    French toast and bacon!
    Jude R.

Felt like home! Really loved this place. It is a total dive, which adds a lot to the charm of the place. The food was great, served while hot and plenty of food for the price. Everyone's meal was prepared correctly. The service was good and our waitress was very nice and efficient. We all got different meals. I had the french toast, which was excellent and the half order was enough. The bacon was also very good. If I lived in the area, this would be a regular place for me.

I was seeking a proper Chicago dog. Frank's is close, but not quite right. No Vienna beef dog. Seemed to be a garden variety dog. Little snap to the casing. Down on flavor. Also missing the poppyseed bun. I did like the NY dog. The sauerkraut was sufficiently sauer. Yay! Swift and attentive service. Good sanitation. Oddly quiet for a weekday lunchtime. Will I return? Probably not. Their location is inconvenient for me. If I want a basic dog ... CostCo has a better dog and is a better value.

Comfort diner food at a good price. This place is extremely close to campus. My friend & I come here after our morning classes for brunch. The service here is a bit slow. It takes a while for food to come out, especially when the restaurant is packed. The food is how you expect a diner to serve.. fresh toast, pancakes, omelette. If it's not on the menu, you can probably order it & the chef can try to make it for you. The Farmer's omelette is a huge portion plus hash browns and toast for $8.50. Very worth. The French toast is another popular item. You can order half sizes

This place is your average breakfast diner. Nothing particularly special about any of the menu items, and it tastes similar to what you might make at home for breakfast. The atmosphere is nostalgic and homey. The prices were a little bit more expensive than I would expect based on how simple the food was.

Screw the fancy brunches at Sava's or Avalon. Frank's is a classic, greasy spoon, hole-in-the wall diner. The restaurant isn't that big, and it has a lot of small, 2 person seating. However, it never seems to be crowded or have a line forming outside like some other restaurants. Which is surprising, because Frank's probably gives you the most bang for your buck. They don't have fancy breakfasts like eggs benedict or lox bagels, but they do have great classics like french toast, omelettes, and pancakes. I ordered the two eggs and half french toast, which was only $6.50! The french toast was a little unorthodox, as it was covered in cinnamon sugar. They were nice and sweet, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I was amazed by how empty this place was, and how cheap breakfast was! Everything is under 10 bucks! The service was a little bit slow and impersonal, but food came out so fast and it was definitely good! Somehow Frank's has stayed under the radar, so if you're looking for a quick, delicious brunch, definitely give this place a try -- if you can find it!

Delicious breakfast! The service was great and the place itself was pleasant and quiet

Good food, good people, good prices, and comfy atmosphere. Ordered the farmers omelet with toast. Huge portion with hashbrowns inside the omelet. All for under $10. Finished it up and rolled on outta there straight to bed. Will be back again for some more food items on the menu. Def dig this diner and its staff/chefs.

This Sunday, my mom invited myself and my siblings to join her for brunch. The ambience was amazing - with lovely natural lighting and gorgeous table settings. The menu makes every dish seem mouthwatering and delicious. When the plates came out, they were gorgeous and the food looked so inviting. Unfortunately, the taste was completely lacking. If you're going to charge the prices they're charging, the flavor should be amazing in every single bite. We sampled four different dishes, and none blew me away. Some, were even borderline "bad." Here's a rundown: mushroom pizza - the description makes it seem like it will be cheesy and full of flavor, but it was very one note duck confit pizza - had three pieces of duck on it and was otherwise covered in hot peppers lemon blueberry pancake - more of a skillet cake - sauce was the best part, otherwise dry on the bottom Raclette burger - $30 which is almost comparable in price to a burger I had at The Four Seasons in Maui. That burger, was worth every penny. This one had absolutely no flavor. The meat tasted like mush - definitely lacked seasoning, and there was not a speck of cheese to be found. If you're going to call a burger a raclette, it should be oozing with cheese. grilled Romaine salad - leaves were bitter and the dressing again, looked delicious, but had no flavor. The flavors did not compliment each other at all - with the pickled grapes, taking away from the dish and contrasting very starkly against the rotten tasting lettuce Brown sugar oat milk latte - really the only thing that delivered both on looks and on flavor. Sadly, not high on my list of places to return. It kind of made me think of Vegas: lots of pomp and glam which momentarily distracts you into thinking you're having the best time of your life. But in retrospect, not very fulfilling.

