Their cake donuts are slightly more dense then either cake donuts (which I love), they have many toppings including seasonal ones which are great, and the best par is you can make any combo of toppings you wish. (If you can get them to understand); My dog loves what we invented call the "dog donut" - bare with bacon (could switch for peanuts). Yes the staff will be confused. Just say it is for your dog then they will be ok. (They get worried bc it won't stick) Here are others we love for us. The donuts here are also a tiny bit denser than your typical donuts. With a variety of sugars, icings, sprinkles, toppings, and drizzles, you can order all sorts of different types of donuts. The fact that you can add bacon to a donut is a real thing here; too awesome, right?! Although you can go crazy with your toppings, I highly recommend getting the cinnamon sugar glazed donut. We preferred this because choosing your own dozen seemed overwhelming to us lol. So many choices! We tried their signature assortment dozen from one of the menus and were not disappointed. We wound up getting one of each of the specialty donuts they offered. The three best were the ones whose names I've completely forgotten one was lemon frosted with raspberry drizzle, one was blueberry frosted with maple drizzle, and the last was maple frosted with maple bacon on top of it. The donut is also made fresh in front of you and it is freshly served once you get it. I picked the blueberry icing, topped with oreos, and drizzled with hot fudge. After trying duck donuts I made a promise to myself to never have another donut from Dunkin' Donuts ever again! These donuts are simply delicious and perfect. You get to choose what kind of donut you want (bare, cinnamon sugar, etc), the type of icing, toppings, and drizzle. The donuts are fresh and hot and made right in front of you. What makes these donuts so good is that they are cake donuts! I got a donut with strawberry icing and rainbow sprinkles and a cinnamon sugar donut with vanilla icing and Oreos on top. I would have to say, I actually enjoyed these donuts more when they got cold. I ate the strawberry donut while it was hot and it was a sticky mess. This time I got a few doughnuts from their spooky box and they were delicious! Anything with the apple streusel is a bit messy, so be careful with that doughnut. I really enjoyed the apple and pumpkin flavored doughnuts. Maple bacon donuts are a tasty option as well, yes it has real bacon bits on top of a maple glazed doughnut. They have a multitude of toppings so you can be creative, but you also have the ability to keep it simple and just get a donut with chocolate or vanilla icing. The staff told me the oil was not getting hot enough and they ran out of dough twice already. People know that I've been trying to avoid Duck Donuts, as I wanted to check out their original Duck location out in NC. But, craving for some sweets after having dinner in the area, the hubs and I stopped on by. I was pretty happy that there wasn't a line, as I've head that all Duck Donuts locations seem to have crazy waits (as everything is made to-order). Founded by Russell DiGilio, the menu is actually pretty short and sweet - when you walk in, you grab a little checklist with a golfer pencil, and mark the number of donuts you want (single, 1/2 dozen, dozen, or a bucket (18)), and the coating (bare, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glazed, vanilla icing, chocolate icing, lemon icing, peanut butter icing, maple icing, and strawberry icing) plus optional toppings (such as shredded coconut, chocolate sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles, chopped peanuts, or bacon). Their 'cake' donut is hot hot hot, and it is actually not as dense as I usually like it to be - it is actually more light, slightly airy, smaller in size, and tastes a hint of funnel cakes. I tried: a lemon icing with shredded coconuts (the lemon wasn't as pronounced and citrus-y as I hoped it would be); orange (again, not as citrus-like as I thought it would be, but slightly better than the lemon coating); strawberry with rainbow sprinkles (the hubs really enjoyed this; this had a very subtle strawberry taste to it); and, my personal favorite of them all, the maple with the bacon topping (this combo was literally one of the best maple bacon donuts I've had at any donut shop - it wasn't overly sweet, but the generous amount of perfectly-fried bacon bits (that were not greasy to begin with) paired well with their subtle maple glaze! My daughter raves about this place so when I came up for her wedding it was one of the stops we just had to make. It's an interesting concept. They make the donuts to order. You pick your glaze and toppings and they make it for you. the donut is a cake donut. I decided to go for chocolate glaze topped with bacon. It was nice and warm when I got it. I took that first bite and although the glaze was really good and the bacon was well....what can I say...it's bacon...can't go wrong there but the donut was a bit underdone. I collect rubber duck paraphernalia and I'm affectionately known as a "Rubber Duck Lady," so you can say that Duck Donuts is up my alley. Each donut is fresh and made to order right in front of your eyes. Sure, it takes some time for this magic to happen but I would rather wait around 5-10 minutes for fresh, hot donuts than grab some off the rack at a convenience store. You can watch the entire