We went for the first time on Sunday and it was not the quality we expected. It was great to be able to put our name on the wait list before we left home. We were seated within 5 minutes of the given time. Once we sat down. It took quite some time to have someone come to our table. All of the cold drinks came out; however, a plain cup of coffee took over 10 minutes to arrive at the table. I would have understood had the restaurant been super busy. Unfortunately, there were many open tables... so there shouldn't have been a reason for the wait. When we finally got out food from the kitchen, only 3 of the 5 of us were served. It took another 5 minutes for the remaining 2 customers to have been served. The food was cold. We asked for the bacon extra crispy, that wasn't to par. First time may be the last time. Based on the menu and things I'd seen on social I had high hopes for First Watch but alas, they did not live up to my expectations. First the pros--everything we ordered looked great. It came out promptly and made for good pictures. The portions and price points were pretty reasonable as well. I also like that they do have a breakfast combo meal on the menu. I often have a hard time choosing between salty and sweet and being able to order the Trifecta (a belgian waffle, eggs, and meat) meant I didn't have to hem and haw too much. I went with my eggs over medium and opted for the pork sausage. The cons--while everything LOOKED good the flavors weren't particularly remarkable. Maybe my menu choice wasn't very creative but that's what I typically order from other breakfast joints and I've definitely had better. Also, while it's nice that they have some outdoor seating it isn't the nicest view (they're located in a strip mall) and the high sun in the afternoon was really brutal where we were sitting. That said, it's still a very nice option to have the outdoor option. The service was adequate but not what you would call welcoming. When we first went inside to get a table they were a little brusque with us and upon sitting outside our waitress wasn't exactly attentive. When she did come around she was very nice though. So yeah, I haven't been in a huge hurry to get back here since my first visit but I do have high hopes for them. The ideas, the menu, all of it is good, it just needs a bit of refining. read more

I was told about this place from a friend and was asked about joining for brunch. It sits off of Saline road in a plaza beside Target. The place was pretty crowded and busy but had plenty parking. My friend was already seated so I had no wait. The waitress was very friendly and quickly asked if wanted anything to drink. I got the Carmel crunch coffee which was pretty tasty. I got the Trifecta for my main meal. I am not a regular breakfast person but this was a delight to get. I got a waffle, chicken sausage and scrambled eggs. The Belgian waffle came with a fruity syrup mix. Pretty good stuff and a pretty good breakfast that hit the spot. My friend got the potato with sausage and gravy. I tried that and it was also great. The best word I have to describe First Watch is: fine. It's fine. There is nothing really bad about it, but also nothing particularly great. The dishes are typical breakfast fare, with not much of interest going on in the menu. The most interesting part is certainly their pressed juices. I really liked these a lot! However, most everything else was pretty generic. This place looks like a typical modern breakfast spot. The place is clean, well spaced out, and able to accommodate groups of various sizes. The service is good, although you can certainly tell that the aim is to turn over tables as quickly as possible. I can't fault them for that, though. What I can fault them for is their abysmal menu design. For a restaurant that self-advertises as "health conscious" and notes that they have vegetarian and vegan options, the menu here is not dietary inclusive at all. It is pretty standard these days to indicate at least which dishes on your menu are vegetarian. This is not the case at First Watch. There is no indication of this on their menu and there was *one* singular vegan dish. Look, I'm not trying to be unreasonable here. It's fine if you don't want to offer vegan dishes. But First Watch themselves claim to do so. It is, in my opinion, unfair to do this if you aren't actually going to provide that. It feels like false advertising. Overall, I would say that if you are looking for a decent American-style brunch place, you will like First Watch. If you have any sort of dietary limitation, or if you are looking for unique and thoughtful dishes, then give this place a miss. read more

Terrible experience that easily could've been much better if the server cared about her customers. I ordered a breakfast sandwich but didn't want all of the sourdough bread, so I asked her if I could have it in a wrap (they have several other items that come as a wrap - so I thought it would be easy). She looked right at me and nodded. So I ordered that. She brought me sourdough bread - and I said that I asked for a wrap, to which she replied they don't offer it as a wrap. I reminded her that I asked her and she said ok - it's the reason I ordered it. She actually replied "No, I never said that" which triggered me. I reminded her that she did, which is why I ordered it. She left abruptly and a manager came and said she'd make it as a wrap and that the server just wasn't aware. Not knowing is totally acceptable - telling me she didn't say I could get it as a wrap was lazy and lacking in accountability. she didn't have to say that - she could've just said "I'm sorry, let me see if they can do that for you" and all would be well. But she needed to feel right while showing me up in front of my table of friends, and it honestly made me lose my appetite. What a small, petty thing to have to leave a review about. It could've been avoided with some basic service etiquette (if not just listening to your customer) - but instead, I didn't bother eating the wrap and have no interest in ever going back to First Watch. She never even apologized lol. I am a regular bruncher in Ann Arbor and there are way too many places with comparable food and superior service to waste another meal at First Watch. read more

By far the best brunch restaurant in town. The waiter was attentive & the food was beyond amazing. The steak in the steak & egg hash was cooked medium just how I like it & the eggs were extremely fluffy. In fact ive never had eggs that had that much fluffiness ever so it's super unique. My wife had the breakfast tacos and she said it was the best breakfast taco she's ever had! The only thing that wasn't the best was the cinnamon roll, it was dry and tough to cut not really much flavor either. But overall I'd recommend this place to anyone and is worth the wait! On our holiday trip, my boyfriend was feeling tired/sick because we didn't get in until 3am last night to our hotel, so I placed an online to go order for two orders of toast and chia seed pudding. I waited for over 40 minutes before someone even made eye contact with me, another 5 mins after that before anyone even greeted me (granted the lady who did finally greet me was incredibly nice!) I totally get how busy the serving staff and kitchen are, but what doesn't sit well with me is that there was another blonde woman, who looked like she was a hair stylist at a nearby salon, judging from her apron and hair, and she also had been waiting when I got there but any server who walked by would sympathetically make eye contact, greet her, or apologize for the wait. When she left, I waited another 30 minutes while two tables who were seated after I got there got their food and left before I was even greeted. People were actively trying avoid making even eye contact with me, until again, the very nice and busy server greeted me. Ugh, it's just so frustrating to be treated as subhuman, and it's hard to not believe it's because I'm not a pretty, blonde, white woman, but instead a sleep deprived, Asian woman. Four stars for the waiting line via APP or website. I think they can do better regarding the reservation system. Four stars for staff and services.
