Went back again and had clams casino and Maryland crab cakes. Portions were small but the price is very reasonable. Both were very good. I also ate the stuffed flounder with garlic fries which I've had before and never fails to disappoint. For fresh food the prices are great. I read a few of the posts here and decided to try this place out for my birthday. I enjoyed the experience here.....the food was good and everyone got drinks of their choice. I didn't try it but my friends enjoyed the sangria.....we ordered numerous appetizers and they were all gone before our entrees. I had the shrimp scampi over rice and enjoyed it as well. I went to DPs with a pretty open mind. I was expecting a dive bar and they don't disappoint in that respect. It reminded me of a bar you would find in Buffalo NY if that paints you a picture. When I walked in I felt depressed. It is extremely dim which made it impossible for my two friends to read the menu written on chalkboards. My parents, with their poor eyesight would starve if they came to eat here. We ordered some food and drinks. The waitress was not rude but I wouldn't call her friendly either. She had the whole bar to serve which meant forget having your dishes or empty glasses cleared. I saw one table pick up their drinks at the bar. I saw another woman get up to bar and ask for her check. Honestly I could forgive all this for some great bar food. Here's the quick and dirty. Salad was one slice of tomato on top of the yellow core of an iceberg lettuce. Two of us tried getting the Chilean Seabass but it was sold out so we settled for a cheese burger. The burger was reminiscent of the burgers from my elementary public school cafeteria. Huge bun, dry meat, mealy cheddar with no lettuce tomato or onion. I think the last straw for me was when I saw the cook drag out an cut open a jumbo plastic bag of frozen mussels! Oh and they forgot our order of garlic fries. Coming here reminded me that if I want fresh seafood its easy as 1. buy fresh fish from the supermarket 2. season with salt and pepper 3. throw it on a hot pan with olive oil. I think I have found my new favorite local spot! I have passed this place so many times without a second glance. A friend of mine recommended it and I finally got to see what the big fuss is about. I will get the negatives out of the way first. -shabby exterior -dimly lit -not the friendliest service aside from our waitress (she ran outside after me to give me my leftovers, which was very sweet) Now on to good stuff! I ordered the sliced steak with salad and the infamous garlic fries. The steak was cooked to perfection. The flavor was amazing. I usually get steak sauce along with my steaks, but this didnt need it! The salad was just iceberg lettuce and tomatoes, but they have good dressings as well as bottles of oil and vinegar. I agree with all the other reviewers that the garlic fries are an absolute must. Im salivating just thinking about them! Drink prices are average. $4 blueboon $6 bacardi and coke. Many of you may think, "such low prices, I bet the food sucks." WRONG! They rule. Everyday (according to signs posted throughout the bar), they go to the Fulton Fish Market in NYC to pick up a fresh catch to cook and you can definitely taste it. My go to orders are the mussels marinara and the garlic fries. Your breath will stink, but you want those garlic fries. The only flaw with D.P.'s (besides the name that begs you to crack jokes) is that the ATM is usually out of money. I consider this minor though, and hardly the venue's fault. It's also worth mentioning that if you go from 5-9 p.m., which you probably will, they can get pretty crowded. Once outside, I assumed either only homeless people came here once they've scrummaged enough change for food or this is where dozens of cats hid by the dumpster to scare people away and eat the garbage. Now, I am happy and shocked to say I love it here! It's the place my brother takes me when he's paying for a meal so it has some sentimental value. The seafood is great for the price! Poor wine selection (sutter home, eek) but this isn't the place for fine dining and a wine list. It's the place u take your kid sister to to bond or your friends to watch a game and eat like kings for a maximum price of $30 (that includes a drink or two!). The world could use a lot more DPs'. I usually order fried clams (though you may want to go through 2 orders, but for $2.95, who cares), garlic fries, and shrimp scampi or sliced steak. Their surf and turf is great as well but only on the daily specials, so make sure to look at the board by the bar. So I finally made it to DP's. Even on a Wednesday night there was about a 1/2 hour wait. The place was worth the wait. First off, unbelievable prices. .95 cents for a hot dog?? $2.75 for 5 mozzarella sticks?? $4.95 for mussels?? Great prices for good food. I loved the sauce on the mussells. Our order of fried shrimp hit the spot. The broiled scallops were great..... Nothing fancy.....,just 10 scallops broiled and nicely seasoned with a side of rice.....soo good! ( although the rice was just ok......maybe I'll get pasta next time as the side). The shrimp scampi was great too! The only drawback for me was the wait for a table and that it took about 25 minutes for any of the food we ordered to come out. So lets start off by saying that my experience since the last time I came was a disaster. As you can see below from my pictures, nothing remotely looks appetizing. The French onion soup was very greasy to the point where I could not finish it and ended up returning it. When I did, the waitress looked at me like I had 20 heads like really it wasn't good? The garlic bread was good of course not the