LOL Do not come here looking for grub (or planning to order just one dish) if ur hungry but theres something abt the meager portions that adds to the vibe. The vibe being a school gymnasium where theyd host a post church lunch or somethin. The beers are delicious and the servers are all super friendly and conversational. I will always freak on a weird vegan sausage here. Just laughing again looking at this lentil soup w the sausages chopped in.... It looks like something i would have made at home and it kind of tastes like it too but i'm not mad about it? I have yet to try the pretzel, but am curious how it compares to black forest's (which i very much enjoy)

Cute German restaurant with outdoor seating. They have a decent selection of German beers on tap and the typical staples on their menu plus a few fun items such as LKW. We tried the Wiener Schnitzel, with potato salad, Le Presidente, and Truffle fries. The schnitzel was tad dark and the potato salad was rather sweet. The sandwich and the fried were great, though the sandwich isn't the most filling thing. Would be back for snacks and beers!

I love this spot conceptually--it is in a great location, spacious, and with a great concept and vibe--who doesn't love a Biergarten? It is decently executed and I want to also love it in practice. But it is a tad frustrating spot to visit--sure the frisson of a beer in a giant stein in fun, but the selection is limited and the prices kind of insane, even given the size of the pour. The food is also a bit disappointing--fine on its own but, again--given the price and the disappointing size of the platters, a bit disappointing. Service also kind of runs painfully slow at times. I mean, everything here seems up my alley--I love this neighborhood, I love German food and I adore a good Biergarten--and yet I always leave here a tad underwhelmed, feeling as if I had been charged for an extra round of drinks, and just generally wishing a more interesting establishment was in this prime spot.

We've always had a lovely time doing meetups here with different walks of life. Close to major transit lines (C train and the Barclays/Atlantic Ave stops). The Bavarian pretzel is great, the spaetzel mac and cheese sounds better in theory than in reality though. Their strudel is the stuff of dreams, and apparently the ice cream is home made in-house? Score!

This spot & Radegast Beer Hall are my top spots in NYC for traditional German-style "pils". Only - Radegast pretty much always has the same taps, & here & DSK, they are rotating, so you get to try different & obscure ones that are unlikely to be available anywhere else in the city. AND - they are very fresh, & all have their own special glasses. For this alone - an easy 5 stars. If they were open for lunch, I wld be here much more often, but they don't open until 3pm during the week. The food is VERY traditional German style - which means it's not good lol. Brown sauce w no flavor. It really does taste like food in Germany tho - they are nailing it (!). There are tons of good places to eat around here tho, so I wld just enjoy their incredible & amazing rotating traditional German tap selections & maybe a pretzel, & then eat somewhere close by. Very friendly, helpful, & courteous staff. Also - the music cld be better - no one at mid-day wants to hear house music !

DSK is a great go to for Pretzels and Beers. The sister restaurant to our local Hasenstuble, DSK is much bigger. They have a full draft selection, sausages for carnivores and vegans alike. The vibes are good, and it's a great place for groups. The bar is well-lit and there is a foosball table. Seating is mostly picnic tables and some window seats. Our toddler loves it and can slip under the radar as it's pretty lively inside.

1/1 Ambience; 1.5/2 Food; 1/1 Service; 0.5/1 Value The restaurant is nice and spacious and has a fun atmosphere for hanging out with friends and grabbing drinks. The offerings are traditional German foods and beers, although the menu is extensive with many non-alcoholic offerings. The service was very fast and efficient. We were famished and ended up ordering a ton of food: the pretzel with obadza, the spaetzle, the kartoffelsalat, fries, various wurst with cabbage and sauerkraut, and German soft drinks. The pretzel and obadza was the standout, and everything was mostly great. I opted for the vegan smoked apple and sage wurst, but it was a bit bland. My friends got the classic bratwurst and they really enjoyed theirs. Given the portion sizes, some items run on the pricier side. However, we absolutely devoured the food and ended up in a food coma, which probably suggests it's worth returning to.

I had a group dinner here for my parents and my boyfriend's mother to meet for the first time. This is perhaps not the perfect location for this type of thing, as it was extremely loud in the restaurant. Despite being very busy, the hostess made sure we had a comfortable table to sit at and were not too cramped. As expected, the beer selection is great and I enjoyed my Berliner Weisse very much. I ordered the goulash and kasespaetzle. The goulash was rich, well seasoned and filling. The spaetzle was soft and creamy, covered in lots of flavorful aged cheese with salty bacon bits and sweet onion. A very rich dish. Although I didn't technically order an entree, I still found myself pleasantly full at the end of the meal. The rest of my dining companions ordered either the schnitzel or the wurstplatte. All seemed very pleased with their food, and some even had leftovers to bring home due to large portions. This restaurant is certainly a fun spot to come, reservations recommended. There's a reason they've been open for so long.

