Jgerschnitzel, the hubs dish. He feels guilty eating veal but not when eating this. 10000/10 on his rating scale.

I cannot believe I haven't reviewed Zum before considering it's one of my favorite restaurants on planet Earth. I came to add more photos of what I thought I had reviewed and to my surprise there was nothing from me. I'm happy I get to review it now. Where to start? Been coming here for many years. Authentic German atmosphere. A feeling of family throughout the entire space. Service, amazing. We came in for my birthday and while I've tried most everything, my main go to is their Sauerbraten. Delicious tender sweet and sour beef in the most amazing flavorful gingersnap gravy served with a side of Potato dumplings and red cabbage. If this doesn't scream comfort food, I don't know what does. It's reminiscent of a cold evening at home with a hearty meal on the stove waiting to be devoured and the plate picked. I'm not kidding. We had their creamed spinach as a side, which was delicious but slightly on the salty side. Wasn't expecting that but it was still hearty and fulfilling to the soul. Prices have gone up but still well worth it for what you get. No free refills on soda. Cards accepted. Make a reservation for sure. Even if its empty upon arrival, it soon fills up.

It was busy so we sat at the bar. First Mike made us two great drinks, then came the appetizers and then the dinner itself. Everything was excellent and delicious. The atmosphere was friendly and we'll be damn sure to come back here again.

Old-world charm, serious comfort food, and flavors that hit you right in the soul--Zum Stammtisch is a true NYC gem. Tucked away in Glendale, this classic German spot is everything you want in a cozy, kitschy, and utterly authentic dining experience. We came hungry and left in a full-on food coma (no regrets). The Jaegerschnitzel--a tender breaded veal cutlet bathed in earthy mushroom and veal stock sauce--was absolute perfection. The Goulash Soup? Rich, hearty, and soul-warming--truly the best in the world. We shared the Bayerische Bauern Platte, a carnivore's dream loaded with bratwurst, krainerwurst, knockwurst, tangy sauerkraut, and creamy potato salad--every bite packed with flavor. For dessert, the Apple Strudel with ice cream was the warm-and-cold combo of dreams, and the chocolate mosse brought all the rich, chocolatey vibes. Washed it all down with strong, fragrant German coffee--a perfect end to an unforgettable meal. If you're craving a hearty, comforting feast in a place that feels like a Bavarian postcard, Zum Stammtisch is where you need to be. #ZumStammtisch #GermanFoodNYC #QueensEats #JaegerschnitzelHeaven #GoulashSoupGoals #NYCFoodie #OldSchoolEats #FoodieInTheBigApple2025 #BlackForestCakeLove #GlendaleQueens

Käsespätzle. $15. A bit of it (without bacon.) Very tasty

I went to this tasty German restaurant a while ago for someone's birthday (which makes a bit of sense as I'm half German.) They used to have a store next door and I would have liked to compare it to my old local spot The Swiss Pork Store (it's German though) in NJ but unfortunately it's been closed for a bit. The staff was friendly and the inside is a bit dark. They gave some good warm bread to begin with. To drink, I had one of their many tap beers, the Weihenstephan Hefeweissbier Dunkel for I believe $9 or so. My preference for German beers are generally the Bavarian ones (along with Schlenkerla) and beers from Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan are my easy preference over Augustiner, Paulaner, and especially Hofbräu for wheat beers/hefeweiss as the flavors are a bit stronger. Said dunkel was a browner slightly sweeter variety and it was very tasty though I prefer the original one more even though this was very drinkable. To munch on, we got a couple appetizers. The käsespätzle for $15 made with emmentaler cheese and topped with bacon and fried onions was tasty though we had to hold the bacon due to reasons. It was good quality spätzle/spaetzle and plenty of it for the price with a good funkiness from the emmentaler and a bit of sweetness from the onions. They also got a Giant Pretzel which is $13 and served with 2 mustards and horseradish sauce with my definite and obvious preference being the Bavarian style sweeter mustard. The pretzel was pretty good quality being a bit better than Max I believe. I asked the waitress her opinion between the Jägerschnitzel and the Sauerbraten and she recommending the former which was $33 and listed as the "Hunter's Cutlet" with a breaded veal cutlet with a fresh mushroom sauce and veal stock and served with home fries. Said home fries had some bacon in them which was removable for others (but not me. Said cutlet was absolutely massive and the meat inside was tender with the batter not being too thick. It was excellent in short with the mushroom sauce adding some sweetness and earthiness with there being plenty of tender mushrooms. The weakest part was easily the home fries which lacked any crisp but the star was the meat. There was otherwise some parsley on the plate. As we were going back to someone's house, we didn't bother with dessert unfortunately. In short, this is one of the two actually good German restaurant in NYC and nein, the other one isn't The Heidelberg (it's Max Bratwurst Und Bier in Astoria.) Fünf Sterne to match Max though I prefer the later as their platters are easier to share but this is very close and the portions here are better.

