The workers were super friendly and gregarious and my order of the chorizo sandwich and dulce de leche were really tasty. First time here today and I got to meet the chef, who is incredibly nice! I wasn't expecting much from the outside but am so glad I dropped in. I bought a quince pie and an alfajore, both excellent. Also it's cute in there, and they have cappuccinos and espressos. I will definitely be back, and I'll take some pics of the space next time! An Argentine bakery opened in 2011 with Argentine pastries, sandwiches, bread, empanadas, milanesas, and drinks. They are located in an old Days Inn hotel. The exterior of the hotel needs repairs and paint. My wife and I visited to try their Argentine food. We got 9 items. 1) Beef Empanada It had lots of seasoned ground beef in freshly made dough that was baked. It came with a small condiment cup of chimichurri. The chimichurri had oil, vinegar, parsley, oregano, garlic, and salt. It tasted like Italian dressing. This empanada was one of the best tasting that we have had in a long time. The freshness and seasoning were excellent. The beef was moist and savory with flavors of salt, pepper, cumin, garlic, onion, oregano, and sweet paprika. The shell was soft and a little stretchy. This is the one to get! All of the empanadas came with chimichurri. 2) Ham & Cheese Empanada It had little cubes of ham, brie cheese, onions, and basil. It was too salty with no counterbalance in flavor. The cheese was the culprit. Otherwise, it'd be okay. The shell was like a puff pastry. Flaky, slightly chewy, and moist with a white bread taste. 3) Chicken Empanada It had ground chicken, onions, garlic, salt, and pepper. There were no olives or egg as described in the menu. It was too simple tasting. The shell was the same as the ham & cheese. 4) Factura w/dulce de leche A dulce de leche filled croissant like pastry called medialuna. The filling was moderately sweet with a slightly burnt milk flavor. It was unappealing. Medialunas are different from croissants. The dough has egg, more sugar, and less butter. It is denser, chewier, and breadlike with a flaky exterior. It tasted fine. 5) Factura Medialuna A vanilla cream filled medialuna. The pastry shell was the same as above. The cream filling was mildly sweet with a light vanilla flavor. Good texture and so-so taste. The name is confusing. 6) Factura with pastry cream A danish with vanilla pastry cream. The cream was the same as above. The danish was flaky, airy, slightly sweet, and typical. The pastry was covered with a sticky sugar glaze that was moderately sweet. It was better tasting than the Factura Medialuna. 7) Factura with quince jam A danish with slightly sweet quince jam. The jam tasted like green apple and green anjou pear with a touch of citrus. It had the same glaze as above. This had more flavor than the vanilla cream. 8) Pepas It came in a bag of 10 cookies topped with a small dollop of chewy quince paste. The cookie tasted like a mildly sweet sugar cookie with a texture like shortbread. The quince had a hint of sweetness and citrus flavor. Edible and forgettable. 9) Cappucino The coffee was a medium roast that was smooth and not bitter. It was made with cream, so it was rich and didn't need sweetening. The coffee roast was wrong, but it tasted fine. The service was polite, responsive, quick, and helpful. They speak limited English, so knowing Spanish would be helpful. An employee used a translation app on her smartphone to figure out our questions and to answer back. The dining room was old but clean. There was no restroom for customers.They have a free parking lot. The food appeared to be authentic, but authentic doesn't mean good. Ever try sannakji, balut, or casu marzu? Sannakji is a Korean dish of live small octopus. Chew well because they're slimey and active. Balut is a Filipino dish of soft boiled duck egg with a fetus inside. Beak, bones, and feathers included. Casu Marzu is sheep's milk cheese rotted with live maggots. The live maggots are eaten with the cheese. Change would be better than authentic. This bakery can keep the authentic and expand to better tasting food. None of the food was bad. They were made well with flavors that could be improved. The beef empanadas are worth another visit, and I would be willing to try something else. read more

High expectations, major let down. Disappointing to enter an Argentine bakery to find only one beef empanada available. Purchased the one beef along with spinach and chicken. $8 a piece is pretty overpriced. First bite revealed raw dough under the crust- absolute let down given i was hungry on the go to find it inedible without further cooking it at home. Dough was much too thick and tasted like premade Pillsbury dough. Bland flavoring, suppose this is why they give you a picante tomato based sauce of sorts to accompany it. Will continue to go to El Patio in MD when I'm wanting an authentic, flavorful, crisp and light crusted empanada. read more

The hours online were different than the hours in actuality. I know because we got kicked out about half an hour after arriving. :( The empanadas were really tasty. As vegetarians, we had the two non-meat options and both were good. They were good enough that, as we were being shooed out, I ordered six more for take-and-bake. The pastries I tried were okay. It wasn't that they were bad. I think for what they are, they are good, but they're just not my preference. The cookie part of the cookie sandwich was crumbly and the caramel stuffing was too sweet. I suspect that people who are familiar with this style of pastry will love it though. The coffee was surprisingly expensive. For one 6-ish oz latte, I paid $4.50. Even for DC-area coffee, that's pretty pricey by volume. It was well-made though and tasted good. read more

