When we moved from Manhattan to Plano we couldn't believe how mediocre to bad Chinese food was at EVERY restaurant we tried - and that was a lot because we LOVE Chinese food. In NYC there are Chinese restaurants everywhere from upscale to noodle houses so we took for granted that Chinese food here in the DFW area would be equally good. Not so. It wasn't until we tried The Dumpling House (with a Groupon) that we discovered our favorite and the ONLY Chinese restaurant we go to. Their Dumplings are the best and offer more variety than you will find at most restaurants. Jacob and his wife, the owners, are friendly and passionate about their food. Instead of making their dumplings up in large quantities for the day and refrigerating and serving the leftovers the next day, they prepare each order of dumplings as they are ordered. That means it will take a little longer to serve but the freshness and quality are exceptional. Their chef has been cooking for over 40 years and EVERY dish we have tried has been outstanding. Here are some favorites: Green Onion Pancake - When you find it at other Chinese restaurants it's usually thin and greasy. Here it's a thicker (1/4") bread like consistency without a heavy fried, oily taste. Mix the soy, vinegar and hot chili paste table condiments to create your own dipping sauce. Orange Beef - Crispy, sweet and lightly spicy (unless you eat the peppers in the dish which are HOT.) Eat the orange slices, they are deliciously sweet. Veggie Fried Orecchiette - Italian pasta thick and chewy, stir fired with veggies...so good. Crispy Tofu with Spiced Salt Appetizer - The BEST we've ever tasted anywhere! Lightly fried with onions and peppers and a wonderful smoky taste. Actually Jacob told me that the reason why his Tofu is light and delicate, not oily, is because they change their oil every day so the taste is not greasy and heavy. That's the reason why his Tofu is whitish in color and not yellow from old oil that everything has been cooked in for who knows how many days. Order was timely, correct, utensils and condiments were included. Food was hot and we were all happy. Came in via recommendation from a family member. Service was prompt, friendly, and the food arrived quickly. We had fried pork and shrimp dumplings and they were fresh and tasty, with a sizable portion. Could be among the best dumplings I have ever tasted. We also had sweet and sour soup, and beef soup that were above average. The signature pork buns were fresh, but needed soy sauce to go with it. Tried their beef noodle soup, cucumber in garlic sauce, seaweed in garlic sauce last week, all of them tasted really bad. Will not come back again for them!!! In addition, no A/C thru out the entire time and long waiting (30+ mins) while the restaurant is not quite full.The restaurant is full of construction smell + some kind of food smell. It is a shame that they don't ensure their dumplings are cooked. Our friends got really sick after eating at this place. We found that the pork inside the dumplings are still raw red meat. We showed to the waiter, it was really gross. We should have taken the picture while we can. Please be very careful if you come here and eat. Make sure the dumplings are cooked well. read more

I can understand some of the low ratings, because fresh handmade food takes time to make, especially when it's a busy time. However, I think it's worth going for the fresh ingredients and good food. It's one of the best authentic Chinese food you can get here. read more

The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable with good lighting and comfortable booths. We started with the Fried Chicken with Spiced Salt for an appetizer. It was essentially just fried chicken nuggets/chunks with sea salt. Very unimpressive. Some of the chicken was also undercooked and bloody, but the staff were very apologetic and removed the item from the bill. For the entrees, we tried the Orange Chicken and Pork and Chive Dumplings. The Orange chicken was OK, nothing special. If anything, a little bland and had no kick to it at all. The Pork and Chive Dumplings however were amazing! Will definately get them again! For dessert, we had the Fried Creamy Custard appetizer. It was delicious but the fried coating is what makes it an appetizer. Will definitely get it again, but as an appetizer that it was designed as. Overall, it was a pleasant to experience with good food and large, shareable portions . I went to this restaurant twice since they open. The first week when they open, the food we ordered were very good, even most of the food were sold out at that time. We even ordered something to go after the meal. A week later, we went back with the whole family. My children were back home from out of town. Unfortunately, they did not keep the same quality is only in a week. The dumplings and other food were all filled in with low quality meat, which is most of the fat meat, you cannot chew them at all. We were very disappointed. I talked to my other friends about what happened. They all had the same feeling like we do. We all will never go back to this place again. read more