I wasn't in the mood to beg for drink service and I was also at "hangry" levels. Left out of there and I walked into Black Forest Brooklyn. Best decision I had made all day. It was cozy and dimly lit inside. The atmosphere was more like a pub than the usual loud, beer garden. They also had The Knicks game showing on the big screen at the bar but this place wasn't spilling over with people. I asked for a menu and decided on a burger of course! Out of pure greed, I requested a double. I did NOT need a double. My burger was sooo good. Patties were perfectly well done and the cheese was smooth and melted nicely. The sautéed onions added extra flavor and I really liked the shoestring fries. I'm more of a steak fries person but these were great! I asked the bartender to suggest a beer that had a Blue Moon quality since they don't actually serve that brand. She gave me a sample of something from the tap that was on point, so I went with a full glass. Whenever I'm craving the perfect burger and beer combo, Black Forest Brooklyn will be at the top of my list from now on.

Most of you are probably tired of me reviewing biergartens, ja?…read more This is going to be my last one for some time. Thankfully, what a good way to go out on. The food here is delicious. The prices are on the higher side, but I guess I am paying Williamsburg conveniences. This is terrific food outside of the Rhineland, and since that is where I am headed at the end of the year, at least I am going out on a high note. Phase I: The Pretzel As you may have guessed, getting a pretzel is a must for me for any biergarten or microbrewery. The pretzel is super soft and easy to eat. I asked afterwards if I could get a pretzel with no salt or if the pretzels here are pre-salted. I could have gotten it with no salt if I chose. That is probably the way to go, unless you want your mouth to taste like an ocean. Phase II: The Meat This time I found a happy medium, settling for three sausages. I got a Bratwurst, a Currywurst, and a Keisewurst, better known in Europe as the Käsekrainer. All three sausages are smoked beautifully and have amazing flavor. The Currywurst is something I had never had before, but after having it here, I am very excited to have it in Germany. The Käsekrainer is a sausage I know all too well. A pork sausage with cheese inside. This sausage checks all the boxes in terms of flavor, spice because of the jalapeño interior, and variance as it crosses American and European palettes. The Bratwurst is tried and true, albeit the safe choice, like getting a hamburger at McDonald's or Burger King. I also got a side order of fries which are massive, but also have great flavor. I could not finish these. The sausages also come with sauerkraut, something I am not a fan of, but the mustards I got plus a nice cider really took this over the top. Phase 3: The Strudel While disappointed that this restaurant does not offer a Black Forest Cake, a strudel with vanilla gelato is a nice alternative. This restaurant does it well. Perfectly cooked. A nice sweetness from the fruits and the gelato (combine the gelato with the strudel and the taste is heavenly), and you have a nice way to end your meal. -- The fact that it is not far from the L train helps in terms of convenience, but I chose the more challenging footing and walked 20 minutes to Marcy Ave on the J/M/Z to really burn off the calories. Or you could just go to the Williamsburg Bridge and walk across the whole thing to really get your post meal workout in. Either way, the food here is so good you will eat so much of it that you have to work off the calories. Danke.

In a few months, I plan on taking a trip to Germany. I need a dress rehearsal for certain…read moreBiergarten restaurants that offer Bavarian sausages, beer, pretzels, and other offerings so my stomach is ready for what is to come. Black Forest in Cobble Hill delivers. I divided my meal into three stages, the Wurst (German for sausage) stage, the Chicken (American for chicken) stage, and the sweet (flavorful, the opposite of savory) stage. You should do this too, unless you want to spend three hours in the washroom (or toilet, the European way of saying bathroom). Wurst Weisswurst is a sausage I had been wanting to get outside the home for a while now. It is a white sausage that is served with mustard and pretzels. Unlike other sausages, it is not grilled, but boiled and then served in hot water, where then the skin of the sausage is peeled and then eaten in one of three ways: Sucking (or the zuzeln method), splitting it open with a knife and then peeling back the skin, or peeling the skin off the top and eating it like a banana. I use option three. The sausage tastes delicious and has a great amount of flavor. In addition to the sausages, I also got a German beer (outstanding). I would have liked an extra sausage as the dish only comes with two links, but it is still a quality dish as the pretzel it comes with is tasty (albeit small) and the side mustard is plenty flavorful. Chicken Believe it or not, a German Biergarten that serves Jamaican style wings works. It is also a good idea to get these first because these things have plenty of spice and variety. I polished off 12 of them, but for a large party you can get 24. They are also served with bleu cheese, carrots, and celery sticks. Eat your vegetables too. Do not just stick with the protein. Sweet No meal is complete without a Black Forest cake, and with the name of the restaurant being Black Forest, I had to finish off with its namesake cake. You get a nice slice, and the cake is moist, rich, with a good amount of chocolate and cherry flavor coming through. Now I have to see how the Germans do theirs to compare. -- I have been to the Fort Greene location as well, but I told the super friendly and resourceful staff that this one is the better location. I may have also gained 15 pounds in this one visit, but I have also gained another restaurant I can trust in an area that is not so trustworthy with its clientele (that is French for customers).