Man it feels like you are in a different world! It's a Queens institution and it should be celebrated as such, it's a restaurant that has been open for 50 years and I hope it continues to stay open for another 50 years. The decor is amazing, it really feels like you stepped into Bavaria. Also, don't forget to stop by the connecting butcher shop, get there early because they only open during the day. I would love to go back for a daily special from the prime rib to the duck to the fried pork knuckle. The food: To start, we had two orders of potato pancake(not on the menu) and an order of Käsespätzle which is like a noodle mac and cheese with bacon. Sweet baby Jesus was the Käsespätzle good but it was heavyyyyyyy, thank god we shared it amongst 7 people. It was good for a few bites but I would have felt like death if I ate more. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=l1UnFE5upQfsjn_GDuw1mw The best thing we had at dinner was the Wurseplatte, which was 3 grilled German sausages from Bratwurst, Krainerwurst, to Knockwurst. All three were excellent, great flavor, great texture and great sausage flavor. I also really enjoyed the Jägerschnitzel, it was a breaded veal cutlet with a hearty mushroom gravy, I really like the gravy and mushrooms a lot. Sauerbraten was just ok, just tasted like boiled beef with sauce, I would skip it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=sOa3peRHHkWQ_Fw06XNDXA Then to end the meal we shared 3 different desserts, I did some research and the apple strudel were must orders as well as the Schwarzwälder Kirsch Torte. To be honest, I was shocked how awesome the desserts were. I think the apple strudel with vanilla ice cream was great and definitely exceeded expectations. The Schwarzwälder Kirsch Torte which was a sour cherry chocolate cake was shockingly delicious. I don't even like cherries and I would easily order that again in a heartbeat. Overall, great food, great atmosphere to enjoy some great German food. What a night

Schnitzel Heaven! Zum Stammtisch is one of those uncommon restaurants where it is basically impossible to go wrong. You'll get excellent traditional German food served by a friendly, efficient (of course!) staff in traditional dress. The Jägerschnitzel is smothered in savory mushroom gravy, resting atop delicious home fries. The enormous pretzel with dipping sauces (especially the horseradish sauce!) is dangerously good -- try not to fill up on it before your main! The Sauerbraten is fresh, tender and crafted to perfection. Sides of creamed spinach & red cabbage pair perfectly with the mains. Service was fabulous, with more patience than I think I've ever seen (1 or 2 at our table took painfully long to order lol). We really need to come here more often!

No need for a long review with this place. Amazing food and beer, huge portions. Friendly professional staff.

This was our second time visiting this establishment & we are looking forward to the next time! First off let me complement the staff. Everyone was nice and checked on us in a timely manner. Second the food both times we visited was DEE-LISH. Atmosphere is what I'd expect from a German restaurant. Beautiful. Two thumbs all the way up!