We used to love this place when they were located in Irving. We came to check out their new location today and the service was absolutely horrible. We waited in the front for about 15 mins with no service at all. Several people in front of us left because they were frustrated with the lack of service. Also they have no AC! No AC in the Texas heat with bad service, its a pass for us. I would recommend if you do go to try their fried buns or spicy beef noodle. read more

Does not honor their word. Had a coupon through restaurant dot com which I have used many times at other restaurants no problem. Once seated I showed them the coupon from the get go so there were no surprises. Only surprise was the immediate push back from the staff and the manager, that they flat out would not accept it. We chose to leave and this place chose to lose out what we would have gladly spent. Normally I don't try restaurants with three stars, but since most of comments were about bad service, so we decided to try. I was so happy I did! This place's dumplings and buns were great! The tofu skin appetizer is exactly what I'd expect from a Chinese dish. The dumpling's skins are thick and chewy as you'd expect from northern Chinese style dumplings. The buns' skin was fermented/puffy, soft and thick which again is what you'd expect from a perfect bun if you are used to northern Chinese food. I think the hardest part of dumplings and buns is how well you crafted the flour skin because fillings are hard to mess up. Key to puffy bun skin is to steam the right way so you don't kill the yeast before it made the skin puffy. Knowing how me and my mom struggle to produce this caliber of buns, I certainly appreciate the tastiness they provided. This restaurant didn't disappoint me and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Food is okay but not their services. Been here 4 times and 3 times were soso and last time it was the worst! We had wait for a pan fried dumpling for an hour and we saw all these ppl came after us keep having pan fried items. We thought our item are just taking it slow. However when we finish our existing dishes and still doesn't see it coming while the cooking staffs have nothing to do we got suspicious. We were actually have to leave by that time. And mind you we were already in this restaurant for 1 1/2 hours. Told the younger waitress we need to cancelled that order and get our check because we were in a hurry and need to leave. Instead of giving us the check she went and talked to the cooking lady and checking stuff. By then I know they forgot our order. Fine. I already told her cancelled it I'm waiting for the check. When she came back she was mumbling about something I told her I need the check. She said wait and get somebody to help me. 7-10 minutes passes an older waitress came and told us they forget our order and now it's cooking. It will only take another 10 minutes and I was like are you kidding me? I told you to cancelled it and you guys go ahead make one without consulting me first. And there she go blah blah blah. Fine. We wait until the dumpling came and eat 2 pieces and said we now want our check and be fast. I don't like how they forced us onto paying for an item I told you specifically to cancel it. Especially u hadn't make it at that time. It's very bad customer services imo. No matter how good your food is if you are doing this to me. It's dishonest. If you made a mistake fine. Tell me. My first time after friends found this place and the food is fabulous! Very fresh and enjoyed all the choices of pancakes, dumplings, noodles and such. We shared the Scallion Pancakes which were delish along with a large soup and 3 different dumplings amongst 4 people and it was plenty. All super tasty and hot. My only complaint would be too much black pepper in the hot and sour soup. That and they don't split the check or take credit cards without a $15 minimum per card which had we been able to split each would have been a bit less. May quickly become a go to place for me it's so delish. read more

