Went to Jireh Bakery Cafe this past weekend and had a mostly good experience. The service was great--I asked if they could split two full-size Thai tea boba drinks in half for my little ones, and they happily did it with no hesitation. Even with four cups, they still filled mine generously, which I really appreciated. The disappointment came once we started drinking. It honestly tasted like milk with unsweetened boba. I don't mind if the boba isn't sweet as long as the drink has enough flavor, but in this case, the milk flavor was overpowering, and the tea was barely noticeable. We also ordered a bean pastry, which was surprisingly delicious! It was sweet, and if you didn't know it was made with beans, you probably wouldn't even notice. Overall, I'd be open to going back. I'm not sure if the overly milky flavor was a fluke from splitting the drinks or if that's just their usual recipe. The café itself is cute with cozy vibes. It's right off a main road (Route 29). Parking is available on the side and in the back, and there's a decent amount of seating. Just note they close at 9 PM, so if you're looking for a late-night café spot, this may not be the best option. read more

The staff was the best part of this place! They were so kind and happy to help. We tried the roll cakes, the Mel's Choice Sandwich, and the fried dumplings. Everything definitely tasted homely and delicious, with a clean flavor. All of the items were amazing and we are definitely looking to go back. In fact, we are cake tasting for a wedding and this bakery is a top contender out of 6 different Asian bakeries we've been to. The interior is quaint and was decently sized. There were some paintings from a local artist on sale hanging in the walls! This Coffee Shop is great for those who want something more quiet and much more chill. I think the location also matters too. It's not in a plaza with lots of ample parking in the back. Inside there's tables for people to sit down but upstairs has more room for those who can't find seats anywhere. While there is a bakery and a food menu, I only came here for a coffee fix. I did get a Strawberry Creme Cake Slice just because it looked really delicious. The Coffee was just cold brew coffee, nothing crazy but on a warm day it was much needed. I ordered from DoorDash and the delivery was very quick! I ordered a Cafe Latte and a Turkey & Cheese panini and the Mel's Choice panini, and a Roast Beef Melt with au jus. Everything was absolutely delicious!! The Turkey & Cheese did come with potato chips and of course, they were delicious as well! I will definitely be ordering from here again!! We ordered The Hungry Man platter. It was ok . French toast was soggy . They did not use the right bread for French toast . Fried potato had no salt or peeper . Same with two poached eggs . This cafe is on my list of places to go when I study. There is free wi-fi (but can cut off randomly), and there's a lot of space to study. On the first floor is the bakery and cafe where you can order food and it is aesthetically pleasing with warm tones and lights. The first floor is clean and the staff was nice. I ordered the turkey club without tomatoes and onions, and it comes with chips. It was a good sandwich that would keep me filled, but not anything crazy. Only con about this place is the second floor. Yes there is more space, but it is not the cleanest. It seems like the area is neglected and there is not a lot of ventilation so it could get hot and humid. It also is not the cleanest, most of the tables are sticky. Overall I would come here again for a quick bite, and if the first floor is empty, I would stay and study there. read more

This is such aa wonderful cafe and bakery. They have a lot of really good options and their coffee is excellent. I got the raspberry Mocha Latte and it was great not too sweet and the espresso itself had great flavor. It's less expensive than Starbucks and the staff is very nice. We had an amazing time at the shop, which was impeccably clean and had even more options in the treats section. Whether you prefer ordering online or in-store, the process is seamless. We were lucky to avoid any lines and had the chance to explore all the selections before making our choices. Aside from our chosen treats - I opted for a BELT (Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato) on a bagel without mayo, and we also grabbed a latte to-go. Jireh Bakery has been a go-to spot for studying, meeting friends and just working for me for as long as I can remember. Growing up around here, it was the place to grab my weekly dessert fix, and it still holds up. Their cream buns are absolutely amazing, one of the best in an area with so much competition. The cakes and drinks are also just right, not overly sweet like you find at some other places. Theres a lot of seating upstairs and downstairs with free wifi making the vibe super relaxed, and there's a nice mix of sweet and savory options. I do think they could add a bit more variety to the snacks. I recently had the cheese fries which I wasn't a fan of. However, there seem to be other savory options that are popular. read more

