Songbird is located in a strip mall. The dining area is spacious. How it works: you order at the counter, they assign you a table, they bring you your food, you clean up. So, for $42 we had an omelet each (one with no meat) and potatoes, one bottled juice . You get your water, salt and pepper, ketchup. The food was good, hot and plentiful. Seems a bit costly for the customer to do a majority of the work. You can pay this price for a full service restaurant. You decide. read more

More than ten years on and The Songbird Cafe is still a hit! I had a drs. appointment today that I was NOT looking forward to so I decided to treat myself to a nice soup and sandwich and a fancy coffee as a reward. Somethings never change and that includes my order here. Still going for that turkey pistachio goat cheese and the tomato bisque soup! Why mess with perfection, right? I'm happy to report that the sandwich is still great, though sadly it no longer comes with the side of chips. They're an extra upcharge now but not terribly expensive ($2). But between the soup and the sandwich I figured I would be satisfied so I skipped them. And I was right! I did not miss the chips at all. Online ordering is available through their website so I was easily able to place my order while still in the clinic's parking lot and make my way there with just enough time for it to be ready to grab and go. Seating inside is still plentiful and charming. Staff was friendly as I walked up to the counter to get my order. No complaints at all which is very impressive all these years later! read more

Went here because it is near Toyota and it is also near a lot of business too. Saw a lot customers are from the hospital. Got turkey sandwich and a cold brew for lunch. Yum. Turkey slices were stack pretty high, with fresh bread and some veggies, made a good sandwich. Decent food, pleasant ordering experience with a college town cafeteria vibe. The Americano coffee left a bit to be desired...very expensive for what tasted a bit like gas station coffee. I came here yesterday for lunch, with my mom, and it was my second time here; I guess I forgot to leave a review the first time. It's a very cute cafe, prices are a little high but they are on par with other places in the area. The first time we went here, we split the caprese sandwich and the grilled cheese; both were very good although I think I liked the caprese sandwich better. This time I was looking for something with a little less dairy, so I had the turkey pistachio sandwich, and my mom had the grilled cheese trio. I was surprised the grilled cheese trio was just one grilled cheese sandwich, but with three different cheeses, presumably - I had assumed they were maybe three small grilled cheese sandwiches. They will bring you your meals to your table and we have cleaned up ourselves both times, but I did see people leaving things at tables both times, so I'm not sure which is expected. You get two slices of dill pickle with your sandwiches, I do wish they gave chips or something else for the prices. Overall though, a very cute cafe, and I would come back again when on the north side of town. read more

My experience this morning won all five stars on the basis of the unbelievably rich eavesdropping and people watching ambiance. This included: an international double date with curly haired men and women with hair straighter than most railroad tracks; an intense discussion of union contracts and double board certification of national class medical professionals; a small family that appeared displace from a southern climate but with well worn stylish snow boots and the cutest daughter of all time; a collection of international faculty wives chattering in a language beyond my comprehension; nerds discussing tech with stylish glasses from European designers...or something like that. Was back for a cardamom rose latte and green tea matcha muffin with candied ginger chunks. Ugh. So good! The muffin was perfection with a discernible though not to overpowering matcha flavor and the candied ginger with a sweet zing. The candied ginger works even better than the crystallized ginger on this muffin. Moist crumb and not too sweet. *chefs kiss* so happy I managed to nab the last one on a Sunday morning. Each specialty latte stands out here and the cardamom rose was just the right balance of spice, warmth and floral notes. One of my faves here. Staff was friendly and helpful as usual. I've been to Songbird Cafe a few times as it's pretty close to where my brother lives. Most recently, Nate and I stopped in for a breakfast and to get some work done. There's a sign right on the front door that says they turn the wifi off on weekends. I've never really seen this anywhere else, so it's kind of funny to me. But it's really more of a restaurant vibe than a coffee shop/getting work done kind of place, I guess. Luckily we were there on a weekday and the wifi was sufficient for us. There is a definite lack of outlets anywhere in the dining area, though. Order at the counter, then they will assign you to a table (they have numbers on them). We got an omelette, breakfast sandwich, and a couple of coffee drinks. I was a little surprised at the prices - $14 for the omelette and almost $8 for a breakfast sandwich. I guess I'm used to lower prices in college towns but this is pretty far from campus. My latte was good and the food was okay. The omelette was a little dry and definitely needed seasoning/hot sauce (which they provided). I had some of the breakfast sandwich, that was pretty tasty but also needed some seasoning. The potatoes that came with the omelette were also under seasoned and not as tender as I would've preferred. They do have a lot of menu items and lunch options. I've stopped in here twice so far but this is my go to stop when I'm in Ann Arbor and I want to quick lunch or coffee. Once I ordered online for pick up and another dined in. Each time I was amazed by the unique offerings and delicious flavors. Prices are much more reason compared to another sandwich institution in the area and Songbird's portions are actually lunch sized which is appreciated. I think I got the same sandwich both time because it's so good - the pistachio turkey: Turkey, goat cheese, fig jam, and apple slices with pistachio crumble on homemade bread. It's unconventional but such a good combination. I also always get their house made chips which are crunchy and salty, perfect bite that's not greasy and satisfies that chip itch. I've gotten the iced tea and coffee as well. The space during the week is a fast casual vibe - you order at the counter then they bring you the food to your table. You pick the table which varies from bench seating to tables. The place is cute and has nice restrooms. Wasn't very busy when I went but was near closing - a late lunch for me. Was in the area and was looking for a new lunch spot outside of my usual AA eats. After reading the reviews, I knew I had to try this place out! It's not a big place. But there are quite a few tables. It gets very busy and tables fill up quick. If you happen to snag a table, let them know at the front counter when you're placing your order. If you don't, they can assign a table to you when it's available. If you're solo like I was, there is a bar counter seating with chairs against the window. I started with the chicken tortilla soup which was really good. Then I tried the Pistachio Turkey Sandwich. The goat cheese and crunch of the apples was SO good. I also had an iced lavender latte which was really delicious! Really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Service was really fast and everyone was very friendly! The food was okay. We got the Phoenix breakfast sandwich, the chicken tortilla soup, and the phoenix. We also got a lavender latte to sip on as it was getting quite chilly outside. The chicken tortilla was spot on and had the spicy warm-ness I was craving. The Phoenix was a standard, delicious breakfast sandwich with some smooth aoli. That complemented everything well. However, the home style potatoes were more on the soggy side and had this underling taste of burnt oil. The chicken wrap really missed the mark with me as the flavors didn't really blend well together. The chicken was coated in this sickenly sweet honey sauce that had only a touch of gochujang taste. I totally understand what they were going for, but I did not prefer it. The latte also had way too much syrup and overpowered the coffee and milk. If they toned down the sweet levels, it would be much more my style. Service was fast and I liked that you just pay up front and can leave whenever. The ambiance was the best part of this cafe. With its large windows and chill vibe, I could see myself definitely sitting here to relax, study, or do work. I want to definitely come back and give songbird another try! read more

