Stopped in for the first time ever, the place was fairly busy so I was hoping that was a sign that the food was good...my girlfriend and I were just looking to grab something quick and simple so I got a burger she got a chicken wrap. Fast forward over a half hour later the food finally arrives. To my disappointment it's a frozen puck burger, overcooked, dry with no seasonings at all served with shoestring French fries that were undercooked with a dash of seasoning salt on top. Came here for dinner and trivia and was unfortunately disappointed by both. We both ordered wine and were really disappointed by both the Sauvignon Blanc and the Malbec. Both tasted like they had been open for weeks. For dinner, we got the black bean burger and waffle fries. The black bean burger was super dry and the waffle fries were nothing special. We were also super disappointed by the trivia. It was way harder than we expected compared to other trivia in saline, so we didn't have fun with it at all. read more

Great local restaurant/bar. They are usually very busy on a weekend night but you won't wait too long for a seat. We were there when they opened for lunch and found a table right away. Quick & friendly service Huge menu and a nice variety on the kids menu. I love their Ruben sandwich...nothing fancy just a good tasting sandwich. The pizza takes a little while to bake but it worth it. Ordering a beer? Make sure to order a "pony" to share or enjoy by yourself. They are a special price on Saturday but I'm not sure of the price. If I could give zero stars I would. The servers were working so hard but the older gentlemen, I'm assuming it was the owner was very unprofessional. He yells and disrespects his staff. He is not friendly and almost seems to act like he is better then the guests coming in and giving his establishment business. The food I ordered came out wrong and burnt. Not one member of the management came out to apologize. The server seemed distraught about the problem and tried to fix it, but since the managers were no where to be found except the loud obnoxious older man screaming at his staff-which I wouldn't want him at my table anyway-I left very unhappy. Dan's didn't disappoint. Went with a few coworkers and we sat at a nice table by the window. The service was really good and the $3 dollar draft special for a 16 ounce on a Monday was a good deal. We had the buffalo chicken dip and jalapeño poppers for apps. The jalapeño peppers were kind of hard but the buffalo chicken dip was tasty. After some fried apps, I decided to go a little lighter for dinner and the Harvest salad was a good choice. I'm always a little skeptical when they bring out a packet of vinaigrette but it was satisfying. From the front, you'd think this place was just tiny, but once you get indoors - whoa! this place has a sports-bar style side & a family seated restaurant side & even has a back patio you'd never guess was there! The food is absolutely scrumptious, servers are excellent and sooooo many beer options available!! Best tip about this place: This is the first time I had ever tried a Peanut Butter Burger, but gave it a go & was delightfully impressed!! My husband was served raw salmon. We were repeatedly told that it was, "almost there." It was so raw, it was cold in the middle. They then took the filet from the plate and slapped it on the grill again. It came back over cooked with the sauce cooked off. Not even so much as a comped beer for feeding someone raw fish. Won't be going back. It feels like they might be feeling the heat from Smokehouse 52 opening up across the street but if you can't compete, don't try. We checked out Dan's after spending a day at the Michigan baton competition at the high school last weekend. Since the competition took longer than expected, we didn't have a lot of close options at 8pm, and really needed to feed the kids before they fell asleep from exhaustion! The kids and my mom split a pizza, and they seemed to enjoy it. My dad and I got burgers which were tasty, and my hubby had wrap sandwich that he liked. The bun on the burger was stale & there was ZERO flavor in the meat, cheese and grilled vegetables. I've been visiting Dan's downtown tavern for many years. There's no place like it for a cold beer after a sporting event - for me, that would be golf. There are plenty of TVs, so you can watch nearly anything. They're even friendly when you ask to have a channel changed to watch a different game! The burgers are great, and I highly recommend the Sweet Potato fries - just try them, you'll be hooked! Service is very good - not great, but very good. You can go there alone, with a friend, or with your family. It's a great place for those in the Saline area. With all things consider, this is probably the best dining option in downtown saline. This place has a dive bar feel but is bigger than your average dive bars. They have about 20 beers on tap and on this particular day it was $3 for all pints (they have different drink specials everyday). For my starters I had the wings (have about 6 flavors, very subpar average wings) and spinach dip (runny, but extremely good and they do give you a lot). For my meal I went the western BBQ burger (they have about 15-18 different burgers), which was really good. However the highlight of the meal was in fact their delicious beer battered fries (simply amazing and a must have). Overall a really good place and i will be back because of the big menu they have which means more stuff to try. read more

