And even worse than that, today at approximately 1:45 the guys (Latin) wanted to have private jokes about customers, and it was quite obvious. If I was the manager, today would be there last day of employment. Giggling and whispering like school girls - their behavior was unacceptable,, down right childish. On my route to work, I decided to stop here for breakfast. The place is located in a small shopping plaza and can be easily missed. Pretty straight forward menu, walk-up counter to order and pay. They have a variety of bagels and homemade cream cheeses (e.g. jalapeno, chive, plain, etc), but the prices are hefty for a no frills bagel place. A small coffee and a bagel sandwhich (egg, cheese, ham) will run you a little less than $8! I recommend coming here if you forgot your breakfast, or its an emergency. read more

Overall very happy with Chesapeake bagel bakery for a quick bite in McLean. I'm always glad to find places to eat that aren't fast food! Chesapeake was fresh, good quality food quick. The bagels were very legit I will definitely be back for a dozen of those as well. Clean, quiet areas to eat. My turkey bacon cranberry was pretty delicious and I was happy to have something a little different. Rude service. I ordered 2 egg sandwiches on plain bagel. Halfway through making it, the guy said they are out of plain bagels. Telling me with his head down - zero eye contact. Made it hard to hear. Changed bagel type and then a basket of plain arrived. I mentioned that to him and he didnt respond. Mentioned again and he said he was making the change. I have been going here for years, for my children. There are 2 cashiers. One kind one and one extremely rude and moody one. The owners could careless so long as they can retain people. Today the moody cashier snapped at me because i said i tried to call in my order like i always do and it went into VM. If you cant handle dealing with customers and providing service then don't work with people. This is obviously a favorite spot for locals because it was a busy spot around 9:30 am... with an efficient line of people ordering from the bagel-assembly line. We chose Everything bagels with the Veggie-Lite cream cheese. I'm a huge fan of everything-bagels because they're always so flavorful, and Chesapeake took that to another level. The bagels we got were freshly made, toasted perfectly, and you could taste the onions. I was also a fan of the cream cheese choice. The smells coming out of this place are heavenly! Located just down from The Medicine Chest, this is McLean's bagel joint du jour. I've been here several times and never been disappointed. It definitely becomes Cheers-esque after a while. They bake their large stock of bagels daily. So, ya know, they're w/ the freshness. There is a LOT going on behind the counter (sign wise). Don't let it intimidate you though. Their staff is super nice and more than willing to explain what comes on what sandwich and such. I'm a big fan of their turkey bagel sandwich. Its large so be prepared to stretch your jaw. If they have a new special when I come in, I always have that. And it never disappoints. A few helpful tips: The drink fridges are right by the entrance so peruse them before you actually get in line. The line area is wee. Fountain drinks and coffee are located towards the register. Tell them whether it's a to-go order or not when you actually order. Don't want to hold up the rest of the line. Don't loiter around the day old bagel stand or pastry case. Again, wee line area. At any time of the day, you'll most likely be joined by anyone and everyone- high school students, families, grandparents, kids, the list goes on. Their breakfast bagels- the options are listed on the menus- taste less greasy and fresher than a McDonalds one. Their bagel sandwiches at lunch are also pretty good- pizza bagels, bagels with lunch meat, etc. etc. The menu is pretty clear cut and over the years they've added much to the menu- the peake bagels, foccacias, soups, etc. They also sell a variety of cream cheeses and you can pick up a cookie or a brownie at check out. A word to the wise- the staff is competent, but do keep an eye on your order- as Eric K. warns- people are easily confused and when they are done making your sandwich, they may say the type of bagel, so unless you're within earshot or are paying attention, you'll just notice bags collecting on the counter. read more

Stepping through the doors of CBB always floods me with memories of high school and running out during my free period for a bagel and smear. Not much has changed in the 10 years since I left high school. (I realize I just dated myself with that comment.) Same good variety of bagels, smears, and sandwich toppings. Want a pizza bagel? Coming right up! Want a bacon, egg and cheese? You got it! They also have wraps and salads too so you have options when you come here. I've never tried any of the pastry items that they offer, though some of them have been tempting. This place gets pretty hoping on the weekends and after school. I have been going here for years, particularly as a kid. The pizza bagels are amazing, as are their egg sandwiches, and if you grew up here you are probably going to run into someone you know. I like the giant gumball machine in the seating area too. My enjoyment of their bagels is balanced out by the annoying parking lot, long lines, and loudness of the place. It can be very hard to communicate with the staff making your bagel because it is so loud and the line area is very narrow and you end up bumping butts with the people who are trying to pour their sodas. Between the parking lot and the lines, coming here isn't really that convenient, it is more of an ordeal. Also great are the giant cookies served up by the cash register. Yum! read more

