E.M. Bop is amazing value for the price at $30 per person. I've been to several different KBBQ places throughout the U.S. and I can honestly say that this place has the best service for AYCE. They were on top of it with the grill changes and made sure we never had a grill that was burnt. In our one hour of dining, they probably changed our grill over 5 times (crazy!). It's obvious that they're attentive to what's going on without being overbearing. You're supposed to self-service and cook the meat yourself, but we found that the servers would come around quite often and cook for us. They always remembered our order correctly and never forgot about anything we asked for which is impressive considering how busy it was. The AYCE menu was extensive and encompassed a variety of different meats (chicken, squid, beef, pork, etc.). The meat quality was pretty good too, especially considering the price we paid. read more

This is my go-to spot for KBBQ. The price to meat/side selection ratio is undefeated. Some major pluses are the built-in vents that help the smoke from destroying you while you eat & this often the grills are changed (basically with every meat). -1 just because the service experience can be pretty inconsistent depending on who is helping you. They also don't seem to have a fixed server zone so everyone is kind of everywhere & you have to really try to flag someone down when it gets busy (which is challenging if you're put in one of the side rooms).. the service call button used to help but it seems like they've removed those. I wish it was possible to customize the spice level of the tteokbokki - it's on the mild side and very cheesy. Their menu says that it's self grilling and they even give you timing recommendations based on the meat but when we can (probably because it was a weekday), they grilled everything for us. Lots of meat options including marinated and unmarinated. Unique items that aren't typically found at other places are the beef tartare, banquet noodles (Jan chi noodles). The beef tartare comes in a small serving size and has a sweet taste to it. Enjoyed it! The banquet noodles is kimchi heavy but it was nice. Food: - banchan: while the side dishes weren't amazing they made up for it with their other food items - sauce: cilantro type dip, soy sauce based dip, soy bean paste dip, salt and sesame oil - non meat AYCE: corn cheese (comes in a small serving size which I liked), soybean paste soup (one of the best I've had), steamed egg (done the right way with no weird toppings) - meat: lots of marinated pork belly flavors, unique one was the cilantro. Had an herby taste that cut the gamey taste of pork. All of the pork belly dishes had a very hard ish thick layer which was unusual, would recommend the thin pork belly. Date of Visit 01-18-204 First, I have to say that I tried to eat there a couple weeks ago as a solo dinner for their AYCE lunch. They did turn me down and said AYVE required two people minimum. I offered to pay for 2 AYCE even if I was by myself, but they still said no. Which made no sense as they would have made more money that way (since I can't eat as much as 2 people, well my wife would argue that but you get the point). That policy made no sense, but I still wanted to try their AYCE, so I came back with my mother-in-law to have lunch there. As a reminder if you do not follow my reviews, I classify Korean BBQ AYCE into 3 categories, Premium, regular and "Dirty Korean" (cheap, lower/average quality meat, hit the spot but you better have a bathroom nearby) This place would be in the regular category (but border line "dirty Korean" ATMOSPHERE/DECO Nice and clean, but fairly small, I can see this place having some wait time in peak hours/days. Booth seating was comfortable for 2 but could get a little crowded for 4. SERVICE Waitresses were nice, not very talkative but attentive. They cooked most of our food (and did overcook the brisket) but the AYCE was supposed to be self-grilling, so not complaining about the extra help. They did not refill any of the Banchans but checked on us fairly often. All the meats came out fast and we did not have to wait. Please note that the soft drinks are served as plastic bottles, so you do not get free refills. PRICE Not complains there, the main AYCE lunch is 24.99 but if you want the short ribs options, you need to upgrade to the dinner AYCE which is 29.99. Lot of food for the money! FOOD This is where this review is going to take a downturn. The food was very very average at best, here are the details: You get a handful of Banchan , most are ok. None are great. But we didn't get any refills. We started with the brisket; it was average but ended up being a bit overcooked as well. We then had the spicy pork belly and that was just plain bad, it was not spicy at all and was very chewy, one of the worse pork belly I had in a long time. Next was the EM Bop short rib cuts, and while the meat was tender, it had zero flavor, even using the sauces on it barely gave it any taste at all. The fresh shrimp came after and that was the worse of the lunch along with the spicy pork belly. The shrimps were so bland and super hard to peel. Next, we decided to get more short ribs but got the seasoned one and those were good, nothing spectacular but good. Beef Bulgogi was good as well and we finished with the star of the day, honestly probably the only meat that was worth the money. Drum rolls ...... the winner was the