I had such a blast at Kick Axe Throwing!! There is so much versatility in the space and a whole range of options of things to do!! There's giant Jenga, a bunch of board games, giant Connect 4, a bar with a host of fantastic cocktails to choose from plus so so much more. The music was also really on point and had me adding a bunch of songs to my playlist!! Of course, there is the axe throwing... Which I 10/10 would recommend doing. We made a reservation on the same day, and were lucky there were slots available!! Before starting we got a 5-10 min tutorial on safety rules and technique with throwing the axe , which helped A LOT & also made me super comfortable. This is my first time trying ax throwing.. I thought it was interesting that it was right next to throw social which is another ax throwing place. Anyway I'm glad that I got to try it but I found it a bit of a boring experience kind of like heavy duty darts which also can get boring after some period of time I'm not sure that this is a business model that is sustainable because honestly it's just built on Ax throwing and a bar and they also have some other types of games like Yahtzee and Kinect for if you are bored but honestly I think this is one of those itches I had to scratch. There is parking on the street which is free in this part of town which is ivy City part of Washington DC If you're in the area shouldn't have any trouble with finding it and there is a heavy police presence so I would say it's a pretty reasonably safe area. Service was okay no major issues. We did order some nachos which took forever to arrive. They also seem to be out of a lot of things. I remembered watching ax throwing on ESPN and the pros made it look so easy...well they are pros for reason, it's not as easy as it seems, but after a few rounds of practice, it's not too bad and it's fun. The best part? A bar + food are available on premises making it a better experience! We signed up online for a timeslot and fortunately, it was week night and not crowded. Not to worry, there are two floors of fun that would be filled to capacity during busy times. When you enter the premises, check in and sign the waiver online. An employee will take you to your booth and give you a safety briefing on how to throw the ax - pay attention to the instructions on how to throw the ax, take a few practice throws and have fun! During the rounds, stop by the bar for some beer (or other libations) - unfortunately, when we visited, some of the beers on tap were empty...fortunately, can beers filled in. In addition to the bar, there is a kitchen serving decent bar food. We ordered tacos - they were good + beer + ax throwing made it a fun evening. Located in the Northeast part of DC, a mix of industrial and commercial area - street parking may be available, but if not, there is a garage close by. Would I visit again? Definitely! It took 45 mins to even get my food. My range at the ace throwing was over and I was still waiting on my food. The bar area was super crowded and it took forever to order drinks. I had to even request a manager brocade I was wasting too much time tryin to order food and drink while I was axe throwing. (You only get 1 hour) Axe throwing was great. You get an instructor for the whole time your there. Also if you have under 8 guests you will be sharing the axe throwing area with other guests. Things I adored: - I was able to make a reservation in advance and checked in with no issue - there's a cute bar and seating area in the front, in the event you do have to wait. - my axe throwing coach, cash, was FANTASTIC! Was very confusing...QR code at your axe throwing stall but doesn't work. You have to go to bar, order there and have them deliver to your stall #. Seems super inefficient. Yesterday, we took the kiddos to Kick Axe Throwing for some fun! It's on the first floor of the throw social building. It's located in Ivy City. Our appointment was at 1230pm. We arrived a little arrival for instructions, sign the waiver, and to get settled. Masks were not enforced. But, you have to wear closed toe shoes for safety. I didn't have any so I was able to get a pair of crocs. "H" was out attendant. He did a great job at explaining safety procedures and how to be successful in using the ax. We did an hour of play. I would come back for adult night or date night. It's a Beautiful location. It's great place for pictures Parking in the garage was free if you are there under 90 mins. read more

There was a loud, uncomfortable sound coming from the speaker that management couldn't turn off. They got rid of happy hour so the drinks are $15 for a very small cup, and our host Alejandro was very rude. Alejandro's attitude was very distasteful. We first asked about Happy hour and the menu and his response was "I don't know anything about that" Hmmm, as an employee not knowing about your company is very telling. He asked if we needed anything later on and we told him the sound was disturbing. He then proceeded to say "okay well there's nothing I can do about that. I don't have the power to change that so" . I've been here twice now the first time I was downstairs throwing axes with my cousin. That is a job well learned lol it was a lot of fun and kind of warm and we went beginning of February so if you wrap up, make sure whatever you have on underneath is like a T-shirt or something. Extremely slow bar service, even with only a few customers and three bartenders and a bar back. Why? Not sure. All three seemed to be more interested in talking with each other than greeting and serving the guests. Maybe slow service at the bar is our penance for having a great axe throwing experience. They start you out with a coach who trains you on how to properly throw the axe as well as the safety practices to follow. I had a phenomenal drink from the lodge bar. Date night here was different than the normal dinner and movies. We decided to throw axes instead and here we are placed in a lane along with another couple to their lane (much like bowling). Alone time is not for this activity but the pre-game or post-game is when that can happen. The bar had been lacking of items but none too concerning. Eat dinner elsewhere - bar food is exactly all they serve and it wasn't the greatest. We had wings which were subpar but don't bother with the pretzel which was dry and burnt. Service was a bit shaky as we had to ask for our order a couple of times. The wait at the bar was a bit time consuming as well. It may be different at other times because we did go on a Saturday night. Anyhow our trainer did show us the techniques and explained the game but did not stay to enforce any rules or to help the game come along as we had seen some others do. Our trainer did let us in on the upstairs bar area Throw Social DC which had a live gogo band CCB that night and an area to enjoy a beer pong game along with cabanas for rent. Not a bad social spot! Researched a few different axe throwing places for my friend's 30th birthday and settled on Kick Axe - mostly based on the atmosphere, which is log cabin themed downstairs but almost like a poppin' club upstairs. We started off with our axe throwing appointment and had a personal instructor for our lane/bay who walked us through the basics on throwing and the 3 games/challenges. I liked this level of instruction that was also pretty hands-off. The food was okay lol. But that's not really what we came here for. Once our reservation was over, we headed upstairs to check it out. I thought it looked so fun! There are more games (I think there was giant jenga and maybe another), fancy-looking kabana areas, and also a DJ playing with an area to dance (this was on a Saturday night btw).