Next surprise, 1 jelly, an assumed free item, is 15 cents extra. I have never seen any restaurant charge for an item of this nature. I grew up near bagel heaven (NYC) and so I rarely eat bagels away from home. This place is OK--I happen to favor Brooklyn Bagel or the other Chesapeake location in Arlington better--but this place is closer to home and pretty convenient. Try the light veggie cream cheese---I like the flavor and it's just as creamy as the full calorie version. I agree, the staff is a bit aloof and the location doesn't seem as lively as the Arlington location which always has a line and is full of families eating in the boothes--but hey, I appreciate a lil quiet on Sunday mornings too. read more

CBB reminds me of a time-honored neighborhood institution that wouldn't be anything special but still gives the warm and fuzzies because it has been one of your stomping grounds for as long as you can remember. On any given day, you'll find the place packed with young mothers juggling small children, high school students acting proud because there were their own source of transport and retired couples enjoying a quiet cup of coffee. CBB lacks the 'spanking-new-aren't-we-hip' vibe but is no less welcoming. It's not one of those shops that encourage you to park for hours absorbed in your laptop (there is no wife or copies of the daily paper). Instead, it's one of those places where people simply come to chat and enjoy a decent bite. The bagels are freshly baked and can be ordered alone or in sandwich form with a variety of fillings. I'm partial to the veggie bagel (which I usually get with a sun-dried tomato bagel), which is filled with hummus, sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. The foccacia sandwiches are also worth a mention - those can be ordered with egg and sausage should you want a breakfasty item anytime of the day. So disappointed in the Eggwich. I was just out of the hospital and went for an outing and a protein fix. I ordered it without any additional stuff, and boy was I surprised to taste the "eggs". No flavor, and I sensed they had used liquid eggs. I asked if they used real eggs and was told "liquid eggs" so my suspicion was confirmed. I am not a complainer, but I gave the feedback that the egg was not good. My guess is that so many people doctor it up with meat or cheese or whatever that it hides the very bland taste. Located in a strip mall, and decor is unassuming, however we are here for the bagels! Sunday morning before the rush is best. I've stopped by here a couple times because my niece loves their sandwiches. For me I've had much better elsewhere. Their bagel sandwiches are a little too hard (dry) to be considered fresh. It's the kind of texture from being refrigerated. I saw that their egg portion of the sandwiches are microwaved from a liquid out of a bottle instead of being actually cooked on a grill. Chesapeake Bagel has always been overpriced -- bagels are fine but bagel sandwiches are mediocre at best. This morning I asked for cream cheese on the side for my bagel to go. Bagel is $1.45; with cream cheese it's $3.25 so almost $2 for a side of cc. I asked them to fill the tiny plastic container and she said it's one scoop only!! Super small gem located in downtown McLean. I've probably passed this place a bunch of times and never noticed it. Went in on a Saturday morning right before noon and it was fairly busy. The counter/checkout area is small and located as soon as you enter. I will say, if you don't know what you want, step aside while looking at the menu because there are many options! I purchased an eggwich bagel there on Friday, and 6 hours later I had a terrible bout of food poisoning. I know it was from the bagel because I had nothing else that day. While in the restaurant I saw lots of dirt and grime on the floors and counters, as well as dirty dishrags hung above the food and the juice machine. This deli is very close to my home, and although I have had numerous bad experiences with curt staff and incorrect orders, I still found myself giving them another chance based on their proximity. Never again. Mid-day on a Saturday, my girlfriend and I walked through the parking lot to the front door, when a massive SUV comes within one foot of hitting us. I asked the driver to slow down and be careful, as he almost hit us, when the driver calls me a "F***tard" and tells me to "go back into my garbage can" which I can only assume is a judgement based on my physical appearance. We continue into the restaurant, wait in line, and are mid-way through ordering, when a loud voice from the back of the restaurant starts literally screaming, "Look who it is! And I'm the owner!" It was the man who almost hit me with his car and cursed at me outside. He continued to yell at me from across the room as every customer inside stared. There is no way I am giving my business and my money to a man who is so unbelievably rude and outrageously hostile to customers. I absolutely loveeee the bagels here. And what I love the most is the WHOLE WHEAT EVERYTHING bagel. I think the reason I love it so much is because they put salt (kosher salt/like on a pretzel) on it. Yum, yum, yum. I get the whole wheat EVERYTHING bagel with plain, VEGGIE, or CHIVE cream cheese with LOX. Definitely my go to :) They have some baked goodies/little treats that appear to be homemade and look amazing. I need to try them one day. They also have egg bagels (yum - hard to come by at most bagel places). But I wish they had egg everything bagels (the holy grail of all bagels, a rare find!) The line can be long-ish on a weekend morning, which is to be expected. Just pay attention and be prompt with your order. Lots of neighborhood Mclean peeps hang out here.
