I love going to Norma's! You get a good, hardy breakfast for a decent price. I always order the "Village Special" that consists of two eggs, a choice of bacon, sausage or ham, home fries, toast, hot beverage and juice. They know how to prepare poached eggs to perfection and they, also, pay attention to special requests. I find them to have friendly, prompt service... Norma's is the definition of basic. We stopped in this morning leaving York. I got the village breakfast that included ham, eggs, home fries, toast, a shot glass sized OJ and coffee. It was just bland, nothing special about the food. The price was ok as long as you don't get sides. I noticed It was $4.75 for a side of home fries which is almost as much as the meal ($6.75). The service was good. My coffee was never empty. I just have no reason to go back other than the fact it's conveniently located near the highway. read more

I had breakfast here with family last week, and it was perfection. The service was great, and the prices were amazing. Usually vacation destinations can charge insane amounts for meals, but not Norma's. They keep it real and reasonable. I ordered my son one pancake for $1.85! That's all he will eat, plus my bacon of course . The coffee was good and kept on coming. The food for our party of 5 came all together and in a timely manner. I always try to find the "local" spots when we are in Maine, and this is one of them. We did go mid week off season and the place was pretty busy. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive. Keep driving...not worth the stop. Small portions of plain old food. Nothing special here at relatively high prices for what you get. Our waitress was friendly once we were seated. Walked in at 10am on a Wednesday..no one waiting but us. No fewer than 8 staff members walked by us (some, multiple times) and didn't even bother to say, "I'll be right with you" or anything. It was as if we were invisible. Very annoying. Oh, and by the way...according to our daughter...the strawberries on the pancakes made the pancakes mushy. Deep fried no flavor, no potato right out of a frozen food bag. Bacon either packaged pre cooked or deep fried. Low quality bread for toast. The ole shot glass of OJ. The positives? It's clean and the breakfast is decent although uninspiring. Lunch..not so much. Two weeks ago I had a chicken salad sandwich. Now in most places chicken salad oozes out of the bread...not here, as there is hardly enough to cover the bread's surface. I have never had such a skimpy sandwich anywhere. Yesterday I decided to try the seafood chowder which was thickened w/ great amounts of flour which had not been fully incorporated. Not good. Even the grilled cheese had the taste of an old butter substitute...perhaps the grill had not been scraped? At any rate, I kept tasting it all afternoon. I agree that the omelet is paper thin. This place was a handy stop on a road trip through southern Maine. It's not too far off the interstate, and you can eat pretty quickly. The food is standard diner fare. My partner and I both had turkey club sandwiches, which come with fries, and they were good but not great. The service was fast and friendly, and the bathrooms were clean. We've been to Norma's a handful of times over the past decade. We've always been happy with everything. Today we stopped en route to Rangeley. We were disappointed in the portions--very small for the price. The "specials" came with small pancakes, hardly any potatoes, and what didn't look like two eggs. Also, had to ask the waitress for my tea that was included. Then, on our way out, I realized we should've gotten juice--it wasn't even offered to us despite being part of the special ordered. I am still hungry as I write this review. It is clean & friendly though. read more

I've been many times and generally like the place. Last month we were there a short time before closing. The waitress was done. Waited for drink refills she was annoyed with us. Waited and waited for the check while she sat at the counter eating lunch. We asked her for the check, she dismissed us saying she already gave it to us. She then started to berate us saying she gave us the check - we must have it. I finally raised my voice. She reluctantly re-wrote the check and we paid. FROM 7/4/2012 - Stopped here on our way up north. We were in a relaxed vacation mood but getting hungry. Right off Exit 7. Spacious, friendly staff, clean and pleasant atmosphere. Food typical diner with good menu selection. I had a PB&J on wheat with whole milk and potato chips and my beau had eggs, bacon, toast and home fries with juice and coffee. Everything was made well, reasonably priced and portioned just right. We arrived just before noon on the 4th of July and there was a steady flow of folks that the staff served promptly. Stopped there for breakfast on the recommendation of a friend who said this is where the locals eat. Wait for a table was a few minutes, was seated and waitress came over to ask about drinks. We ordered coffee which she brought and asked us what we wanted to order. Wife ordered blueberry pancakes and I ordered the Cape Neddick special, (2 eggs, 2 pancakes, bacon and home fries with drink). I think I was supposed to get a juice but I'm not sure and it was not delivered. We waited close to 25 minutes for this breakfast to be served. Our waitress came by once and topped off my coffee with the dregs in the pot she was carrying, (without my asking for more). She said she would be back with more fresh coffee and left me to wipe out the grounds from the bottom of the pot, didn't see her again until the food came. I must admit I was surprised, waiting this long I figured the food would be pretty good, what I got was tiny cubes of homefries, clearly frozen before and fried, two tiny pieces of bacon, 2 eggs over easy ( which was the way I asked for them) and two small dry pancakes. My wife's blueberry pancaked were a bit bigger but not really hot but lukewarm. None of this food was hot and moderately warm. I looked at my wife and said, let's eat and just get out of here. We finished and our waitress finally came by to ask about more coffee which we declined. To sum it up, the prices were ok but considering the quality of the food they should really give larger portions or get it out much quicker. I know it wasn't just us since the people around us also waited a long time for their meals as well. There are far too many other places within a 10 mile radius to bother going to this restaurant. Travel up from Georgia on my way to my brother's place in S Gardiner. We arrive every year on the Wednesday after Labor Day. One year I guess the restaurant decided to close on a Wednesday, and we had to eat nearby. We were truly disappointed. For us breakfast is important and makes all the difference in setting our mood for the day. Norma's is refreshing in atmosphere and food. The staff is terrific / prices reasonable / food is GREAT breakfast food. Really hope this pace stays open for a long time, for I will continue to stop for as long as it is. read more

Worst breakfast I've ever had, hands down. The quantites given at this place are laughable. I ordered the 2 eggs with bacon, 2 pancakes and home fries. The bacon was 1 slice cut up into pieces and there were about 10 small home fries on the plate. The pancakes were about silver dollar size. This is the worst value of any place I've ever eaten at, I had to go eat a 2nd breakfast somewhere else after. I feel like the positive reviews left about this place are probably fake, I can't imagine anyone enjoying getting ripped off. Stay clear of this place. read more

This place had a lot of great reviews so we figured we would give it a shot. We love to go out to breakfast back home. It was our only time we will visit Norma's. The eggs that we got the yolks were broken. They deep fry their bacon, sausage and home fries. I love home fries and these had no taste to them what so ever. Not an ounce of seasoning to them. We waited for a refill on our coffee while two bus girls sat a few feet away from us with the coffee pot inches from their hands. I guess they are not allowed to fill up coffee. We looked forward to coming here but it was disappointing. I will be searching around during our vacation for a new breakfast spot. read more
