2/12/23 Sabrina (if this is the manager I met) was polite, but not openly friendly. For the most part, I was in an out and that is about all that happened. I picked up two drinks for my wife and I that came to $4.50. This should be some good Gatorade. Ordering on line was an experience. My wife got her orders right, but my orders were missing an ingredient for 3 orders of donuts after I had already selected them. Oh well. Problem fixed and I now have the Donuts in my car. I've always loved cake donuts more so than the normal fried dough. Thus, Duck Donuts was made for me-- who doesn't like freshly made cake donuts to order (rhetorical). It's nice that there are several locations making this place much easier to access across Northern Virginia/DC Metropolitan area. Duck's have a ton of flavors from seasonal to their most popular selections. If there's one thing I wish could be changed is the price difference between selecting one of their listed flavors and creating your own donut. I can create my own donut with the same ingredients as one of their listed donuts for half the cost. It's a tedious workaround but I'm sure people have done it. Duck donuts is a wonderful place with the freshest fried dough. We tried the breakfast donut (cinnamon coffee) as well as the PB&J. Both were a solid 5 but I do wish that I had gotten peanuts as a topping on the PB&J. I did notice that while they occur chocolate donut options now, the chocolate has been sitting in the rack for a little bit. The beauty of Duck Donuts is in the freshness of the fried dough, so I'm not sure if I would try the chocolate. For the hint of sweetness try out their regular glazed, the sweetness isn't overpowering. There were ordering forms with wax pencils and colorful pictures of the many donuts they offer, and spaces to make your own donut creation if nothing in the numerous pictures looked good to you. Once she was available I took my card up and asked if there were price differences between the types of donuts. Nope! So I ordered a half dozen mix for my boss and one for myself. They made my donut first so I could try it out when I was waiting as they hand make every donut to order. Again I wasn't expecting much. Actually I was expecting to be grossed out by an oily way-too-sweet pastry. I took a bite and wow, it was good. It was like a really good moist bite of cake with delicious toppings. Sweet but not too much. It was yummy. The friendly person at the counter mentioned they had fresh coffee and I also saw they had alternative milk options. I found it surprising that a donut place had both soy and almond milk available when lots of other bakery places don't have any. It's a good thing the half dozen I ordered were finished before I was done with with my donut or else I may have ordered another for myself before leaving. I'm a fan. I'll probably be dropping in again when I'm near one just to make sure I wasn't mistaken on how good it was. Then again. And agajn.... Really appreciate the menus with photos which help my 5 year old pick out his combination of toppings and drizzles. They provide markers too so all he had to do was mark on the picture menu which ones he wanted. He also gets to watch them decorate his donuts! I wanted a McDonald's sausage egg and cheese sandwich, but alas they no longer do all day breakfast and my husband wanted donuts. After he got donuts he informed me they had egg sandwiches. So I then went into the store. No one was in line ahead of me and my sandwich took over 10 minutes to come out. Only after I asked, and someone checked did it "just come out". So I get to the car and already the smell was not enticing me but I tried to take one for the team so we could get to the zoo already! This sandwich was inedible. First of all it was so unnaturally hot, I couldn't even pick it up... it was on an English muffin. Minutes later I still could not bite into it without some pain. A section of the sausage was so hard (because it was obviously microwaved 5x too long) I couldn't chew it: (see left side of sandwich in image) The "egg" product was so spongy (and tiny) it did not even taste like egg. Just terrible. I tried to eat it. It was the worst egg sandwich of my life and this gal has eaten her fair share. This thing did not deserve to waste my daily intake of calories. I was better off going hungry till my next meal. So very disappointing. Even the cheese was absolutely disgusting, and I like ALL cheese, processed or not. I give two stars because my husband and nephew liked their donuts. Moral of the story. (And I knew better)... don't get an egg sandwich at a donut store. (Dunkin' Donuts egg sandwiches are also terrible but nothing compares to this one).
