    Spaghett and a frosé
    Katy C.

We were told by a local bartender to check out 8 Ball if we wanted a dive bar experience while visiting Ann Arbor over the summer. It was definitely divey! Unfortunately they were out of the frozen white sangria but I got a frose that was tasty. The spaghett was a fun drink to try - a Miller High Life with a mixer of Aperol and lemon juice. There are a handful of other beer cocktails that sounded fun, and at $6 or $7 per drink, you can't beat the prices. Where else can you get a 48oz Natty Light for $8?! It took awhile for us to get drinks at the bar, but a friendly patron gave up his seat so I could get in sooner. There's a pretty large outdoor area which was nice - but a lot of people were smoking out there in the communal space. There was an employee who kept telling people they had to move to the smoking area, which was helpful. I don't know that I need to stop here anytime I'm in the area, but it was fun to check out for a drink.

The 8 ball is back, and better than ever! New decor is very fresh, while keeping the authenticity of the 8ball we know and love. Updated drinks include Froźe and delicious slushie sangria that packs a punch! Love the outdoor patio with separate smoking section, and looking forward to some Sunday Fun days there! Brava! Faith and Company you've survived and thrived!

May not be a 5 star bar but it's for sure a 5 star dive! Cheapest beers in town with pool and games. Dive bars might not be for everyone but this place feels like home. Be sure to check out the world class bathroom art. It's even jam packed with some great advice!

Look at ALL of these accounts of physical abuse of power, they've been like this and will always be like this. You've been warned.

tl;dr: dumbass bouncers on two separate occasions, snapped my REAL driver's license in half, bust my $1300 camera, and shoved me against the stairs, hit my head and I'm currently walking with a limp Bouncers at this venue are on a serious fucking power trip, read the other reviews and you'll see as much. I've had two separate incidents at Eightball and this was the last. I only stop by because I'm a concert goer at the Blind Pig, but it's not worth the shitshow they're running. Incident 1) I moved here from South Carolina not too long ago. I show up with my South Carolina ID, and this bouncer tells me it's fake. I'm 24, and haven't gotten this kind of shit in years. Unprovoked he starts bending it. Not all IDs are bendable dumbass, you have one job and you clearly have no fucking idea what you're doing. I hear a crisp SNAP and stare in disbelief as he breaks my license in half and matter-of-factly confirms to me that it's fake with a smile. After some petty bickering for another 5 minutes I walk past and go to the bartender, who gets me a manager. The manager covers the measly $20 doc fee for getting a new license, AFTER I get my new license, which wound up being two weeks later, having had to register my car in Michigan, change my car insurance, get new plates, and get a new license. Incident 2) Don't ask me why I came back, but I did after seeing Joe Hertler last night. I grabbed a delish ghost pepper kielbasa from the stand outside. As I walk up I ask the bouncer (different guy) if he's ever had one as I'm starting to pant and sweat from the spice. Dude tells me I'm too drunk to come in. What? I tell him the fact that I haven't had a single drink tonight and ask if he's kidding. He says no and I ask for a manager. Lo and behold right next to him is the bartender that "helped" me out with the ID issue last time, who is chuckling at the situation and says he's the manager. I call him on his bullshit, and the bouncer gets in my face and starts pushing me. As I try and hold my hands out to tell him not to touch me he shoved me into the staircase behind me. Six guys are now staring me down and yelling at me to get out. To give ya a frame of reference I somehow scraped my elbow through my leather jacket and hit my head and hip HARD to the point where I'm currently still walking with a limp. Worst of all they bust my $1300 Fuji camera. I'm in disbelief and pain and before I can even get back on my feet they shove me AGAIN. I immediately go to the police station and ask what my options are for a civil or criminal suit for property damage and bodily injuries. They tell me because it's just anecdotal and because I have no hard evidence outside of a breathalyzer test they could perform and the bruises that I didn't really have a case since this was done on private property, and that I'm just going to have to take the loss. FUCK YOU EIGHTBALL edit: you can check out Eightball's pathetic attempts at defending their show of force here https://www.facebook.com/whatthebaek/posts/1531678033588271:0

I once got denied at the door for wearing a hawaiian shirt and flip-flops, but if you've ever been to the Eight Ball you would agree that I deserved it.

They don't serve any food though, so might not be a good choice if you're hungry. - Dogfish Head Grateful Dead IPA: 10000/10 (an amazing, refreshing IPA that isn't too strong! Medium-bodied, pretty fruit-forward with notes of pineapple and mango. Honestly one of the best IPAs I've had in a whileee) - Kasteel Wit: 9/10 (light-body wheat beer that's also super refreshing and flavorful!) - Hacker Pschor Oktoberfest: 10/10 (great marzen) - Rhineheist Cheetah lager: 8/10 (decent lager) - Guinness: 6/10 (the Guinness was wayyyyy too watery!!!) - Ferndale Project Apple Pie: 9/10 (actually tastes like apple pie and vanilla! It's def on the sweeter side though, so you might not like it if you're not into sweet beer) Overall, I definitely want to come back and sit outside when the weather is nicer!

