Incredibly disappointed with this company- had them out twice. Both times when they were supposed to be cleaning spider webs, they missed major areas. The salesman threw his technician under the bus. Sent a different technician the next time and same result. Talked with a manager who was unwilling to waive a charge even they they A) never completed a second cycle and B) never upheld their end of the contract. We just moved into our house and the door bell rang. A nice young man was selling EcoShield Pest Control services. He did the neighbor "name drop" and said that our neighbors have been clients of theirs for years. I was new to the subdivision and thought that maybe there were problems with pests and to be safe I would sign up for them to spray for spiders and silver fish etc. I literally thought it was for a one time spray. I didn't read until afterward (part my fault) that it was for an entire year of service. Which, I did tell him that there was a possibility of us moving in the next three months due to a promotion for my husband. If that was the case, they were going to consider our contract null and void if we showed evidence that we were moving. Every few months they would send someone out and on a few occasions I had to have someone come to our house for mud hornets getting into house through an exterior vent. They were ok- never fully got rid of them. When my year was up- I assumed we were done (guess I shouldn't have assumed that). I called to tell them that our year contract was up and apparently, that I called to late because they were already sending someone out to the house. They sent someone out to the house to do an exterior house check and supposedly they took care of "everything". I later get a bill for $125... which they did nothing because had they done their job they would have removed the hornets nest on our house facade (which is still sitting there). I refused to pay the bill because one, our year contract was up and two, they didn't do anything to the outside. I spoke to someone from their office and they said that I never called to cancel the contract and that in small print on the contract that I am supposed to call and cancel future service. There is NO small writing on the contract at all. I had friends check it over and they would agree. They tried to scare me by having someone from their legal department call me to tell me to pay. I think the way they treat their clients is crap and had they waived the $125 perhaps, just perhaps I would have not written this. I think their service sucks when it comes to them wanting their money and for looking out for the best interest of their customers. All they want is your money and are quite greedy. They will also tell you that they specifically work in this area and have trucks in the area daily which is not true. Most come from the Western suburbs and rescheduling an appointment means that it won't be later that day or week- perhaps a few weeks later. What happened to them being available for whenever??? Don't get caught up in their lies when they try to sell their services! Don't buy the "neighbor name drop". DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY! Please note: upon writing this review and after we paid the last $125 (months after) they send me to collections for an additional $30. Such crap! This company is a scam- if you are stuck with them- pay to get out of your contract early, it's not worth the hassle. If I could give this company 0 stars I would. I signed a 2 year contract upon someone soliciting my home (my mistake). I have a baby and I was having ants in my house who were biting my daughter as she was crawling around the house. I hired EcoShield who guaranteed me that they would resolve the issue. Unknowingly, I was contracting with them regardless of whether or not their products worked. After 1 year of service, I still had an ant problem and as matter of fact, my problem at become worse! After calling EcoSheild, they kept sending people out to my house for multiple service appointments with zero success. As if that wasn't bad enough, EcoShield would not let me cancel the contract unless I paid a $150 penalty! That's right! I had to pay them to stop coming to my house even when their products didn't work. What kind of world do they live in? After refusing to pay, a debt collector started calling me over $150!!!! I am FURIOUS! I just paid the $150 to move on, but I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ECOSHIELD TO ANYONE!!!!! STAYYYY AWAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Terribly company, terribly service, terribly customer service, and teethy contracts that will cost you dearly. Please be aware of this scam, there are several victims for this company door to door sign up process!! my wife enrolled in this service when the representative promised it can be cancelled anytime by calling or notifying the office!! we did notify the office that we are not interested in this service as it didn't yield results!!! then they charged huge cancellation charges quoting its not free of charge to cancel!! We've have had nothing but headaches since signing up with EcoShield. They essentially take your money, don't come out to service the property, and then refuse to cancel or refund you. Someone was supposed to come out in late June. We got a notification saying they serviced the outside of the property but that no one was home. I was home the whole day and no one came, rang the doorbell or knocked. I figured I'd give them another shot, so I called and rescheduled the service for Monday, July 11th. No show again. I called to cancel the account and was told that I signed up for an annual plan and that she was sorry and could reschedule another service. I told her I didn't want to reschedule and that I wanted to cancel (with no cancelation fee) and be refunded since it was negligent service on their part. She said she couldn't help me. When I asked to be transferred to a manager, she said she couldn't transfer me and that a manager would call me back. Now we wait. If this isn't handled appropriately and within a reasonable timeline, I'll be marking the charges on my card as fraudulent and reporting them to the BBB. I would give 0 stars if I could. BEWARE OF THEIR DOOR TO DOOR SALESMEN IN THE SUMMER!. So this company totally disregards "No Solicitor" signs in your yard, on your door, etc. I have 3 signs and they still knocked last summer. The salesmen told me that they would spray/treat on a one time basis for $75.00. I was in a hurry that day and he walked right up in my garage. I signed the paper on his word and he sprayed and that was that. 2 months later they came back and sprayed and charged me $135.00. I called to cancel whatever service they signed me up for and they said I had to pay some huge cancelation fee! The cancelation fee was more than 2 treatments so I just left it the way it was. The spray inside and out does not work! I had mice in my basement prior to, during, and after the initial spray, quarterly sprays, and "free" re sprays. They also provide an outside hole sealing service too which is free. They quoted me over $700 to patch some areas that they "thought" rodents were entering through. Terrible customer service and salesmen that totally disregard signs in your yard. You will be sorry if you sign up for this service!! read more

