It's no longer Arctic Breakaway. Added a nice large screen TV and service and drinks were solid though a bit pricey. However, the food (other than fries) was terrible. Food is clearly frozen stuff that's reheated. Worst burger and wings possibly ever. Pizza wasn't sufficiently reheated. Menu was limited but asked for a club sandwich from online menu. Bartender said no problem. Ordered club, chicken tenders, Bloody Mary. We were one of first ppl there so grease was fresh and you could tell because chips and fries were the best tasting ever. Then the club sandwich may have looked more like a slim jim but was excellent! Bloody Mary was also perfect! Now the best part...the chicken tenders were huge full tenderloins not trimmed or split and the batter was out of this world good. Never ever ate chicken tenders that tasted so good and my son has eaten nothing but for 13 years and I try them all the time. The batter was similar to a fish batter but the texture and taste with chicken was again amazing! And get this...I hate chicken. Absolutely hate it and would eat beef all day but I ate my sandwich and ate every piece of chicken my wife left when she was full. Ate it to where you have to pop your pants button it was that good! This is one of the greatest ice rink restaurants I've ever been to. Perfect vision of both rinks so no matter where your kid is playing you have a premium seat. The staff are all super friendly and they have a wonderful beer and food selection. It's not gourmet, but it is excellent bar food. I decided to go with a salad to offset some of the drinking. It was pretty tasty quite healthy. This is an awesome spot for a hockey tournament. Hope to have this again in the future. read more

They have improved so much in the last few years. Arctic Breakaway seems to be turning around their poor service and quality ways. The service is fantastic now. The servers hustle and make sure you're happy. The food was good before but I have to comment about the chicken tenders I had last night. They were fresh white meat chicken, no seasoning, hand-dipped beer batter (which was surprisingly not thick) and came with a side of remoulade. The remoulade I could have skipped but it was fine. I really appreciated the freshness of the chicken. I needed some salt and hot sauce but it just showed how fresh the food was, when it came out like that. Definitely something you can order a child and not have to worry about the breading being spicy or it being freezer-tender from GFS. My husband was happy with his classic rueben and side of fries. It was all served hot. I appreciate people that choose Breakaway to bring their children and for large family gatherings, instead of a smaller, quieter restaurant. Arctic Breakaway is loud. The TVs are loud, people are cheering on the hockey games below and chances are there are children playing tag between the tables. This is Breakaway. If you don't want that atmosphere, don't come here. The beer is cold, the game is on, the food is good and happy to say the service is now outstanding. Went for the first time to have dinner for my son's 9th birthday. Other reviews said it was a kid-friendly place. My kid ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. Wife got a cup of French onion soup and a side salad. I got a cup of chili and nachos with pulled pork. Food took FOREVER to arrive. Over 45 minutes, and they didn't even bring the soups out first. Everything at once. Server was very unfriendly. Never checked in with us. When the food did arrive, the kid's spaghetti didn't have the meatballs. I asked about it, and the server said she didn't know it was supposed to have them. I point to the menu where it says "spaghetti and meatballs". My nachos were incorrect. So they went back and I had another 30 minute wait while in the interim my family finished their meal. No word of apology or attempt tp solve anything by the server. I complained to the manager, and at least she tried to make it right. Only try this place if you want to wait any hour for Sysco crap. read more

In town for a tournament, ate here twice this weekend. First time was good. It was busy, but not swamped. Our server was great and the food was tasty. Today was the second visit. Not good! It was busy. They had a very limited menu because they were so busy. We had to wait about a half hour for our drinks and to place our order. The server came back and said they were taking more off the menu, we could only order pizza, because the ONE cook was too busy. Why do you schedule one cook on a Sunday afternoon of a tournament weekend? They lost quite a bit of money from our group. Not smart management. read more

