Chicken & Waffles - Overall, a tasty dish. The chicken was flavorful, and the waffle was well prepared. My main critique is the ratio. There was significantly more waffle than chicken--roughly a 5:8 ratio. Personally, I prefer a 1:1 chicken-to-waffle ratio so that every bite has the perfect balance. Good meal, but the portion balance could be improved. Raspberry Latte - The highlight of the visit. The raspberry flavor complemented the coffee perfectly without being overpowering. It was smooth, well-balanced, and something I would absolutely order again. Why Not Five Stars? - The slow service. We noticed several tables in our section experiencing the same issue. One outdoor table waited a long time for drinks and didn't receive their food until we were halfway through our meal, despite arriving before us. Pro Tip: There is plenty of parking behind the restaurant, which makes visiting easy. After your meal, take some time to walk around the town. I had been told what a great spot this was for breakfast and lunch by so many people, so when a friend invited me, I couldn't wait to try it out. Since then, I've organized a few brunches with friends, and we have never been disappointed. The menu is absolutely HUGE, both for food options and beverages. Whether you are looking for a savory crepe with coffee or avocado toast with a mimosa bucket, you can get it all here. I could probably dine here every morning for a year and get something different every time! There's plenty of seating inside and outside the restaurant, and dogs are welcome for outdoor seating. (When my friend brought a frenchie she was petsitting, several employees asked if we needed water or other items for her!) There are also umbrellas for the outdoor tables for sunny mornings. Picked up the Clifton Cafe for breakfast one morning when I wanted a breakfast burrito, and found a more unique option instead with savory crepes. I got the build your own savory crepe option with two fried eggs, Gruyère cheese, extra goat cheese, spinach, extra tomatoes, and dill creama to put on top. The crepe instead of a tortilla option was definitely unique, but tasted light and went well with the ingredients I had chosen, not overpowering it at all but being the nice burrito casing it should be. The veggies were all fresh and the tomatoes were red and they actually gave me extra which was nice...most places won't add extra when you ask for it. The eggs were cooked well, though I wish they had another way of cooking them as an option for the build your own crepe, as they have scrambled eggs available for one other savory crepe. The service was great as they also added extra goat cheese inside my crepe as well as adding the two sides I paid extra for. Most places won't look at the notes and so I ordered two sides just in case, but I didn't end up needing them. They were quite generous with their extras. The creama dill sauce topped off the crepe quite well, and was a tangy, creamy addition to the meal. Their sauces had pretty decent portions, so even those like me who love their extra sauce will find one enough. You are definitely getting value for your money as the crepe was as long as my fork and super wide. IT WAS HUGE! I had to save half for later, so it was like getting two meals in one. TLDR: I highly recommend going to Clifton Cafe for your brunch needs! The food is fresh, delicious and has enormous portions, which will have you taking home a to go bag. My friend grew up in Centreville and suggested this place for a Saturday brunch. I'm happy I had a reservation, but it seemed like people were being seated fast. I ran in to grab some coffee while driving between fairfax and Woodbridge because I was starving. Parking was easy as it was an off-time in the middle of the week, but even then the restaurant and patio had a decent number of patrons. I picked up a hug in a mug and creme brulee iced lattes and then spontaneously decided to snag a cinnamon roll muffin. The crème brulee iced lattes was a 10/10 loved it. Husband enjoyed the hug in a mug when I got home, which is also when I split the muffin. It was delicious a little hard around the edges but that could have been how I heated it up. What mostly stood out to me though and why I'll be back with the whole family was the customer service. The hostess was so kind and even held the door open for me as I left with full hands. The lady who rang me up was friendly and bubbly. And the woman who brewed up the lattes was also sweet. Whoever is hiring the staff here is doing something right because they were superb. read more

