Modern coffee shop right off Storke and Hollister that serves a BOMB cup of joe. This tends to be a big spot for UCSB students to study (I mean, that's why I was there) which can often mean there is limited seating. This isn't necessarily bad though, because they really could jam the place with tables/chairs but they don't which helps keep the environment relaxing. There is also outdoor seating as well. There are a variety of different pastries and foods you can order to supplement your caffeine habit, though the coffee is the real star here. I am massive fan of Dune roasters and I have never been disappointed by my drinks here. Though there are many different locations of the French Press in the SB/Goleta area, I prefer this one because of its proximity to campus and it's open, FREE parking. read more

Love this place! I come here every weekend I'm in town for cold brew, oat milk, vegan baked goods and delicious bagels. I never stay and sit, but there's a spacious seating area. If I were still a student, I would study here. Nice people, quick service and delicious coffee. I would definitely recommend for your goleta coffee! read more

I originally only came here for a kouign-amann but they were fresh out of them at 10 am! Gosh darnit!! But the vibe was so friendly and chill that I decided to stay and try a matcha latte and a blueberry lemon scone. I'm so glad I did because French Press is now one of my favorite cafes in the area. Their matcha latte was smooth and creamy, with a good balance of sweet and bitter. The flaky scone was tasty and fresh. There weren't that many seats but it seemed like a good place for catching up with friends, studying, or working (free wifi and lots of outlets!). The staff is what makes this place a 5-star though. They're some of the warmest and most genuine people in customer service I've ever met. I don't know where they find these people, but they're awesome and fun to talk to. read more

The French Press is a welcome addition to Goleta. It's quite possibly the best coffee in all of Santa Barbara but now certainly is the best coffee in this part of Goleta. (Sorry Starbucks, Zizzo's, McDonalds) I am hooked on that Vanilla Latte. It takes them a little longer than other coffee shops to make the drink, but only by a minute or so. Totally worth it, you can't rush greatness! The interior is beautiful and would be a good place to get some work done as long as you bring a fully charged device. The only problem I have is there are no outlets. This is seriously a major flaw with the location. read more

This is my favorite coffee spot in Goleta/all of Santa Barbara. I go multiple times per week and am never disappointed. The coffee is consistently good, something that I feel many coffee shops fall short on. I personally enjoy the Zip Zinger espresso. They also rotate in some single origins but the Zip is perfect for an Americano. Their house coffee, always offered on drip, is a bit fruity and also very consistent. For those who do not enjoy coffee, they have a nice selection of teas and make very smooth chai lattes/hot coco. If you enjoy pastries but are not into the super-sugary standard pastries you can get anywhere in America, then this is the place for you! I personally enjoy the almond croissant and the bacon-cheddar-chive biscuit. Although get there early on the weekends--they often run out by midday! Finally, I keep coming back to this place because the employees are so friendly. They make it their goal to know your name and make you feel like a regular. I have been to few places that offer their level of customer service. I see many complaints about the lack of outlets. But honestly, I could care less because everything else about this place is exceptional. read more

My favorite of the 3 French Press locations (it's also the closest to me) and maybe my favorite coffee shop around Santa Barbara. I almost strictly drink lattes (straight up). The French Press' ability to make a good latte/espresso is wayyyy more important than having outlets to plug in computers (for me). With that said, I think this is the only place I've had a fruity espresso (some baristas make it weaker than others though). Most espressos tend to be more nutty/earthy in a latte, but that uniquely fruity zip zinger keeps me coming back. They also happen to have the 3rd best barista in the US, according to the recent US Barista Championship. I don't believe he (Kay) ever works at this location, but give him some props if you see him downtown! There is plenty of parking space (also making it the preferred French Press). It's located right next to "real" food if you need it, but the pastries they have are good if you need a snack. They come from a local bakery and aren't overly sweet, but they also aren't overly cheap. All the employees here are great! Friendly and personable. Whoever does the hiring, I commend. If you don't have a chance to visit, you can always order beans from dune coffee roasters (this is what they serve). BUTTTT If you do visit, I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do. One last thing. This place can get crowded and have no seating, but usually the loud front (Storke facing) patio has a few seats open. read more

I didn't set out to visit both the Goleta and the Downtown location on the same day, but I did. I can appreciate that despite selling the same basic products, they have different personalities. If the one downtown is the stripped-down, serious hipster coffee, the one in Goleta is the younger, nerdier sibling that's in love with sharks and dinosaurs. The tres leches coffee is basically a Vietnamese coffee, but not as sweet as I anticipated. No modifications needed at all! Orange cardamom latte is great (SB only, maybe), and the matcha latte is fully unsweetened, so that's nice. Add a touch of sweetness for less grassy/bitter taste. COVID: online ordering is smooth, line control is amazing, and mask/distancing is excellently handled. Love this place. read more

The employees were nice, the barista complimented my Disney shirt. I've been to this French Press quite a few times at this point (thank you for opening one up in Goleta!) and I really enjoy being there! I mainly only drink their Chai, which is pretty good, and their pastries are also delicious, especially their sea salt chocolate chip cookie! I love that it's a very airy space, their wifi is great, and all the baristas are super friendly. I mainly come to study and I rarely find myself disturbed by people coming in and out. I also love that it seems to be a great community space, as I always end up running into people I know there. I have a few gripes, namely that there are no outlets (that I could see, anyways), their food and drinks are a little on the pricey side, and sometimes it's hard to find seating inside especially if you're coming with more than one other person. They have the most friendliest staff ever! I've come into French Press to study a couple of times this past summer and they've always been so nice to all of their customers. It's a nice place to study, but the downside is that they don't have ANY outlets so make sure you come prepared with your laptop charged all the way. I've ordered the americano, latte, and the iced tres leches with oat milk a couple of times. They're both really good!! Especially the iced leches! You have to give it a try :) I think the iced tres leches has tasted a little different every time depending on who makes it, but it's still been really good every time. The next time I come, I want to try the arnold palmer (mix of iced tea and lemonade) because it seems like a lot of people order that too. I love this little coffee spot. It's a nice addition to Goleta. I've come to enjoy Dune/French Press from frequenting their downtown locations and have found this new spot to be just as great. It's situated in an uniquely-shaped venue and is decorated well. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options and the place as a whole is bright and airy without feeling commercialized. Their espresso beverages and fresh pastries are all so good. I will order a scone, warmed up, with butter and jam on the side. It's a real treat and the perfect complement to my beverage (which usually ends up being iced black coffee - so good that it doesn't need cream or sugar). Pair this with a sunny seat and a book or newspaper, and you've got yourself the ideal morning. Dune is worth checking out if you're into good coffee and good vibes. read more

