I really wanted to rate this place higher but this is my second visit and nothing really stands out here. They weigh the cookies and pastries so there's not a set price per item unless you're ordering a cake or something as far as I know. Their donuts are decent, not oily or too heavy and lightly covered in sugar. However, everything else seems to taste the exact same - and I bought 6 different pastries...some even tasted stale. read more

This cool shop is awesome! Please don't let the small size fool you. This shop is busting with smells and choices of sweet breads, pastries and cakes including holiday specialities! I came here in January for "king bread" better known as Rosca de Reyes. I strongly suggest getting early or you will only have the large ones to choose ones but you'll still be very happy!! My wife and I travel the country considerably, and we rarely will find a place with the selection, product quality, taste and variety Panaderia El Molino (PEM) in Manassas offers. From the Great Northwest, to the Southwest and Southeast, few Mexican Bakeries can boast what PEM can! Yeah. For those who have been following me from the very beginning, you know I have been looking for 3 things since leaving the New Jersey area. Good pizza (that delivers), good Chinese (that delivers), and a good bakery (that has good pastries). Winchester had 2 of the 3 (Chinese and a bakery, and even then that was in Charles Town, 30 minutes away), Manassas? So far, it was a woeful 0-fer, until I came across this place. It's literally a hole in the wall when you pass it by, and it never think much of it until you see the inside. It has a HUGE selection of pan dulce (sweet bread), cookies, donuts, and every other thing you could possibly imagine. All you have to do is take a pair of tongs, and put what you want in a bag. Everything then is weighed and there you have it, easy. As for the holding quality, the stuff I have found so far holds very well. Everything was still fresh days later and still had great tastes. Even the stuff with the fruit on the inside. I was very pleased with this. Churros, amongst fruit turnovers, and some cakes, were all very good and had excellent flavor and texture. I will conclude by saying I will definitely be back here. This was quite an experience that I did not expect, but glad as heck I did. read more

Awesome!!!! We came on Sunday morning and were greeted by a waft of fresh baked sweet bread. Found racks of fresh out the oven Mexican bread being rolled out. Literally, everything was freshly baked. It's rare to find Mexican bread that isn't old and stale trying to be passed off as still good. Not here! This is a cute little panaderia, the lady at the register is like abuelita. Great little shop! They have a huge variety of Mexican pastries, cookies AND tamales! These are not your standard sizes, everything seemed a little oversized-especially the pan de dulces. I am not sure how they charge for the pastries vs cookies, but she weighed them. The tamales are $2.50 each and there was three types - spicy green Chile chicken, Red Chile beef and I think one vegetarian. The tamales are HUGE! I bought a half dozen chicken and half dozen beef for a party. The chicken definitely had a kick and all I needed a side of beansfrom home! read more

In Brazil they love bread. They love fresh bread. There is a bakery in every neighborhood, and the people know at what time the bread comes out of the oven. Sometimes people line up waiting. This place isn't Brazilian, but it's just that fresh bread still warm from the oven can't be beat. I used to buy sliced bread off the shelf at the supermarket thinking I was eating food. I even ate spinach from a can. My parents made me. I bought Thomas' bagels too thinking I was eating good food. Ya Basta! I say. Like the name suggests, this place is a bakery. They bake various types of fresh bread on the spot all day. They have some awesome sandwich rolls that are like heaven when they come out of the oven. You can go there or call and find out when they'll be baking a new batch so you can get it piping fresh. Or you can get what they have in their display case which is excellent too; it's just that nothing beats that right out of the oven fresh bread taste. And it's always stocked with good eats. They have sweet bread which is bread with a little bit of sugar mixture on the outside. Precious likes to dip that in her coffee. The rolls are soooo good. They are about 8 inch white bread sandwich rolls. They are perfect for my homemade steak and cheese or my wife's panes con pollo. In the approximately 20 times I have been here, there has never been a time when there was not a plentiful amount available. My mom and dad ask me to bring them home to WV when I visit. I have tried just about every type of sweet bread they sell but what sticks out the most for me is the bread pudding. Just a little slice is so thick and heavy. It is perfectly baked sometimes with raisins and sometimes without. The glaze is almost caramel like and probably my favorite part. We also enjoy the tres leches cake. This has become most of our family members choice for a birthday cake. The milk is the perfect amount to make the cake beyond moist but somehow does not make it soggy. The cake is topped with a generous amount of fresh fruit and a very light and fluffy whipped icing. I hate sickening sweet sheet cake icing so this is perfect for me. My other favorite is at checkout to ask for an atol de elote. It tastes fresh and homemade. It is thin enough to drink, has pieces of fresh corn in it and just a touch of cinnamon. It goes great with any of the pieces of bread. read more

I lived on the Texas border of Mexico for several years and have a few favorite sweet breads- I have to admit, I actually liked this better than the Mexican bakeries that were 2 miles from Mexico! Yes Please!!! Not giving them a 4 or 5 simply because they don't have enough room in their bakery for their customer volume! The breads are all fresh and made daily, the sweet cakes they have are great! I am from a town in California with lots of little bakeries like this and after 5 years in Virginia I found a place that is just like back home! If you need something to dunk in your coffee then forget the same old everyday donuts and come here! If you need fresh bread for the most awesome sandwich you ever plan on making then come here for it fresh and warm out of the oven! My husband and I tried out this bakery for the first time this morning. It is a tiny space but they pack in all kinds of good pastries for you to choose from. We picked up a few cookies and sweet bread to have with our morning coffee. We didn't have a ton of interaction with the employees but the lady who checked us out was very helpful and polite. I went here saturday 1/4/14 because my friend wanted a rosca de reyes, a traditional sweetbread for el dia de los reyes which is January 6, and although I didnt know what it was for really, she got it and it looked fresh and beautiful and alot better than the stuff in the spanish stores. I got some bolillos/pan frances and also some pan dulce for my boyfriend. The bolillos are AWESOME. not good, or "ok" but delicious, soft, fragrant and better than any freaking bread you get from giant or walmart! Now, I must say, if you are looking for sickening sweet dunkin donuts type donuts and such, you will have to move on. The bread here is traditional, not overly sweet, and a nice change from american style pastries. They also sell cakes here, meringue cookies, atol, and tamales. The meringues ( espumillas) looked good, and the cakes were lovely and decorated with fresh fruit. I will DEFINITELY be coming back here, and recomending this bakery to my friends. read more