The cafe itself is located in a historic house on Main Street in Clifton, and it has a lot of character. The staff was very friendly and gave us good service. And all of the crepes were delicious and served in generous portions. I tried the Chorizo and Hash and loved it. My wife tried Evan's Exotic Equation, with chicken, feta and spinach. A really regular spot that should be on your rotation. We even find it works for bringing out of towners for a small oasis of "huh - didn't expect that small town" right near the DC city aura. The kitchen is diverse enough in choices from crepes to sandwiches (where can you go wrong with a Monte Cristo), and breakfast burritos or more. Even mid-day or evening edge options are there. A few of their alcoholic drinks are simple and crisp finds. The business is located in a quaint small building - that obviously used to be a house - at some point in the distant past - based on the interior layout. Very quaint, homey ambiance. I was promptly seated and looked over the menu. I ordered the Chorizo & Hash Crepe: Chorizo, potato & onion hash, cheddar, topped w/ jalapeño sauce. I had them add an egg (over easy) to top off the crepe - and a side of bacon and coffee. I visited the coffee bar after eating to order an iced Americano with half n' half. I can't say I've ever had a crepe of any kind before. It's kind of like eating a more delicate burrito. The Chorizo & Hash stuffing was delish! The egg yolk breaking over the crepe was yummy. Place has been renovated with more space and seating. They have a beautiful back yard and parking in the back, as well as extended indoor seating and more outdoor seats in the front. I normally don't update reviews, but I felt it was necessary since I no longer feel that Clifton Cafe is anywhere near 4 stars (unfortunately). Let me start with the positives. They have expanded their space and they're accepting Resy reservations, which I'm sure helps with controlling the crazy influx of breakfast/ brunch goers, especially on weekends. And for the most part, their young staff is friendly and helpful. However, last time I visited and sat at the bar, you could hear some passive aggressiveness going on behind the bar. That was unprofessional and it made me very uncomfortable. I usually just get a latte and a blintz crepe. Their lattes are pretty good, but lately they've been lukewarm by the time they actually make it to the table. And unfortunately, on several visits now, their crepes have been hard and not soft and delicate as back in the day. Also, pay attention to your check. Notice in my picture how the amount changes in the tip guide from before running your card to after. May not be a big deal to some, but definitely off-putting. read more

You walk up a ramp on the right hand side of the building up to the second floor. We arrived at 12 noon for lunch with my family of five. The place was packed. No tables were available. Luckily five bar stools became available at the bar, which we seized upon immediately. At the bar I started with and enjoyed my White Christmas cocktail with vodka, kahlua, half and half, gingerbread syrup and a ginger cookie for $14. I also enjoyed my cafe Cuban sandwich with pulled mojo pork, ham, Swiss, pickles, coleslaw and mustard on ciabatta for $14. My total bill for the 5 of us was $107 excluding my cash gratuity. We loved it so much, we went back twice in one week! My husband and I decided to kick off Labor Day weekend by working from the café on Friday, and once again, it exceeded our expectations. The place was buzzing around lunchtime--maybe it was the holiday vibe, but the energy was fantastic! I couldn't resist trying the Short Rib Sandwich with Brie, and it was cooked to perfection! My husband went for the Monte Cristo, which he rated a solid 7/10. I also ordered an Almond Joyous Latte, and it was stellar. Before leaving, we grabbed a crepe to go with peanut butter and Nutella. Service was slower but they were overwhelmed with requests so we weren't upset. The price/food portions were great. I was STUFFED! Unique drink menu for coffees and each made with care. We came here last weekend and it was pretty busy, we had reservations and still waited to be sat; the weather was absolutely gorgeous so it makes sense while this place was a big hit! We were seated in a little hallway and loved the decor and ambiance of this place. It did take a while to get our orders in and the drinks took FOREVER to come out, coffee, ice tea, mimosa, espresso martini, and kids lemonades (of which we received one before asking for the second twice) but they had really fun bendy straws the kids loved! Our food seemed to take a while too, but again it was pretty busy; however, we were missing a main entree for someone and it took a while before we could flag someone down to report it. We grabbed a food runner who was apologetic and notified our server. The way they handled the mixup was great though; they kept coming back to check and see if it arrived and comped it without us asking (really good customer service as the rest of the party had already finished their food while it was still hot). I'm going to wait a bit and then try this spot again because it just has sooooo much potential but gotta make sure the kitchen slow down and mistake was a fluke and not indicative of a bigger issue/problem. read more

Such a cute local spot! I made a reservation for brunch (which I highly recommend as it looked quite busy). I got the blueberry pancakes and they were huge! A fluffy stack of pure deliciousness, but I was only able to get through half of it. The blueberry compote on top of the pancakes was sweet and the lemon zest mascarpone was sandwiched between each pancake. The flavors complimented each other incredibly well as is, no syrup needed. I got the crème brûlée latte and it was not favorite. It had a watery and thin texture and was more bitter than expected. I ordered a latte and the breakfast bowl, and my 1 year old daughter loved her turkey & cheese crepe with berries on the side. The portion sizes are great - finally a great breakfast spot that isn't overpriced! I recommend stopping in if you're in the area - or making a trip out of it to visit this historic little town! I also ordered two meals to-go and unfortunately the banana fosters brioche french toast was missing the toasted pecans and the blueberry pancakes were missing the lemon zest mascarpone. Arrived around noon on Saturday so there was a bit of a wait but never as long as the time range they say. Ordered a crepe and it came out amazing.
