The everything bagel was good too, except maybe a little dry. The cinnamon raisin bagel + honey maple though? Fabulous combination! The iced latte was good (strong coffee flavor). This feels like you classic bagel joint- a small ordering area and a decent seating area separated from the ordering area. That separation was welcome on a day when it was 12 degrees outside with lots of people coming in and out. Ordering is expected to be fast, don't get in line till you know what you want. There is not much left in this little strip mall, but Chesapeake Bagel, is a hidden treasure. They are open early and have good coffee and a very nice hearty breakfast sandwich with all the fixings you desire. The bagels are fresh and they have MANY varieties. Walking into this bagel deli is like walking into 1995 and I love it. It's one of the few bagel places in the DMV that has rye seeded bagels and half plain/half pumpernickel bagels. Honestly, these aren't my favorite bagels in the area but the sandwich fixings they put on them are what makes this a great place. Their bagels are more dense like a Montreal bagel so that is why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5. I am a fan of the eggwich sandwiches because the eggs are super fluffy and all of the ingredients are fresh. They are generous with the portions sizes so it's a very filling breakfast or lunch. Cream cheeses: they have a nice assortment of sweet and savory cream cheeses . Also, I like that they don't offer too many sweet bagel flavors. I'm a bagel classicist- plain, sesame, everything, rye, pumpernickel, cinnamon raisin and egg are my bagel pantheon. Other menu items: they offer focaccia sandwiches, deli sandwiches and baked pastries which all look good from what I observed from others orders. Ambiance: it's not a big place with lots of small banquettes and 4 top tables. It feels very retro 90s with the green and white floor and flat tambour. No one is hanging out with a laptop here which is nice. Most people get their brown bag order and immediately sit at a table to tuck in. The line can get long at busy times but it's worth it. Wow this place is expensive. Yes it is in McLean, and inflation is nuts right now. If you have the means, this might be okay for you. I was randomly in McLean, and it was lunch time. I randomly saw this deli, and it looked nice from outside. I wondered in and was greeted nicely by the staff. The place was so cool and had a great vibe. I looked up at the menu, trying to figure out what to order because everything looked amazing. I finally went with the "Three Cheese Roast beef" with extra mayo. Let me tell you that it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life, and trust me I've had many from all around the country and world. I also grabbed a lemon bar which was absolutely a delicious dessert. My only mistake was I forgot to grab a bag of chips, but I'm trying to eat healthier anyway. I plan to take my wife here this weekend for lunch, and we live in Maryland. I'll also ask for a little yellow mustard next time as well. Whoever owns this place really knows what they're doing. I can't for the life of me understand why it's only three stars, they must be getting some trolls that just complain all the time. The only thing CBB has going for it is the variety of bagels. They have varieties that other bagel places (looking at you, Einstein) have apparently discontinued producing, much to my sadness because I'd be happy to never patronize the Chesapeake Bagel Bakery ever again if only I could a find a bialy elsewhere. But this is not New York City, there is no H&H, bagels are not in their heyday. I'm still looking for a better bagel and will probably end up making my own. But aside from that, the "service" on a good day is surly. On a bad day, it's glowering rude. It's quite expensive for what it is, but it is in downtown McLean. There are generally two people making the food and a cashier. Lunch time and breakfast on the weekends are crowded. The actual environs are a time capsule of the early 1980s, down to the fonts on the signs. Nothing but the prices has changed in nearly forty years. It is, simply put, a dump, a place that keeps going because it requires the least amount of effort to get a passable bagel with shmear and nova. Now in COVID era, there is no UberEats or DoorDash or GrubHub option, which is very unfortunate given you're going to be forced to go in the premises and be given the stink eye yet again. They are no doubt too cheap to do anything that would reduce their customers' chances of contracting COVID given this is the place that charges extra for everything. read more

The line was nearly out the door when I got there at 11 am on Saturday, but it moved pretty quickly. My order was a simple bagel/cream cheese combo. For how busy it was, I was impressed that their system of taking orders and passing them out as they were ready (after payment most times) worked as well as it did. It was certainly chaotic, but seemed to work well enough. I had a cinnamon raisin bagel with a delicious carrot walnut cream cheese. I felt like it matched the vibe of the restaurant - no real frills but still a bit special. The decor is similar to your grandma's kitchen meets hole in the wall diner. Almost my Sunday morning tradition to stop by this bakery for some delicious bagels. Today was no exception. I scooted on in here right before they were about to close, and got me some plain bagels and donuts. For the bagels zi chose the strawberry smear and for the donuts I chose strawberry yet again! It wasn't even crowded by the time that I arrived so I was served quickly. I still haven't figured out their secret on how they keep their bagels so fresh. The food is good, but almost every single time I go there, they try to overcharge me, and the price is never the same. The lady at the register with the short cropped dark brown hair is consistently the one trying to overcharge. Today - she tried to charge me $25. (TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS) for a sandwich and a drink. I am posting this because I see teens there often, and I do not want the neighborhood kids getting ripped off. Before you read this review you must understand context. Where I go to school, there's an excellent bagel shop (Bodo's at UVA, if you were wondering) that most students will go to at least a few times a week. In coming to Chesapeake Bagel after spending a few months at school with the bagel shop there, all I could do is compare--and Chesapeake Bagel falls very, very short. Last time I came here I ordered an egg and cheese everything bagel. The egg is heated up in the microwave. I'm skeptical if it's real egg, but it actually tastes good and is really fluffy. The cheese they use is American cheese--I'm not sure if you can request other cheeses--so it's cheap, kind of plastic-y, but it melts well I guess. The bagel had good flavors but was kind of dry and not as fluffy, chewy, or moist like the bagels I'm used to. It all came around to $4/$5 bucks, and I feel like I could have made the same bagel sandwich at home for less than $1. The biggest gripe with this place is that they microwave there eggs. If your in McLean and don't want to venture up to tysons this is the only alternative for a decent bagel this is the spot. FYI.
