Just goes to show--you should never judge a book by its cover. Inside, it's your typical hometown bar, but the atmosphere was great and the bar food was delicious. Haven't been here in a while because of Covid, checked them out recently on a Friday night. There's a parking lot and parking on the street, across the street or you can park on Tanis Hardwares lot if they're closed. There's an outdoor patio for you if you smoke or wanna hang outside. There's a pool table and darts. The food here has always been excellent. Unfortunately, not many vegan options. They have the best homemade jalapeño peppers around. Plenty of bottled beers or beer on tap. Their "doggy bowl" is popular but I'm not a fan of the one time plastic, unless you're gonna take the cup home. Every time I come here for a quick bite it's always delicious. This is definitely the epitome of classic American bar style food with weight. After homecoming some of my frat and I came here to get some food and a drink. When I arrived I had to find parking on the street. I walked up and it was a local bar, hole in the wall. We got seats at the bar and Connie was the bartender/server and she was on point and friendly. My friends got food and it came out so quick. I tasted the Thai chili wings and it was tasty. While I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, this is a good little dive bar. The food whether it be the burger or the chicken or whatever is functional and there is a nice selection of beers surprisingly from local NJ beers to every generic beer you can think of from Guinness to Budweiser to Coors. It's quite close to WPU so there might be quite a big crowd during the school year but otherwise it's pretty quiet. Overall **** You got to be kidding me with this place! Ridiculously affordable, good food, friendly service, while not the prettiest to look at, it's absolutely worth a visit and should go from an Underdog to a Favorite. Setting ** Yelp said I had to try it but pulling up I thought this cannot be the place! Limited parking and practically windowless this looked very sketchy and I almost didn't go in. (I did later discover there is a parking lot just past it on the right) Eventually I mustered the courage, partly because I found a spot right in front, inside it is a complete dive bar, long and narrow, dark and garish complete with a pool table. It even had two old guys sitting at the bar milking their beers. There is a long wall facing bar that seats about 20, 3 high tops and only a few dining tables. There is also a stage with a DJ booth in the back. It's not pretty but it's pretty clean and relatively comfortable. Service **** The bartender Bev was ridiculously pleasant and sweet, knows everyone by name and those she doesn't she was quickly making friends with. She seemed to love her job and had no problem making recommendations. At 6:30 they switched bartenders and Bev asked me to cash out. Nicole (?) took over and she was a bubbly bundle of joy to everyone walking in but she seemingly went out of her way to completely ignore me so I left. When I first arrived it was mostly older folks there but by the time I left a younger crowd started coming in. Food **** Admittedly I didn't go big but is was "Taco Tuesday" and at $1 each I couldn't resist. You can get hard or soft shells, I went for the hard shell, they weren't amazing but still darn tasty. I was pretty full after those but I couldn't turn down a deep fried Hot Dog on a warm bun with Fries for $4!!! Very much hole in the wall dive bar but pretty spacious. Biggest con is probably parking but I parked at Walgreens till closing time and there weren't any issues. In addition while expected for it to be a little dingy the bathrooms were clean even though 1 stall didn't really close. But that overall toilet smell did waft into the immediate bar seated area. However, in terms of pros the service in the bar area where I was seated was pretty good with frequent check ins and friendly service. In the beginning my beer ended up being stale and the bartender switched out my beer and then changed the keg and brought me an extra beer which I felt was nice and courteous. The music was more of a modern vibe than classic dive bar but it worked! You can definitely tell it's a go to spot for some people but nothing horrible. We came here on a Sunday before a holiday, the crowd was diverse - football watchers, college kids, drunk townies, and us. Great people watching opportunities abound. Sunday is lovely day at Underdog...bacon. Tons of bacon items that actually taste really good. The bacon shell taco is not greasy, it's awesome. The bloody mary with bacon wrapped asparagus was spicy and just strong enough. If you're looking for a good dive bar, this is the place to go. I went here randomly with my boyfriend because a bar around the corner was packed and we were pleasantly surprised. We tried the wings and hot dogs, both were fairly price and came out soooo fast. The food was great though, I'm pretty picky about wings because I hate when they're dry but they were juicy and saucy. Another wonderful establishment down the street from WPU. Came here with friends on multiple occasions to hangout on Thursday nights