I ordered takeout tonight and was excited, as it's right around the corner from me and highly rated. It was unfortunately awful. I ordered the 8 large wings with fries and mozzarella sticks. The wings were small and dry, the sauce wasn't put on the wings but rather on the side. The fries were soggy and had no flavor. It felt like everything was sitting under a light, even the mozzarella sticks. I'm not sure if I'll give this another try, and kinda regret spending my money here. read more

I had a meeting down the street from Dan's and passed through quite a bit early so I stopped in for lunch. While I had every intention of having a salad, the smell of burgers quickly changed my mind. I ordered a patty melt. It was amazing! Quality bread, perfect burger, perfectly prepared along with perfect service. Aric took care of me and was wonderfully gracious. I love the atmosphere. Legit question: Who puts PINEAPPLE in coleslaw??? SERIOUSLY, WHO PUTS PINEAPPLE IN COLESLAW? Sadly, this one example illustrates everything you need to know about Dan's Downtown Tavern. I've been several times and have attempted to eat a selection of different apps and entrees with disappointing results at every single visit. The menu is mostly limited to pizza, burgers, and pseudo-Mexican. Appetizers are mediocre at best, with most appearing to go from the freezer to the fryer (though this is your safest bet if you're looking for standard bar food with minimal expectations). As far as entrees go, there are so many better options for an edible meal within a two minute walking distance that I strongly suggest using your feet to spare your mouth and stomach. My experiences at Dan's, *consistently*, over the past two years is that the shredded chicken in their various dishes is dried out - horrifically - by at least two-thirds of every portion, perhaps from sitting/reheating/microwaving, but likely the result of a combination of all three practices. C'mon folks, it's shredded chicken, not steak tartare - you can do this fresh before you open and have ONE decent offering on your menu, can't you? Condiments are served on the stingy side, which when you're serving shredded chicken jerky in your burritos and quesadillas, salsa and sour cream ought to come by the cupfuls. Burgers and pizza are mediocre even when served at Dan's best, and that's something of a generous statement. Drink orders from the bar - and this is what they're supposed to know how to do - are jacked. I've no idea how A TAVERN can get a basic gin and tonic wrong, but after three attempts and someone using what I think was flat club soda instead of tonic water - I gave up. There's simply no excuse for that. None. Fresh tonic water + gin + squeeze of lime. Three ingredients. It can't get more simple than that and even giving them three tries on one visit alone, they still couldn't pull it off? Ouch. This place is perfect for greasy apps out of the fryer and beer or malt beverages out of cans and bottles, but that's it, which is a shame because the location is great and the patio area is fun in late spring through early autumn. Unfortunately, with so many other great options for food and drinks literally right there, Dan's is going to suffer unless they address poor menu choices, quality control issues from the kitchen, and the inability of the bar to turn out a basic cocktail. read more

