This is the closest coffee shop other than Songbird Cafe to the UM and VA hospitals so I often find myself taking a quick trip over here to get some good coffee. One of their seasonal specials was the salted maple cappuccino and I craved that drink- had to get it at least once a week. It was spot on. Also being mostly gluten free as a gluten sensitive girlie, they have the best gf chocolate chip cookie I have found so far in Ann Arbor. I probably should find out which bakery it's from, but regardless you will not be disappointed. I also did share a cruffin the other day when my mom was in town and it was very good. I love the patio and lights outside as well. Lots of seating too. And the barista was so nice the other day I forgot to say to-go and she happily put my latte in a cup. read more

This is such a cute coffee shop (that converts to a bar later in the day!) on the northside of Ann Arbor, right off of Plymouth road and in the mix near Kellogg Eye Center/Argo Park, it's in a really prime location. Parking is tough here since it's right off the main road and they don't have their own parking lot. You just have to circle around the side streets of the nearby neighborhoods and snag a parking spot somewhere there. But there should be a decent amount of options and just a small walk on over to the shop afterwards. Lowertown is a great place to go with friends on a good weather day, while you're waiting for your brunch spot at Northside Grill, or just even come here for a yummy brunch! They serve both food and drinks and both are phenomenal. The food is unique, the space is so bright and inviting, and it's my go-to for remote working whenever I'm in Ann Arbor and especially don't want to pay for parking and get some proper work done. I have had two reviews and raising from 2 to 4. When I get out to walk I will stop by for a coffee or just to take a break at outside seating. It appears they have staying power. Coffee is still not to my liking. Though the pour over yet to try which cost about $7 compared to drip at $3.50. Good crowd inside and outside studying and using free wi-fi. The service today was good. The coffee so so. The ambiance for a beautiful September and sitting outside is great. The bus stop off of Moore and Traver is convient to use. read more

Have never been here but stopped in for a drink after I was out at an event. They have a cool modern space and specialty cocktails as well as classics and NA. They also have coffee during the day. Everyone was friendly and the drink I got was good! The only downside is parking: couldn't figure out where to park and the only information was on the door of the business which isn't super helpful if you're driving. We ended up parking on the street across the street by Kellogg. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed with seemingly students. I just wanted a quick drink so I ordered an iced chai with skim, but they said they only had whole and oat milk (weird?). Not sure if they make the chai or it's from somewhere but it was sweet and bland, and the oat milk combo was not good. I would not order this again; it just tasted bizarre. I'll continue going to Roos for their bomb chai. I figure this place has decent cocktails and coffee, but my experience there today was just not it. read more

Super cute spot for some remote work! Classic options for coffee drinks, chai, and matcha, with oat milk as an option for non-dairy folks. A small assortment of sweet and savory pastries as well. I tried their matcha latte with oat milk, which was great. Good quality matcha and the option to not add sweetener, which I appreciated. Also tried a savory spinach, goat cheese, and zataar pastry and it was very tasty! I imagine would be even better a little warmed up :). Wi-Fi is available until 5pm, to help transition the daytime cafe to an evening bar. Cool concept, with switchover to cocktails, mocktails, and other evening beverages later in the day. Interior is bright and comfortable, with plenty of plugs for students or remote workers. They also have a cute outdoor space with plenty of additional seating, some of which is shaded. Parking during the day may be a little tricky as there isn't a dedicated lot onsite. There's a lot across the street that is free after 5pm and all day on the weekends. Do not park in Northside Grill's lot. I ended up street parking a short walk away, but be aware that many streets in the area have time limits. read more

