This place was incredibly disappointing. We arrived at lunchtime to celebrate my son's birthday, and there were only two other customers there - yet we waited more than 30 minutes before we could order drinks or food, despite repeatedly trying to get the bartender's attention. When the drinks finally came, she didn't even bring one for my son, whose birthday we were celebrating; we had to ask her to go back for it. We were immediately told that part of the advertised birthday perk wasn't available, but staff provided that same perk to another birthday group that arrived two hours later. The limited menu was missing many of the listed food items, the food we received was mediocre, and everything took forever. We even had to clear our own plates which sat stacked behind us until we left. Meanwhile, the equipment repeatedly timed out, and each time we had to track someone down and wait for help. Staff seemed inattentive and made us feel as though every basic request was an inconvenience. The restaurant also adds an automatic 22% gratuity that is very easy to miss- which felt especially unreasonable given the almost nonexistent service. The bays and area around us was cluttered with items stacked everywhere, and equipment where it didn't belong, and although the music was good, the overall atmosphere was strange and very unwelcoming. They somehow managed to make axe throwing not fun - and charged a lot of money for the experience. If the place functions this poorly when nearly empty, I can't imagine what it's like when crowded. Had a great time at Kick Ace Throwing. This was my first time axe throwing so I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but it was a ton of fun. The staff were friendly and attentive, which added to the experience. They explained the technique for throwing and gave us a few practice throws, which was very helpful. I ended up doing better than I thought I would! I didn't try any of the food, but did order one cocktail. I had a strawberry margarita, which was delicious! My only complaint was the heat! It was so stuffy and hot inside the whole time my group was there. It only got worse as the cross grew. The place could use some fans or something! Other than that, a great first experience. Beyond the axe throwing lanes, they've got board games galore and even Jenga! It's the perfect way to unwind between rounds or if you're waiting for your turn. The real MVP of the night? The bartender was fantastic - super friendly, knowledgeable about their drinks, and quick with the service. No long waits at the bar here! And the food? Don't even get me started. The tacos were on point. Crispy tater tots were the perfect side, and the sweet flavored pulled pork mini sliders? Oh. My. Goodness. This summer they seem to never have food available and then won't take accountability when they overcharge you and won't refund you accordingly for items they did not have on their menu. I will not return or recommend to anyone. If they supposedly are changing the menu, they should let you know beforehand that the item is not available. The waitress clearly made it seem like it was available and then would come back and say they don't have it. There's a clear disconnect between inventory and staff awareness. To date, the restaurant never offered a gesture of goodwill and I still have been overcharged. read more

I had such a blast at Kick Axe Throwing!! There is so much versatility in the space and a whole range of options of things to do!! There's giant Jenga, a bunch of board games, giant Connect 4, a bar with a host of fantastic cocktails to choose from plus so so much more. The music was also really on point and had me adding a bunch of songs to my playlist!! Of course, there is the axe throwing... Which I 10/10 would recommend doing. We made a reservation on the same day, and were lucky there were slots available!! Before starting we got a 5-10 min tutorial on safety rules and technique with throwing the axe , which helped A LOT & also made me super comfortable. I liked the energy a lot -- there were a good range of birthdays being celebrated, dates happening, friends hanging out... It was an all round great vibe!! I really had a great time here. Came for a staff social event and I was very hesitant about participating at first but who knew I would end up being a pro. That may have helped make this a five star event for me. Here are some takeaways: Environment Large fun filled space - once you walk in there is the a bar and behind the bar is the area where you throw axes. There, they have the throwing area and kind of this bar area for folks who want to hang back and watch their friends or colleagues throw axes. It was really cool space with neat decorations hanging around the area that really inspires the fun nature. Service All the staff were welcoming and friendly. They have staff that give instructions and help out with the axe area. They are full of great energy and made us feel welcome in the space. Food and drinks The drinks were fine - nothing that stood out but got the job done. I can't speak to price because this was a company event so not sure if you get the bang for you buck here. This is my first time trying ax throwing.. I thought it was interesting that it was right next to throw social which is another ax throwing place. Anyway I'm glad that I got to try it but I found it a bit of a boring experience kind of like heavy duty darts which also can get boring after some period of time I'm not sure that this is a business model that is sustainable because honestly it's just built on Ax throwing and a bar and they also have some other types of games like Yahtzee and Kinect for if you are bored but honestly I think this is one of those itches