My wife and I have been patrons of this establishment for over twenty years. East Cafe used to be our go to place for Chinese food. The place was always packed and you had to stand in line to get in. Lately, the customer quantity has diminished and that can be directly related yo the quality and taste of the food. We ate there tonight and unfortunately, we will mot be back. There was absolutely NO TASTE to anything we ate. The Combination fried rice we ordered had pork, chicken and shrimp in it and none of them had any taste. The egg drop soup was bland and tasteless. They put tomatoes in the soup, something that we have never seen come out of s Chinese kitchen. The place was pretty empty and it took about 15 minutes to even get a glass of water. Terrible service does not help the overall experience. Sad too say, the best tasting dish we had were the toothpicks on the way out the front door read more

Perhaps I went on an off day? The servers seemed pushy to turn the table my friend and I were sitting at even though we went during a slow time. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming and we left immediately after eating. We had the sesame chicken and broccoli and beef. I'm not a food critique by any means, but even I noticed that the chicken had a very strong vinegar taste and was dry. We had ordered both entrees with fried rice but received white rice. Not a big deal as I like both, but as I was still eating a server came up to our table and began boxing our meal. It was just very strange overall. One word, HORRIBLE. I came in and was seated by a lady that barley knew English, the server was ok but the atmosphere was off. All I could hear was yelling in the kitchen. So much for a peaceful lunch I have been coming here for about 5 years and still can't believe how much has changed. Strange encounter I tried to make a order over the phone and the guy answering kept asking me weird questions and telling me I should come by and order when I get there. Today I tried to make a reservation as there will be 10 of us planning to go there for dinner on a Friday evening. "We do not take reservations. You just have to come and wait." How terribly stupid. Plus when I asked wouldn't you rather know in advance to plan for a large group, she hung up on me. This is a nice Oriental restaurant with ok food. Guess they are not interested in good service. My boyfriend and I get takeout from here pretty much every weekend. We recently moved to Aurora, and we actually discovered East Cafe simply by watching all the locals flock there. I always order the chicken broccoli, and my boyfriend gets the Mongolian beef. The takeout lunches come with the entree, rice, and two appetizers (some days they have wings, rangoons, and mini egg rolls) plus they give you some of the best fortune cookies I've ever had. If you eat lunch inside the restaurant, they also include soup with your lunch! The lunch that I usually get is very filling, but it's also not that type of Chinese food that feels super greasy and heavy afterward. The seating is nice and the dining area is pretty spacious and clean. The interior is generally nicer than most Chinese places I've eaten at previously, although it's not super duper fancy like a really nice sushi or hibachi place. On weekends, lunch service is pretty busy, and the servers are stretched a little thin. Don't expect too much face time with your sever, but that being said, they won't leave you with an empty glass for too long. Overall, I love east cafe, and we think it's a great weekend takeout place. For two lunches, my boyfriend and I can usually get out of there for about $15 total. read more

