Our server was excellent. My wife has food allergies and she was very attentive in making sure that the kitchen was aware of her sensitivities and helped her make safe selections. Looking for a great breakfast after having poor hot breakfast at local hotel for 3 days . Normas nearby and very busy which I thought was a good sign . Once seated realized only 1 waitress for over 20 tables . The food arrived on appetizer sized plate , enough for a toddler . Went to Norma's on a busy weekend morning and was served a delicious omelette quickly. Prices very reasonable, my mother in-law loved the home fries and overall presentation. I haven't been her for a while and went with a friend for breakfast recently. She had blueberry pancakes, I had a plain bagel with cream cheese and bacon. Both of us had coffee. Our waitress, Cybil, was amazing - very friendly and refilled our coffees without being asked. My friend loved her pancakes and my bagel was good - I had it toasted instead of grilled and it was perfect. The bacon was crisp and not overcooked. The coffee was delicious! The service left a lot to be desired because the waitress did not seem to like being there, my fried eggs were so over cooked that they were chewy, the home fries had zero seasoning, and my friend's omelette was the thinnest thing I've laid eyes on. The food was very good, especially the bagel sandwich and the food prices are so reasonable. The people there are kind and the service was great. I live in MA and almost a week later I realized i left my jacket there and it is very special to me. I called and they were going to hold it for me. Within 1 hr Norma herself called me and said she would put it in the mail for me and I wouldn't have to travel 2 1/2 hrs to get it. The kindness in her voice and heart was overwhelming. The food was okay, nothing special. It is a very mediocre diner that you could find anywhere. Two out of three seafood dishes were out. Our server was in charge of our one table and the counter, and although there were only four people at the counter, she still left us sitting and waiting to ask for corrections to the mistakes she made. The very few times she did come check on us, we could hardly ask for anything before she went zooming off again. At one point we had to go up and ask about our order because we had seen multiple tables who came after us (with different servers) get their food and even leave before we got our food. If a restaurant is busy, I am very understanding of a wait time, however they were only seating about 1/3 of the restaurant, and even then, the part they were seating wasn't even full. I noticed that they had a lot of regulars, which to me, would normally be a good thing, however I noticed that the servers were much more attentive to them than the people that may just be stopping in for a quick meal. Ah Norma's. One of my favorite breakfast places. Is it the quaint atmosphere that makes it great? Or is it the food quality? Or both? To start off, there is typically never a long wait here, with the exception of perhaps Saturday or Sunday diners, the place is not "dead" per se, but is usually never "packed" either. The wait staff are very nice and attentive just enough not to get on your nerves with over-attentiveness. The food portions are reasonably generous to a person with the average stomach. Larger/smaller portions are available to people with bigger/smaller appetites of course. I've always come out with a full stomach every time. I've really never had a bad meal here. Prices are not too bad, considering there are fancier places around (The Stolen Menu, the Egg and I in Wells.) And no, I'm not saying this isn't fancy, I'm just saying it's not as expensive.
