My girlfriend and I bought the Groupon for a tour and tasting of Dragon Distillery, and I am so glad we did! It's right by the Frederick airport and close to downtown. We were greeted with friendly faces and very appropriate decor to tie into the name. It has a medieval feel to it and amazing props set up around the tasting room. Our tour guide who also happened to be the owner was very knowledgeable and kind. The tour was informative but also easy to understand and a lot of fun. We tasted their moonshine, vodka, bourbon, and gin. They also have tonics that you can mix them with as well. I genuinely liked every single thing I tried, it's all smooth and high quality. I do recommend trying them with a tonic or two because they are delicious! I mentioned the high quality taste, but surprisingly it comes at a VERY affordable price. I couldn't believe how reasonable it was for the value you get. Also with the Groupon you get 2 shot glasses and 2 coasters. I highly recommend purchasing that for your first time so you can see and taste a little bit of everything for the full experience. On the weekends they do also have food trucks as well. This place is awesome! First experience at a distillery and it couldn't have been better. In addition to the owners being extremely pleasant and helpful, we found many of the products to our liking and had a difficult time choosing which ones to buy. Best distillery tour ever. Personally hosted by the owners themselves. A lot of knowledge is imparted on the tour. Any and all questions were answered with a smile and a thorough explanation of the process. And then you get to the tasting room, which is extremely generous. You are walked literally through every product with background on the inspiration for the spirit as well as creative ways to mix them. When we left, we felt like we were family. We bought a Groupon for 4 to Dragon Distillery and went on Sunday. We were welcomed as we walked in by the owner's, Mark and Tanya . Mark took us on a tour of the distillery. He was very informative and detailed. He explained the process of making liquor and answered all of our questions. Next, we tasted the different liquors they make there. We try to make it to Frederick at least once a year and I do a little research to make sure we visit interesting places. When I saw there was a distillery in town, I knew I wasn't going to miss out of that! I found a Local Saver offer that was a great deal so I ended up with not just the tasting, but a leather coaster, a whiskey glass and $7 off anything I bought. Mark's tour was well-done and very informative. The distilling process is pretty amazing and he was able to help us make sense of all the information he was giving. But, really, what's the most important part of the visit? The spirits, of course. They did not disappoint. Their vodka was very smooth and I liked it better than the lemon/citrus vodka. I was surprised that I enjoyed the mint vodka because I'm not a fan of mint at all...but it was a very light and refreshing flavor...not overwhelming. The moonshine was surprisingly smooth considering the punch it packs, but it was the lemon meringue moonshine that really impressed us. Believe it or not, it actually has a creamy mouthfeel and a delicious lemon flavor. It's 100-proof, so this stuff is strooooong. I really like how the owners take extra pains to use local ingredients and resources, recycle everything they can and partner with other local brewers. It's really a great business model and I wish them much success. We're definitely going back, probably in the spring. We really, really, really want to try the Black Cherry Almond vodka they plan on introducing soon. read more

My boyfriend and I went here a few weeks ago, and he and I LOVE distillery's! Dragon has been my favorite distillery that we have EVER visited. Their liquor did not taste like liquor, when drinking it you could taste all the beautiful flavors of the infusions. My personal favorites were the Lemon Meringue Moonshine and the Longbow Lemon Vodka. I left with a bottle of the Longbow Lemon and I drink it frequently mixed with a light lemonade. I highly recommend going here! The owners were fabulous, and the woman who did our tasting for us was incredible! She was so welcoming, funny, and intelligent. 10/10 would go back anytime! I plan on buying my liquor from here in the future. They have so many options! I live in West Virginia but Dragon Distillery is worth the drive everytime! read more

So disappointed! Drove 2 hours to get here made it 15 min before closing and they turned us away! Change your hours or put disclaimers that you need to arrive 20 before closing! Will not waste our time again! The owners were very rude about wanting to close and went as far as to chase us out the door yelling about Maryland laws and having to have a tour first but were unwilling to give the tour! Don't waste your time with these rude people, there are plenty of other great distilleries that want your business that will respect there hours of operation! read more