This restaurant is just down the street from where I work so it is often our go to spot. I absolutely love Chinese food. This place has by far the best crab cheese wontons I have had anywhere. Their wonton soup is also unlike any other. It has beef ,chicken , wontons and shrimp! The portions are always very fitting to the price. The only thing that keeps me from giving them a five star is it seems over the past year the food seems to be more oily. The noodles are drenched with it! Also, stay away from the fortune cookies. I have been told if they aren't eaten they are put back into the bin. They are not wrapped. Better safe than sorry! Overall this is a great place for lunch or dinner. My family has been going here for years and years and it used to be the best chinese food around. Lately the food quality has been going downhill. Ordered takeout tonight and was extremely dissatisfied. We ordered three sesame chicken entrees and one lemon chicken entree and all were burnt to a crisp and dry. I've ordered pick up and delivery from here multiple times and have never had any complaints. They are one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area. When they deliver, they are usually pretty quick. When I've gotten pickup the food is always ready. I typically get the General Tsos chicken for myself and orange chicken for my son. I've been eating at this restaurant for over 20 years my grandparents started eating here my mother has always eaten here following myself. Over the past couple of years their customer service has taken a complete turn, accuracy at orders and quality of food. This has always been a go to Chinese restaurant that I've LOVED the food has always been easy to boast to people to try. But unfortunately the last few years have made it evident that I need to move on. I had picked up an order a couple of years ago in the snow to which I had gone home, open the stapled closed bag to discover that my sesame chicken was all dried out had no sauce on it (which in over 15yrs has always had a sauce) and I was missing eggrolls. When I called the East Café to complain about the dried out chicken and that they had forgotten to put my eggrolls in my order I had a five minute back-and-forth argument with the person on the phone as they insisted it did not come with a sauce. Now I'm not want to be rude but I've been eating their sesame chicken for over 15 years I think I know how it comes to the table. They made no effort to even acknowledge the issue with the chicken or make the issue correct and they're only resolution for the eggrolls was for me to go back out into the snow and pick up the eggrolls. That is ridiculous! That is not good customer service and I'm very disappointed on what the new ownership has done to this thriving, strong, amazing small business. If the old owners could see what you've done with their business they would be extremely disappointed. And now seeing all the other negative reviews I am not surprised. I ordered take out (lots of take out because family is visiting from out of town) and the quality of their food was awful. East is one of the better Chinese restaurants around town and especially in Aurora . We have visited this establishment many times and each time we have been satisfied. The service is always good , polite and engaging. We always have the tea and at least one of the Chicken dishes: kao punch or spicey chicken etc... The shrimp fried rice is fantastic and the egg rolls are just as one would expect them to be . The hot and spicey soup is one of my favourites and I would be happy to have no more than tea and soup at the East cafe . well worth a visit read more

My wife and I have been going to East Cafe since 1991, and have experienced good food quality for close to 30 years, especially their Hot and Sour Soup, except on our last visit on December 4, 2021 when their Hot and Sour Soup was nothing more than soup broth with no fill ingredients.... absolutely awful soup. I confronted the Manager with no resolution except for the comment.... you have to stir the soup to blend the ingredients together.... Bull, all we received was spicy soup broth.... probably won't return to East Café anytime soon. read more

They charged me $7 more than the menu price and the woman made sure to grab my receipt so I would not see that she was overcharging me. When I got home with my food my garlic chicken smelled like urine and there was hair in it. I would advise staying away as their food is inedible and they will try to rip you off. read more

I'm probably here once a month or so since it's literally blocks away from my office. They have a fantastic lunch service that is quick, efficient, and an incredible value for the money. If you go with at least one other person, order the family lunch (you get your own plate so it's not shared anyway) and soup/salad, your selection of appetizer, your choice of entree from the menu, and a drink are all included for about $7-8 a person! The food is very good and my personal favorite is the asparagus chicken (served with a black bean sauce). I mix it up sometimes with the Hurricane Beef, Curry Chicken, or Mongolian Beef but it's all pretty good. I remember seeing some "best of Aurora" awards up on their walls for past years, so agree that's it's unusual they haven't had more reviews. Well recommended. read more

This place was as awesome as it was in high school a few (lot of) years ago! As always, we went for the lunch special which came with soup and egg roll for appetizers, and then rice and a dish for the entree. Unlike most places, they have an extensive lunch special menu. I feel like at other places, it's just sweet and sour chicken and a few more other common Chinese dishes. Not at East Cafe! They have seafood, chicken, beef, and veggie sections on their lunch special. The food is consistently good. The restaurant always looks and feels clean. The service is also great. This is a solid, neighborhood Chinese restaurant for the family. The fact that they are still around after more than two decades and have seen kids from the local community grow up are testaments to how good and solid they are. read more

Ok. The food was pretty good. The servers were very friendly. The manager on the other hand... Here's what happened. We had a graduation party for one of the sisters in our Church. When the celebrant went up to pay, her niece went up to try to pay before her. The manager then told the niece that he won't taker her credit card because he didn't trust her credit (or something along those lines). Of course the niece got upset and started crying. Her mom saw that and asked the manager what he told her. This was when the manager became very defensive and started yelling at the mom. The mom went back to her table with the manager still yelling, walking towards our table. We were all shocked by his behavior and just let him cool off. Totally not classy. He embarrassed our whole group. My recommendation. If you have to have their food, and the manager is there, just order take out. I feel sorry for the servers that work there. read more

