Stopped in with a friend for a serious Knicks game a few nights ago. It was a standing room only or seats outside situation when I arrived, at the very start of the game. When I did move further inside, FancyFree was quite roomy. There are plenty of high tables and a full bar. I ordered a Moscow Mule which tasted a bit flat and it was NOT served to me in the classic tin mug. I'm convinced that the tin mug affects the cold levels and flavor of that cocktail. Our server, Pierre, was really attentive and pleasant. It was a fun night-big crowd. It's a shame I didn't get to experience their food menu. Ordered the onion rings (one of my fave), Sonoran dog, if you like hot dogs this is for you, bread is toasty and flavorful toppings. I recently stopped by on a Saturday afternoon with my family after an event at BAM across the street, and it was the perfect low-key spot to grab food and drinks. The atmosphere really sets it apart--those soaring ceilings and massive windows create an airy, open feel that's perfect for daytime drinking, and the sports decor adds character without being over the top. Despite being a sports bar (I'm sure it gets lively during Knicks playoff games), it was surprisingly family-friendly during our visit. We saw several other families, including one with a small baby, and the vibe was welcoming and chill. It wasn't crowded, so we could sit wherever we wanted. On this visit, we tried the deviled eggs, french fries, and Sonoran dog, all of which were tasty and came out impressively fast. The drinks are solid too: my Negroni was well-made, and they have well-priced beers and decent cocktails throughout. Daily specials make it even more budget-friendly. The staff is friendly and laid-back, which matches the overall vibe. I totally forgot to take pictures of the food but this place was amazing! I ordered their Sweet Chili wings & fries and my partner ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries and both meals were great! Wings were more of a fried breaded wing, FYI. Fries were spectacular - super crispy with sea salt. Can order with old bay if that is your preference. Drinks are amazing here as well. It is a really fun vibe with great servers as well who are very attentive! We visited on a Saturday evening before a concert and it was a blast. read more

I came here for a local event before attending a game at the Barclays Center. They had free drinks so it was great to stop by before entering the stadium. I have never tried this bar so I was interested in stopping by. You had a good crowd of people who were from the surrounding area. There were several people coming in from work for a drink. The televisions were on to the local sports games which had most people's attention. There were only two bartenders working that night for a full room of people. I finally managed to get an order in and requested an old fashioned. It did not come out good. In the bartender's defense he had to pour drinks for amost fifty people that night. I will have to come here on a regular day to see how their service normally is. They were not serving food at the time which was disappointing. I was not able to go for another drink as the bartender had to take a break and his partner was working on drink orders from the other side of the room. I proceeded to leave afterwards since not much else was happening. This seemed like a nice place to hang out. I will have to come back on another night to give it another go. read more

A very cool place to hangout after a long day at work. I explored this on my way to concert at Brooklyn paramount. They've a great happy hour menu and serve until 7 PM during the weekdays (Monday to Friday). They've indoor as well as outdoor seating. Bartender was pretty and welcoming. I tried a vegetarian empanadas on their menu which was deliciously filled with black beans, corns and cheese. I loved the taste. And had a house lager (Founders) from their happy hour menu. Seems like your regular neighborhood sports bar, nothing really standout worthy. I ordered the cosmo with tequila and it was well made. My friend had a Paloma but said it was very heavy on the grapefruit. They ordered fries and loved them but unfortunately it's a shared fryer so they weren't gf for me to try. They had the all star game on and have multiple TVs so you can see it wherever you are sitting. Some background music would be nice. Really enjoy coming to fancy free the name is fitting. The servers here are very friendly and attentive. The bar is wide and spacious. They have plenty of TVs for sports and fights. I love this place and for the past year and a half they've held the title of my favorite lemon pepper wing spot :). I also love their truffle parmesan fries and onion rings but I will go out of my way to treat myself to a takeout order of these wings alone. They are perfectly crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well seasoned. For drinks I mostly stick to their house margarita but recently I tried their La Reina cocktail and loved it. I would definitely order that again. Also, it's large inside so it's a great spot to host a 30 person+ standing happy hour or 10 person+ brunch. They have a front section with lots of bar seats and tables as well as a back section that could seat maybe 20 people. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a spot with great bar food, good drinks, and lots of seating or multiple giant TVs for standing and sports-watching. read more