Easily the best dumplings I've ever had and the price isn't horrible, the service is quite slow and they serve soda in cans that stacks up cost dangerously fast. Terrible service. This was our first time there and wanted to look at the menu. We ordered soup, dumplings, buns and an entree. My husband asked to review the menu a little longer. The dumplings, soup, and entree were delivered by another waitress and the buns were not delivered. We waited a bit for the buns, but our waitress was no where to be found. When we did see her, she wouldn't even look in our direction. Finally, after fifteen minutes after the other food was delivered, I was able to wave her down like an airplane. I told her that my husband never got his buns, and her response was "oh, they are ready." Then why didn't you bring them then?!? My husband never did get to order his entree. He was pissed. When she did bring them, he was so upset by the service that we got to go boxes and left. I was so excited for a dumpling place, but unfortunately we will likely not be back. Went here on a groupon. Hubby and I ordered the chicken and mushroom steamed dumplings. Very yummy. Hubby ordered cashew chicken and I ordered Szechuan beef. The cashew chicken was good. As for the Szechuan beef it was bland. I thought Szechuan had kick or hotness to it. It had none of that. I will probably be back because the dumplings were good. Next time we will order a steam and fried dumpling dish and maybe a bowl of soup. They specialize in their dumplings so stick with them. read more

Based on some of the reviews we read before coming here, we weren't sure how pleased we were going to be. I am happy to report the service was excellent and the food delicious. We had the Green Onion Pancake which is a very generous portion, a 10" pancake cut into 8 pieces. It was delicious. We then had the Pork and Chive Dumplings which were also very good. For our main course we chose the Orange Beef and were not disappointed. The beef was very tender, crispy and delicious. Our ice tea glasses never went below half full before they were refilled. All in all this is a very good place to eat with very good food and excellent service. read more

The dumpling is okay. But the service is really awful. I went there twice and every time experienced extremely long wait. The second time even more ridiculous. I called ahead of time to order the take out items. I got there to pick up my food. Not surprised that my items were not ready, but they let me wait there for another 40 minutes just for 2 orders of dumplings. And during that 40 minutes, they didn't give me any progress update. I have to check on them several times to find out when my food would be ready. The experience is too awful. I won't go back ever again. read more

I dislike giving negative reviews bc negative reviews could impact business owners bread and butter but a negative review is needed when the food they serve is detrimental to people's health. We decided to try this place out after some friends recommended it. They did caution me that they some of our mutual friends recently ate here and got food poisoning. We decided to give it a shot anyway bc we assumed maybe it was something else they ate that caused it. Worst assumption ever! We ordered a couple of orders of fried dumplings, soups and steamed dumplings. We happily ate throughout the entire meal and not focused on our food bc we had 2 infants with us that we had to attend to. On the last dumpling, my friend's husband had a tough time chewing a piece of the pork. Turns out it was a tendon. It wasn't until we examined the dumpling fillings (bc no one really examines the fillings of the dumplings...you typically just eat it in one bite) that we discovered the pork was uncooked. It wasn't just uncooked...it was RAW. It was BLOODY RED and didn't even look like it was partially cooked. The manager comped ONE order of the fried dumplings but the damage is done and I'm praying none of us gets sick from consuming raw pork. I am praying the owners reads this message and understand that they really need to be considerate of other people's health and pay closer attention to the food they serve. Luckily I did not take my 2.5 year old daughter with us to dinner tonight bc knowing myself, I would have persuaded her to eat her dinner! read more

My husband and I just 'accidentally' discovered this little gem tucked next door to the Bavarian Inn. We saw it when attending a play at Rover Dramawerks. Walked in the door and the place was packed, many families of Oriental heritage, and I knew immediately the food must be good. Now, as a little girl growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, we had a Chinese restaurant, Chin's, which I remember to this day as "the BEST" and by which I have judged all other Chinese restaurants both here and in London, where I lived for ten years. The Dumpling House comes real close! We need time to try some of the more exotic dishes but the dumplings are delicious. Told some "foodie" friends about the place and they've told me twice how much they love it and that they go every week. Service has always been gracious and expedient but sounds like the problems experienced by others was before our time. We go regularly now on play nights and whenever we crave dumplings. Would definitely recommend! read more