When you take New Yorkers out of NYC one of the first things they do is start searching for a good Chinese restaurant. So far we've found a few extremely bad ones, but East Cafe was highly recommended, so we figured we'd try it. While not up to par with NYC Chinese restaurants, the food was nonetheless delicious. The Hot & Sour Soup, though quite mild, was some of the most flavorful we've ever had and didn't require doctoring. The egg rolls, more like spring rolls, were very thin, crisp, but quite greasy. Of the 3 entrees we ordered, the standout was the Hurricane Combo - slightly spicy with beef & chicken (we opted out of the shrimp), broccoli, and mixed Chinese veggies in an unthickened brown sauce. The Mixed Wonton Platter too was delicious, with beef, chicken, shrimp, and mango in a thick, sweet, mildly spicy fruit sauce. A little too sweet for my taste. The sauce on the third dish, Mandarin Chicken ,tasted exactly like the Hurricane Combo sauce, with less spice and more sweet. I'd probably go back to try some of the other dishes, and give it another chance. Our waiter was personable, but not the best waiter. If you're craving Chinese food, and you've been let down by Denver's offerings, and you're not intrepid enough for Federal Blvd...this might just fit the bill. read more

The owners are very sweet and kind. I am from Asia and I know authentic food, and this was very close to my home cooking. The only downside is that the location is not great because I saw many other Asian cafes in the same area, so I bet it is competition. I did enjoy the meal, drinks, and my waitress. It feels like a real family environment, and I felt very cozy there. I ask my family to go from our home far away to this restaurant, and if I had a million dollars to spend there, I would. After our flight was cancelled due to a storm and being able to sleep only for 5 hrs, all I wanted was wanton soup and orange chicken with fried rice. So I searched the area and read really good comments about this Chinese restaurant. However, I was not impressed by their food. I've never had wanton soup with all kinds of meats including shrimp and mushrooms. It tasted very weird to me and it was almost $7 the small bowl. Then I probably got 5-6 pieces of orange chicken and a small portion of fried rice. I placed an order to go so I wanna believe dishes are bigger when you eat at the restaurant. East Cafe has been around for at least 20 years and it has not changed except for the new chairs and no smoking. Same great food & great prices. It's a local Chinese dive - the ambiance is not spectacular and they don't have a bar but you can get a satisfying lunch for less than $7 and dinner for less than $10. I always get the sesame shrimp although I recently tried the Chicken wrap (also comes in beef or combo). It comes with a neat table side presentation and tastes great. It's like a Chinese burrito with no beans of course. I LOVE this place and hope they don't change it for another 20 years. I have them on speed dial and you can pick up take out in about 12 minutes. However, based on my experience last night, I have to agree with the other reviewers who stated that the quality has really slipped. Let me be clear. My expectations are in line for a restaurant that charges on average $9 for a dinner entree. I'm not holding it up to unreasonable standards. My Hurricane Chicken was extremely bland and flavorless. My mom's sweet and sour shrimp was gummy and oversauced. I was also annoyed to find pork dumplings on my plate when I'd specifically ordered veggie. Sigh. The portions are nice for the price. I'm also glad they added brown rice as an option. I think I'm going to give East Cafe a rest for a good long while...too many other options out there. read more

Tried this place on Wednesday and there was no wait. Server was very attentive and polite. They serve hot tea along with water at no charge. Got the medium hot and sour soup and it was very, very large. It comes in a big bowl and server poured it in two smaller bowls for us (very nice). Nothing unique about the soup other than it had shrimp in it, so that was nice. We took the Yelp advice and got the Hurricane Chicken and Hurricane Combo. The food is good, large-ish portions. Pretty greasy but it was delicious. The server boxed and bagged everything for us and that was also very nice! We will have the soup and our entrees for lunch and possibly dinner tomorrow, too. We came here for lunch. We were seated promptly and out waitress was great! We got a spring roll and a chicken wing. The spring rolls were some of the best I have had in a while. The chicken wing was just eh. I ordered the sesame chicken with white rice, my friend ordered the Mongolian beef with brown rice and we shared the chicken lo mein with fried rice. My friend enjoyed his food, a lot. He also liked the lo mein, which was impressive since his idea of good Chinese is typically Panda Express. I loved my food. The sesame sauce was great! The lo mein was also excellent. We also got tea. I'm guessing it's complimentary? We didn't pay for it or ask for it, but it was yummy! I must have drank 10 of those little cups.