burnt parts. I love seafood, this was probably the worst fried shrimp that I have ever had, I guess that explains why it's so cheap for $3.95, it was like eating hard rocks with an overload of breading. The tortufo for dessert was just simply vanilla & chocolate ice cream with nuts except that it was frozen solid and required a knife for us to cut it. It's like Jesus came down and made this himself." I honestly could not have said it better myself. DP's is a local spot that my brother introduced me to. They have been open longer than I've been on this Earth and I'm pretty sure the food has ALWAYS been heavenly. To reinforce just how amazing this place is, when I first found out I got a job across country and was moving out of New Jersey, one of my first questions was: how am I going to get my DP's fix. Every time I fly home for a holiday or family occasion, my brother knows that DP's has to be one of our stops while I'm home visiting. Without fail, I always get the same thing and it is absolutely mouthwatering every time. The chicken scampi app is my FAVORITE thing on their menu. Their garlic sauce is God's way of showing humanity he loves us. Get an extra side of the garlic sauce with anything you get!!! You won't regret it! As the main course, I usually get the sliced steak platter with brown gravy over the steak and fries and add mozzarella on the fries! (I know, heart attack on a plate, but at least I'd die in food heaven!) We usually also end up getting a Sangria pitcher. Not the kind of place you'd expect to have a good Sangria, but looks can be deceiving! It's always the icing on the cake when we go. Whether it's just me and my brother, or a bigger group of 5-6, they are always accommodating! It might take some time depending on the time you show up and party size so be ready to wait just in case... but it's worth it. They usually get busy around 7-8, especially on Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays. You've been forewarned. No matter what anyone gets when we go, there are never any complaints. I've gone with people who have ordered the french onion soup, chicken parm, stuffed shrimp, garlic fries, and so much more and they always left happy! I found this place via Yelp. I never would have thought to go here otherwise. It was the reviewer who mentioned they get their seafood fresh from NYC every day who convinced me to go. The ambiance is non-existent. It is a dive bar with some TVs, and old old woodwork for walls, bar and seat. However, that isnt a bad thing, as sometimes you are in the mood for that, and everything is very clean. The seafood is very very very fresh. They have a set menu and a list of daily specials. The specials sell out fast, especially on the weekends. Speaking of which, if you arrive after 6 on a Friday or Saturday, expect to wait over 30 mins for a seat at the bar, and double that for a table. If you stick with what they do well, you cant go wrong--the food is amazing! They do anything on the grill well: seafood, burgers, etc. I haven't had the steak, but I imagine it is good too. My boyfriend thought a $2.50 cheeseburger was going to be tiny so he ordered two. Spoiler alert: It's $2.50 for a full cheeseburger. They have a good variety of seafood also at amazing prices! A friend of mine told me about this place...we are both foodies and especially love seafood. We ordered a bunch of appetizers...2 shrimp coctails, steamed clams, french fries with garlic sauce, crab claws, and a few other things I'm missing, since we've returned many times since. The cocktail sauce is a little bland, so I always ask for a side of horseradish to mix in with it. For their low prices, I was absolutely amazed at the quality of the food. The crab claws (when they have them) are outstanding. I was very impressed with the food. That first time, we had multiple appetizers and a couple of drinks each and our bill was only around $45.00. I couldn't believe it. As I previously stated, I have returned many times since. There are always regulars in there, who are friendly. The bartenders are friendly and make a nice drink. They have a small, dirt parking lot behind the building, which can be a bit tricky getting out of if there are a lot of cars. There is also street parking if you're fortunate enough to find an open spot. This is definitely not a place to go for a romantic evening or upscale dining, but for some good, inexpensive seafood and drinks, this is the place to go. BTW, they do have items other than seafood on their menu, but I always get the seafood. After eating dinner there one evening, I did order a turkey club sandwich to take home to have as a late night snack...(I couldn't resist at $3.95) and it was very good! DP's Pub is definitely a hidden gem and super lucky to have discovered it. Today I checked out DP without any expectations and happy that I did. As soon as I walked in, it looked like just any ordinary pub but it smelled absolutely amazing! I noticed that they had some specials so I took advantage of it. I had the lobster bisque and oh my it was the tastiest bisque ever. It had large chunks of lobster, rich in flavor, and was a pretty descent portion too. The price of this bisque was great too and left me wanting more. For my entree, I ordered their signature garlic fries and broiled scallops. I haven't had fries like this before and my first encounter at DPs was a great one. The fries were crispy and it was drowned in this buttery garlic gravy. The broiled scallops had a nice hue to it, nicely seasoned, tender interior, and cooked perfectly. I love oysters, and have had them many places, the ones I had here today were the nicest looking, freshest tasting ones I've had anywhere.
