Dyer's is as much a part of Memphis as Graceland or the Orpheum. I'm not gonna google the history, but they started out a long time ago. I think on Cleveland. I miss the one in Bartlett, but we have Asian Star now and they're cool. What makes Dyer's cool is that they cook this in an iron skillet in the beef fat which has never been replaced since day 1. They just strain it and keep adding to it. Maybe that's kinda gross, but it's good. It does have a unique flavor and it's got that little bit of crunch and lots of grease. The patties are small. I think 3 ounce, so you'll need a triple to get a half pound. I ordered a double and wanted a bit more. It's not an impressive burger by any means and it will not make a spot in my top ten favorite burger joints, but for that once in a while fast food burger with grease and Memphis history, you cannot beat it. P.S. The onion rings were home made and they were great. I was also happy with the price. Thanks Mark. This place looks like a diner straight out of Andy Griffith or some other black and white TV show - pure 50's and 60's based. Me and my family really enjoyed the food. The Fries are too salty on the top but no salt below, The burger was very good. read more

The docs bacon burger is delicious. I highly recommend and will be back for another. The fries I received were very bland and didn't have much taste to them. Also tried the strawberry milkshake but the chocolate sundae my wife and son shared was much better. Not a lot of seating so tough if you have a large party. read more

on my last trip to Dyer's, and I do mean my last trip, the cheeseburger was good although I can get something comparable in Germantown or Memphis. Whataburger is very good as are Huey's. But I was told the onion rings were the best at Dyer's so I was really looking forward to some. I was amazed at what I was served! Half of them were freshly cooked and delicious. Took a friend from out of town for lunch today. Four of us squeezed into a small spot- Seevice was prompt and wait for freshly cooked to order Patty Melts, Burgers, Fries and Onion Rings was minimal. The Patty Melts were perfect- patties were hot and juicy, bread was toasted and crunchy- one was ordered with mayo and they got it just right. Fries and onion rings delish! Hot and crispy- Diablo burger was eaten quickly and our friend loved his Burger and said the Pepper Jack cheese made is awesome!!! My wife and I went here last night and all I can say is never again. We went on the recommendation of friends who told us they had really good catfish. The high point is f the visit was the food was good but not as good as we had been told it was and definitely not worth the price they were charging for it and the service was slow despite there not being many people in the restaurant. But these are not the reasons I say never again. First there is the cleanliness. Since the service was slow that gave us time to take notice of the dust caked pictures on the walls. As the evening went on I noticed that the servers were bussing tables and then running orders without washing their hands. Then as we were about to leave I noticed that as some of the servers were bussing the tables they were placing the food baskets on the clean ones in the kitchen rather than washing them first. read more

This location is great, you can walk around the town square of Collierville (such a cute town!) and then stop for a bite and chat with the friendly waitstaff while your burger is cooking. I love the Dyer's burger. Double-double with everything minus tomato. Yum. A finalist for last meal on Earth. Today's was also delish...just a little chillier than normal. Here's why... Today, the kitchen just wasn't in synch. We called for take out. They made the order for dine-in. Tick-tock. They remedied it and got it packed. They even went so far as to tell me which burger was in the top box and which was in the bottom. Nice touch. An order that was supposed to be ready in 10 minutes took 25. I don't want to see this place get a bad rap, 'cuz I love it so much. But c'mon man. Get it together. So, three stars today. This is the perfect spot for Dyer's! While it would be a bit cramped I am sure during certain hours, I love the quaint little dining area. The server voiced that she was overwhelmed, even though she only had 3 or 4 tables. Still our drinks and food arrived promptly. I ordered the chili cheese split hot dog and fries. 4 hot dogs and chili and I ate all but two bites!!! It was such a guilty pleasure. I mean who even knows what is in any given hot dog? Let me start by saying that we really wanted to like this place. We were seated immediately on a Thursday just after noon. Our server was friendly and attentive, and after receiving our drinks we settled on a basket of onion rings, a burger with cheese, a veggie burger with cheese, mushrooms and onions and a chocolate shake. At least a half hour went by, during which we saw others who had come in after us being served their orders. Our waitress brought drink refills and explained that there was only one cook, and the veggie burger takes longer because it is frozen. When we finally received our order, the onion rings were dry and overcooked. My husband's burger had no seasoning, and the cheese was barely melted. Both buns served to us were cold and untoasted, clearly pulled right from their package. When I removed the bun to examine my veggie burger, all I could find was a pile of onions and mushrooms. After more searching, I finally determined that the veggie burger had disintegrated into what I can only describe as paste form. In all my years of ordering veggie burgers, I've never seen anything like this happen. Completely unappetizing. At this point we decided to leave. Our server, while apologetic, removed only the veggie burger and the milkshake (which we had not yet received) from our check. No way we'll return. read more

