Just got back from The Egg and I and had another great breakfast. I got the veggie benedict and it was loaded with fresh vegetables, the eggs were perfectly poached an the hash browns were nice and crisp. The waitress was super nice and service was fast. Every summer when I vacation in Maine I have breakfast at the Egg & I. It is such a great place to eat breakfast. I get the same thing every time; fluffy old fashioned buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon. The staff are very nice and the atmosphere is great. Will be continuing to go here. read more

Enjoyed a wonderful Sunday morning breakfast here. The blueberry pancakes were as good as it gets - loaded with blueberries and served with blueberry butter and blueberry compote. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon was nice and crisp. The service was outstanding - Shelly was very friendly, made great recommendations on the menu, brought everything we needed, and kept our coffee cups full! I can see how some reviewers commented about it being a bit loud because at one point there were so many people talking we had a hard time talking to each other. Been coming here for decades and I'm never disappointed. This time I had the bob's special omelette and it was great. The homemade corned beef hash is incredible and the omelette was heavy and satisfying. Also had the double blueberry pancakes and they were fluffy and delicious. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Even when there is a long line, the wait isn't usually too bad because they can turn tables around pretty quick. An Ogunquit breakfast institution, just as the Ogunquit Lobster Pound across the street is THE place for lobster and steamers in town. Highly recommend. read more

Positives: Very fair priced. We had a very friendly waitress. All of the other employees seemed to be very friendly too. Not a long wait for breakfast. Needs improvement: The food, overall, was just sub-par in my opinion. I ordered something simple: French Toast with a Side of bacon. The French toast was luke warm and didn't seem to be cooked fully and the bacon was downright inedible. It tasted like chemicals. Didn't really make much sense. We were here 2 months ago, service was good. Staff was ok. We came back here today (2 months later) and the lady checking people in was the RUDEST MOST UNPROFESSIONAL person I have ever encountered. Its straightforward service, good breakfast stuff. We vacation in the area, and while there are many options nearby we make it a point to go to the Egg and I at least once during our stay every year. My favorite thing is the house made cornbeef hash. It is SO good. You can have it as a side, or in eggs Benedict or even in an omelette. It's delicious however you get it. We selected this restaurant due to the good reviews from TA and YELP. We were looking for a breakfast place that served pancakes as I have an aversion toward eggs. I have no problem with items made with eggs Monday you and enjoy pancakes, waffles and crepes. The parking lot was full of cars so we parked in the rear and had no problem finding a booth. We gave our usual order and the server was very friendly and efficient. I ordered my usual single blueberry pancake, order of very well done bacon and a fruit cup. The wife ordered a Belgian waffle. The large fruit cup looked wonderful and contained watermelon, pineapple, grapes, honeydew and cantaloupe. The pancake was small but loaded with blue berries which cost an extra $2 for each pancake, almost as much as the $3 pancake. If only an egg was added to the mix, instead of just water, the pancake would have tasted better. My bacon was what I have learned to accept here in this area, very little meat and paper thin. I think the pigs in Maine must be very skinny. The waffle was adequate and my wife said no quite as good as the Wild Blueberry Cafe. We will probably try another restaurant or breakfast tomorrow. read more

Our very favorite breakfast place each year. Lots of people from Massachusetts hope they were tested before coming. Very nice wait staff working very hard. Our yearly stop for breakfast when we are here every Day slight inconvenience with cash needed but we know that before we go. Best omelette and muffin ever. Me and my wife went there this past Monday for our 1 year anniversary. She ordered the bacon avocado omelette and I had the steak and cheese omelette. We decided to split one of their mammoth muffins. Everything was delicious, the steak was nice and flavorful, not greasy at all. They grilled the muffin for us and it was amazing as well. The waitstaff was very pleasant and would highly recommend going here if in the Ogunquit area. Will definitely go back next time we are up that way. read more

I've read so many good reviews about this place that I couldn't wait to go. Can't say I'll be back. Pancakes, the blandest I've ever tasted and the syrup was just as bad. No taste. Homefries!!!!! They have insulted the Homefrie. These were mush pototoes. Creamy. Taste wasn't terrible but they need another name. They were not homefries. Good service and friendly. read more

we were surprised how good this was - I had French toast (wheat bread, lot of flavor, not too heavy) and my wife had an omelette (very nice). We prefer a light breakfast that doesn't leave you feeling full and bloated - this was that type. If you want a heavy breakfast, go to Congdons or IHOP. Our 1 year old son is a real handful, wants to run around a restaurant and greet everyone - the wait staff were very friendly and accomodating, even entertaining him while we were getting organized to leave. read more

Driven by this place almost every time I've been too maine and it's always been packed. This time I'm up during the off season so figured if I went early I'd be able to get it and I was right there was no one there... like I thought it was closed except for the sign on the window. Got inside and was immediately greeted (obviously) and seated. Waitress was very nice and polite and very attentive. Food came out in a good time and was awesome I get the Irish Benedict almost every where I go while in Maine and so far this has been the best one I've had. Highly recommend this place if it's slow can't say what it's like when it's busy but after this experience I'm gonna find out when I come back. read more

We had a disappointing breakfast here on our penultimate day in Ogunquit. It started out okay: we got hot coffee right away, and my corned beef benedict was all right but nothing special. But my partner ordered a breakfast sandwich on rye with a side of baked beans, and it came on an English muffin with no beans. We had to ask our server twice for the beans before they came. I've been vacationing in Ogunquit since the 1980's and have always had fond memories of eating at 'The Egg and I'. Nevertheless, today's visit will be my last. My boyfriend and I woke up early to beat the rush arriving at 6:30 to a nearly empty parking lot. When we walked in there was no warm greeting just a annoyed looking waitress who ushered us to our table. The first thing we noticed was the menu that stated the establishment was cash only. I cannot believe that in 2014 places that depend on tourists still exist without accepting credit cards of any type. While there was an ATM in the front, beware there is a service charge of $2.75. The entire visit seemed extremely rushed by the waitstaff, which was ironic because it was an empty restaurant. We had to ask for water which is typically a given. The food itself was adequate. I got the Eggs Benedict which was pretty standard. It did arrive quickly and hot. The home fries were very soggy and bland; not worth it eating. My boyfriend got the coconut French toast which was simply plain French toast with toasted coconut sprinkled on top rather than being mixed into the batter. Not even halfway through the meal the waitress brought our check over and told us we could pay up front. This restaurant seems to only have making a quick turn over in mind. Customer service is non-existent. With so many fabulous breakfast options in the area, I would highly recommend choosing elsewhere. As another reviewer said one star is very generous. read more

This place always has a line, which is incredible since the food is not good. The next day we went down the road to Bintliff's and had a much better meal & better service with no wait. Mediocrity at its finest. A 30 minute wait, was followed by 10 minute wait till our waitress came by. Scrambled eggs tasted and looked like the powdered kind, the hollondaise sauce was bland, the pancakes were "meh" and the biscuits and gravy tasted like they were baked last month. Not a place that I would visit again. I had to park across the street, at the Lobster Pound (another bad experience). We were seated quickly, but that's where the service ended. Great food, but the wait can be a big problem. Expect to hang around outside for 30 to 45 minutes on a good day in the summer. Once you get inside, though, it's well worth it. Nothing really fancy here, just good service and huge portions. The specialty pancakes and French toast are excellent. Bring cash because they don't take debit or credit! Overall a great place to eat, we've been going here for 15 years and we're always happy with our food. Delicious blueberry pancakes and cinnamon raisin toast, good coffee and fast, friendly, efficient service. Solid breakfast selection, nothing over the top or innovative, but a good breakfast nonetheless.