after class. The staff is very friendly, plus they have dart boards in the back. Last time I was there, I remember they had specials on certain nights which got the bar very crowded so keep on the lookout for that. Not normally my thing, but I had to try it! I ordered the Jalapeno Poppers and really liked them. They definitely weren't frozen. My immediate impression of this place was fear. The vibe upon entering is shady and the people appear even shadier. However, within the 2 hours I spent at the Underdog Bar & Grill it formed a special place in my heart. While it looks like a typical dive bar upon entering, upon closer inspection - everything is clean. Almost as if they are purposely going for this type of look because someone is clearly "caring" for the place. No dust on the vents, no stickiness on the bar -- clean. My husband and I went on a Sunday evening. They have a "bacon menu takeover" which includes a taco with the shell made entirely of bacon and various other bacon items that also include bacon drinks. I can only speak for the bacon taco which was so good that I ordered a second. I had 2 Guinness and the pour was perfect on both and for only $3.50. My husband had a mozzarella and tomato salad which was on point and I also had jalapeño poppers which were stuffed with blue cheese and were good. The bartender was personable and pleasant and while the music from the juke box left a bit to be desired, overall - what an awesome find. I'm already planning a return trip. read more

The underdog is one of my favorite bars in all of New Jersey, I always go there whenever I am in the area. Underdog has really good food and the wings and burgers are some of the best you will find. They run a good happy hour special till 8:00 during the week and usually have a good band playing on Saturday nights. The bartenders are always friendly and helpful as well. Being a Willy p student, I didn't want that so stop me from my fun... so the closest place to the school was Underdog. And I don't regret it. It's a very chill place to relax, play pool, and play darts. Clean and cozy. Especially in the middle of the winter. Granted it was in the middle of a huge natural disaster. But the owner opened it up anyway and a few close friends and I had the place to ourselves. The owner was extremely accommodating and nice. He immediately guessed I was Filipino and my friends and I ended having long conversations of his travels to the Philippines, and how he loved the culture. So if you need some where to sit, have a drink, and someone talk to... talk to the owner lmao. Other than that, I did not have the food. But I had that huge concoction called the Doggie Bowl. Its very spacious and they have a few dart boards and a bar sized pool table. They also have some kind of stage although I've never seen it utilized. The TVs are big and plentiful too. I've had one meal there. It was great but probably not good for me..it was a fried hot dog wrapped in cheese and bacon. Price seem normal for a place of this type. Parking can be an issue, the lot can only hold a few cars and there is only about 3-4 street spots in front. The area outside can get a bit thuggish and as well as inside during some football games. Tried ordering delivery from them tonight. The order initially had a 45 min delivery window. After 45 mins, they changed it to 2 hours. I received tracking info that the driver was in his way to the restaurant to pick up my order. He was 40 mins away from the restaurant! I tried calling to see if I can just pick up, since I'm much closer to the restaurant then the delivery guy was. NO ANSWER! Tracking showed he arrived at restaurant, then I got an email that they cancelled my order. It's Sunday night and most restaurant are closed by the time they cancelled my order. Standard Haledon bar where everyone I went to school with goes during holidays. I literally had a mini reunion with everyone I graduated or went to high school with in 2011 one night during Thanksgiving weekend. Only have had the beer there, but I hear the wings are pretty solid. Sidebar: This place will always be memorable for seeing Treach from Naughty by Nature here, hanging out. Did he jump on their makeshift stage and belt out lines from his classics like "O.P.P." and "Feel Me Flow"? Alas, he did not. I would have loved to see him school me in some pool too, ala Fast Eddie Nelson, but I think he wanted to be left alone. This was my first visit to Underdog. It was 12:30pm on a Wednesday. I had to stay local since my car was in the shop. I saw a Haledon truck parked outside which gave me hope that the place wasn't empty. I ordered the $5.00 lunch special with the addition of an underdog. I watched the MLB Network and channel 7 news on one of at least 8 televisions while listening to modern country/pop music. Looking around, there's an ATM, digital Juke Box and three dart boards. The burger was fine with the half pound providing the majority of the meal. I really like the hot dog. There was a good combination of hot dog and cheese. The bun could had been softer though. I received sides of french fries for each meal. Appearantly everyone knows Bev since I heard that name often. read more
