I love grabbing lunch at Sweetleaf when I'm working in the McLean office. The restaurant has a cute beachy vibe, and the outdoor seating is perfect on a nice day. The only downside is the limited parking, which can be a bit inconvenient. (The restaurant is also located on a one-way street so that sucks a bit)! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. My favorite dishes are the Steak Chimichurri and the Big Fin Salad. The steak can be a little tough at times, but the chimichurri and corn make it delicious. The Big Fin Salad is another solid choice with grilled salmon and crispy parmesan crisps. Today I tried the Spicy Avocado Salad and customized it with basmati rice, cherry tomatoes, and avocado ranch. The avocado was perfectly ripe, and the tomatoes were super refreshing. However, the tortilla chips were a bit stale, and I wasn't a fan of the cilantro-lime vinaigrette. The avocado ranch definitely made the dish more enjoyable. I probably wouldn't order this salad again, but I'm still excited to try more items from their menu!! read more

I'm a big fan of Sweet Leaf, and this McLean location never disappoints! In my opinion, they offer even better salad options than some of the bigger chains. The portions are always generous, especially the steak in both the Steak Taco Salad and Steak Bowl. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, and the smoothie was incredibly fresh too. I was very disappointed in the taste, the service and the quality of the food. I had the Chicken Barley soup and it was luke warm at best, with not much taste. This is an easy going place. McLean can be snooty, but you won't find that here. Instead a friendly staff, who make their guests feel welcome. This is a casual spot to get lunch or dinner. They have a variety of sandwiches, and you won't leave hungry. Generous portions and quality mesh together. Parking is occasionally a challenge. Definitely try one of their salads or bowls. They are healthy. Seating is very comfortable. This is a chill place for a meal. Prices for the area are reasonable. My only problem is struggling to avoid the dessert menu. Compared to other national chains, I actually think Sweetleaf's salad bowls are better. They are mixed with a nice combination of ingredients. For example, I like the flavor of Citrus Sesame Chicken Bowl that combines chicken and orange slices to provide some sweetness to the salad. While Sweet Greens and Chop't boast more toppings, the turmeric rice at Sweetleaf is bursting with flavor! The fresh pesto dressing is divine. The Falafel Tzatziki always hits the spot with pickled onions, fresh crispy pita chips, house-made falafel, cucumber, cabbage, kale, and topped with Tzatziki dressing. The Caprese sandwich is a disappointment - too salty with an overload of black pepper. When I ordered UberEats and paid extra to add avocado and roasted red peppers, those toppings were omitted. The smoothies are skimpy on the fruit and only use 2% milk. After a few sips, my hubby threw out the smoothie. The cookies & brownies look appetizing, but are sometimes stale. Except for the fact that I checked my receipt, I perhaps would not noticed. Both times I've been there I've been treated terribly by staff. The first time, they let somebody cut me in line because they knew them and then ignored me while I waited with my food to check out. In general they seemed very annoyed by my presence and had a mean expression. The second time, I thought I would place a pickup order and that would help. It did not. I arrived 15 minutes after placing it and they hadn't even looked at the ticket. There was nobody ahead of me. I waited for 20 minutes and they never made it! Said they were "cleaning" the machine which is not a valid excuse whatsoever. They made me very late to a medical appointment because of this. The cashier was rude to me when I tried to confront her about the wait and insisted it wasn't her fault and i was talking to the wrong person... so i asked to speak with the manager and she at first refused to come out and talk to me until my mom had to shout to her to come out from the back. She was extremely unprofessional and nasty and ROLLED HER EYES at us. i literally only ordered a smoothie and i ended up having to get a refund because they essentially said they wouldn't make it. This was early in the morning so there is no reason for their blender to be dirty or for them to wait to clean it or for it to take 20 minutes... sounds like a lot of bs because they didn't feel like prioritizing my pickup order. i'm not sure what i did to deserve that treatment twice in a row but it was extremely hurtful and humiliating and i ended up hungry without food. never eating there again. read more

I stopped by for lunch a couple weeks ago and go their Sabroso bowl and their Harvest bowl which was out of this world good. I was kind of in the mood for something filling cause I had just gotten out of my yoga class and knew I didn't have time to grab any food for dinner. I ate the Harvest bowl as my late breakfast/lunch, it was unexpectedly filling. The avocado and quinoa really pack some protein and compliment the egg and pesto dressing really well. Once I got home that night and propped up in front of the tv, I finally dug into my Sabroso bowl. It was just as good or even better than the Harvest bowl. Packed with chicken, corn, avo, turmeric rice and a jalapeno caesar, this was such a perfect combo. The only downside was the salad bread, by the time I got home it was soggy. Service is hilariously bad. The other day I came in to get a smoothie while my husband and baby waited in the car. I stood at the counter. Nothing. I waited. Nothing. There were staff people there making food but no amount of trying to get their attention worked. After 5 minutes, I finally left without ever having to spoken to anyone. I've been many times now bc the food is quite good and it's the closest food place to my house but every time I feel a pit in my stomach knowing I'll have another surly staff encounter as if I am inconveniencing them by being there in the first place. The salads are huge and very filling, I feel like I get value for my money because I often have enough leftovers for another meal later in the day. My favorite sandwiches are the Koo Koo Roo and the San Remo! The grain bowls are also really good, I like the tzakiki one best. This last time I went however there was a hair in my salad which was disappointing, so maybe the use of hair nets would be something the employees might consider. But this doesn't completely take away from the cafe as I'm sure it's happened almost everywhere, and out of the many years I've come this is the only time it's happened. Came here for lunch with a friend who lives in the area. She had been here various times and recommended it for a good, healthy lunch option. It is kid friendly and casual which was necessary for us. They had high chairs readily available. Per my friend's recommendation, I got the San Remo salad which had grilled chicken, avocado, cheese, and tomato. I really enjoyed it and the portion was definitely big enough for leftovers. My friend went with the Santa Fe Salad with chicken which looked tasty as well. The ordering bar is also disorganized. You can't see all the ingredients at once while you are going down the line. My new favorite lunch place in McLean. I love all the fresh and healthy choices for a salad. The pesto vinaigrette dressing is amazing. Best salad dressing I've ever had. My husband loves all the sandwiches, especially the Koo Koo Roo - melted sandwich on the most delicious freshly baked bread. Freshest sandwich I have ever tasted in my life!!! A friend of mine introduced me to Sweet Leaf. As you can see, they have the most freshest ingredients you can possibly find in any sandwich shop. Even the employees were wearing "Straight Outta Farm, " and they were darn right about that. Their price is very reasonable and the portion is pretty decent. Are here for lunch on Saturday at around 1pm. Surprisingly, there wasn't a line so we got seated and ordered 3 different salads. My favorite item on the menu is the Cobb salad and sometimes I get it with grilled chicken if I am hungry. I think for the most part, it's a pretty solid salad bar to go to if you are in the area.
