathroom was my apartment, and probably annoying the shit out of the regulars by playing Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You or Bryan Adam's Everything I Do on the jukebox. But enough about The Keg. Let's talk about Dan's. I love that they've expanded the bar into the following two or three storefronts. It doesn't really feel like that small little hole in the wall that The Keg was. The food is pretty good and the staff is friendly. I'll never say no to going to Dan's, just for the nostalgia and to feel closer to my grandma while I'm there, but also for what Dan's itself has to offer. read more

Had another phenomenal experience here yesterday. Went here for a few drinks and lunch, and again, this place did not disappoint! I tried a few of the beers from their extensive list, and my fiancé had the Bourbon Smash, which was awesome! We ordered the lobster ravioli with grilled shrimp, and it was absolutely delicious! Came with asparagus and the sauce used was absolutely decadent! Our bartender Jessica was absolutely amazing, and we also found out she went to school with my Fiancés daughter, and they knew many mutual people. Made the visit even that more special. Dan's is the definition of great bar food. A seat yourself restaurant with a casual atmosphere. Servers are always friendly and accommodating. I've been a supporter of Dans for years as it used to be the best place to grab a burger around town. However, I'm a little disappointed with the change to smash burgers and removal of their awesome beer battered fries. Instead of one thick burger patty it's two thin patties that are hard to order rare. Just one reviewers option but I will always opt for a thick patty over a smash burger. After hearing good things about Dan's I stopped in heading home from the Irish Hills. It was a Tuesday at lunchtime and the place was pretty full. I sat at the bar and it took a while before a server came around, though once she did, I had my beer (lots of taps to choose from) and placed my food order quickly. I got the grilled chicken sandwich. Not bad flavor, but quite dry. I did appreciate having coleslaw as a side option (fries or chips are the others included in the "base price" of sandwich), and that was enjoyable. Crisp cabbage, creamy but not sloppy. A little expensive for what I got--paid about $15, and burger options are the same. There are taverns that serve a much better chicken sandwich for @$10. But probably not within 20 miles of Ann Arbor. read more

Dan's is a divey towny bar in downtown Saline that seems busy no matter the time of day. Regulars are shouldered at the bar where televisions play either whatever sports games might be on or Keno. Although the bartenders/servers are busy, they are always friendly. Drinks are served strong, so I plan to skip the "double" next time. The menu is comprised mainly of burgers and sandwiches and deep fried options. I am a big fan of the quesadilla. Food is cooked on an open flattop at one corner of the bar. The flattop is cleaned nearly after every order, which reflects a level of cleanliness and detail that you might not expect at a local dive. Overall, Dan's is fun, local watering hole with good food. It was lunchtime on Sunday, and we decided Saline would be the place to meet up with friends to grab a bite. A number of spots were closed for the day, or else had an outrageous waitlist. So I did what I always do when I need a good recommendation and I turned to Yelp for guidance. After reading a few reviews, to Dan's Downtown Tavern we went! The restaurant was pleasantly full when we arrived - not too crowded and not deserted either. A friendly server seated us in a large booth by the window, and we perused the menu. I grabbed a sprite to drink and decided on the Michigan harvest salad for lunch. A short time later our food arrived, and I was not disappointed. For a tavern I had no idea how the salads would be, but this one really hit the mark! Fresh ingredients with a great crunch and delicious flavors meant that I had one satisfying meal. I've always loved Dans downtown tavern. Born and raised in Saline, I could always rely on Dan's to be a place of refuge, solace, and joy. Today, however, I misplaced my trust in Dan's. I told my friends that they "wouldn't regret going to Dans". Tragically, I was wrong. Although the service was excellent (hats off to Bonnie!), the nachos were "bad", "soggy", "tasteless", "underwhelming", "no cheese". For years, decades even, Dan's had the best burgers in all of south east Michigan! A half pound of delicious, juicy, medium rare goodness! Not any more. For some unknown reason, they've