We went to Stivers tonight on our way home from a long day of running errands. It was after 8 when we arrived on St Patrick's Day eve . There were regulars sitting at the bar singing to the jukebox and gladly engaging others in conversation. The star of the night was our waitress Angie and the food that she served. We ordered Shepherds pie, Rueben sliders, and a Greek salad. We had no idea that the servings would be ginormous. It was a cozy, fun, stop. It was a nice way to end a long day, and a place that you want to be a regular. The recommendations and conversation with Angie was excellent. We will be back soon! read more

Jan 28, 2025 2:45pm. Walked in to Stivers sat down waited 10 minutes and no one ever came to wait on us. Stood up and seen the waitress way at the back of the hall where they cook the food all chatting to the cooks. Waited a couple more minutes she never came out. We decided to leave and go somewhere where they would wait on us. This particular waitress does not care about customer service as we have seen in the past. This time she total ignored us, she just doesn't care. This has never had before. Sad for her we're good tippers. read more

I would like to warn people that getting a job at this so called business will turn around and smack you in the face a friend of my family's worked there the past year and was just recently let go for medical purposes instead of the so called boss calling an ambulance he had her drive home knowing she wasn't in the right state of mind. SAD SAD SAD!!! What if I was allergic to shellfish? So you admittedly cross contaminate food. Again, he never offered an apology. He just made excuses and got tongue-tied when confronted about cross contamination. First timers on a bucket list after purple rose. stopped in and went to the bar area. sat in front on speaker with music loud. went to the dining area and sat for a few minutes. a lady was putting up a white board with nightly specials. and noticed us sitting there. we will be with you in a few minute.?she grab another sign to add the specials sat down and proceeded to start marking the new sign. no offer of water or drinks and we left and went to Ann Arbor to enjoy a very wonderful meal. pretty sure the owner would not like to hear. read more

29 years ago I started working in Chelsea. The guys I worked with went to Stivers every Friday for the fried perch plate. I did that for 18 years until I retired. For the last 11 years my wife and I get back maybe monthly. Yeah - it's that good. But not anymore. We stopped in last night. While the french fry's were their usual hot and crispy state, the fried perch were thin, tough and chewy - a real substandard piece of fish. I asked the waitress what changed - it wasn't what I had been getting for the last 29 years. She explained that the new owners now contract with one purveyor rather than several. Yeah, it saves them $ on food costs. It also means they don't want to pay what it costs for great perch the same as I've had for the past 29 years and probably longer. What a shame. They had the number 1 fish fry in my ratings anywhere. They've now gone to 'don't bother'. Yup - that bad. Lousy perch after no breadsticks and butter - another Stivers tradition gone. What a shame. Buy a business that has been doing great for decades and change the things that made it great for years. I usually ordered fountain drinks but had to order canned ones at Stivers. Ok, that's how it was. Didn't drink the water because they have a horrible tasting well - and I have well water myself. Without considering what would be served, canned beverages were dropped and a fountain system put in. Great change if the beverages weren't made with foul tasting well water. I'm done with Stivers. Nice little place to grab a burger. Prices are a good bang for your buck and employees friendly and efficient. I enjoyed the Royal burger (I call it the cardiologists nightmare) with cheese bacon and fried egg :-). Lots of other choices from wings to salads and seafood to meatloaf. Updating my review and adding a star for new menu items. Mexican Cheese stix - Wow. Comes with cocktail sauce but waitress said others recommend sour cream and so true. So good! I had beer battered shrimp from the special board, substituted a cup of soup for the side of slaw. Hubs had one of their famous 1/2 pound burgers. Even the french fries are really good. extra crispy coating and not little matchsticks. Stiver's has the same menu but a couple new items and it's nice to see Stiver's keeping things interesting with some choice additions. Clam strips, Sweet potato fries and more variety of soups on the daily special board. People are surprised when they find out about the great selection of pies. Warmed blueberry with real whipped cream is choice. Of course there is rice pudding but not always. Only when the owner makes it or they haven't run out. Nick makes a killer rice pudding for sure. Cherry, pecan, pumpkin, apple, french silk and lemon; but they rotate and all are not always available. Kitchen is open until 10pm on the weekdays and 11pm on the weekends. read more