Glad to see another cafe open up in Ann Arbor, so I knew I had to check it out while I was visiting. One of the few great things about Lowertown is that it opens pretty late (but it's also a bar). My friends and I went earlier in the afternoon (before their one hour closing break from 3-4 PM) this past Tuesday and the vibes were of your typical cafe -- friendly baristas, comfortable spaces and seating to study or hang out with friends. I'm not sure if this is the same ambiance when it's later in the evening and more of a bar kind of vibe. Lowertown gets their coffee beans from Hyperion, which is one of the best Ann Arbor roasters. They also have a small selection of pastries for sale if you want something to complement your drink. Their coffee selection is on the smaller side, but they have all your basic espresso-based drinks (cappuccino, latte -- vanilla & mocha) along with some black coffee (drip & cold brew). I tried an oat milk cappuccino (+0.50 for oat milk) and that was not bad. The espresso notes mixed with the oat milk had a more acidic after taste, which is not my preference. One of my friends got a dirty chai (chai is 5.50 and adding espresso shot was extra) which ended up being closer to 8.00. The chai flavors really shined through and it's on the sweeter side without a strong coffee flavor. The drink was on the smaller side, so probably not worth it. Another friend got an iced vanilla latte which was pretty sweet and he enjoyed it (the espresso flavor was obvious, too). Overall, great new coffee shop that you should check out. The drinks are not bad but the interior is fantastic. I really like the sage green and white walls lined with white oak furniture aesthetic. If I was still a student, I'd definitely spend a lot of my time here studying. read more

I want to love Lowertown but I'm not quite there yet with them. I first went on an evening for cocktails. I liked ordering on the qr code and the service when our drinks came was great! They were attentive and made sure we had a great experience. We really liked our cocktails. I will say, the vibe of the patio felt like a little mismatched for a nice cocktails moment. When I went during the day for coffee it felt like a much better fit ambience wise. The patio felt super chill with people hanging out and coworking. However, the customer service fell short when ordering coffee. It felt like we were bothering the staff by just trying to order. Once I ordered my partner was still deciding on his order and the staff member looked visibly annoyed. There was no line and this just really killed the mood for our experience here. I might check them our again on a nice day to be outside and hope for a better experience read more

Great coffee shop that recently opened up in north Ann Arbor. I discovered it one weekend while biking in the area. There's a large, comfortable outdoor patio and bike rack next to the shop. This shop serves both coffee/tea and alcohol. There were varieties of beers on tap when I visited. I ordered an iced half-caf Americano which was smooth and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. There are also small pastries available if you'd like a bite with your drink. It's a good location for catching up with friends over coffee/tea as well as studying. I'm a big fan of Lowertown Cafe, especially as someone who spends a lot of time on North Campus. The coffee is great, using Hyperion Coffee beans, and it's a great place to work during the day. At night, Lowertown turns into a bar, and hosts my favorite trivia night. The drinks are reasonably priced, service is good, and it's a fun place to hang out with friends. They're always changing and improving things, like the new pergola on their large outdoor patio. Do be mindful of parking availability, but if you're there on nights or weekends, the large UM parking lot across the street is free to use. read more

EEEP!! The dream neighborhood coffee shop and bar. We have long awaited its opening and have been taking full advantage. We love this spot. Hyperion is the best and their lattes are phenomenal. There's plentiful seating inside and out (dogs are allowed on the patio) offering fire pits, an opening window at the bar and they have a fun selection of board games. The atmosphere is unmatched, so beautiful but not trying too hard. There's a reason this place has been packed with townies recently. My husband and I have loved running into people we know already and meeting new people in this space. Personally, it's fun to watch parents come in with their kids because we get to giggle and dream about the day we may get to walk down with our future little one since it's so perfectly tucked into the neighborhood haha! It's sweet to have a place that doesn't just feel like a way to get a cup of coffee but adds value to where you live. From work to playing cards to just chatting, Lowertown has already been a gift. I've been here a few different times and the last two times I've been here the service wasn't great. The woman ordering in front of me asked what syrups they had and the guy told her they were on the menu and pointed up (to the menu on the wall). Every question she asked he seemed more annoyed. My group had the same experience and we were afraid to ask any more questions because each response sounded liked we should have known the answer. It's a great spot and awesome outdoor area but they need some help with customer service. read more
