I've loved great harvest for many years. It changed when new management took over but they were figuring themselves out and things are fresh again. Today, June 26 I came in to get a couple of breads to take on vacation because there's not a great harvest near my relatives in Maine and they love the bread. The older woman who was helping me was incredibly kind when I walked in. She was icing cinnamon rolls and I said those look amazing. Why don't I get two; she kindly put them in packaging and was icing them up a little more when two customers came in. one was shopping and one got in line. It was a matter of two minutes that I was in there, chatting with the older woman behind the register as she iced and put them in containers. A customer came over and started chatting with her and asked her a question so she answered them. All incredibly kind and respectful. Then one of the other employees came over. Referred to the woman as "mom" And said what are you doing? They could've just eaten those pointing to the cinnamon rolls that were sitting on the counter not in containers. She started to ring up when the older woman had already started prior to her coming over. I was seeing on the register a dollar amount. The younger woman that came over I'm assuming "daughter" told me nothing has been rung up yet. I said well the screen was showing $25. She said nothing's been rung up yet and said I'll start all over them and then when she did that the screen showed zero which was good and then she rung up my order. She continued to berate the older woman about it being busy and when I said hey, she was being really kind. It's OK. I was told "my manager told me to come over because we are getting busy.l Besides myself there were two other customers in the store. Customer service is everything and will bring people back over and over. When I told her you're being a little bit abrasive and pointed to her mom and said she was being very kind. She just kept responding with my manager told me to come over and help because we're busy. read more

In my opinion, they are expensive for what I got. I ordered a sandwich (The cost was over $12.) and the bread was not fresh. I returned it; was told that their bread is good for 4 days after it's baked. I asked why not toast it. They don't. I cannot imagine buying a sandwich from Panera's, Subway, Jersey Mike's etc and the bread being up to 4 days old. I can make that at home. I have old bread. Sorry, but the bread makes the sandwich. Admittedly carbs. I have to behave here. Parking at the mall might require some aspirin. Also this store for its size can be crowded. Yet when your bread is this good, of course that's part of the deal. If you're a fan of breads, by all means check it out. Right now inflation is affecting all industries. Was in the Burke location a while back to get some treats for a gift bag. Everything is ridiculously expensive, and NOTHING seems to have a price on it. I see a board with a list of items that seem to resemble some of the things I saw for sale so as I'm contemplating what to get based on my budget, I asked about the prices, and the guy behind the counter says those prices aren't updated so just ask him. Not updating your price list and not having price labels guaranteed to leave me having the worst shopping experience. How exactly was that exchange going to go... how much is this... ohh (thinks that's too much)... what about this... ohh.... What about that? You see where I'm going with this? I ended up getting some biscotti and bars of something for the gift and that cost $23! It was not worth $23 dollars, I don't care how delicious it may have been (It was gifted so who knows). I'm well aware we are facing inflation and everything is expensive... being a home baker my self and knowing they probably buy things in bulk.... I'm skeptical that NEEDED to be the price. The person at the cashier was rude and not customer oriented. I got with a few breads and wanted to order sandwiches since I had a long day without food. I asked if they had the big dog bones and without asking the amount went to the back and got me one, so I said I need 3 please. I asked for a sandwich order and left to ask someone to help with making the sandwiches. Every time he went to the back or me adding anything made him really annoyed with his look and tone. I hurried out thinking it was for the person behind me. With everything in my hands, never offered a bag. Waited for everyone to leave and asked to have the bread sliced but also very annoyed and rude, no one behind us. Not welcoming at all and felt like every order was a burden on him. Been a customer for over 10 years and never felt that before, once the woman with the sandwiches came to me and offered the bag she was extremely friendly and courteous which made me realize the other person was not normal behavior for treating customers. I worked there for 3 days, the boss Jeff inappropriately touched me and asked inappropriate questions that didn't pertain to the job. He thinks my ex drug addiction makes my words not legible or believable, but trust me. This is the truth. he took me places off the clock, touched my thigh in the van while we were alone. And made me so uncomfortable and scared. and he tried to "control" me in a very strange way. I was fired out of the blue, probably because he knew I knew what he was doing. Gross. Really disappointed. Went here for sandwiches, yes I understand they make bread but if you have a menu for sandwiches on your bread you should be able to make them. I have been going to Harvest Bakery in Fairfax since it opened. I am a nurse and we brought the store goods to Fairfax hospital. It was enjoyed by all, a treat. The staff are so kind. I initially came here just needing to update my review to account for the fact that they now do sandwiches all day (huzzah!), but alas, my recent visit was also only A-OK as opposed to "Yay I'm a fan" so the star rating needs to be adjusted to account for that as well. I came here on a weekday afternoon and ordered a tuna melt and the veggie harvest sandwiches. There was only one employee in the store, which is fine but made for some slow service -- both for me and my sandwich making, and the poor guy who came in after me who wasn't able to be helped at all until my sandwiches were done. The employee was friendly enough, though at least! The tuna melt was pretty good -- tons of tuna so no complaint really -- but the veggie harvest was light on the veggie and very heavy on the cheese and just kind of poorly slapped together -- the whole thing fell apart as I was unwrapping the sandwich. I think if you come during more popular times, when there is more staff present, you might have a bit of a smoother experience, but late afternoon-ish definitely isn't the time to come, even if they do make sandwiches all day now. read more