I'd heard about this distillery and was finally nearby and stopped in. It's in a sort-of industrial park across from the airport, but feels like a pub inside. The owners are so friendly, I got to learn all about their operations during the tour, then sampling some of the must wonderful handcrafted spirits I've ever had. The Basilisk Bourbon is complex and smooth, the Xephyer's Silver Scimitar white rum is for sipping on it's own, not mixing. There was also a very nice selection of infused flavored spirits that are not the sugary stuff that the big distilleries make, no sugar added at all. Besides taking home a few bottles, I couldn't resist buying some lowball glasses, too, with their very cool logo on it. read more

This place was awesome and I would be a regular if I lived in the same state. First, it was reasonably priced and we got a ton of value for minimal money. The entertainment options including a vast selection of board games, axe throwing, fun drinks, and interacting with the staff made it a great place to go. The tour was super informative and is the first time I understood the differences in making vodka vs whiskey vs brandy. There are so many interesting drinks that have good flavors infused (coffee, mango, etc) and provides endless tasting options and cocktail combos. They also have a ton of activities like murder mystery nights that sounded like great nights out. Especially recommend if you're nerdy and into the science of distilling or want to find medieval and fantasy themed drinks and games. I don't even drink alcohol and I would want to go back, my alcohol drinking friends loved all the drinks and want to go back and buy more. read more

Since I'm currently drinking a Manhattan made with their wonderful rye whiskey, I figured now would be the perfect time to review my experience here. Upon entering, I was very surprised to see that we were the only two people inside. The wife of the owner asked us if we had ever been there before and after we said "no," she explained that you had to pay for the tour (about twenty minutes and it was $10 for the two of us) to try their products. Having never visited a distillery before, we opted to wait until the next one. The tour was very intimate...it was literally the owner, my wife and I. He went through the entire process and was incredibly knowledgeable how every step of making spirits. Each thing we tried was wonderful, but what blew my mind was their "drinkable" vodka. It truly was easy to sip -- presumably because they distill it 100 times. We came away with a couple small bottles of rye whiskey and a large bottle of their lemon meringue moonshine. They also offer a military discount (I believe it was 10%). read more

We've been to more than a few distilleries, and this was the BEST we've been to. No exaggeration. Mark's tour was very informative and thorough, and it's clear to see the passion he has for his craft. I appreciated hearing how they source their ingredients locally and they partner with other local businesses to minimize waste - spent grains turned into animal feed, gin botanicals added to soap - super cool stuff. Most importantly, the spirits were fantastic!Extremely high quality, gorgeous flavors, and all with no added sugar. We left with two bottles and plan to return for more as new products are released. We enjoyed our tasting and getting ideas for how to use their spirits in cocktails. The medieval styled tasting room with dragons and armor was entertaining, and it's small size belies the large production facility in back. This is not to be missed. We started our visit with a tour. This was one of the best tours we had because Mark was knowledgeable and informative on the process of making whisky and other beverages. Afterwards, we did a tasting and it was hard to select which variety to chose from because they had over 17 different selections. During the tasting we had excellent conversations with Mark and his wife. Not only did they talk about the beverages, but they chatted about their personal experiences which gave the outing a down home, comfortable feeling. We ended up leaving with a variety of beverages and some of the best local bourbon we have had for a while. Tour was both informative and passionate. The service during the tasting is so personalized that we felt like we were the only ones there. Honestly the owners are just nice. You can tell they love what they do and are dedicated to making a quality product. We left with two four packs of their canned cocktails, the Moscow mule and the lemon meringue pie (I think) because they were so tasty! Coming from Pennsylvania, this was our first stop in a mini-tour of 3 local distilleries. We knew immediately that it would be be a tough one to beat, and we were right. The staff and atmosphere at Dragon Distillery were fantastic. Super friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable. Then there were the spirits...amazing! You can tell the quality and care that go in to their craft. Of the 3 distilleries we visited, this is the only place from which we purchased anything to take home. We will be back!! read more

They allow dogs in the tasting room, which is a fun bonus for those who like to travel with their pups. Can't find a better place. The owners (Mark and Tanya) are so personable and knowledgeable on their products. They take the utmost care to put out the highest quality liquor. I have done their tour and tastings in the past and that was great....BUT this weekend attended their two day whiskey/bourbon making class. All I can say is.....AWESOME!!!!
