A staple of breakfast in the Ogunquit area. Decent food, kinda cramped, busy place. Staff is fairly attentive but when it's busy they run around, nothing bad, just a fact of life at The Egg & I. Over-rated, tourist trap. This has been voted "best in the area"? I would hate to see the worst. Absolutely nothing special on the menu -who doesn't do blueberry pancakes?? Next thing you know they will be making a smiley-face on one with whipped cream ears, bacon mouth and m&m eyes. Granted, I haven't had breakfast at any of the other places in or around Wells, but I would put the service and quality of food on par with a good day at a Denny's or Shoney's (so, not great). Waited a long time for our greeting, drinks, food, and even longer to get a check. No, the food wasn't bad, but for the price the portions were disappointingly small and the items were just not creative. $10 for biscuits and gravy? Must be some godlike gravy. $8 for a single "Belgian" waffle that wasn't any bigger than the average free hotel breakfast waffle; with a spurt of whipped cream, pat of butter, and fake syrup. My friend ordered the steak breakfast and that was probably 4 ounces, for $14. I would definitely look elsewhere, like The Maine Diner, where they will at least take credit cards (welcome to 2016?). Bob's Bennedict.....gets a 2 star rating.........Sauce was not at all lemony....I have never had such a bland tasting sauce on my bennedict before.I hate to say this but the coffe was "not good at all" It was lacking a robust coffee flavor..I'm not sure what blend they use but its time to change it. I can drink 3-4 cups at a sitting when I am out but my wife and I only had 1 cup each. Waitstaff including hostesses where awesome !!! They where all friendly ! All and all the egg and I won't be a ""DO-Over""" again...........I like Condons doughnuts, and I believe the name "sunrise" breakfast restaurant across the street from Varano's And square toes in Kennebunk to be my favorite breakfast spots over and over.Im sorry Egg and I..........I wont be back !!! read more

The Egg and I isn't good.. It is fantastic! I was fortunate enough to visit in the off season. The Bob's Benny was fantastic, as was the Veggie Benny. Our neighbors raved about the blueberry pancakes which were covered with tons of blueberries. The coffee was very good as well. Service was very quick, and waitress was attentive to make sure we were doing ok, and offered us more coffee several times. read more

Just finished a great breakfast! The food and service was excellent. I enjoyed the "Breakfast Sampler" of 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and 2 French toast for under $9! I had no complaints about the food when I came to have breakfast here a couple of years ago. My omelet was cooked perfectly and the service was great despite a minor mix up of our order. The inside of this restaurant is kind of a hectic, bring your kid so they can scream their head off kind of place, which didn't thrill me but if that's okay with you check this place out. read more

My boyfriend and I ate here this past weekend on Saturday morning. We had to wait about 5 minutes to get a table which wasn't bad at all, I thought we would have to wait a lot longer. I ordered a Greek omelet which came with toast and hash browns. My boyfriend had two fried eggs and hash. It was good, not the best breakfast I have ever had, but it was still good. For the price, the portions were very large. I should have ordered one of their eggs benedicts, I will definitely get that next time I eat here. read more

Immediately seated as soon as we walked through the door (Tuesday 10 am in May) an asked if we wanted coffee. Hubby said coffee was best plain and without cream. I wanted something savory so I ordered an omelet with was stuffed with sausage, peppers, spinach and cheese. It was yummy and would have been terrific with salsa. Hubby ordered the 2 egg, 2 bacon, 2 sausage and 2 pancakes. For $1 more, he upgraded the pancakes to blueberry pancakes. Delicious! Fluffy! Filled with blueberries! Happy bellies afterwards. This place has a pretty good breakfast menu. The place was quite busy when we got there around 10 AM, we were seated quickly though. Our waiter seemed a little overwhelmed with our party of four adults, he forgot our juice and toast and had to be reminded, but was apologetic and brought those out to us right away. To be fair, it should be noted we had a baby with us and several special requests. The food was good, especially the banana pancakes. They have a selection off eggs benedict but none in the party tried those. The price for the food amount and quality is very good. Other than our very small juice and toast issue everything was as should be expected. I'd go there again in a heart beat. read more

Me and my girlfriend were there around 10 am on 6/18/15. We saw it driving by while looking for a place to eat breakfast and it just caught our eye since we like little diners. The coffee was very good and the raspberry amaretto french toast I ordered was very good and the breakfast sampler my gf ordered was very good as well. I did not like the bacon as I feel like it had no flavor. Our waitress also seemed like she was not in a good mood and didn't want to talk to us anymore then she had too. The pancakes are thick! I prefer thinner but they were ok. I ordered the Almond joy pancakes (a little over loaded and sickening) and my husband got the regular pancakes which were ok as well. The waitress was nice. Just ok. Also its a cash only place. read more

I highly suggest the Corned Beef Hash - there are two kids make sure you get the homemade one. Just remember that they only take cash.

Best breakfast around - hands down! They have an awesome selection, cozy atmosphere and of course the food - speaks for itself. They even have scratch made corned beef hash (which I am very picky about) that was to die for! This place is always crowded but they do a good job of moving people through. It is cash only so be prepared. I'd give the food a 3 and the staff a 5. Hash was good but the home fries were mushy. We decided to try the restaurant today after a number of people said how good it was. I am not a difficult person to please. The wait was short, the staff was very courteous but I probably had the worst omelete ever. I ordered one of those "create your own" with 3 indgredients; so I choose Spinach Feta and Bacon. I know its all about moving tables and making money but I sure would haved liked the person who cooked my meal to have to eat it. Most of the bacon in the ometle was RAW. Also, I think they used canned spinach. It was watery and had a horrible taste to it. I made it through about a 1/3 of my meal and gave up.. Not sure i will try the place again, but if I do, it will be with something very basic. Hopefully they wont screw it up. There are a lot better breakfast places in the area for the money they charged and you cant even use a debit card. When I travel, I prefer to use plastic and not walk around with a lot of cash. read more

Overall good food and friendly service. Banana nut pancakes were awesome....i think any of their pancakes would be good. My boyfriend got the steak and cheese omelet which was phenomenal.