process unfold like a choreographed dance. The assembly line works efficiently, moving bare donuts to their icing and toppings with ease. Coating choices include bare, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glazed, vanilla icing, chocolate icing, lemon icing, peanut butter icing, maple icing, and strawberry icing. You can add toppings such as shredded coconut, chocolate sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles, chopped peanuts, and bacon. Donuts are sold by the singles, half dozen, dozen, or bucket of 18. I got half a dozen. My choices? Bare, glazed, chocolate icing, maple icing, strawberry with vanilla drizzle, and a seasonal pumpkin pie. So far, I've had the strawberry with vanilla drizzle, chocolate, and maple donuts and they've all been delicious, even a day after purchasing. Not too heavy, good flavors, fresh, made to order. Just microwave for 8-10 seconds and it's (almost) as good as if they've been picked off the conveyor belt. They also sell OJ, coffee, milk, and other beverages to go along with your donuts. Kids, the Yelp reviews are true! Sarah S.'s yelp review convinced me and ultimately led me here. This place is awesome. The donuts are good, soft, fresh and made to order. They are best warm out of the fryer, straight to the box. They aren't cake donuts, but they are more special than your regular yeast donut. I had to try them because all of the cool kids were trying them or I missed the official Yelp event... either way, a visit wasn't to be missed as I was in the vicinity (which rarely I am.) So glad I did, the calories were worth it! Tips/ things to note: They have about 6 toppings. For some reason, I expected a Fro Yo experience and their plethora of toppings for my donuts, but that wasn't the case. Ultimately, what they have is enough, I guess. I learned after my visit from Sarah S. that you could have multiple toppings on one! Maple and bacon I will try next visit. French toast is really good... beware of the powder sugar! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE??? These Donuts are AMAZING and I honestly don't know why it took me soooo long to try them out! I LOVE the plain donut. It's so nice and warm and delicious when it comes straight out of the fryer. You have to eat them warm, either as soon as you get them or definitely heat them up when you get home or to the office. I will always get at least 1 plain that I can eat as soon as I get to the car. I have not tried all of their flavors but they all look very good. When you first walk into the shop, there are note pads and pencils for you to mark exactly what you want. They always have a donut of the day that's posted and I was lucky enough to walk in on their Recess Peanut Butter day! I would highly recommend this place to any and everyone. Duck Donuts is like treating your mouth to a taste of heaven. It's glorious in so many ways that I can't begin to tell you what a treat it is. It is truly an experience that one must take part in to understand why it is so well loved. I visited this location on a late Saturday afternoon with some family that were trying it for the first time. They couldn't quite understand why I was so adamant about them trying it out, but once they took their first donut bites I saw their eyes light up with acknowledgement of why I was so crazy about this joint. From their it was over and each of them HAD to have another donut. Oh and they HAD to get some to go. Speaking of to go, this place has minimal seating so be prepared to throw fisticuffs for a table(just kidding) or get the donuts to go. When we visited it wasn't too busy which was also a plus. That's not to say they didn't have a steady stream of business, but it wasn't the 20-30 minute wait that I've heard about in other locations. The facility is very clean and that might be because it's new, but from what I know they do a good job of keeping it that way. The staff was very friendly and worked hard to crank out the donuts in a timely fashion. DIY DONUTS SAY WHAT?! I decided to see what all the recent hype was about and try this place out. Normally, I'm not a donut person, but I had a random craving for it after seeing all the Instagram pictures (and another win for social media..womp womp). When you come in you can either fill out a form for your custom orders or order directly with the cashier. Step 1: Choose your amount: One donut, 1/2 dozen, dozen, etc. Step 2: Choose your glaze: Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon, maple, cinnamon sugar, etc. Step 3: Choose your topping: Sprinkles, coconut shavings, peanuts, bacon, etc. The ordering form is somewhat limited as to how you can customize, but if you tell the cashier your specifics they will definitely accommodate. I ordered a 1/2 dozen of a random variety. I tried the maple glaze, which was the one I was set on sampling, and it was EVERYTHING. The glaze had the right amount of sweetness and the donut was fresh with a great, pillowy texture (FYI they are all cake donuts). The lemon glaze was also tasty! I couldn't stop picking at the delicious leftover glaze. The workers are very friendly and the service is quick- the guy preparing the donuts messed up one of my orders so he made me a couple of freebies just because! They also offer coffee, tea, juices, donut sundaes, Duck Donuts merchandise, etc. This place is convenient being right of Fairfax Blvd and the donuts are inexpensive-- a 1/2 dozen was $6.95.
