Let's do the loco moco!!! I did it, but with a Portuguese twist. One of my biggest missions while in Waikiki was to have a loco moco for breakfast. Not only did Eggs n' Things have it, but they had a special Hawaiian version of this. I mean, how often am I in Hawaii? Basically never! So, I told myself that I had to try this rendition of a Hawaiian classic. This location of Eggs n' Things is conveniently located right across the street from Waikiki Beach. Great if you're looking for something close by, but not so great if you're in a rush. I passed by this location a few times and kept noticing the long lines. I decided to take a chance and popped in on a Friday morning around 9:15ish. I was surprised at how short the line was at the time. I hopped in that line with the quickness! The process is kind of a little wonky. You wait in line outside and they give you a menu to look at while you're waiting. Once you reach the hostess at the outdoor podium, you place your order. Then, you have to wait again to pay inside. And then, you have to wait AGAIN to be seated. A little confusing, but the place is kind of small so I figure that they don't want to overload the cashiers and to have a crowd of people waiting inside. I ordered a plantation iced tea (iced tea infused with pineapple juice) and the Hawaiian loco moco which consists of steamed rice topped with a beef patty, 2 eggs, brown gravy, diced Portuguese sausage, sautéed mushrooms, and onions. It didn't take too long before I was seated, maybe about 15 minutes or so. I was given a window seat with an excellent view of the beach! If you have the luxury of being able to wait for a window seat, do it! The views are really pretty. My server came by to first deliver my utensils and a then my food a little bit after that. Hubba hubba! It was definitely a very memorable meal. The plantation iced tea was good, but nothing exceptional. But, the Hawaiian loco moco was very tasty! The addition of the Portuguese sausage, sautéed mushrooms and onions added an immense amount of flavor. I really loved this twist on the original! Very flavorful and very filling. The only downside was that it was very salty. I'm not sure if they added extra salt or if it was from the combination of the beef patty and Portuguese sausage, but the salt could have definitely been toned down a bit. It was still able to enjoy it even with the excess salt since the rice helped to balance it a bit. This wasn't the best breakfast that I had during my time here, but it was still solid. I wouldn't mind visiting again and trying a different dish in the future. read more

Heard great things about this place but ended up being disappointed. For a place they regularly has over an hour wait and doesn't accept reservations, the food was just okay, service was fine (albeit a bit lackluster compared to everywhere else we've tried so far), and ambiance was mediocre. We had a far better experience in every regard at Lulu's down the street (where we ended up yesterday when the wait here was too long) and there was no wait there at all. If you do come to eggs n' things, definitely join the wait list about an hour before you head over. read more

Always a line, Eggs 'n Things draws a crowd, and a line, day and night. It's probably the large portions at reasonable prices that keep people coming back. Plus the atmosphere is super casual, think old school wooden booths and kitschy prints, so you can come right from the beach, which is just across the street. As the name suggests, many dishes contain eggs but with a Hawaiian or Asian spin: Hawaiian loco moko, fried rice & eggs, Portuguese sausage and eggs, Eggs Benedict with Kailua pork, Ahi & eggs, kalbi & eggs and lots of omelette varieties. Definitely get a protein dish! The menu is heavy on the sweet offerings, and I mean super sweet! They take the already sugary and carb loaded French Toast, crepes, waffles or pancakes and top them with insane amounts of fruit and whipped cream. There are macadamia nut, rainbow, coconut, chocolate chip varieties of pancakes that are covered in banana, coconut, pineapple or strawberry whipped creme. And if you aren't in a sugar coma and need more, they are served with maple, guava or coconut syrup. Yikes! I strongly suggest getting one order of something sweet to share with everyone in your party, while ordering several plates of protein so you don't send someone into diabetic shock, no joke! We shared a macadamia nut pancake order and just a few bites was enough and sent my sugar spiking! And I'm healthy. While this is comfort breakfast food, I recommend going for brunch or dinner because eating food this heavy and rich early in the day will put you in a food coma. If your only plans are sleeping on the beach, have at it! read more

Open early. Service is fast. Prices are cheap. For all the jet lag, this place is open before the sun comes up and is friendly for kids.

