**Disappointing Experience - Poor Puzzle Mechanics** We recently completed the Harry Potter-themed escape room and were very disappointed. While we enjoy a challenging escape room, the biggest issue was that solving the puzzles didn't consistently trigger the sensors to move the game forward. Several times, we had the correct solution, but the room wouldn't register it unless we positioned pieces in a very specific way--such as ensuring a light blinked only once or flipping objects precisely to trigger a magnet. Instead of rewarding problem-solving, it felt like we were fighting with the mechanics of the room. An escape room should challenge players intellectually, not frustrate them with overly finicky sensors. If you solve a puzzle correctly, it should work--without having to repeatedly reposition items in hopes of triggering the lock. Unfortunately, this made the experience more tedious than fun. We wouldn't recommend this room unless the company improves its puzzle mechanics. read more

Visited for the first time to try an escape room with my partner! We had a great time on a room rated 7/10, which we had to ourselves tonight. So much fun! We were just a mere 30 seconds from opening the door ourselves, having worked out the final clue.... Great young people working tonight, too. Very friendly & helpful. read more

Missing clues and locks were jammed. Didn't get to complete the room. Was fun but I wish there was better room management.

A few months ago 4 of us visited Hagers X Games. Staff was nice, not a long wait, no apparent issues, etc. But then we got to the escape room which had a Las Vegas gambling theme to it. Some puzzles involved figuring out various number combinations to be used to unlock typical single dial combination locks. I thought that I had figured out the combination for one such lock, but after turning the dial in various different ways and trying other number combination ideas I concluded that I should worry about the other locks and then come back to it later. Once all the other locks had been opened I finally returned to said lock, now with the help of the rest of my family who were all done with their other tasks. We all had a go at this lock, offering many different possible combinations and methods for which to turn the lock. No luck. By the way, it's worth noting that my sister was formerly a bank teller and my mother currently is one, so the idea that they couldn't get a lock open with the correct combination (and we DID have the correct combination) is especially silly. Time ran out and the person who locked us in returned to let us out and answer questions. We directed her to the lock, telling her that it won't open up no matter what number combinations or rotational methods we tried. Afterwards, she apologized telling us that, prior to letting us in the room, she was supposed to explain the specific directions we needed to rotate the dial locks in order to open them, but had forgot. She then attempted to demonstrate how to open the lock but found she could not open it as well. She knew the correct combination (presumably) and the right way to rotate the dial (presumably) but she was just as helpless to the lock as we were. In other words we were given an unsolvable puzzle. Now I know what you're thinking, if we were given a faulty unsolvable puzzle then shouldn't we have been given, for our troubles, a refund or at least a free try at another escape room? Yes, we should have, and perhaps we would have, if not for what happened afterward. While the employee was in the middle of trying to get the lock to open another employee showed up and had a crack at it. Now, unfortunately, we weren't really paying scrutinous attention to this employee and were all just kinda doing our own thing, talking to each other, carrying on, etc. Probably just honestly expecting more failure on this new employee's part. But wouldn't you know it, not long after they arrived they were able to get the lock open, thus proving, supposedly, that the game we played was solvable. And as far as I can remember they then left the room without saying a word. Now I don't know what kind of witchcraft this other employee pulled, but I have exactly two theories. The first theory is that the original employee who had let us into the room and who was initially in charge of telling us the correct way to spin the dials (but didn't) was actually ignorant of the correct way the entire time, and that this other employee was the one who actually did know the correct method and utilized said method. The second theory, and admittedly I am actually more apt to believe this than the former (which is unfortunate), is foul play. I think that this other employee came in and was somehow able to quickly change the combination, unlock the lock with the new combination, and then leave before we could question them about their method. Do I have any proof? No. But I do think the reasonings behind my suspicions are entirely justifiable if I'm being honest. My first reasoning, the fact that the new employee left without saying anything. Honestly I found that very suspicious; and my second reasoning, well, come on, it's a single dial combination lock like they have on most high school lockers.  They're the furthest thing from rocket science.  My point being that even if we weren't told the exact method that we were meant to turn the dial there are still a very limited number of feasible ways to turn the dial and I can basically guarantee that we tried all such ways.  Also, there were other dial locks of the exact same kind that we had unlocked prior to us all focusing our attention on this one, so unless this one was specifically designed to be leagues different from all the others of its kind, I am inclined to call bull. The fact that we couldn't somehow get the lock open even though we knew what the number combination was is absolutely absurd, and I refuse to believe that all it took was spinning it a specific way that we somehow didn't think of in order to open it.  In the end we were not given a refund or a retry and I feel we were entitled, in some way, to one.  I have more to say but Yelp has a word limit. Hagers X Games - Axe Throwing Near Me - Hagerstown, Maryland

I have always been a fan of escape games so my friend and I booked a room. Upon arrival, we were immediately met by Kristian Clay (owner) with a warm welcome and introduction. She then escorted us to the room and explained all the rules. This was by far the best escape room I have ever been to and I've done over 30. The place is extremely clean and is partnered with axe throwing which is exciting. There are multiple options of snacks and goodies on site which is extremely convenient. During some downtime on our vacation we were looking to pass some time with a fun activity and decided to pop in to Hagers X Games for some axe throwing. We were greeted welcomely by John at the front desk who walked us through the options and various amenities. He told us about the safety rules, showed us how to play the different boards, gave us some tips on how to throw better and introduced us to the staff. Everyone was very helpful and cheerful. John informed me that they have only been open for 2 months, but you would have never guessed that given the professionalism shown to us by all of the employees. I would highly recommend stopping by and enjoying some downtime fun. read more