However, I made a grave mistake of ordering on the QR code/Toast rather than at the bar. I say grave because fellow bourbon whisky enthusiasts will cringe -- I was pretty stoked to see that they had Basil Hayden Toasted. So, I ordered it but also selected "add water" with the anticipation that it would be like a dropper of water. Nope, they made a cocktail out of my 2oz pour of Basil Hayden. Whiskey water. At that point, it could've been Makers Mark or Jack and I wouldn't have known the difference. User error though so I did make sure I still tipped accordingly and NOW I know. I'll be back though.

I really want to love Fraser's…read more I dig dive bars. I'm into local neighborhood spots. I enjoy beer and burgers and deep fried things. While I'm not that into sports, I can appreciate a good sports bar. Perhaps that's the critical piece here. This seems to be a really fun place to watch a Michigan football game on one of the 10,000 TVs. Even a minor game where not much is at stake will have patrons cheering at every moderately good play. But Brandon A. suggested Fraser's has "great burgers, excellent beer selection, great drinks at fantastic prices and great service...as long as you abide by one simple rule: don't be an asshole." That hasn't been my experience. They have adequate burgers, but there are significantly tastier and cheaper burgers available in town. The beer list is fine, but I have yet to find anyplace in Ann Arbor with an actually excellent beer selection. Admittedly I'm spoiled by my favorite small tap room which is several states over, and I miss deeply. However, it did give me an appreciation for what it means for a place to have an excellent beer selection. My Euchre Pils was $7 and served in a plastic cup. Maybe I'm old, but that does not feel like a fantastic price. And the service? On my most recent visit it took a long time for anyone to come by with menus, and an even longer time before anyone returned to take a food order. I tried flagging down a server, but none were making eye contact. It appears the servers work in some kind of zone defense, as every part of our experience seemed to be handled by a different person. It was uncomfortable to the point where we felt unwelcome and considered leaving. But we had already been there so long we were committed to seeing it out. For the record, I'm not an asshole. I still tipped over 25% on the food. I can't say I'm a fan of the 4% fee to use a credit card, or the $.75 charge for a little side of mayo for the fries. All told, it was $50 for two burgers, one beer, and an onion ring up-charge. Not exactly a cheap meal. So far I've braved the burgers, I've sampled the sliders, and sunk my teeth into a sandwich. I've tried the fries and onion rings. Everything was just kinda okay, but nothing has risen to the level of "ooh that's good". What am I missing? I want to love the place. It's close to where I live, which makes it mighty convenient, but unless someone can offer me a compelling reason to give it another try, I'm unlikely to return.

Seating was simple and quick... they do check your ID at the door before you get seated. Interior hasn't changed and I don't expect it to change. I appreciate the old vibe that place gives. For meal, we ordered: - few onions rings - Fried Artichoke Hearts - 2 regular burgers and 1 order "over the top" - few beers The service is hit or miss, depends on how busy the place gets... our waitress was working six tables by herself, but she did all she could to help. The onion rings were awesome, fried artichoke hearts, you can skip... for the burgers, I would recommend you stick to classic - meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions. We all got it med, the meat was juicy as usual and we all enjoyed it. The draft beer that I ordered was flat unfortunately. When we got our check I noticed that there was a "convenience fee 3%", which is applied to your meal prices only. I'm not a fan of convenience fee, if they are trying to offset the credit card charges or adjust their prices due to the inflation or higher material costs, they should just raise their prices to offset those. I also didn't see anything about convenience fee being added, granted if it was in a smaller print so I could have missed it. It seems everyone is adding on convenience fee to everything.

There's really no other word I can think of but condescending when describing our waitress. She not only had attitude every time she came to our table, but always seemed bothered to come check on us. I moved my chair around the table to have a better view of the game and she rudely confronted me saying I needed to move it out of the aisle- "I'm going to tell you right now, you or that chair cannot be there." Her attitude was a recurring theme throughout the evening. We ordered the Nachos and Pizza Bites appetizers, both of which came out in a timely manner and were warm. The Nachos were my favorite, there were enough toppings for all the chips which I know isn't always the case when you order nachos. The Pizza Bites were okay, they didn't have a lot of flavor, even with the ranch and marinara sauce provided. I want to give them another chance but will definitely not be recommending this place to others. I'm disappointed because they are conveniently located off Packard, right off the main drag into downtown Ann Arbor, and far enough away to avoid gameday traffic. Surprisingly, the crowd was pretty sparse for a Lions Sunday, maybe because it was an 8:20 game. The building itself was clean, but I did notice the bathroom had a pile of stuff on the ground (cleaning supplies? extra toilet paper maybe?) and there were no speakers piped into the restroom like most bars, so there was no way to follow the game during a quick bathroom break. Lastly, I have to mention their jersey giveaways. Right before the game finished, the bartender announced that number x had won the jersey giveaway. Me and my party were shocked because we had not been notified of a giveaway at all and because there were so few people, we probably had a good chance to win. I wouldn't put it past our waitress that she didn't care to tell us, given her already rude demeanor, but that is extremely upsetting that she couldn't even have informed customers of what we later found out to be a weekly special on gamedays. Turns out, you have to buy a certain beer to be entered into the raffle. That being said, if you go on gameday, don't expect them to notify you or advertise the specials...take the initiative and ask yourself. Or, in all honesty, take your business somewhere else that has better food and will gladly let you participate in their specials.