The staff members are incredibly inviting and willing to help answer any questions one might have. There is a large parking lot in the back and plenty of comfortable seating for singles, couples or even larger groups inside. For my drink, I ordered an iced caramel macchiato. It was fabulous and had just enough caramel flavor without being too sweet. For a bite to eat, I ordered the Mel's choice sandwich which included egg, turkey, avocado, tomato, onion, mayo and American cheese with a choice of bread. I opted for the everything bagel and was pleased with the fact that they offered flavored bagels. To be frank, the sandwich was quite plain and no different than one I could have made at home. Maybe if they added a special sauce or seasoning it could be improved but I think I will just stick with the prepackaged baked goods for now. Came out trying this place after sometime. I ended up getting the mango boba which was okay the boba was a little bit on the hard side but the mango juice was good. The other things I picked up were the Nutella cookies which were good as well as the tofu crisp also good. A little bit of ways to dry out but you're in the area I would definitely check it out. It could be romantic and suitable for business meetings in private areas. There is plenty of parking available. The costs are under $25 per person depending on your appetite. This place has potential, but for now is just average. Pros: lots of space, upstairs and downstairs and has a good selection of pastries, cookies and baked goods. I also appreciate the faith-based touch of quotes and decor (upstairs). The entire upstairs feels a bit abandoned; although there's lots of space, it's empty space that could use some personality. The upstairs wasn't inviting. It costed $11 which was significantly more than what it deserved; a Subway sandwich might have been better (at $8). Service was also just okay. I really enjoyed all the pastry options, they mostly have bread with cream based fillings and of course other fillings, but the cream based ones are to die for! The cafe is small and rustic looking inside! They have one large table in the middle, so a large party could come in, but the vibe is very calm, so I don't recommend coming if you plan to be loud. I got their fall chai drink with apple, it was quite delicious! Food is not served to you, you do have to get up and get it, which is not at all bad. The service was pleasant. read more

After eating a huge lunch with a friend before an appointment in DC, I was in desperate need to get a bit of caffeine before the drive so I wouldn't experience a food coma. I found this place along my route and stopped in. I was so surprised by how cute it was inside, as the outside was very unassuming. There were many tables inside and it felt very inviting. I ordered a hot chai latte. After I paid, the employee went to the back to make my order and presented it at the side window when it was done. It was definitely very hot, so in my haste to wake back up, I burned my tongue a little bit. The flavor of the chai was pretty delicate and creamy. I went to Jireh for the first time today since I was invited by a friend to study. Before I begin this review I would like to admit to our own faults first. My friend brought me boba to give to me when we met there and I do admit that we both missed the "no outside food and drinks" sign. We were studying and our eyes were glued to our laptop screens the time we were there. To continue, we were approached by an employee who I assume the owner of the shop, who very rudely asked us to leave bc of our outdoor drinks. She had short hair and wore a hat and apron. The first thing she said to us was to leave, followed by her reasoning, the drinks. She stated "this is a small business, it is common sense" and continued to tell us to get out in a rude manner. My friend asked if she wanted us to throw the drinks out and she replied "just leave." She also said that the WiFi we were using was for customers only. We did not argue and did as she wished, so we just left. The issue is not that we were kicked out for having outside food. That is understandable and we take responsibility for not reading the signs. However, the mannerisms were not acceptable and extremely unwelcoming. Will not be coming here again. read more

I remember amongst our friends we always used to say Jireh has good drinks but horrible pastries. It's been a few years since I've been back .... And my friend who wasn't from the area, delivered me a cake from a local shop; jireh. Well .... Unfortunately it was one of the worst cakes I've had .... (the macaroon shells were stale, the glazed strawberries were rotten, the cake bread was dry, and the frosting was horrible. While in the area and in he mood for a light breakfast and coffee, I stopped in to Jireh. This is a cool, old house which was turned into a bakery and coffee shop. They offer breakfast (full breakfasts, like omelets to sandwiches) and coffee and treats. Service was very friendly. I saw that their breakfast sandwich is made on your choice of 5 different breads and asked the cashier which was best, she suggest white and I went with it. The sandwich was made promptly, it was fresh and hot and made with fresh egg. The bread was awesome! Nice, thick and lightly toasted, it worked perfectly on this egg & cheese sandwich. The Americano I got to go with it was on-point! Great flavor, fresh beans ground up for that espresso and very enjoyable. I really enjoyed the rustic, old house vibe with the filament bulbs too! My first experience at "Jireh Cafe" didn't go as well as I had hoped. It's a sweet little place with delicious food. The bun with custard inside was excellent. However, the service we received was at best nonexistent. I'm talking about ordering, paying, picking up, and cleaning up after yourself. I find it extremely annoying whenever a restaurant requests a tip before delivering any food. Do you know what the tip is for? I hardly ever returned to a restaurant that requires tips, especially before anything good started to happen. I didn't have a server, and you already had a tip request option appear while I wasn't even eating! The food is subpar, something I make at home everyday. When we confirmed our order for breakfast food, the girl still got it wrong. I'm hoping I'll be getting a refund for that added fee. In the end, I didn't find anything that would entice me to return. My friends and I got three different pastries here and were disappointed with two of them. The "Strawberry Cream" bread was a pink colored bread with whipped cream that didn't have any strawberry flavor to it. It tasted like a regular cream bread, but my biggest complaint was how dry and boring the bread tasted. Even the cream did not help make the bread taste better. Additionally, same complaint with the "Red Bean Bun", which was also very dry with a sliver of red bean layer. I brought back a "Chocolate Bear" character bread for another friend who said it was very tasty and moist, so maybe some pastries are better than others? Not sure why there's such a large disparity between pastries. read more

