My first experience with the cafe was back in November to try their pumpkin bagels. The staff was okay: not as friendly as I would've imagined. The cafe is almost always empty when I stop by, but I do stop by at random hours. They have plenty of tables and chairs for anyone wanting to stay and hang out. It's clean and pretty orderly. The bagels are good, but I think it's their different flavored cream cheeses that deserve the recognition. I love their jalapeno and garlic & herb cream cheese. I would prefer more jalapenos on the jalapeno cream cheese, but it's still really good the way it is. The bagels can be pricey if they are the special one. Overall, an okay experience. Been here many times, can't believe I haven't done a review. We order online to customize for quick pick up. Fam likes the bfast sandwiches, pescatarian daughter gets the Nova Lox. The ABSOLUTE WORST business ever. The most unprofessional place I have dealt with in a while. I placed an order for pickup 3 days in advance and when I showed up to pick it up they hadn't filled my order and were sold out of everything. TL;DR, this place is trash. Go literally anywhere else. This place is an absolute MESS. Not a single table was clean despite not being very busy. They give you an order number but then don't use it when letting you know your order is ready. So another customer was given our order. What's the point of the number then? I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and half of the bagel had cream cheese, luckily I ate that half first. The other half of the bagel was visibly smothered in butter instead of cream cheese. I really wanted to love Bobby's Bagel Cafe. As a celiac who is severely allergic to dairy, I have limited options when it comes to bread and especially bagels. I heard about Bobby's in a gluten free forum and decided to give them a try. When we finally found the store (difficult because there is no obvious signage (yes, this was a Chesapeake Bagel Bakery, so cross contamination beware) except for a small paper on the door. You don't even realize it's open because the lights aren't on in front and the few people that were there were sitting in darkness. The store looked like it was condemned, the bathrooms had homemade not in service signs and the floor didn't look like it had been cleaned in a while. The front had the bagel offerings and the gluten free ones were individually wrapped in plastic wrap. The person working didn't know if they were all vegan but took a guess (and based on reviews I read I knew which were). I bought two, but the pricing was ... ridiculous. Total was $9.50 for two bagels (no fillings, not toasted, just the bagels.) I can order from the mecca of gluten free bagels in New York for cheaper than that... Were they good? Yes. Would I come back? Not to this location and really only to the other two if I was out and really ill prepared and hungry. Not the type of business I want to support. read more

I tried Bobby's Bagel Cafe a couple days ago but was severely disappointed. I ordered an egg, ham, and cheese bagel and a bagel with cream cheese. After I left, I found my first bagel to be without an egg. So, I went back to have them correct that. Got the right sandwich and left. I had eaten half the sandwich when I found a hair in the egg. Although the hair is what got made me stop eating the bagel, quality wise, some of the worst bagels I have ever had. Flavor was off and they just use a microwave to heat up the egg, ham, and cheese sandwich. For a food establishment, using a microwave is just low grade. I do not recommend this place!! read more

We've been getting our bagels from Bobby's for years now, so from a bagels stand point, they are THE BEST!! but unfortunately, the staff has been very unfriendly. In our last visit, one staff member was pulled out to take our order. Their latex gloves were soaking wet from God knows what they were doing when they started to touch the bagels. The bag became wet as well as the bagels. We had to tell them we'd like them to please change their gloves and give us new bagels. This is my favorite bagel place in the state and I've been to a lot of cities in VA. Their bagels are soft and dense on the inside but offer a nice crunch on the outside. Real bagels! In NoVA. I've only ever found two other places between C-ville and Ffx that have legitimate bagels. And this is at the top of the list now. My kid flipped over the rainbow bagel but for me, I knew it was a real bagel the second I started slicing them. They give just the right amount to show they were super fresh but still had a nice chewy outer layer. The schmear was actually schmear and not just plain cream cheese with chopped things in it. My son went in to order food from this place and was the only African American in the establishment at the time and he was racially profiled. He was asked to see his receipt that he paid on numerous occasions even after getting his food to head out of the door. It's so sad that this is still happening today. This is one of two bagel places within reasonable distance from my office. That is really the only thing they have going for them. That, and their jalapeno cream cheese is tastier than most. Everything else is sub-par or worse. Their bagels are just barely a step above the kind of bagel you get at, say, dunkin donuts or starbucks. Their toaster setting is odd because if you get them regular toasted, they are barely warmed, but if you get them double toasted, they come out burned. And then we get to the biggest problem with this place - the employees. Any time I've been in, they take awhile to attend me, then when they do, seem irritated to have to take my order. They are gruff, disinterested, and so slow! They act like they're doing you a favor just by being there. If the other place was just a little bit closer to my office and had better jalapeno cream cheese, I'd never step foot in here again. read more

Ordered a toasted blueberry bagel with cream cheese and a drink for there as well as a cinnamon roll to go. There was no one in line so ordering was quick. I was standing and waiting for my order till I noticed that orders were coming out slowly for a table that was seated. I found a seat myself, wiped the sesame seeds off the table top, and read a newspaper sitting there while I waited. There was no music or ambiance of any sort except for a couple of toddler types who would squeal loudly at random times. The toasted bagel took far longer than I expected, but no big deal, I wasn't in a rush. I then waited for my drink. It seems there were 2 people working food and drink and one on the register and their process was to make all the food orders first then the drinks. Ok. Finally after getting my drink my bagel wasn't exactly hot. Nor was it very toasted. There was a good amount of cream cheese. The cinnamon roll is beautiful but very sweet. Tastes good but I was smearing the cream cheese off the bagel on the roll to cut down the sweetness. And then a family came in with young boys who were allowed to talk loudly and run around the cafe. When I was cleaning up to leave the trash was overflowing. All in all there's not much to say. The food and overall experience wasn't impressive enough to return. They did showcase a nicely presented bagel and cream cheese display to take to work or for a little party for $19.99, I may be back for that if there is ever a need. read more

My husband LOVES bagels and we are from the northeast so we are bagel snobs. This is probably the best tasting bagels we have found in the Vienna/Oakton/Tyson's areas. There is a large menu, they are well staffed and COVID protocols seem observed. It is a local small business. They offer several cream cheese options and a nice variety of bagels including my favorite...egg everything! They offer online ordering on all major platforms, have lots of seating, rest rooms and wifi. One odd note is that their sign says Oakton Chesapeake Cafe Bagel Bakery. Support this small business!