I found a receipt at the bottom of my purse from this place from a few months ago, and it brought up some unfavorable memories. While I was eating my (decent at best) food, I remember hearing the manager "talking" to one of the employees (I think berating is a better term). James? Jordan? Josh? Something like that. Hearing him belittle his workers like that was truly unbelievable! Saying they were "easily replaceable" and "lazy" while I had great service and kind interactions. I can't even believe the verbal abuse these employees have to go through on a seemingly regular basis (the kid took it like a champ, so clearly it wasn't anything new). If my daughter worked there, I wouldn't stand for that sort of treatment -- and towards high school students nonetheless! The Arctic Breakway is the best restuarant in Chelsea hands down. A huge selection of craft beer and craft whiskey. I had the bulldog burger while watching the michigan game while drink an ice cold beer. It was super delicious and they had $1 dollar drafts during the game, cant bet that deal. Not sure if we came on an off day or not but it just seemed like something wasn't right. It took a moment for a server to come to our table to take a drink order. Once we did order a different person brought them. Once we looked at the menu and placed our order, again to someone different, it took forever to get our drinks. My husband ordered tomato soup. It took so long to get it and then once he did it tasted like it was straight from a can. Not like a can of Progresso but a can of off-brand Campbell's that you add water too. The food finally came and it was definitely average. The burger had some flavor to it but the bun seemed like it was just a regular bun that someone ran to Dollar General and grabbed because they forgot to get buns at the actual grocery store. The space has potential although it is very, very dark. It was really cool that while waiting (which we did forever) we could watch an ice hockey practice. We really, really wanted to like this place but we are in no major rush to return. We might give it a try again but not anytime soon. Bummer!! read more

Can I give no stars? Worst service I have ever had! My husband plays hockey here and it's warmer in the restaurant upstairs and we can still watch him play. Great set up! However first time up here with my daughter we sat for over 20 minutes before being served. I like to give places second chances so the next week we sat in the restaurant again and we sat through an entire game right by the server station and did not have any come up to us at all. Stupid me tried a third week and still horrible service. I flagged down another waitress to get an appetizer I ordered over 30 minutes prior. My waitress told me she was sorry, and that she forgot and that my food was just put in. It was cold when we got it. Had ask for my check and still took forever. This place is hit or miss, but as one of the few dinner places in Chelsea, we continue to visit. On our last outing, our male server was very attentive, and it was the first time we've been here that we were actually happy with the service. The menu is a decent mix of comfort food and bar food. Dinner prices are typically $10 and up, drinks are expensive but they run good specials. Menu is the usual sandwich/salad/burger bar food. Average to poor quality, usually too salty, pricey for what you get. A good local place to watch the game, but kitchen needs help. A recent "Cuban Sandwich" was a slice of dried-out reheated roast pork, salami slices (!), and a slice of cheese and a pickle on a folded warmed pita!!! With a cup of thick sticky mayo served on the side. If you can't do the real thing, don't pretend. Have been going for several years with a group. Service has also declined in that time - waitstaff used to be well trained; now the waitstaff, while polite, often seems at a loss and just muddling through. They frequently forget to bring parts of orders (silverware! rolls with salad!), entrees for our table arrive at different times, get the drink list confused, don't know the daily specials, etc. read more

Terrible! I want to like this restaurant because it is so convenient. In fact, we have eaten there twice while playing in a hockey tournament. We have had awful experiences both times. Tonight, we waited almost an hour and a half for our food. The manager was rude to her staff and customers. The arctic breakaway has everything you could ask for in a bar and more! The hospitality is through the roof and the manager Is a stand out guy! The variety of specials they have are incredible anywhere from breakfast to dinner. I did not even know there was that many whiskeys available until I went to the breakaway. I had the bulldog burger while I was here and I could say it was one of the best burgers I've ever had, and there was nothing better to was it down with other than the $1 bud light that I had during the Michigan game. I'm not a fan of their menu and service is always mediocre. One time my cousin and I waited 10 minutes to get a drink. The waitresses just kept walking by us. We were one of maybe 3 tables @ the end of the night. My husbands class reunion was held here. The food was terrible, set up poorly and instead of having servers dedicated to the party of 70, they were also working the rest of the restaurant as well. We ended up just going to the bar for drinks instead of waiting for a server. I was also very upset with our waitress as she kept trying to serve 2 drinks at a time to my husband who was already in the bag. read more

The only saving grace is that the bartender seems to have some understanding of the restaurant business, the servers are completely incompetent and I imagine poorly trained. The food is inconsistent. I sat with a hungry 2 year old for 30 minutes before going and getting our drinks, I counted between 15-20 ppl in the restaurant as guests and 2 servers- you do the math. It wasn't busy, nor was it an everyone walked in at the same time situation. I would've happily taken my business elsewhere but I had a kids hockey game to watch. It's unfortunate, because in theory this place could be a gold mine, tons of flat screens, showing any and all sporting events, you can see both the south rink and north rink from the wall seating, there is so much potential! Every nite, it was tough to get a bartender ( different every nite) and not one had a personality or knew what bartenders do, occasionally address their customers.