Great little burger spot in the square. And where else can you get a pro MMA fighter as your waiter? Love the onion rings because they put plenty of pepper in the batter and they are always fried to crispy perfection. Dipping them in some homemade ranch is what I recommend. My favorite burger is the Southwest. Double patty on a soft bun, pepper jack cheese, jalapeño and mild green chiles. Yeah, I like it spicy and this doesn't disappoint at all. I have never been able to finish a whole one but I keep trying. With the original brick walls and tin ceiling, they have kept the vintage old square feel. I have only been to this location once, and probably will not return again. I have eaten at the downtown location many time and have always been impressed. I called in my order here an hour before I needed it because I did not have time to wait for it. Well, I get there and they hadn't even started on it. So I had to wait anyway. What's the point of calling in an order for a certain time if you aren't going to have it made? The burger wasn't very good and the fries were OK. Also, I got a glimpse of the ice cream cones they use for their ice cream. They were off- brand cake cones from the store. Not only that, but they were open and probably getting stale. read more

Sunday evening we took our girls (2&3) for an ice cream cone. The second we opened the door at 8 pm the girl behind the counter yelled and asked if we were dining in. For those that don't know about Dyers on the square, try them out! The delicious, fun, old timey hamburger joint is a Collierville gem. This is one of my kids favorites. The food is so good and sooo reasonable compared to other places. Way fun atmosphere inside and they have rare outdoor seating! This is the type of restaurant your kids will remember eating at when they grow up. The staff is so friendly and sweet. The owners are great people that are local, have kids in schools here and give back to our community. Everything is delicious old southern classics on the menu. The fried pickles are the best in Memphis! I love the tamales (pictured without onions and jalapenos). Seriously everything on this menu is amazing rock your socks good! The burger is my favorite though. Childhood memories flood me just walking in this place. This is a must visit when you have friends in town. The location on the square is just perfect and fits the stepping back in time mood this place gives you. My kids love to sip floats and milkshakes at the bar seating outside while people watching the square. A nice choice for lunch or dinner if you are visiting Collierville town square. Their specialties are burgers, fries, and milkshakes. However there are other lighter options. For instance my wife and I order grilled chicken salads with extra chicken, and we added bacon and jalapeños. It was really good. We had the fried pickles as an appetizer and they were outstanding as well. However, they were very greasy so we did feel a little guilty, but not guilty enough to keep us from cleaning our plate. It seems like every time I go to Dyer's Cafe I'm impressed by one thing, and not impressed by another. The last time we went I had a great burger, but the wings my companion ordered came out with some sort of dipping sauce that was totally unidentifiable. Was it ranch? Was it blu-cheese? It was just white and bland. Burger, fries, and shakes are reliably good, so I'd say stick to those items. Venturing into the rest of the menu seems to be a bit like rolling the dice. read more

It has been said that I enjoy the finer things in life. This is true. That being said, I would also point out that a burger fried in super old grease can also be one of those finer things, if done properly. Dyer's does it properly. We started out with some of the best fried pickles I have ever had in my life. Truly, I get these things wherever I go but Dyer's hit a home run with the breading, perfect seasoning, and a glorious ranch for dipping. My friends both got bacon cheeseburgers, with which they were very pleased. I was, however, determined to be in 'review mode' and try out the Filthy Diablo, which I have not had in over a decade... It was amazing, but too much. Way too much. Meat, cheese, smoked sausage, meat, cheese, smoked sausage, meat, cheese... I am not exaggerating! This thing is so big and juicy and delicious that while you may not defeat it, you will at least feel good about the experience. I managed to finish the filthy diablo, although I did eat the last smoked sausage portion separately. Since I feel like this review is all over the place, allow me to summarize: perfect fried pickles, juicy and succulent burger, melty cheese, snappy and savory sausage, excellent sweet tea. In short, a superb experience. Why, then, is this not a five star review? The service was pretty bad. It was worth it, though. read more