I had to scratch. There is parking on the street which is free in this part of town which is ivy City part of Washington DC If you're in the area shouldn't have any trouble with finding it and there is a heavy police presence so I would say it's a pretty reasonably safe area. Service was okay no major issues. We did order some nachos which took forever to arrive. They also seem to be out of a lot of things. A buddy visiting wanted to do something unique - he did the research and recommended ax throwing...is it a thing? Yup, it is and it's a fun thing, actually DC Ax Project makes it an awesome thing. I remembered watching ax throwing on ESPN and the pros made it look so easy...well they are pros for reason, it's not as easy as it seems, but after a few rounds of practice, it's not too bad and it's fun. The best part? A bar + food are available on premises making it a better experience! We signed up online for a timeslot and fortunately, it was week night and not crowded. Not to worry, there are two floors of fun that would be filled to capacity during busy times. When you enter the premises, check in and sign the waiver online. An employee will take you to your booth and give you a safety briefing on how to throw the ax - pay attention to the instructions on how to throw the ax, take a few practice throws and have fun! During the rounds, stop by the bar for some beer (or other libations) - unfortunately, when we visited, some of the beers on tap were empty...fortunately, can beers filled in. In addition to the bar, there is a kitchen serving decent bar food. We ordered tacos - they were good + beer + ax throwing made it a fun evening. Located in the Northeast part of DC, a mix of industrial and commercial area - street parking may be available, but if not, there is a garage close by. Would I visit again? Definitely! The venue is huge and sort like transports you into a modern-like lodge vibe....with lots of chill, lounge spaces, neon lit coves, and fireplace seating. The menu and eats here is mostly bar food, and quick eats...like wings, pizza and sliders to name a few. And, everything I tried was a Thumbs Up! For those not interested in "getting your frustration out with an axe," there's plenty other activities and things to do here....from playing some interesting board games, catching up on your sport/games for the night on many flat panel TV's around the place....to a totally whole-nother vibe upstairs that takes on an outdoor beer-garden feel....all in doors! There's even an upstairs spot called "Throw Social" in the upstairs portion of this venue that offers up live concerts, a DJ spinning and dance floor, indoor "throw football" bowling...which was really cool...different, so much fun....and lots of chill lounge/cabana spaces to just relax and take it all in. Sooo much fun! Came here to celebrate a friends birthday and had a blast! The vibe here feels like a dope-ass cabin after party with your closest friends...no lie! I am no axe throwing pro, but I did pretty good for my first time off a few Cuervo shots lol. Yes, this place serves liquor, so you can get lit and throw an axe at the same time, but stay woke so you don't end up injuring the squad. My party rented out a den for a more intimate vibe, and it really made the night perfect. Our space had several chairs to lounge on and a big table to play games on. Def a win! The only thing that wasn't so popping here was the playlist. 80s/90s rock and the Saturday crowd was mostly 20/30 something Black folks?? Y'all need to stop fronting and play some Lil Baby next time. And you must try the upstairs (by the elevators) it's like a while bother world up there. The food was so/so.... My Mac and cheese bites was cold. The wings were under cooked. It took 45 mins to even get my food. My range at the ace throwing was over and I was still waiting on my food. The bar area was super crowded and it took forever to order drinks. I had to even request a manager brocade I was wasting too much time tryin to order food and drink while I was axe throwing. (You only get 1 hour) Axe throwing was great. You get an instructor for the whole time your there. Also if you have under 8 guests you will be sharing the axe throwing area with other guests. The manager showed me Throw Social upstairs and what a great space for larger groups! Lots of options/games at this establishment. 3. Bar/food ordering needs improvement. Was very confusing...QR code at your axe throwing stall but doesn't work. You have to go to bar, order there and have them deliver to your stall #. Seems super inefficient. Yesterday, we took the kiddos to Kick Axe Throwing for some fun! It's on the first floor of the throw social building. It's located in Ivy City. Our appointment was at 1230pm. We arrived a little arrival for instructions, sign the waiver, and to get settled. Masks were not enforced. But, you have to wear closed toe shoes for safety. I didn't have any so I was able to get a pair of crocs. "H" was out attendant. He did a great job at explaining safety procedures and how to be successful in using the ax. We did an hour of play. I would come back for adult night or date night. It's a Beautiful location. It's great place for pictures Parking in the garage was free if you are there under 90 mins. read more