We stayed about 50 mins , family of four. Pulled the food basket from my autistic child with his hands still in it , eating , and then handed us the bill. What a nice hint to make you leave quicker .Completely rude and stubbornly stuck in a decayed decade .They seem to prefer only like minded other individuals that possibly believe in 1800 th century morals and ideas where children have one place and it's lower than the rest and possible segregation. Service was slow and the food was terrible. Stopped in for lunch and it was not very crowed. We ordered our food, BLT and Gyros platter. Took 40 minutes for food to arrived. When it did, it was pathetic. The gyros meat was burnt, the texture of very crisp bacon and no flavor. The piece of spinach pie was okay, but at 15.95 you expect more. The BLT was similar, overcooked bacon and bland. It was all very bad. Even though I am local to the area, I won't be eating here again. Good food. Absolutely stupendous homemade soup. Friendly, helpful staff listening carefully to our wants and needs and helping us to make it happen. The first time we went I ordered a pork chop and eggs I could barely cut into the chop it was so tough and my poached eggs were not runny but that didn't bother me too bad, I was quite hungry, I didn't want hashbrowns and they were willing to give me a baked potato in place of it which made me very happy. But The second time we came I ordered a steak and poached eggs the steak was really good and soft and tender the eggs were runny yoke but runny white as well, which I didn't care for. We are kind of coffee snobs so the coffee wasn't what we would call good coffee but most people may. They didn't have a problem when we brought our own coffee. I feel the food is a bit inconsistent here. A decent place to eat though for sure. read more

Stivers Restaurant is the best kind of dive. After a long day of testing game prototypes at the Protospiel convention, Jules and I found ourselves in need of a late dinner. Given that, we opted to pull off of I-94 into the bar/restaurant that looked like nothing so much as someone's summer house. That said, we came in and were greeted immediately by a friendly server and seated within seconds. While late, neither the restaurant nor the bar was particularly busy, which was just fine by us. Within 10 minutes, we had ordered and were just waiting on our sandwiches to arrive--a gyro for Jules and a ball-tip steak sandwich for myself. I've got to say, the sandwich I received wasn't quite what I expected: my steak sandwich was a literal steak (cooked correctly to a wonderful medium, mind you) on a sandwich bun. Maybe it's just me, but I was expecting more of a shaved-steak sandwich or the like. Regardless, the sandwich was tasty and the fries that accompanied it were crispy. If I had one complaint about the sandwich as it arrived, the bun for the sandwich simply did not hold up. If it were toasted or the like, it could likely hold together much better. Overall, I'd probably give Stivers another run, especially as a late-night option. If everything else around is closed, you can surely do worse! read more