I freaking love this place. Both locations in Waikiki But this is my favorite of the 2. Great friendly attentive staff. Best chocolate chip pancakes ever. Hot chocolate is on point too. They have excellent coffee, the spam and eggs is one of my gotos. You have to get there early because they get busy as soon as they open. I come to hawaii every 8 weeks and go here for breakfast majority of the days I spend here. read more

We would have waited 90 minutes after I was put on the waitlist with time extensions, however upon checking in the location was so dirty we left. I don't care how good something tastes but if the space is that dirty it can't be healthy. Good luck eggs 'n things. It was just gross. read more

Its like boarding a flight and you're in zone 5. Now calling zone 1, uh sir you're in zone 5. Uh no one else is at the airport, now boarding zone 2. Had a cup of coffee with someone else's lipstick stains on the cup. The panasada pancakes would have been really good. Too bad they sprinkled a pound of diabetes on it. The loco moco was not bad. The well seasoned steak and eggs was like chewing on a rubber band. The waiter asked if I wanted to pack the mound of sugar togo and I said bo thanks, he chuckled a little. I would say if there is no wait and you're starving try it out and use the pro tip sugar on the side. if there is more then a 5 minute wait move on. 2 stars for the panasada pancakes and the bland service. Otherwise it should be -2 stars. Not worth your time. read more

This place had a huge line with a wait of over an hour, which is understandable because of how popular they are. we decided to just order online instead of wait for a table. two of us wanted the special fruit whipped cream on our pancakes so we ordered that. we did not receive the whipped cream on either pancakes, and we paid almost $3 extra for it per stack. the food was delicious, but disappointing since we didn't receive what we paid for :( read more

Loco moco was amazing!! So flavorful and the sunny side eggs were made perfectly. We also got the French toast with chocolate chips which was really good but a little too sweet for my taste (although my boyfriend wanted the chocolate chips). I would've preferred the fresh strawberries :) Service was great with lots of room upstairs. Overall would definitely recommend!! read more

Great service and food. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the items on the menu. Looking forward to going back.

The wait is long but you can add your name to the Yelp waitlist before you even get there. Had I known I would have done this, as they send you a text when you are close to being called to allow you time to get there. This is basically one of the very few places for a full breakfast on Kalakaua so the lines can get pretty long even when you are early. We decided to wait it out, with the estimated time of 25 minutes. There are places to sit while waiting or you can walk around as they will send a text notification. The Yelp app also shows you your place on the waitlist. We ordered the vegetarian omelette with a side of 3 fluffy pancakes (other options were rice or potatoes) and an egg scramble with a side of 3 fluffy pancakes. The eggs came with a side of their salsa. The omelette was on the dry and thin side but otherwise was fine. The vegetables were fresh and plentiful. The pancakes were a lot bigger than I had anticipated. They were fluffy and light but I could only finish 1/3 of them. Coffee was okay and refilled multiple times. Prices were fair for the location and quality of food. We had a seat in a booth that faced the beach so it was nice to people watch while enjoying our breakfast. read more

Had a pretty good experience with Egg 'n Things (the other location) for brunch 3 days prior so we decided to stop by this particular location for breakfast pre-flight home. Got to Egg 'n Things around 8:30am on a Wednesday and there was a short wait (~15 minutes). This location operates differently; there is a line outside to order, pay, then get seated. Sat at the counter since that was the only table available. I ordered the minced portuguese sausage & eggs ($10.45) with an upgrade to macadamia nut pancakes (about $4 additional charge). The minced meat and eggs came in a scramble with green onions. It was simple yet satisfying. The macadamia nut pancakes were a complete disappointment. The macadamia in the batter was soggy and it was just almost flavorless; nothing too different from a regular buttermilk pancake. I would highly recommend going for the coconut pancakes instead! I tried this at the other location and it was delish (especially paired with the coconut syrup). read more

Wanting to solve the mystery [to us foreigners] that is the cult phenomena of Eggs n' Things' popularity, we ventured the ever constantly lengthy line that wraps around the front entrance daily because we figured...this place must be amazing, right? Weeeeelll.. Here's the thing. By the time you get inside and try the food, you realize (if you're like me) you've had breakfast of this quality and style before and honestly...there's nothing really remarkable or unique about it. That isn't to say it's not good, however. I had the corned beef hash and eggs and it was decent. Not quite as good as Jimmy's Egg or Village Inn, but decent. But there's two glaring issues I have with En'T. First, let's discuss the unusual practice of having folks pay before they eat, despite ostensibly looking and operating more like a table service restaurant on the inside. My issue comes with the fact that this does almost nothing to expedite service. I waited about 45 minutes for my meal to arrive, despite pre-ordering and pre-paying. Worst part about it is there were still several customers who had already paid and were impatiently waiting for a table. One guy claimed they had a pretty efficient system of getting folks in and out in a timely fashion but...I'm sorry, I just don't see it. Second problem I have is their pay service. It's surprisingly slow, despite utilizing a method similar to fast food joints. There really is no reason for this, considering what they're trying to accomplish here. The food itself is basically short order (think Waffle House meets McDonald's). So, I really don't understand why it took so long to receive my order. To recap, they aren't bad, per se. It's just like one other patron pointed out in another review; this place may be just a tad bit overrated. The hotel buffet I had yesterday was way better. I think without all the local overhype, this place would still be just A-OK. Ya know this place doesn't even sell toast, yet they have pancakes with damn near every meal? En'T gets 3 long ass lines with hyperbolic patrons all day out of 5. read more