My partner and I had a ton of fun axe throwing here over the weekend. Made for a great non-traditional Valentine's date. Things I adored: - I was able to make a reservation in advance and checked in with no issue - there's a cute bar and seating area in the front, in the event you do have to wait. - my axe throwing coach, cash, was FANTASTIC! Kept checking on us and provided great instructions to make sure we were safe and had a good time. - all of the staff were really awesome in general. - the overall place is super cute (very instagrammable if that's you're thing). - reasonable prices This spot makes for a great non traditional date night OR a fun girls night OR would even been cool as a small work event. Okay, so why the 4 stars and not 5: - the food menu is not really vegetarian or pescatarian friendly and the veg options are not great. I had the veggie tacos and they were NOT it. They're legit unseasoned broccoli chunks in a taco shell. The only other options were a pretzel and chips and salsa which weren't that great either. Other than that...we had fun. This is nothing more than a boring, cash grab . We came for a work event and were all unimpressed. The music didn't work. There was a loud, uncomfortable sound coming from the speaker that management couldn't turn off. They got rid of happy hour so the drinks are $15 for a very small cup, and our host Alejandro was very rude. Alejandro's attitude was very distasteful. We first asked about Happy hour and the menu and his response was "I don't know anything about that" Hmmm, as an employee not knowing about your company is very telling. He asked if we needed anything later on and we told him the sound was disturbing. He then proceeded to say "okay well there's nothing I can do about that. I don't have the power to change that so" . Needless to say, my company and I will not return to this place. The waitress was nice, didn't catch her name but she had really nice reddish-brown hair . The two stars are for her only. I've been here twice now the first time I was downstairs throwing axes with my cousin. That is a job well learned lol it was a lot of fun and kind of warm and we went beginning of February so if you wrap up, make sure whatever you have on underneath is like a T-shirt or something. Second time I went I was with a group of friends upstairs in the game area. We had a table and then I decided to get a canopy or whatever you call it and we had a ball. A band came on. Despite the place being empty on Halloween evening (it was raining that night). the place gave a very cozy vibe rather than dead. I went here with my significant other as a birthday surprise. But after a few laughable throws we hit our stride and the fun was NON-STOP up until our very last throw. Extremely slow bar service, even with only a few customers and three bartenders and a bar back. Why? Not sure. All three seemed to be more interested in talking with each other than greeting and serving the guests. Maybe slow service at the bar is our penance for having a great axe throwing experience. So I've been to this place twice, once before Covid hit and once since we been living the pandemic life. Both times the feeling had been the same.....fantastic!!!! The hospitality at this place is outstanding. We always feel so welcome when we are there. Neither time have we participated in the activities of axe throwing, curling, or football bowling. We have simply enjoyed the cocktails and lite bites. One day I'll throw an axe or two!! This place is our comfort and joy. I love everything thing about it. The fist level is Aspen at its finest ,warm and cozy atmosphere. You feel like you are ready to hit the sloops and chop some wood. Right now they have a semi limited bites menu but not so limited that they don't have the most awesome smoked short rib you will ever order!! The short rib is half a dinosaur bone!! Really Flintstone like. The meat falls off the bone and is so tender. Please be sure to order this meatlicousness if the opportunity presents itself. The other bites are decent but nothing to write home about. The mini pizza is a must if libations are being passed. They start you out with a coach who trains you on how to properly throw the axe as well as the safety practices to follow. I had a phenomenal drink from the lodge bar. Date night here was different than the normal dinner and movies. We decided to throw axes instead and here we are placed in a lane along with another couple to their lane (much like bowling). Alone time is not for this activity but the pre-game or post-game is when that can happen. The bar had been lacking of items but none too concerning. Eat dinner elsewhere - bar food is exactly all they serve and it wasn't the greatest. We had wings which were subpar but don't bother with the pretzel which was dry and burnt. Service was a bit shaky as we had to ask for our order a couple of times. The wait at the bar was a bit time consuming as well. It may be different at other times because we did go on a Saturday night. Anyhow our trainer did show us the techniques and explained the game but did not stay to enforce any rules or to help the game come along as we had seen some others do. Our trainer did let us in on the upstairs bar area Throw Social DC which had a live gogo band CCB that night and an area to enjoy a beer pong game along with cabanas for rent. Not a bad social spot! Researched a few different axe throwing places for my friend's 30th birthday and settled on Kick Axe - mostly based on the atmosphere, which is log cabin themed downstairs but almost like a poppin' club upstairs. We started off with our axe throwing appointment and had a personal instructor for our lane/bay who walked us through the basics on throwing and the 3 games/challenges. I liked this level of instruction that was also pretty hands-off. The food was okay lol. But that's not really what we came here for. Once our reservation was over, we headed upstairs to check it out. I thought it looked so fun! There are more games (I think there was giant jenga and maybe another), fancy-looking kabana areas, and also a DJ playing with an area to dance (this was on a Saturday night btw).