This little bakery is a gem! They are located in the ever expanding Walmart strip mall. They have another location in Lorton. When you walk in, you smell the fresh aroma of breads! The staff is eager to slice up a sample of various breads! It's a quick breakfast for me since the slices are ginormous. I stopped in his morning to pick up some King cake. They had samples to taste so I tried the King cake. It was very tasty. The King cake is boxed up in a decorative box. They are baked daily during the Fat Tuesday season. The bakery also has bins of dog biscuits. There are sizes for your big and small pooches. One of my favorite breads is their challah. It is a good size loaf and it is so fresh. If you check out their webpage, they will list their daily breads and the special ones for the week. They also carry pre-packed gift boxes that you can mail off to friends and family. read more

Came in for a turkey, avocado and cheese sandwich and walked away with a smeared guacamole, cuádruple cheese and half a turkey slice sandwich. The person making it was not properly taught how to make a sandwich it seems. Worst sandwich of my life, hands down. I went back to return it and show the manager how bad I was served and I came to find out that there was no manager on staff. No wonder the sandwich was so bad, no one in there even cared. Shame. While I have had good experiences over the years the last few visits have not been great. It used to be that you were greeted when you went in and were offered a slice of bread. Now, there are just a few teenagers socializing... sloppy packaging, no bag for multiple items, no thank you when you paid... I may be able to overlook the downslide of customer service but the quality of the product is suffering as well. On my last visit, I ordered a half dozen berry scones. Two of them only had a few small pieces of berry. A few had really large chunks of cream cheese which should have been blended in better. The scones were a bit drier than usual. The scones were packaged in a plastic box that was really flimsy. My purchase was not put into a bag so it was hard to carry without the top popping open or the whole box bending. I also asked for a loaf of apple scrapple. What they gave me looked a lot like that kind but when I went to serve it, it was just a dry loaf of bread with a brown sugar topping that all came off with the first cut. That whole loaf went to waste because it just wasn't good. This whole experience really soured my opinions on this bread shop. When I spend over $20 for four scones and a loaf of bread, it should be of the best quality... no exceptions. read more

This is the only spot so far where I would go to get a home baked good. It's tucked between and along a strip mall and is quite small, but that's okay because the baked goods make up for it and has a big taste. The bakers or workers are always so sweet and nice! If I remember, every Saturday they make special breads every morning. The apple cinnamon swirl and pumpkin chocolate chip bread are my favorite. None of the products are super sweet or bland at all, this is like carb heaven! read more

Jesse was so helpful and recommended we try the chicken salad. So glad I listened because it was AMAZING! Very expensive for two sandwiches ($18) - one of which was literally bread and turkey. That surprised me that I was charged 8 bucks for a kids sandwich. Very disappointed with my family's experience here over the weekend. I'm not one to write negative reviews, but this must be shared... This weekend I came with my husband and 12mo. Had a coupon for BOGO loaf of bread but also wanted some sandwiches to share. First I asked the young man working the register about Lorton chicken salad sandwich, which apparently Burke didn't carry, it was just residual from the menu boards having been brought over from the Lorton restaurant. After finally looking at a menu vs the boards, the menu also had Lorton chicken salad sandwich. After inquiring again, now suddenly they had the Lorton chx salad???? Next I asked for a PB&J for my 12mo, and was told "not possible" as it was on the breakfast menu... mind you no times were posted on the breakfast menu. And it's PB&J... how had is that to make???!?! Ended up with two totally different sandwiches, one of which was the hummus sandwich. DONT BOTHER! It was boring, tasteless and not worth the money. Tuna melt was good. After waiting 15 minutes for two sandwiches, when we went to leave and our breads were not even ready for us to go. Just visited today and the only reason they get 2 stars is bc the sandwiches were good, but the service was non existent. Took 25 min to get 3 sandwiches, ham, tuna and turkey. Basic stuff. When I placed order all staff looked at me like I was crazy for ordering sandwiches. Oh, I was the only customer btw. They had a 10 min discussion on which mustard to use even though I didn't get any on any of my sandwiches. After a staff meeting on the chaos my order brought, they all just walked away. Several just went to the back and the main girl who took order and started to make just went back to the register and stood there. No one said anything to me. When I asked the girl at register what was going in she just said, oh, I thought we just couldn't do it so I stopped. Why wouldn't you tell the customer standing there this???? Please teach staff customer service and menu knowledge. If you offer sandwiches, please know how to make them. Ran into another customer on my way out and she saw I was drained from experience, she said, you must have ordered food, that's why I only get bread now. Sad. I have shopped here off and on for several years. The store has gone through some transformations over that time. It used to be mostly a bakery selling bread and selected pastries but now also offers sandwiches. Their bread is very good. I like their cheddar garlic, cinnamon swirl, honey whole wheat, and dakota bread. I also like their scones especially the red, white, and blue and cinnamon rolls. Their bread is best fresh. I avoid purchasing breads that were baked previous to the day of my visit. Their bread is not inexpensive. They often offer generous samples of selected products although they don't seem to be as generous as in the past. They have any affinity program that offers free loafs of bread after previous purchases. read more