gone to smashburgers only. Thin patties that come out overcooked, no matter your preference. Even after Covid, when they raised their prices, we still went there for the incomparable burgers. Sorry, Dan, but no more. This place is terrible. They're understaffed and don't serve food as it's written on the menu. My husband ordered the Michigan Salad and the menu states it comes with chicken. He didn't receive it and then the manager and chef arrived with him over it instead of reading their own menu. When the manager did read the menu she said, "oh yeah, I've been gone for three months." But then proceeded to do nothing. The Cuban we ordered came without mayo, mustard or pickles as it's stated again on the menu. It was disgusting and had a giant bone or rock on it right upon arrival. I felt like I was at a hole in the wall bar not an establishment where I was spending $60 + on two meals and one drink. The server and bartender also never heard of soda water. Had lunch there on 8/11/23, it was the worst experience I have ever had there. All 4 of our meals were barely warm. My $18 brisket cheese burger was missing the cheese and the onion rings were cold. I sent back my meal to add the cheese and it came back over cooked and was sitting on the pile of ketchup next to my cold onion rings. It was disgusting. Do I have to ask for a hot meal? I think not! WTF is wrong here? Sorry I had to send it back but I'm sure it wasn't cooked cold. Our waitress was half the problem for letting the 4 meals get cold before serving them and the cook forgot the cheese then folded the cheese slice in half before adding it and somehow cooked the life out of it. It took a long time and actually came back barely warm. So she screwed up twice. The third screw up was not offering refills on our drinks. We were all dry! Now there's another reason to come to Dans besides the previous ones I've listed in previous reviews; you know the pizza, the burgers. Now, Dans has the "Beyond Burger" which is a vegetarian Burger. I am NOT a vegetarian but that thing tastes really good when you mix it with the right stuff. My wife loves it with peanut butter and I take it sometimes with egg, and then other times I want the real thing. Dan's also has a black bean Burger that's pretty good this is in addition to all their other legendary burgers which are awesome by the way. And don't forget that pizza. I'm sure you already know about the huge beer selection we just helped (almost) finish off Curmudgeon's Better Half by Founders Brewery. You'll have to wait till next year on that one, however when they tell you they've got it... you better not snooze, you better get your butt down there within 72 hours or were drinking at all . Lol. We wanted to meet up with some local friends before a Michigan football game but avoid the Ann Arbor crowds, so our friends suggested this place and it was the perfect choice. There is a huge beer menu, so it took some time to decide on what we wanted because there were a ton of great choices. We were told that burgers were their specialty and several of the folks went for those. I wasn't in a burger mood, so I tried the Georgia Reuben - it was excellent! Great taste, perfect size...I really enjoyed it. The service was also very fast and friendly. It's hot! Sat in the middle room that had the Karaoke setup. No air conditioning but there was a huge fan in the back, blowing forward. Didn't reach the whole room though and all the tables around it were full when we walked in. We ended up in one up front. Don't order water. It's disgusting. I like water with my food and beer by itself but I won't make that mistake again. The burgers are really good. Great beer selection too. Waiter could have been nicer and took a long time for requests. Karaoke book is small and the KJ is nice. System is ok and the crowd is welcoming enough. Update May 2021: (last review was over 5 years ago) Tonight we gave Dan's another try and it was more expensive and tasted much better than it used to. The beef in their burgers is from Knights Butcher and I had a medium well done burger with cheddar that was really great. The fries were skinny and I really enjoyed my meal outside away from the road! It's a very friendly place and was not at all like I remembered from last time. I've eaten at Dan's a couple of times. For pizza and burgers, this is your place. Plentiful patio seating. I do not recommend the "award-winning" chili,. A can of Hormel is more likely to win an award and even after being sent back once, the chili was not hot. Otherwise, I've had good experiences at Dan's. It's a staple of downtown Saline. read more