Ever since they serviced my home I haven't had any issues with ants, wasps, or spiders that were in my home. They even treated the yard and my kids play set. Paid $1000 for a treatment. Tried SEVERAL times to schedule a follow up for the treatment. Given times which I recieved confirmation for, but then when techs didn't show, was told the schedule times were wrong. Even after I recieved confirmation with the original times. Now I'm told that since they didn't tell me that my service time was expired, that now they won't do any follow ups & that's why the techs never showed. AND WE STILL HAVE THE BUGS THAT WERE NEVER KILLED IN THE 1ST PLACE. And now they straight refuse to take care of the bugs they were paid to get rid off. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY HIGH DOLLAR SERVICE. Once you pay them, they'll give you the run around to avoid giving you the free follow ups & bug checks. We have been using EcoSheild for years at two different addresses (we called them when we moved to establish service at the new home). The techs are always friendly and thorough. When we have random problems and it's not the time for quarterly service, a quick call to customer service gets a tech out within days to address the problem (garage mice, ew). This part of the problem they call you to say we are coming the day on February 5 yes you can re schedule but they would give you appointment in month and for my fourth visit they just showed up at 7:00 which afcoures I did not open the door. After that I had plenty and called to cancel a women on the phone said fine a manager would call and he did to tell me that I owe does basterdes 120 for the service which was not prefomremed. Close the door before the spiel begins if an eco shield salesman comes to your home. They are smooth talking and tell you all your neighbors are signing up. They tell you all the problems you're having with pests, even if you're not, overcharge for their services, and make you sign a long term agreement that has a significant cancellation penalty if you come to your senses (or find out what your spouse committed to while you were at work) and want to cancel. I'd they were legit they wouldn't send sales reps door to door to deceive and guilt you into signing a long term agreement. read more