Tango Pastry has quickly become one of our favorite spots, and each visit makes us love it even more. As a Tucumano, I can confidently say their sándwich de milanesa is on point--just like home! I can't get enough of their toasted medialunas with ham and cheese, and they always make my capuchino with that perfect dulce de leche trim when I ask. It's those little details that make this place special. The service here is top-notch--10/10 every time. Patricia always greets us with a warm smile and already knows us and our kids by now, which makes every visit feel like we're visiting family. Today, we enjoyed the amazing food and a couple of beers while sitting outside. We're so lucky to have Tango Pastry close by, and we hope they keep thriving. We'd love to see a tablita option--maybe a couple of empanadas on it, some diced picada items like cheeses, olives, bread, and salami. And how about some peanuts served with the beer? I tried this place yesterday and have to say I was quite impressed! This place is located next to a hotel. The inside is super cute! They have a place for sugar and creamer for your coffee. The decorations are so cute and gives the place a nice atmosphere. Also the restroom is actually located in the hotel, so you have to ask for a restroom key and go into the hotel to use the restroom. I loved the cappuccino and mini alfajores! The cappuccino was strong so I had to add sugar because I like my coffee on the sweet side. The mini alfajores were super delicious. They were not too sweet but with the coffee it tasted super good. As for the empanadas, I enjoyed the chicken and beef one quite a bit. The beef and chicken had such a great flavor. The spinach and cheese I did like but sadly it got cold quick. The breading of the empanada I feel like could be more flavorful as well. Overall I did enjoy my experience here. I would come back for coffee and pastries but I'm not so sure about the empanadas. I would definitely recommend to check this place out at least once read more

Such a cute, cozy bakery with a surprisingly large selection of delightful, delicious Argentine treats (lots of different facturas/pastries, empanadas, coffee, sandwiches, pizza, etc.) topped with warm and friendly service! :) The daily special latte I ordered (Tango Latte) was delicious! It was perfectly milky and strong and had dulce de leche, which was a pleasant surprise. The empanadas were freshly made and packed with filling and flavor - the beef one was my personal favorite. There were so many different pastries (facturas) to choose from, and the staff there was so nice and patient answering all of our questions. The alfajores tasted like a shortbread cookie sandwich with delicious caramel filling (not too sweet, which I liked) and was a perfect afternoon treat. The price was also very reasonable for the quality. The interior was cute, clean, and comfortable. I will definitely be back and have already recommended this place to some friends. read more

This establishment is the definition of looks being deceiving. Its situated next to a days inn (actually it looks like its a part of it), and you literally have to be looking for it in order to be able to find it. Im pretty sure I had the best butter croissant I've ever had in my life here. The pastry selection here is real, and you can see the bakery right behind the cashier/coffee station. Back to the croissants, as I was standing there someone from the back brought out a tray of them. There were the regular butter croissants that were seated next to chocolate ones, on the same tray. Imagine a soft, buttery, flakey croissant, with a light sweet glaze on top. Almost like a glazed donut, but nowhere near as messy or unhealthy. Perhaps I just imagined it, or maybe its because they were on the same sheet as the chocolate ones. Anyhow, im a huge fan and encourage others to give this place a shot. I was born and raised in Argentina. I can assure you this is authentic Argentinean Pastries, empanadas, and all the delicious food they have on the menu. I live in NC and it's difficult to know such a wonderful place like this. Authenticate. So, every time I come to visit some friends or on my way to NY is a must-stop! I emailed Sandra some days before my arrival. Everything was ready and fresh. The staff is super friendly. I ordered to go: two fugazzetas pizzas (the ones with onions) and put them in my fridge. A dozen of empanadas. 24 sandwiches de miga (ham & cheese) and request 12 more in different flavors. 2 pies. A dozen of pastries (facturas), alfajores, and probably I'm forgetting something else. Tango Pastry is a small, unassuming Argentinean bakery, attached to the Days Inn off of Richmond Highway. They have a pretty extensive menu, being a small bakery/cafe - facturas, various pastries, alfajores, cakes, breads, a brunch menu, and what they're famously known, empanadas. We ordered a small box of various cookies/pastries - mini tarts filled with quince, alfajores, a little chocolate cookie bomb, and a glazed sweet croissant; all were the perfect amount of sweetness (which was not too sweet); the shortbread-like parts of the cookies were tasty, and all were fluffy and not dried out. Emapandas fillings include chicken, corn and cheese, ham and cheese, beef, tuna, spinach, and onion and cheese. We chose all, except for the tuna. The empanada shell is made with puff pastry, and all come generously filled. The hubs enjoyed the ham and cheese the most, while I really enjoyed the spinach one (tasted like spanakopita!). Ms. Sandra, who helped us, was very welcoming and very sweet! She explained all of the pastries/desserts in the case. Definitely a good number of people dining in as well as picking up pre-orders. This is a cute little shop that's right next to a Days Inn hotel. They have pastries, pizza, sandwiches, and even coffee and hot chocolate. I got a chicken empanada and that came with chimichurri on the side and it was tasty. Probably one of the best empanadas I've had here in the DMV. Time and time again, Sandra and the Tango Pastry team outdo themselves. Not only are they quick to respond to any questions on the phone or email, but they also deliver! (On a certain day, but how convenient is that??) It can be tricky to spot from the road, because it is attached to the Days Inn. But let me tell you, don't let appearances fool you. This may be the best Argentine bakery and mini-restaurant in the DMV area. (this is because I have yet to find one that's closer and better, and yes that is taking El Patio in MD into consideration). Tango bakery gives you larger portions, better quality, and better prices. My go-to will forever be un sándwich de milanesa and order una docena de facturas (a dozen Argentine pastries). Not only is that sandwich heavenly, but you really can't finish it in one sitting because of how big it is (well I wouldn't recommend it because leftovers are just as good to have for later). This time around, I ordered 2 dozen sandwiches de miga (aka crust-less finger sandwiches) to take back with me for the holidays and WOW. 15/10. Literally size and taste does not compare to El Tango's. I didn't get to take a picture of those before we all ate them, but here are some of the facturas fresh from the morning I picked them up. Went here on a friend's recommendation. I had the chicken, ham & cheese, and spinach empanadas. Tasted really great. The empanada shell was not too thick and was flaky. I also tried the pastry call pañuelito with dulce de leche filling on top. Not to sweet and the dough was spongy. My only complaint was they did not have choripan (sausage sandwich). Fantastic empanadas and pastries! I like the beef empanada the best but they are all delicious. They gave great catering options as well.

