I came here end of June for my organization's dinner and educational meeting. We gathered in their private room which had lots of natural lighting. The waitresses and waiters were very nice, attentive, and welcoming. As a group we shared the calamari and spinach & artichoke dip appetizers. They were both quite delish. Afterwards we enjoyed the Carlyle salads which were fresh and plated nicely. As my entree I chose the steak dinner. The mashed potatoes were buttery, the vegetables were perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned, and the steak was on point! It was cooked medium, chared, and seasoning like a champ. Very enjoyable! For dessert I chose the carrot cake.....and WOW! This cake was light, moist, not overly sweet, and they give you such a huge piece. If ever back in the area I could see myself coming back to enjoy another meal. read more

My waitress was so friendly. She recommended the pot roast. It was amazing!!! It was so delicious, tender and loaded with flavor, the carrots and mushrooms were amazing in it, and the mashed potatoes were outstanding! The portion was great. The service delays continued at the table--it took 50 minutes to get our food, and it was cold when it arrived. The serving staff seemed swamped and unsupported, so this falls on management for poor planning. It was a stressful experience rather than a relaxing holiday meal. We will not be back. read more

I can't believe this place isn't more expensive!! Our experience was fantastic. We didn't have a reservation for dinner on a Saturday, and still our wait wasn't very long, maybe 20 minutes. The place was dim, but it gave the building a cozy, upscale feel. Our server, Zack, was very attentive and friendly. They give you bread and butter to snack on while you wait, and the butter was very sweet. The food didn't take long to come out either after we ordered. My ribs literally fell off the bone. I loved my shoestring fries, fried perfectly and came with a side of ketchup. My family members ordered baked mac and cheese and various pastas, and they said the food was very diverse and flavorful. For a party of four, the bill came out to be less than $100, which I think is underpriced for the quality of food we had. read more

We had another amazing dining experience with a group of 6 last night. We tried 3 of the chef specials which were all FANTASTIC! Cedar plank salmon-"perfectly cooked, really moist, honey sweet with a slight touch of chili spiciness-very flavorful". Lasagna-both men raved about the tastiness and hearty portion size and finally the wonderful Mixed grill with 3 different meat skewers, the steak being my favorite, delightful dipping sauces and tasty grilled bread and veggies. The waitress said the chef was new and trying out new things so wanted to share the immediate feedback. Yes! Yes! Yes! Made a reservation on a beautiful Sunday afternoon thinking it'd be busy. However, at 2:30, there were plenty of seats in the dining area. We chose to go to the bar area (just our preference) where it was more relaxed and our scene. TVs had golf on, which was also nice. The bartender was so attentive! I would have given a higher star rating if it weren't for the surprise at the end our meal. The food and portions were very good. But when presented with with the bill after our meal I examined the charges and noticed an "ADMINISTRATIVE FEE" at the bottom of the bill. I called the server back and questioned the "ADMINISTRATIVE FEE". She explained that the management has added a fee to the charges to cover credit card charges for those who use credit cards/plastic to pay for the meals. I asked if this "fee is charged to everyone regardless if they pay cash or not. The server informed me that it's their practice to add on the fee to all "checks". I told her that I was paying cash and I'd like to have the "ADMINISTRATIVE FEE" removed. She took the "check " and removed the fee and brought back an adjusted bill. It would have been more acceptable to be told ahead of ordering that there's an additional fee for the convenience of using plastic when it comes to payment verses being sneaky about it and trying to slip the fee in unnoticed. To all who patronize Carlyle Grill, buyer beware! Check your itemized bill prior to paying and either bring your hard earned cash with you, go somewhere else, or realize that the convenience of your plastic card comes at a cost. read more