Well...they used to...today it was dry and tasteless beef...I asked for it plain (no cheese) with just a slice of onion...was told they don't have a burger like that I would need to order the all American minus the cheese...OK...I can do that...then when the bill came, I'm charged .75 for a tiny slice of onion...so they saved on the cheese and ripped me off for the onion...pretty cheesy I say!!! After several trips to Dan's I will never be back. The owner is extremely unprofessional. Yells at his staff, his costumers, and swears in front of children. I expect things to get rowdy in a bar, but this was during the dinner rush. Absolutely uncalled for. I feel so bad for his unappreciated wait staff. This place was busy on a week night, but no problems finding seating, with two different sides to this tavern. We came to check out the Trivia, which for those who never have done Sporkle Trivia (or at least here), it was fast-paced, i.e., don't come expecting to have much side conversation with your friends while playing trivia (upside being you are done by 10pm, for us old fogeys). The place has an extensive beer menu, however, service was less than stellar. Not only the infrequency of seeing our server, but also when one of us ordered a cider, they got what definitely wasn't anything sweet like a cider. However, we had to wait likely 15+ mins to find the server again, asked about it (thinking it likely was a mixed up order), she responded "I dont know anything about beers" and wouldn't allow us to send back the beer. Sadly, that was a waste of $4, as the entire thing just sat at our table the rest of the night. Surprising for a place that boasts about how many beers they have on tap, you think they'd pride themselves on making sure you like what you got or at least received the right order, but guess not. Food was only so-so as well, the wings were crispy, however, very small, and they serve the sauce by just giving you packets of salad dressing. I have not had the pleasure of eating at Dan's, but I love love the beer selection. I stopped in yesterday (a Friday) around 4pm (pretty busy, but not completely full) to have a couple beers. The list is great - and the service is quite friendly. My friend also had some Jameson Whisky too, and was very happy about the ~$4 cost. I had a couple of Michigan IPAs that I was very happy about. I like the variety of Michigan beers that they have available. The parking can be found behind the buildings - though there is street parking too. What I didn't like were all the TVs. That's probably good for most people - but I just get too distracted. The feeling in the place is friendly and warm. Overall great place to stop in for some beer or bar food. I've heard great things about the burger, so today I'm heading into the Clinton Dan's to give it a shot! Can't wait. :) read more

My husband and I stopped in after a trip to tractor supply for a quick bite to eat. We found a seat next to the wall with very little room. I hear there is more seating but for someone who has never been there before it was quite illusive. We were waited on by two different girls so it was quite confusing. One showed up for our drink order, a different one dropped off my drink, and still another dropped my husbands. A girl took our order and 3 minutes later another girls came by to take our order. Did I mention it's not a really big place? I ordered a Caliwrap BLT with sweet potato fries. Although they were a little greasy they were very tasty. The wrap was nothing special. I did however pay about ten dollars for a wrap with fries :( My husband ordered their BIG wings for $9 and they were no more than some little wing dings with BBQ sauce squirted over the top. He asked for a second beer from waitress #2 and waitress #1 stopped by to see if he needed another one. We told her one was on the way and when waitress 2 came back she seemed confused and had to go back to the bar to get the beer. Too pricey for nothing special in a crowded place with bad service. Bathroom acoustics were favorable for singing if the stupid fan wasn't so loud. read more

Atmosphere: Depending on time you go, it's dark and sometimes hard to read the menu depending where you're seated. It can be noisy. It has a busy vibe without feeling crowded though. There's three rooms, and they all have their own distinct tone to them. Wait staff: Definitely busy. Sometimes it was hard to find our waiter. Whether because they're spread to thin or other I don't know. They were always super nice, but again very busy. Though I will state that one of my orders was wrong at one point, but whose fault it was (waiter or kitchen) I don't know. Food: All depends on what you get. I don't do meat, so I can't speak for the burgers. But the pizza is super tasty. The spinach and artichoke dip a touch watery but good flavor. I DO NOT recommend the nachos on the last page. All the tortilla chips are these red tasty corn chips, but they're thin. So under the avalanche of toppings, they either break when you try to pull them out or they're soaked through and mush. Live a little and get the peanut butter burger... it is so good you'll wonder why no one else makes them! The salty bacon really balances out the sweet peanut butter =) This place has every kind of pub food you could want: jalapeno poppers, fried pickles, fries, and much, much more. Once you've picked out your food, they have a huge selection of cold beers to choose from. In a healthy mood? Their harvest salad is pretty tasty. The only downside to this place is that their menu is so huge it takes a while to figure out what to order. I personally prefer the smaller menu at Sidetracks in Ypsilanti. They don't have a ton of appetizers, but the ones they do have are out of this world! All in all, I had a good time and would like to return! read more