I lived in Ann Arbor for six years and this place has got to be one of my favorites. It's definitely a bit more expensive, but their sandwiches are unique and tastes wonderful. My go-to order is the Pistachio Turkey sandwich (deli turkey meat, goat cheese, apples, fig jam and pistachios) and the tomato bisque soup. I really love the sweet crunch of the apple mixed with the more strong pungent taste of goat cheese. The fig jam is not something I normally eat so I appreciate the unique combination of flavors that complement one another in a great way. All my taste buds are happy and satisfied. Oh, and their bread is amazing. The sea salt chips on the side is a nice pairing. The tomato bisque is always yummy and comes with a couple of the wonderful tasting bread, drizzled with a bit of olive oil. I love dipping the bread in the soup - a perfect blend of hearty carbs along with the sweet and tangy flavor of the soup. Yum! Also their cold brew is one of my favorites in the area! Getting the sandwich, soup, and cold brew is definitely a nice treat-yourself :) They close on Mondays which I often forget and then I get sad when I drive by and see that I can't order anything until the next day. read more

The Songbird Cafe remains to be one of my favorite coffee shops and brunch places in Ann Arbor. My go-to items are the specialty, flavored lattes and any of the matcha pastries. Of the tasty latte flavors, cardamom rose, lavender, and matcha, matcha is definitely my favorite!! The brunch items are also not bad. I love the breakfast dishes and hot sandwiches, though I would say I mainly come here to pick up things to go than dine-in. There is table seating next to the coffee shop area for folks to dine in if they would prefer. There tends to be a longer line towards mid-morning so I suggest getting there earlier rather than latter to skip a long wait. There is a surface lot available lot available for parking. Sometimes the front lot gets crowded and full, but I've always found a spot behind the building. There's a small, indoor hallway you can use to cut through towards the front of the building where Songbird cafe is located. Definitely one of my staple coffee shops in town, will be back! read more

Was looking at recommendations for reviews from FB college group and didn't find anything that had plenty of parking. This is a hidden gem near our hotel away from the hustle bustle of downtown and campus. It is a bakery & cafe. Large seating area and the tables are numbered so they will ask you where you're seated to bring you the dishes. The Bulgogi Parmesan Omelette with the home fries were delicious! The Pistachio Turkey sandwich was very good. The Tumeric Ginger Honey latte hit the spot on a cold winter day. Service was friendly and efficient and the restaurant is clean. My favorite go-to place for brunch when I am in the area for work. I usually get the same thing: omelet with bacon, smoked gouda, and spinach. So good and fresh! I love that they come with potatoes. It is definitely a more casual experience if dining in, it isn't like a server for your table individually but staff does come around if you need anything like condiments, water, etc. Or at least direct you to where it is. I'm grateful to the NCRC (UM research center) for two things - one being introducing me to Songbird. It's a ten minute walk away and I spent many breaks here. Before the bubble tea shops opened in Ann Arbor, Songbird was MY SPOT for the taro vanilla bean steamer... I was so surprised a cafe in Michigan would have taro as a flavor and Songbirds went above and beyond my favorite drink. The sandwiches also changed my life. The bread here is amazing and the bread also comes with soup that you can dip in olive oil which... damn. Anyway - the pistachio turkey is my favorite sandwich on this planet. It's thicc, while packed full with flavors and texture. The goat cheese along with the apple slices and fig jam complement each other super well.