Carlyle Grill saved us on New Years Eve by seating 9 people without a reservation. We'd gone to AA to play pickleball in the afternoon - but then decided to stick around and have dinner. Someone called Carlyle and they said they could fit us in. So 5 stars right there. Service was great - our waitress was friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was really good. The spinach artichoke dip was excellent. I ordered the pappardelle with tomato cream sauce and subbed shrimp for chicken. The flavor was good - but they used cavatappi instead of pappardelle. Minor - but I don't like thick pasta. I split a ceaeser with my bf, we both enjoyed it. The bread was also a hit. It was a huge portion, I had enough for 2 more lunches at home. I think everyone else enjoyed their food too, my bf loved his pecan chicken. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was inside, when we called we thought we were heading to a bar. So bonus again. I also asked about Mocktails and she asked the bartender who gave me a few options. I choice a mock mojito. Hubby swore by this place during our visit to Ann Arbor. He said we HAD to try the Shrimp Cake BLT made with house-made shrimp cake , lettuce, tomato, onion, tartar, and smoked bacon. We thought we'd be going out for food later and this would just be a snack so he ordered one to go. Big mistake! We ate that BLT up so quick it's like it never happened. So of course we had to go in and order another one. Definitely a good dish. Overall I got used to the taste of the shrimp cake but definitely prefer crab cakes over them. Carlyle Grill is a go-to stop for outdoor Happy Hour, good drinks and food. Their French onion soup is top notch. A meal in a bowl. Don't pass up the chips and salsa. My sister likes the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. The burgers are really good and don't pass up the chef feature. It's usually very good. Really enjoyed dinner at Carlyle Grill! Started with the Shrimp Cakes appetizer, which were somewhat like crab cakes but with big juicy whole shrimps. These exceeded expectations! Generous amount of shrimp, well seasoned potato/vegetable batter, very tasty. Served on a bed of spinach to feel ~healthier :). Half rack of ribs was really big, very tasty! Though some small parts of the rib rack were a little overcooked/tougher, overall this was yummy and tender. Side of mac and cheese was WAY bigger than expected, and so decadently cheesy with a crispy cheese layer on the bottom AND broiled cheese on top. Greek salad was also huge and good! We met friends for an early dinner and had a spectacular meal. I ordered crab cakes with a spicy mayo, rice pilaf, and grilled asparagus. The crab cakes were all crab interior, crispy on the outside. The asparagus was a good charred bite. Accompanied by a chilled glass of cava, this was by far one of the best restaurant meals I've had in a long time. We were seated in a spacious booth. We ordered spinach artichoke dip for appetizer and it is excellent! Definitely recommend that one. For the most part, all our entrees were very good. We were able to be seated in the bar area relatively quickly which was nice, but if you have a bigger group, I'd definitely recommend calling ahead or making a reservation. We just moved to Ann Arbor and we are certain that Carlyle Grill will become one of my family's staple restaurants. The menu has many options for adults and kids and the food is very fresh. The service is absolutely phenomenal. The servers are so attentive and food is served quickly. Our waitress made wonderful recommendations. I got the mushroom ravioli with blackened chicken and it was wonderful. The pasta was a little bland but the chicken more than made up for it! My son got the ribeye which he enjoyed and my husband got the burger which he said was good. My daughter ate the pasta with white sauce and liked it. Also, the Caesar salad was excellent. I returned after a hiatus in an attempt to continue the celebration of my 50th. This place is just as wonderful as I remember. We started with house Pinot Grigio, the calamari and rolls. Next we got the shrimp cakes and blackened salmon. Both were fab. I swear, the bread at this place is worth the trip scone. The seafood is always perfectly prepared, as are the roasted potatoes. Their calamari is in a class by itself. Although it is fried, the batter is light and it allows the thick calamari pieces to shine. Took a bit to get our Riesling and the blueberry basil drink and now it's taking a bit to order too, Dave, he's been running around quite a bit tonight. The spinach artichoke is out and we have no silverware at our table yet. Hmm. The service is a bit slow, inattentive as well. The spinach artichoke dip is good, so creamy and spinach filled and really liked the feta in the dip too. Dave has forgotten about the shrimp the chowder. Food was all out before we had to ask about the chowder. There are several GF options here for the pastas, not bad. The roasted chicken salad was tasty, the raspberry dressing was thick and sweet. The dates were nice and the chicken was tender. Blackened chicken pasta was rich, creamy and flavorful. Service today was less than stellar, today. All of our apps, drinks and food were all delicious. The food was a solid 4, the service was about a 2, but maybe it was an off day for Dave, he was still a nice guy and got to it once we pointed out what we were lacking at the table. Nice place. Went on a Sunday evening around 7 at it was busy so opted for a high top in the bar. Now people may think I'm nuts for saying this, but I ordered a cranberry margarita, and it was way too strong! It was hard just to get through it, and when I finally did, I was already drunk. I do enjoy a strong drinks at times, but if I'm ordering a specialty flavored margarita, I'd at least like to be able to taste a little bit more than the tequila. For a meal I got the veggie black bean burger. The patty itself was very tasty, but it was overpowered by the red onions on it. It came with a side of shoestring french fries, which were cold and crispy. Needless to say I wasn't impressed with those. All of the decor at the place was nice and the setting was nice. I still can't give more than a three star right now because of the quality of my meal and drink. The staff was nice enough. Was out to eat with my wife. Food was good and our server was amazing but we did see something that was a bit concerning to us and left us a bit worried. A man host was cleaning off a table a bit away from us and my wife saw him go through the servers check book and take money out. We usually like to leave cash tips but after seeing that we felt uncomfortable that he might also steal the tip so we just wrote it on the bill. Servers shouldn't have to worry about their tips being stolen from someone they work with. Hope this issue is addressed. read more