BUYER BEWARE. I signed up for EcoShield in August. I was drawn in by the guarantee they would take care of spiders and mice. I was also assured that there was a satisfaction guarantee, and I could cancel if I wasn't happy with the service. The service involves an initial treatment and then another treatment in 4-6 weeks (something about an egg cycle), and then quarterly treatments after that. I was given a discount of $225 for signing up when I did, and then charged approx. $200 for each service. Any touch-up services in-between scheduled treatments would be free. Touch-up services were suggested for seeing a few bugs in-between quarterly treatments. We had the first two treatments, and I discovered a whole colony of ants (maybe termites?) in the yard shortly after signing up, so I had a "touch-up" service for the front yard that I wasn't charged for. Since we had a problem with mice last winter, that guarantee was one of the selling features of the service. Unfortunately, EcoShield's "treatment" for mice pretty much only consisted of plugging the outside holes. They didn't do anything to take care of any mice that might have still been in the house. When I had the tech check the attic access off my daughter's bedroom, he found mice droppings and suggested I place a trap. Good thing I'm paying $200/treatment. That wouldn't have occurred to me. It's now halfway through October, and there's no change in the number of spiders in the basement, and with the change in temperature, we had an infestation of box elder bugs. At least two dozen moved in and made themselves at home. Between the lackluster attention to mice and the continuation of the spider problem, this solidified my unhappiness with EcoShield's product, and I called to cancel. I was told that in order to cancel, I would need to pay back the initial $225 discount. When I brought up the satisfaction guarantee, I was told I would have to talk to a supervisor. When the supervisor eventually returned my call, she explained that a manager would need to come out and perform a touch-up for the box elder bugs. And if that didn't take care of the problem, they would send a team out for another treatment. And if that STILL didn't take care of the problem, they would send a team out for a THIRD treatment. If all that didn't work, they would let me cancel without paying the $225. I didn't ask, but I'm assuming there would be at least 1-2 weeks between each of those treatments. So we're talking 3-6 weeks before they would honor my lack of satisfaction. In addition, I would have the inconvenience of having to be home to let people in for three more treatments. I have several problems with this. First of all, if the product worked, the box elder bugs that DID make it into my house would be quickly dying. EcoShield makes a huge hairy deal about the bug barrier they place around the house, but that's not evident. Second, she said that the box elder infestation was most likely because we have a box elder tree. Apparently, paying a company $1000/year doesn't equal proactive, custom treatment of the critters I'm likely to see due to the change of seasons and the flora around my house. I expected that the service would be customized to my home. Apparently that's an unrealistic expectation. Third, the infestation IS a result of the change of seasons, which means that in 3-6 weeks, with absolutely no intervention on EcoShield's part, the infestation of box elder bugs will self-correct. The temperature change would be past, and EcoShield could say, "Look! We fixed it!" Finally, the satisfaction guarantee the salesman assured me of and the money-back guarantee given on the website are fraudulent claims. My satisfaction isn't what they're guaranteeing because I'm not satisfied. Unfortunately, I DID sign the paperwork without reading all the fine print. Although, I don't think I ever saw the "contract" I signed; I think I signed an iPad based on what the salesman told me. So, shame on me. I've learned an expensive lesson. I hope someone else can learn from my mistake. read more

Like the woman a few reviews below I have had a horrible time with their billing and customer service departments. They tried to charge me for 5 quarterly visits in a 12 month period. I pointed it out and even got my credit card company involved. They cancelled the charge on my credit card and then decided to come after me for the $145. I have been getting calls from their "customer service" department every few days for about the last two weeks. The first few times I explained the situation and they said they will credit the account and send it to billing. Now I see that nothing is changing. Every new call is just a different person asking for my "unpaid" balance of $145. It is like I am talking to myself. Today the person threatened to send my unpaid balance to a collection agency. So I'm now going to have to contact the Illinois Better Business Bureau and get a lawyer to defend myself. Take it from me, there are plenty of bug removal businesses that won't cause this kind of headache. Use one of them. read more

I wish there was a zero star rating. This company is a complete con. My doorbell was rung and I was a lucky resident that could get fit in for services. He happened to be in the area and needed to use up the supplies on his truck. Just ask Adam my neighbor (I don't know Adam). He could give us a deal for $149/year. The whole year. Cancel anytime. We could request special touch ups if needed too! Cut to 3 months later when they come by and leave an invoice for another $149. Called customer service to no avail. Only thing they can do is let us out of the contract for $200. Nothing they could do as they are at corporate office. I gave the name of the technician and even sent the signed contract that says $149 and services every 3 months. No where on there does it state "for additional fees". These people came to my house and solicited me. I said no repeatedly. They persisted. Even walked to my backyard. THEN 2 more technicians ring my bell while the first one is in the backyard. Then, after the follow up, I found out that they didn't remove any of the cobwebs. I took pictures and complained, they came right out and... We have had EcoShield coming to our house for probably 3 years. I love the technicians....they are always pleasant and courteous. A few times I needed them to reschedule for various reasons and they said that was no problem. I even cancelled a spraying during the winter when I didn't feel like it would accomplish much. It was not an issue with them. We had a nest of bees that got under the eaves of the house and built a nest in the ceiling of one of my bedrooms. I came home to a room with bees clamoring on the windows. I freaked out, called them, and they sent a technician over ASAP. He was very knowledable about bees and took care of the problem. No charge, I might add. We don't get the spiders and bugs in the house that we used to get and I can only attribute that to EcoShield. I like them!! Now they even spray for mosquitos! read more

We had 1-year Service Agreement with Eco Shield for pest control. Our growing spider cricket basement population was eradicated. However, efforts to deal with mice intrusion from nearby woodlands and spider webs on all windows and doorways went unabated after several complaints and empty promises by Technicians. Last straw was invoice for treatment of yard which even Tech said he didn't do as not wanting to harm shrubbery. After 1-year contract date we cancelled our service yet Eco Shield continues to fraudulently bill for services not provided. Customer Service is truly lacking for this company.