Another fabulous meal and wonderful dining experience at Zum Stamtisch! We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and the place was filled, but within a half hour we were seated. Cold Hofbrau beers to start, followed by my 2 favorites, the Deutscher Salat and the kaiserspatzle. You can not go wrong with either. The special on this day was bone in goose with homemade stuffing and we had to try it! Amazing!! As this was our first time having goose, we do did not know what to expect. It tasted similar to turkey but not exactly. We did not find it gamey at all, it was moist and flavorful. The stuffing was the perfect pairing and it tasted phenomenal. The red cabbage was sooo darned good. Apple strudel for dessert. Service was quick, friendly and on point. Really such a lovely place to gather, relax and enjoy some German cuisine. On street parking.

Sauerbraten and Wiener Zwiebel Rostbraten were lovely. The sauerbraten isn't my slice of pie. The wiener zwiebel rostbraten was a bit too difficult to cut in at least one part. But it tasted nice with the A1 sauce. I enjoyed how generous the portions were. The decor reminded me of Grimm Brothers fairy tale books I grew up with.

Hard to beat this place at a decor competition. Felt like I took a trip to the German countryside. Flavors and style you can't get at an American restaurant. Serious big portions especially for the price and location. Free bread.

This was a place that we walked past about 875,000 times. And said "we should check it out…read moresometime." Sometime became today! And boy, were we in for a pleasant surprise, as we truly enjoyed ourselves. No one does beer hall like a German place. This is just facts. We had the Berliner Weisse, which comes in a .5L or 1L boot (does German beer count if it's not in a boot?). This was a delicious raspberry syrupy undertone wheat beer, and definitely a must have for next time. Though there were like a dozen other beers I need to have. They also have a pretty extensive wine selection, if that's your thing. We were there for a brunch. When we arrived, before 1pm, it wasn't busy at all. By the time we left, it was pretty full. The bar had seats though. Anyhoo, I tried their "energizer" which were eggs any style (poached for me), creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Never had a breakfast like this one! It was almost like a deconstructed eggs Florentine. YUM. My husband had the Heidelberger which was a German style hamburger with frizzled onions and mashed potatoes. He let me try some, it was pretty fantastic so I may need to try it sometime myself. Also do not miss their ginormous Bavarian pretzel. It was quite possibly the best I've had (and I've had many!). The service was outstanding, and the vibe was ... I dunno a step above what you saw in Fast Times where they go to the German restaurant. My only regret is that I didn't get the apfelstrudel. Next time! Washrooms are single occupancy.

After visiting the German Consulate General, we were looking to celebrate new dual citizenship with authentic German cuisine. We came for midday lunch but ordered off the full menu rather than the lunch/brunch menu. My wife ordered the duck, I ordered the wienerschnitzel. The duck made my wife throw up two hours after ingesting it. My (albeit) medium-well schnitzel ordered came extra well-done, crispy both on the inside and out. The restaurant was dark and freezing. Workmen were bringing in wood materials from the back and the door was left open for the duration of the meal to accommodate the establishment and its workmen over the dining comfort of its patrons. We asked about the unendurable arctic environment and the genial young man seating us, serving us and also tripling as barman, returned to say there was nothing he could do. Well, there is something we will do. Never ever come back.

I wasn't in the mood to beg for drink service and I was also at "hangry" levels. Left out of there and I walked into Black Forest Brooklyn. Best decision I had made all day. It was cozy and dimly lit inside. The atmosphere was more like a pub than the usual loud, beer garden. They also had The Knicks game showing on the big screen at the bar but this place wasn't spilling over with people. I asked for a menu and decided on a burger of course! Out of pure greed, I requested a double. I did NOT need a double. My burger was sooo good. Patties were perfectly well done and the cheese was smooth and melted nicely. The sautéed onions added extra flavor and I really liked the shoestring fries. I'm more of a steak fries person but these were great! I asked the bartender to suggest a beer that had a Blue Moon quality since they don't actually serve that brand. She gave me a sample of something from the tap that was on point, so I went with a full glass. Whenever I'm craving the perfect burger and beer combo, Black Forest Brooklyn will be at the top of my list from now on.