We sat outside and were served quickly, and when it started to rain, we stood under our table umbrella talking to the two people next to us about work and city life. The food was excellent: Wish they wouldn't rely on straight-to-the-trash plastic for the condiments. Just popped by yesterday for their weekly Trivia night with some friends. Place was packed by 7:30 pm on a Wednesday, clearly a popular spot. Servers were friendly and accommodating - we basically switched around in 3 different spots in the place just to get enough room for 5 people, and they didn't blink. Drinks and food came out quickly enough. Tried their Lemon Pepper chicken wings and Buffalo wings, both were real solid and tasty. Beer selection on tap is fairly standard. Prices are a teensy bit higher than what I'm comfortable with (for example, I spent $18 for two Guinness beers), but nothing crazy. Highlight of course was the Bar Trivia. The dude running it was friendly, the questions were fun and engaging, everybody had a good time. First place got a prize, and they even gave out a special prize for funniest team-name - a round of shots! We snagged this with "Spike for Santos", in honor of his illustrious career in volleyball. I'd be happy to come back either for a quick bite or for another Bar Trivia night - I'd just show up earlier this time 'round, to make sure I got seats and all. read more

This is more of a review for their weekly Wednesday trivia nights. I came here for trivia with a friend and we really enjoyed ourselves. The space is quite small though and tables fill up quick, so I suggest a little early to snag a table in the back area (where trivia happens) if you wish to partake. My friend and I were seated in the front area where we and the other tables had a hard time hearing the host. Neither of us are big drinkers so we appreciated that they have a pretty large food menu. We got their homemade cheesecake. Not sure if I would recommend it but it was a nice treat! Cool neighborhood spot! Stopped here for happy hour the other night and it's a chill and casual sports bar that I'd come back to. Their food: -I ordered their fried pickles which were pretty good and standard. Nothing over the top but I liked how they were cut (not spears or chips, it was something in between!) -elote ribs 10/10! You must get these. I've never had elote like this before and it was delicious. Super flavorful and unique. -they also had a nonalcoholic beer which I appreciated. Their vibe: Sports bar vibe so pretty casual! I liked their outdoor seating and they had a lot on both sides of their restaurant which was nice. I ordered the nachos with grilled chicken as well. Now the taste was good. But somethings that I disliked or I would that the chicken was not evenly distributed throughout the nachos. It's a grilled chicken breast sliced on the side of the nachos. So you have to cut the check in yourself and distribute if you like. The queso on the nachos was really good. It is a very large size. Wow, what a gem to welcome (back) to the neighborhood. This corner bar was Mullanes Irish pub before and though the new owners haven't changed it too much, it's all very welcome and overdue changes. The food is much better, the cocktails are better, the outdoor area is better and they've given the inside a much needed makeover. And the staff! The staff are super friendly and just all around awesome. It's the same owners as Endswell around the corner and anyone who has been there, knows they pride themselves on the service and they're obviously (thankfully) doing the same at Fancy Free. This is going to be a neighborhood staple for sure as it gives that quintessential neighborhood pub feel that was missing from Fort Greene for a while. Side note the patio on the side has a garden of fresh herbs and smells great. The staff was cool and helpful and the food was good. Stopped in here tonight on a whim to grab a bite to eat before heading over to BAM for an 8 PM show. It was a great place for a quick and tasty bite as service was pretty quick and the food was good too. I ordered two veggie empanadas (10/10), a mojito (10/10) and sweet potato fries (although my waitress did bring me regular fries as a mistake). She offered to take them back but I told her no worries as I was in a rush to be on time for BAM. The fries were well seasoned and tasty as well :) I would definitely return and I think this a good spot for a happy hour meet up or just some good eats. My husband, five year old son and I sat down for an Arsenal game. We were told there's a reservation and we need to get up. This is bad business because first it's a bar and there's no sign but also you decide to move a family with a small child. If you're going to host a game for a local supporters group, why are you taking reservations to watch the game? No Arsenal bar we've gone to has ever conducted this before. It's bad business. I first read about FancyFree when I was researching trivia options in Brooklyn. I have yet to do trivia here, but I stopped in to grab a drink with a friend this afternoon. I ordered the turmeric mule, and it was sooo good. I noticed a few folks at the bar had ordered it as well. My friend also spotted an order of fries nearby and those were good as well.