marinated pork steak. Moist, tender and finally a meat with a lot of flavors. If you do end up at E.M Bop, make sure to get it, you won't regret that. By the way the egg soufflé was good but the corn cheese was another item with no flavors. MISCELLEANOUS Food came with 4 sauces, salt and sesame oil, red bean paste, a mystery sauce (not sure what it was and had little flavor anyhow) and a green sauce that was like a creamy chimichurri. Also to note that this restaurant uses charcoal which is a nice touch In conclusion, even if the price is decent, most of the food options sadly lack flavors and there are way better options in the area for AYCE Korean BBQ around the same price point. My first KBBQ in like a year. I did have it during the pandemic (I guess we're still in it still though). E.M. Bop has been here since 2019, and right before the pandemic before everything shut down. I do like that they have charcoal here, but the difference here compared to our go to (678), is that the vents are like Breakers where you're not choking on smoke from the coals. That's not a bad thing in my book. Let's get to the menu and your options. You can either order a platter of assorted meats, or you can do an AYCE. There's 2 menus for AYCE, one's that's priced at 24.99 and one that's 29.99. We chose the more expensive one, I believe was menu A. With this menu, you get a lot more options from Brisket to Jumulok there's a lot of options that you can choose from. Price point wise, it's probably just wiser to choose the AYCE, as it's going to be cheaper than the set menus. If you don't want KBBQ, then you always have the option of getting more traditional Korean dishes which I thought was pretty nice. From what I saw on another table, it looked tasty! However, back to the KBBQ. I liked that the servers were very attentive. I thought that we were the ones that would be grilling the meats, however it seems like everyone was eager to help cook everything and just kept us constantly eating. I would have to say that I particularly enjoy them asking slowly rather than in a hurried manner. There was a bit of lag time in between cooking and then getting the next order so I never felt rushed when eating the meat. Overall, E.M. Bop is a solid spot! I think I will definitely be coming back. One downside, the AC needs to be worked on because it gets super hot. Updating review to reflect on my most recent experience. Will not be returning. We brought a group of friends with us this time. There were seven of us. They gave us a new waiter who was still training. He did not know the menu. We did not receive all the sauces even when asked he had no idea. Constantly had to ask for water and sides. We cleaned our dishes and had to put them on the table next to us to make room because they were not being removed. But that's not even the bad part of our experience. Pretty much when we got there we waited at least 15-20 minutes just for sides and put in our first protein order. Practically the whole time we were there our grill was barely warm. It was not cooking like it should and we told them about it multiple times. They came and changed the coals twice. You could see the coals were pretty much dead before they even replaced them. Finally the last one had decent coals and we were able to eat what we came for and not just sides. As we got to ordering more protein we were told we were being shut off because there's a time limit of 2 hrs. TF I counted and we were only able to get FIVE orders of protein for SEVEN people in 2HOURS because the grill wasn't cooking. It wasn't like management didn't know and we honestly feel like it was a tactic so we wouldn't be able to order much protein. No one was really trying to help our table and it seem like everyone was avoiding our table especially after they cut us off. Then the audacity to auto charge 20% gratuity! I've always been a considerate tipper but 20% for sht service and leaving hungry from an AYCE? Obviously a little upset about our experience and definitely will not be returning or recommending. I have been here a handful of times, but this time was not so great. I came with a party of 5 around 11pm/12 am, and 4 people got AYCE KBBQ and I ordered the Mul-naengmyeon and short rib combo off the regular dinner menu. I do appreciate that they open late and allow you to do a mix of AYCE and regular menu. Many places state that if someone at the table does AYCE, the rest of the table must do it too. The main issue I had this night, was that the staff were just not coming to our table. They came maybe once or twice when we initially ordered, but then seemed to forget about us after that. Many things we ordered were never brought to the table. Even after our entire meal, no one brought us any water. I know things can get hectic, and people forget, but we reordered with many different waiters/waitresses and still never got what we asked for. The only thing they remembered to bring was the meat. EM Bop is solid. Good service, generous banchan, and good quality of protein. We usually get one of the AYCE options. They are currently running a special on both AYCE options. They no longer offer Kalbi on the higher priced AYCE but it's stacked with a lot of different options. The jigae that comes with the AYCE options is good and not watered down. Their cold and spicy noodles are good! Those you do have to order a la cart. It may still come with some of the combos. I do like