For background, my boyfriend and I are from Ohio and ate here around the same time last year and have been talking about our experience ever since. My boyfriend suggested we go and get Spencer again for lunch and saw that they do not take reservations online. That is important to this review, that they don't take lunch reservations online. We got to Spencer around 2:06 and it was busy which obviously is no issue at all. When we first talk to a server, she said it would be about a ten, fifteen minute wait. Then a man came over and said about 40 minutes, again no problem at all. The issue is that they don't "do callbacks", so they don't take your number. You are expected to literally wait around the restaurant in order to hold your place, however the man said to just come back within 40 minutes. We were willing to wait, again with it no issue at all as we were expecting to wait anyway. We walked around downtown for about 30 minutes and went back just to check in. The same man said it would take a little longer, 15 minutes but that we were first in line and would be sat first. Again this is no issue, you can't gage on how long people will stay and eat so we were willing to wait. We let him know that we will be waiting outside then so we don't miss our reservation. A couple were actually in the same boat as us waiting outside. Finally, after about another addition 30 minutes a couple left the restaurant so the couple outside with us walked in and we were behind them. The man saw us, apologized and said they were in front of us because they "made a reservation online." Then crossed off their name below us on a sheet of paper. I'm sorry? I checked and you cannot make a reservation until 5 PM. So what in the actual world was that? I wish I was kidding and I know how I sound here but it was so obvious that he let them in before us. At this point we were in a catch 22, leave after waiting for an hour and thirty minutes at this point just to have them come out and look for us or stay for another promised "fifteen minutes". We waited since we did drive 2 hours and 30 minutes specifically for this restaurant. Finally, after almost an hour and forty five minutes we were sat. Almost half the menu was sold out. I just HAVE to laugh at this point. Apologies were said and at this point like what were we supposed to do? We ordered everything that was left, bread, olives, salami with carrots and a celery salad which they had to make a substitute with the salad. Whatever I would've eaten scraps at this point. I had one glass of wine and after all was said is done, they gave us last call. I am still laughing at this point. We ate our small dishes and promptly asked for the check, which was 58 dollars including gratuity. I am not even going to mention the countless people we talked to outside asking us to hurry up and eat fast so they can get in. This review is for no one BUT the management at Spencer. As someone who works in the service industry and understands set backs, you NEED to figure out your reservation system. Either you have one or you don't. Talk to your staff when these things happens so they don't lie to costumers when they accidentally seat someone before them. I loved the food, loved the atmosphere, but my God please figure out the seating and waiting system. I wish you all the very best!

AMBIANCE = 4 I have read reviews that inside is dated. I am ok with it. The changes going on in Ann Arbor. It is nice to see stability. Be thankful a place weathering city transformation and not closing thier doors. If things get renovated so do the prices. With the price of food... 2. FOOD/DRIINKS = 4 I had Salomon. Other two had White Fish. London Broil. No one had any complaints. Food was well flavored and enjoyed the meal. Beer was Two Hearted on tap. Good. Red wine was house and had robust flavor. 3. SERVICE = 5 Our server was on top of everything. Friendly. Not overbearing. Drinks came in good order as well as food. 4. BATHROOM = 4 Clean and maintained. 5. PRICING = 3 On part for the times we live in. Inflation of the last 4 years created new norms. One area that tends to change is tipping. With wages for michigan getting to $15.00 all that has to play into pricing. So I give cash tips. The whole thing of putting tip pricing on the bill. I think many see it. 1. Brussel sprout appt. $15.00. 2. Meals were $27.00. If you went with steaks things get pricey. But if one follows news the beef herds are being reduced. So days of low cost beef meals are in the past. We just do not eat out as much so when we do it is a treat. 6. OBSERVATION The bar area was full. What I liked for a Thursday night is number of trades people at the bar. Parking is adequate. Not sure what a Friday or Saturday would look like... We were seated at table near bar area. One comment was we would have choose a booth the next time. Noise level in our area was loud. 7.