I'll so upset. My husband and I went to Stivers for dinner on our way home tonight. I've got a disability and both my husband and I are in our mid 50's. I had my 6 pound service dog and the owner/manager made a huge scene. He embarrassed me by yelling she wasn't a service dog and he wouldn't serve me. That I needed to leave so he could protect his customers. I promptly stated she was wearing her vest and got out her legal ID. Dil F. does not lie! I stalk his reviews and he never disappoints me. Finally got over here on a Friday night for prime rib and perch. Both are nicely priced, plentifully portioned and mighty tasty. I went with medium rare and a baked potato along with the obligatory whirl around the salad bar. James ate his fill of perch and fries. We both agreed the quality prime rib was the best pick but we were both happy and full. Drinks here will knock you on your ass. I compare it to places like Knight's and Baker's Keyboard Lounge for serving up straight out damn.I'm.drunk type cocktails. These are cheap to boot so you can be a really big lush. Enough of them and I may give karaoke a whirl. Take that as a gremlin type warning, do not let Liz have more than two drinks here or the consequences will be devastating. The atmosphere is average at best but the service is great, people are friendly and the value for your buck is incredible. Great food! Perch was fresh and all you can eat. Mac n cheese delicious, hot and baked right there. Burger cooked perfectly. The owner greeted us, set the table and welcomed us. Patrons and staff very friendly. One man chatted about the weather, we asked how far he had to travel home. He pointed to the large, bird's eye view picture of the restaurant behind us and said, 'That's my farm right there!' Not far then. This is the quintessential Rural American restaurant. The Mac and Cheese was huge and good. The prime rib is awesome but has competition from Mac and Cheese. Different worlds they are, but both competed well for my taste buds. Chris thanked me for turning him on to this place. The drinks are spirited..like a mofo. Food was great and plentiful. Wait staff... down to earth. Cooks...skilled. I am comfortable going in here in my Armani Blazer...or my Harley Jeans and Jacket, with the HD stuff being more appropriate for the venue. Good people here. Absolutely the worst service ever. Waited 50mins for Friday fish and watch two tabes after us get seated and served the same meal. We had the table by the cash register , the waitress walked by over and over and never checked on us despite be trying to stop her. I had to litterly corner her to get her to bother to check on us. Waitress messed up out drink order, and then we we asked for the bill she had "lost it" and we waited another 15 mins. When we got it we we're over charged , billed for things we didn't order. Holding onto the belief that if you haven't touched something in 12 months, it's time to throw it away, we were going through a stack of Ann Arbor Observers, a wonderful and informative monthly that guides us whenever we are in Ann Arbor, and we stumbled upon a review of the restaurant. We were planning to catch several shows at the Ark, so we stopped by for dinner. The Observer review went on and on about the restaurant's hamburgers, stating "But the standout may have been the burger, a perfect balance of seasonings and quality meat. Don't bother with the cheese: the juicy burger's dynamic all by itself." So, okay, burgers, fries, and a cola for dinner sounded good. The interior is divided between well lit dining room and darkened bar. I doubt the interior of the dining room has been updated since forever ago. It feels strictly 1950's. Actually, any room equipped with wood paneling feels like the 1950's. The service was fine. The food was a complete disappointment. It was all so bland and tasteless. Even hitting the burgers with pepper and the fries with salt changed little. When we eat burgers, we avoid catsup because catsup is a flavor, like chocolate, that can dominate and can mask what food really tastes like. To us, it isn't only hot dogs that should never see catsup. (Fries, however, are okay with catsup. Fries are a delivery system for catsup.) After several bites of our burgers, we looked at each other and said the word we use that means "Okay, let's choke these down and get out of here." And that word is catsup. So we dosed the burgers with inoculations of catsup, choked them down, paid, and left. But not before we were entertained by presumably one of the cooks entering the dining room from the kitchen. She was wearing the bloodiest white apron we'd ever seen. At least I think the apron had been white once long ago. My girl asked me, "Do they slaughter animals in the back here?" Stivers was recommended to me as a great place to get prime rib that's even better than Weber's in Ann Arbor. I visited Stivers on a Thursday and learned they serve prime rib only on Fridays and Saturdays. So I instead ordered the roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes, a small salad, and a bowl of onion soup, plus a glass of Merlot wine. The roast beef was tender, and the beef gravy was very tasty. The mashed potato portion was small, about the size of an ice cream scoop. The onion soup was awful. It tasted like canned, and it lacked any cheese or breading. It was basically flavored water with some slivers of onion submerged in it. And the meal wasn't cheap, costing me $25. The atmosphere is what one might expect from a small town roadside restaurant, which is not much. I may return some weekend to try Stivers highly-recommended prime rib, but for now in my view Weber's easily beats Stivers in food quality and ambience, and it isn't much more expensive than Stivers. (Incidentally, the French onion soup at Weber's is terrific!) read more
