There are now two places on my radar for stellar donuts in OC - Sidecar in Costa Mesa and this hole-in-the-wall in Irvine. Every variety I've tried here is nothing short of glorious - warm, fresh, and exceptional flavor and texture-wise. I've had their maple bacon, cinnamon sugar, cookies and cream, blueberry cheesecake, and s'mores flavors. Believe it or not, they actually have great merch here too (as the branding is pretty on point). Five stars for decadent deliciousness. read more

This store is located in a corner, inside a little plaza. I have to admit, their donuts are good! Well, at least the ones I got: Strawberry Shortcake and Maple Bacon Cheese Sausage Egg Donut Sandwich. Don't order Americano from them. The Americano tastes like coffee flavored water. My Bf got the blueberry pancake and maple bacon. Donuts were piping hot when they came out, size in on the smaller size so can easily eat two of them. My donut wasn't too sweet, like how didn't over sauced it with marshmallow. Tried a bit of my BFs donut as well, the blueberry pancake was a bit sweet, but with good blueberry sauce. What a Yelp home run, I did a quick sweep near the airport and Boom! So I as stood at Duck Donuts with my mouth open in wonder realizing that someone finally figured it out!!!!! The concept is basic yet brilliant. You order a donut chipotle style, from the glaze, icing and extras. AFTER you order they make the donut. They also have pre made donut styles for people like me who need structure lol. I noticed why a lot of people were eating their donuts as soon as it was handed over, you are literally getting a steaming hot donut they want you want it! No pics unfortunately as the donuts were smashed by all of us. Our fave was the beach ball and blueberry pancake-- I think Duck donuts has knocked Sidecar out of the top spot. Came here a couple days ago to get some donuts. Husband ordered: 1) Cookies and cream - so good if you like oreo cookies 2) Citrus pop - yum if you like citrus flavor! The associate at the counter walked me through how to select the donuts for my half-dozen and gave me recommendations based on popularity and seasonality. I used my 10% off coupon (thanks Yelp check-in!) and purchased six freshly made donuts for $13.05. I waited about 10 minutes for them to be ready, and it was well worth it. We loved our selections and were pleasantly surprised at the density and creaminess of their cake donut base. I like taking whats from the menu because it's already good! First: the customer service is superb. I've been there 3 times and never seen a frowning employee, super nice, very attentive and QUICK! Second: the donuts....oh my gosh so good and fresh. Just ask for a half dozen variety and taste them all. I love a classic glazed with rainbow chips. Seems like a good barometer to assess a donut no? But I also like all the creative ones too. And it all really comes down to the dough and the fact that it's fresh. Usually cake donuts get stale or are heavy but these have a delicious it factor. This donut shop opens until late, and I just stopped by to pick up some donuts as dessert. The cashier was very friendly, and she gave me some recommendations. She also told me that I can build my own donut if I don't like any of their combinations. I ordered blueberry pancake, sunrise, peanut butter paradise, and chocolate glaze. Soooooo good!!! What makes them so special? The fact that they make the donuts fresh to order! I didn't know it would make such a difference but it really does! I also like how you can custom make your donut. We chose a strawberry glaze with chocolate sprinkles and maple drizzle. It was delicious! We split the donut between the two of us and it was plenty of sugar...although they are so good it's easy to eat one on your own. But that's a little too much sugar for us. They also have suggested donut flavors that I was able to try at a tasting event. I tried the blueberry glaze and that was also very good. During the holiday there are seasonal flavors like chocolate mint that is also very good! For a more detailed review, read my earlier review!! This update is just to discuss the difference between my experiences. I came back suuupppeer early in the morning and got a 5 star experience (mainly because this parking lot SUCKS usually, but this time no one was there.) The quality of donuts were still just as good but I enjoyed these donuts more because the icings were warmer and therefore thinner. Last time, I commented that these donuts were too sweet because the icing was way too thick. I hope they make sure to keep the icing warmed and thin consistently. Alright, so this isn't necessarily the reason why Duck Donuts has such great reviews, because their donuts are pretty tasty, but when I went with my girlfriend, the cashier told us that if we left a review on Yelp, we would each get $5 off our order (taking a total of $10 off!). I'd imagine that this fantastic offer would play a hand in why they have such a strong score on Yelp. Now onto the actual review: Duck Donuts has a ton of fun and unique options. It's especially cool how they allow you to customize the donuts to your liking and they'll make it on the spot, so you know you're getting something fresh (and quite hot actually!) In case you don't know what you want, they are also very helpful with suggesting some popular options and their seasonal flavors. The donuts themselves are a little on the softer side of things, so there's not as much of a bite to them as people may be used to. I still found them to be delicious though, so I'd highly recommend them if your sweet tooth is having a craving! read more

Such a cute place where all the donuts are "duckilicious!" You can create your own which can be intimidating at first especially if other people are waiting behind you BUT for your convenience they have pre-flavors to easily select from. My boyfriend had the lemon and raspberry combo which he loved and for chocolate and vanilla (and added caramel) for me which was a perfect trifecta!). Now that I know what to expect, I can't wait until next time when we can be more adventurous with our own flavors/toppings. We tried the mint chocolate, smores, the boardwalk, and the Oreo crumble. All 4 were amazing, and my favorite was the mint chocolate. Great flavor combinations and great texture! Discovered this place while picking up dinner and let's just say is that all I could smell was the donuts on the ride home. The donuts are so fresh and customizable. We went with selecting the ones from the menu as it was my first time trying this place. We went with 6 different flavors to share with 3 people: 1. Glazed with holiday sprinkles - classic especially during the holidays 2. Blueberry pancake - Really excited about this one and it did not disappoint! 3. Midnight madness - probably my least favorite but still tasty! just a bit too chocolatety for my liking 4. Maple icing with salted caramel drizzle - couldn't really taste the salted caramel drizzle but still enjoyed this one cause who doesn't like maple? 5. Pumpkin roll - it was a good mix of pumpkin flavor and icing. I was worried the pumpkin flavor was going to be overpowering, but it wasn't! Reminded me of Thanksgiving 6.