Tasty, delicious coffee is just a hop, skip, and jump away from the Camino Real Marketplace if you're looking for a good alternative to Starbucks. The French Press's space is clean, well-maintained, and well-lit, which should lift your spirits if you'll be working on something at the shop. It's also a great place to meet up with a friend or a co-worker if you're also on the hunt for a great drink. I got a vanilla latte when I was there and at $4.50 for a small, it was the perfect size for me, an infrequent caffeine consumer. It's rich and not at all acidic, lacking the burnt taste of some coffee beans. Dune's beans are awesome, honestly. My friend's matcha latte was also a good option, lacking the abundance of sugary sweetness that some cafes add to their drinks. They also have some cool options, such as getting a whole pot of tea or their iced tres leches drinks. Their baristas are also friendly and personable, and from what I could hear with their interactions with other customers, they really get to know their customers. Listening to patrons as they got to know the faces making their drinks was heartwarming. All The French Press is missing are outlets. On one hand, it promotes flow of traffic, so that people don't sit there for ages and hog all the seating. However, as a college student who wants to escape Isla Vistan coffee shops and the campus library for some high-quality coffee and wifi, it sucks to be booted the second my laptop dies. I'd suggest installing one or two, if only just to watch people fight to the death there. read more

This location is often busy and cheery, making it the perfect "active coffee shop" place to work. Bring a fully-charged laptop, as they don't have public outlets! The French Press is consistent and the baristas have always been personable and kind, remembering my order (even if I haven't been by in a couple weeks). French Press' Americanos are always great, and I highly recommend getting it with a toasted everything bagel + butter. (But if it's the last everything bagel, please save it for me). I've brought a thermos the past few times to keep my Americano piping hot during my stay. If you don't have that, ask for it to-go - then the plastic lid should help retain some of that heat! This location fills up quickly, as there are 5 2-person tables, 2 longer wooden tables, and 2 skinny "bar" areas permanently located inside. There are 5-7 metal outdoor tables to work outside if the weather is cooperating. Grab a spot and settle in! Dune Coffee Roasters is their new line of locally-roasted coffee beans, and it is SO GOOD. We've grabbed multiple bags of the Honduras Olvin Fernandez and have enjoyed it in a Chemex at home. Plus, the bags have a resealable top, so that makes it easy to keep fresh for a week or so after opening. As I mentioned before, there are no public outlets (there's only a plug in the bathroom...) to plug in your dear ol' laptop, so don't rely on that during your stint here. read more

Coffee: my wife ordered a pour over and the tasting notes are spot on, delicious. First time I've smelled passion fruit in a cup coffee (let Drake know!) Drip coffee caffeine content, potent ... don't know if I'll finish the large. I want to, but I'm one sip away from an anxiety attack ..... Croissants are about 7/10, (if you use the Costco croissant 5/10 as a reference ). My 10 y/o son had the cinnamon roll he gave it a 7/10 - needs more cinnamon but has a nice texture. read more

I'm not sure if this place is part of the Dune Coffee Roasters chain or not. It's probably irrelevant. And truth be told, it doesn't really matter because the coffee is damn good. Make no bones about it: This place is a coffee geek's paradise! They don't serve drip coffee. It's either pour-over or french press or espresso. This also means that if you're looking for a quick cup to go, you aren't going to get it. I liken the coffee-drinking experience here to a wine bar. I ordered a french press of a Sumatra roast. When it arrived at my table, they served it on a small, rectangular plate with a cup and a 2-serving french press. That was a nice touch. But I chuckled when I saw the tasting card tucked between the press and the cup, describing the tasting notes of the coffee which were spot-on. I'm a bit of a coffee buff myself, so I appreciated the tasting card. It also reminded me why I prefer the more nutty African coffees as opposed to the fruity Asian strains. Still, it was a great cup! I further knew I was in a coffee snob place when I got a weird look when I asked for some half and half. Mind you, the coffee was great on its own, but like the French and Italians, I put dairy in my coffee if it's available. So sue me. :) But the young man's reaction got another chuckle from me. As far as the employees are concerned, I can confirm from other reviews that the folks that work there are absolutely friendly. They're also very knowledgeable about drink production and can go into minute detail of how the drinks are prepared. one of my go-to places to get HELLA work done or have a cute catch up sess with friends!! just take a 15 min bus ride from campus and the bus stops right in front of a super aesthetic cafe - aka french press!! i highly recommend the pumpkin spice latte with oat milk - i'm not a big coffee drinker, but this drink is perfect and supplies me with the caffeine boost that i need to get on finishing that schoolwork grind. the gluten free and vegan banana bread is also super yum too!! although i wish that the matcha latte tasted much less bitter, that there would be gluten free toasts (because the avo toast here looks so bomb!!), and that they'd have outlets since it's SUCH a nice spot to camp out and study, french press is definitely an awesome lil cafe!! read more