For sitting at such a busy intersection, Jireh sure offers a quaint experience for those looking for some reading or catching up with friends. For me, it's mainly mid-day pastry eating :-) TBH, it's something about the way Korean bakery/cafes are set up... they totally make you feel like you're shopping and you end up adding more to your basket than you had originally planned. It's the damn face character breads I tell ya (yes you're cute I will buy you then eat you). This time around, I grabbed the cream cheese pound cake and vanilla loaf roll with cream. Very airy and fresh despite coming in at 4pm on a weekday. They've got some outdoor seating, so be sure to take advantage before the weather turns. read more

I heard from a friend they had nice bakery items and meals, so I stopped by on my way to the grocery store. I was only planning on picking up one item, but ended up finding 3 that I wanted to try! I got the pumpkin stuffed bread, spicy croquette, and mixed nuts bread. They were all under $3 so I was really impressed by the pricing. The spicy croquette was stuffed with potato, onion, carrots. It was pretty tasty, though I personally didn't find it spicy. My favorite pastry was the nut bread- it was thick and had a strong cinnamon flavor. Would definitely buy that one again! read more

Cockroach in my drink. Holy moly. In all my years of going to cafes in the NoVA area, I never thought this would happen to me, but it did. A cockroach in my drink!!! I ordered the Ice Pumpkin Spice Latte and drank about 4/5ths of the cup when I began seeing small pieces of brown floating on top of the drink. At that time, I didn't think too much of it because I assumed that the barista accidentally added bits of coffee beans. Later when I glanced back at the drink I noticed a big brown piece floating on top of it. Upon closer look, I saw it: A medium sized cockroach. Suddenly it all made sense, the small brown pieces were the parts of that cockroach that just happened to float to the surface. Being that the cockroach was on bottom, there is no way I could've found it until I drank most of it. Yuck. I Immediately headed over to the cashier and showed her my cup. The cashier immediately brought out the barista so that I could deal with her directly. The barista was panicking and very apologetic about the incident. I would freak out too if a drink I made for someone had a big piece of cockroach at the bottom. The barista was very sweet in trying to make up for the incident. However, this is where I believe the real problem occurred. When I first approached the cashier, she immediately went back to bring out the barista. The barista was being very apologetic, but she wasn't sure what to do with the situation. She called the supervisor, but afterwards she came back to me offering a refund for my drink and another drink on the house. I asked if the refund was for my drink only or for my group (we bought 5 drinks) and the reply was that the refund was for the me only. Disappointed, I asked for a refund for all of the drinks in my group because if such little care went into checking a small-sized cup of drink before it was served, who knows what was done for the other drinks? Upon asking for a refund for my entire group (only worth about $22) she called the supervisor again to get an approval. I did get the refund. Afterwards, the barista gave me a business card to call tomorrow morning to discuss the situation directly with the supervisor. Looking back, I was appreciative of the barista and her willingness to make up for what has happened. Things like this happen and I can't imagine how disappointed she must feel at herself right now. However, I am disappointed at how this situation was handled. First, the fact that a whole piece of a cockroach could make it onto a small-sized cup is simply outrageous. Second, the fact that the staff didn't have protocols to handle this type of situation was disappointing. Third, the fact that it took two calls to change from refunding a single drink to my entire order was shocking. Lastly, I am mad at the fact that I have be the one to call the store tomorrow to discuss this issue. What if I don't call? The owner and the supervisor carry on as usual and people come to Jireh assuming that their drinks are safe to drink? Why couldn't they just get my number so they can call me instead? I will call them tomorrow to discuss this issue. For the sake of awareness, I will post this on Google as well. Please check your drinks people! Update**: I called this morning and the manager picked up. She was apologetic and said that she'll talk it over with the owner. Later the owner calls me to say how sorry she was about the incident. She kept apologizing, but she never mentioned anything about what she would do to make up for it. I was appalled. Isn't it common sense to apologize first and then ask what could be done to make up for the incident? But no, she just kept apologizing. I thought the conversation was going to end with me accepting her apology. Long story short, I first asked for a small reimbursement (20 dollars to 40 dollars) to which she hesitantly agreed to. What the reimbursement was for was after the incident yesterday, my group and I went over to CVS to buy pills that will help with instances of eating a harmful bug. They were worried about potential bugs in their drinks as well. I felt that I should've asked for more but later I decided to cancel it and not accept any reimbursements. If I accepted the reimbursement, that would mean that, ethically speaking, I would need to pull the review down. I couldn't allow that. I won't tolerate this owner who has no concern about making up for such a drastic event and for customer service (in this case, customer care). read more