how this restaurant offers dishes/soups outside of AYCE or combo meals. I also like how this location has a some more originate dining spaces. I assumed the noodles were similar to 678 noodles that you get at the end of a combo meal, but it is completely different. I don't remember the broth being hot, and the noodles were bloated. Good thing we only got one portion instead of two (one for each of us). You should skip the fried dumplings. Meat tastes good. I prefer kbbq spots that use charcoal, so that was a win. And they put a good amount BRISKET in the tofu soup, not just little niblets of beef like other tofu soup restaurants. FYI you will get service fee applied for parties 2+ Regardless, still probably my favorite kbbq at the moment. The only place where you can get yukhae, or Korean beef tartare. Open late, this place is great for small dates or big birthday party gatherings. Reservations and wait list is really well done here, they actually pick up the phone if you want to call in advance, and the wait list is super pain free. Go inside, sign the kiosk, and you'll get a call when it's ready. Banchan or the side dishes are alright, they pretty much have the basics like kimchi, pickled pear, mac salad, but are missing favorites like spicy fish cake or marinated potato. Their sauces might be my favorite, most notably the green chimmichurri sauce. It's bright, a little acidic, and has a great creamy taste, I always ask for extra. Also appreciate they already have sesame oil salt sauce already, always an OG flavor. Their brisket is decent, I do like their flavored pork belly though. There is a parking lot out front that is free, but parking can be tricky and full. Coming on a Saturday night, we had to wait around 40 minutes, but to be expected with any place. Service was great and attentive here and we got meats so quickly and never had to ask twice. Servers here are really the best servers and never lingered too long or hovering. All the meats we received were delicious. My favorites: seasoned short rib cuts, miso pork belly, thin sliced brisket, and spicy squid. Tip is automatically added so keep that in mind. I am a glutton for protein so when you mention ayce I am instantly intrigued. This review will be outlining the accumulation of my 3-4 visits with various parties. I usually come here with a party no more than 4 people because becomes a bit chaotic feeding frenzy. Inside ambiance is stimulating with its music videos projected into the walls with various music playing in the background. With the bustling staff running around and consistent dining crowd - overall it may be louder than your average place. The high ceilings and simple decor helps with not feeling cramped with the sheer amount of people inside. There are some private dining sections that have its own walls and soft door for the larger tables. Food is consistently marinated and flavored. I really enjoy the entire protein selection but the side items are nice additions. The fried dumplings are super crispy and generously filled. The E.M bop noodle is not too spicy but definitely creates a flavor and texture Bridge between your proteins and the rice/lettuce wrap. It really reminds me of a Vietnamese Bun Bo Hue. I love the various selections of pork belly offered here because usually I don't have this much options at other places! Service is the only questionable aspect of E.M Bop. There will (or not) be many staff who come by and tend to your grill. What I have noticed is that they all vary in regards to meat cooking time. I find myself more often than not end up being the one who cooks entirely because the staff ends stops coming to check on my table. The occasional server comes by to asks if I would want additional items ordered, but it sometimes doesn't matter when they forget to submit / pick up the order for the next 15 minutes. I have confirmed this by their confused/shocked response when inquired about the status. You are charged an automatic 20% gratuity so I am assuming that is for grilling service? Grill changes come frequently to prevent burnt cooking/fires which is deeply appreciated! There was one time that I dined here that the staff would knowingly let outside patrons to come inside and visit each table to sell random fruits/goods. They have so many sides to choose from, cheese corn, glass noodles, pasta salad, house salad, egg, dumplings, etc. It cost about $29.99 per person and they leave a 20% gratuity if you are doing the all you can eat so about $36 pp after tip and taxes. I can say though I tip a little more because the service is so fast and quickly. The servers are also friendly and suggested other meat that may be as good. The service has been fantastic both times I've gone. The servers know what you want without having to ask and they won't forget your table. The meat is refilled constantly and they keep changing the grill. Couldn't get any better!!! The only downside is that there's typically a pretty long wait. Came here with two friends after flying in for a wedding and did not have much Asian if not Korean food where they lived in Ohio. KBbbq is the way to go! Found EM Bop by a fluke shot actually when I went next door to grab takeout one time last year. We decided to get the dinner AYCE option as for $5 more we could add seafood to the mix. As this was AYCE, its going to be a general review with some outstanding highlights. PROS: - good/fair assortment of side dishes (banchan) - great add ons that are unlimited : egg souffle, house salad, rice wrappers, corn cheese. We definitely got corn cheese and the house salad a number of times. - huge assortment of meats -- keep in mind, they do charge for whatever is not finished which is great as it prevents food waste. - seafood portion is good: we got the garlic shrimp and omg is it good. Grilled garlic shrimp cannot be beat. - meat selection also great, both marinated and unmarinated cuts. CONS: - not really a con but they do limit you to 90min - also not a con but there is a 20% gratuity that is automatically added. Unless you want to be super generous and double tip! - the side dish portions are on the smaller end but you can always ask for more so I don't see it as a problem! Staff was GREAT. I wouldn't have minded a small double tip because their recommendations were spot on. They also helped us grill our meats even though AYCe is self-grill. It opened about a year ago, August 2019, in Pleasant Hill Station, the strip with Vincent Bakery and What the Pho near the Duluth H Mart. While I think E. M. Bop is one of the best, if not *the* best, Korean restaurants in Alpharetta (where the original location is), I can't say the same for this location for the obvious reason: there's a lot of competition for Korean food in Gwinnett. When the original E. M. Bop opened in 2016, it didn't offer Korean BBQ, at least not cooked on grills at the table. I suspect that's one reason why E. M. Bop has a more comprehensive menu than other Korean BBQ restaurants; they didn't start out as a Korean BBQ restaurant. During our visit to this location, the restaurant still looked new. You can tell it's cut in the customary Korean family-style restaurant mold, but it's like the next generation. Simply put, it's got a contemporary flair to it. Typical of Korean restaurants, tables in the main dining room are separated with partitions. There are semi-private rooms for bigger groups. E. M. Bop is relatively spacious and it looks like it would be a good spot for events like birthday parties. While we were there, a projector displayed K-pop music videos on the wall in the big room. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to order takeout instead of dining in. Like most Korean restaurants in Duluth, E. M. Bop doesn't have a patio. Lunch and dinner menus are available on the restaurant's website at http://embop.com/. When I called in my order, prices on the website differed slightly from what I was told on the phone (about $1-2 per dish). Staple items included Korean pancakes (multiple varieties, about $10-14 each), Korean fried chicken ($9), bibimbap (mixed rice, $13-14), noodles ($11-13), and traditional soups and stews ($12-15). The BBQ menu appeared to be fairly typical, featuring mostly beef and pork options ($17-36 per type, a la carte) plus some chicken and seafood. They had four set meat combos ($80-190 per combo) and three unlimited all-you-can-eat (AYCE) options as well ($26, $29, or $34 per person). Here's what we got: * A3. Korean Style Kimchi Pancake ($9.99) * B1. Bulgogi Bibimbap ($9.99) - traditional Korean marinated beef served with corn, carrots, spinach, bean sprouts, bracken (fern), mushrooms, and a sunny-side-up egg * N3. Hamhung Cold Naengmyeon ($12.99) - noodles with cold beef broth, beef brisket, and vegetables * N4. Hamhung Bibim Naengmyeon ($12.99) - noodles with spicy sauce, beef brisket, and vegetables (also with cold broth) Overall, the food was good. We liked everything. Each dish was packed thoughtfully and presented beautifully; just take a look at my pictures. They included banchan (side dishes) which consisted of kimchi, spicy vinegared cucumber (thick slices), savory fish cake with sliced bell peppers, and julienned potato with green pepper and pork sausage. Yum. The Kimchi Pancake was delicious. It was nice and deep red-orange in color. Generous portions. Hot off the grill with some burn marks too. The pancake was served with a delectable soy-and-vinegar-based dipping sauce. Very tasty. The Bulgogi Bibimbap was filling and satisfying. This is a Korean comfort food that's hard to go wrong with and really hits the spot. The meat quality was A-OK. I would've preferred the beef to be a bit juicier and more flavorful, but generally speaking, this was a fine bibimbap with a nice variety of fresh and colorful ingredients. I especially liked amount of crunchy, yummy bracken provided. We love Naengmyeon, especially in the summertime, and E. M. Bop made decent, though not our favorite, versions. These noodles were prepared Hamhung-style and came with thin, white noodles (mixed with potato starch, I think) instead of the menu-described, darker, chewier, and thicker buckwheat noodles. The noodles are different in terms of taste and texture. I prefer the darker, chewier noodles. Aside from that, take-home E. M. Bop's take-home naengmyeon worked out well. Good ingredient quality and the addicting broths and sauces were served separately. Not mentioned on the menu, each bowl came with half a hard-boiled egg and sliced cucumber and Korean radish. Service was fantastic. The staff who served us were older Korean ladies. We arrived about 30 minutes after placing our order and it was packed and ready to go. I paid in person. The lady who served us inside the restaurant was about to check my temperature with a temperature gun until I told her we weren't there to dine-in, but to pick up. The "E.