This hole-in-the-wall is attached to the Days Inn building which is much easier to spot on the street than the bakery itself. You order at the counter and either dine-in or take-out after that. *Milanesa a la Napolitana sandwich: This is the most intense sandwich I've eaten in my life. There is a large portion of fried breaded meat between two pieces of bread. The bread was not particularly special but it's all about the filling. There was also an over-easy fried egg inside which made things quite goopy and rich. Do not attempt to eat this by yourself unless .. I don't know, if you've been fasting all day?? If you're not a heavy eater, even sharing this among two people could be a struggle. *Empanada: We ordered beef & chicken. The beef one was a tad dry and the seasoning was .. not very flattering for the beef IMO. Sort of added an odor to the beef rather than enhancing the flavor. The chicken empanada was marginally better but the meat seemed dry. *Facturas: We ordered the dulce de leche one. This was absolutely magical. A croissant-like puff pastry with a delicious filling, and great dough texture. *Alfajore: We ordered the large dulce de leche one. The dough is a crumbly shortcake and the filling again was quite delicious. Sweet without being over-the-top. Overall I have concluded that Tango Pastry excels in sweet items. Other than the milanesa (which is delish but quite a heavy dish here and not something I can eat regularly anyway), I would skip the savory items. Warning: there was a language barrier with the lady at the counter. Despite being very sweet & friendly and being able to take basic orders, she could not answer my questions about the food with me not speaking Spanish. Luckily, the fellow customers in the store were super friendly and helped translate to Spanish for us, so keep this in mind if you visit and aren't Spanish speaking. What a gem! This place is connected to a very u attractive hotel in a very odd spot, but I guess it helps them keep the prices low on the goods. Service was SO warm inviting friendly and helpful. I got a handful of goodies to try since they were all new to me. I think mostly fracturas as well as got the Alfajores. Some had dulce de lèche inside, vanilla custard in some, quince jam, some coconut, one with cinnamon. The yellowish vanilla custard was my fave but most were good. I was looking for a bakery that would make a chocotorta, a tiramisu-like no-bake cake that is usually homemade. My Argentine husband and I were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary and after the insane pandemic year we have gotten through, I wanted a fancy chocotorta like the one at our wedding. As a native Argentine, I've been hard-pressed to find authentic Argentinian food in Virginia, so I was delighted when I stumbled upon Tango Pastry during my recent visit to the D.C. area. This place is very warm and inviting. The food is seasoned well enough so if you need a little more salt you can add it yourself. I love the fact that you have choices. The milanesa was really perfect napolitano style. Perfectly thin steak with a little tomato sauce and cheese and ham. Empanadas are a perfect little purse of delicious filling. We used to love this place. We would go every weekend for sandwiches and pastries. But since they changed the owner everything has changed. Prices go up every week and quality is going down. We found this little gem! Definitely best Argentinian bakery in town. They serve amazing pastries. My favorite was the Dulcedeleche factura! Amazing savory pastries as well. The empanadas are amazing! We had beef, chicken corn and their special Asado (steak) empanadas. The chicken melanesa was deliciously cheesy and so well seasoned. The chef personally thanked us for coming. He is from Argentina, worked around the world and is now bringing a little piece of Argentina to Alexandria. I 100% recommend you all to stop by! read more
