It also had a pretty small portion of chicken in the sauce. I had a ton of leftover sauce and was still hungry after eating the meal. The sauce had a very strong tomato flavor so I would not recommend for someone who doesn't love tomato. It was not spicy. I would also not recommend if you're very hungry. There might be more filling options. the samosas were average. They came with the mint chutney which was tasty. The tamarind sauce was a little watery but had good flavor. Do NOT support these guys. I ordered delivery from then for the first time last night and my food took too long!! So after about a 1.5 hours wait after ordering, I call the place. No answer. I call again and let it ring and ring. No answer. So almost two hours in, I decide to drive up there and ask for my money back. I tried calling one more time on my way over there, and the guy finally picks up. I complain to him that, "I've waited nearly two hours for my food and why wasn't anyone answering their phone, it's very unprofessional and..." *dial tone* Dude just hung up on me! So my husband calls me right after on the other line to say the food arrived (as I was driving there and was just hung up on). So I swung back around and went home. Lo and behold, I get home, a tiny tiny bag is sitting on my kitchen counter (Mind you, my husband hates Indian food, so this was just for me and came to $28 with tax and delivery). I have been a big fan of Dosa for many years but the last several experiences have been so bad I don't think I will come back. I order the cauliflower lasuni and spinach channa almost weekly. The last several times the quality has been awful. The cauliflower is extremely expensive and lately every time i order there are less and less cauliflower and less and less flavoring. At this point you get 2/3 less than what dosa used to give when they opened and at double, if not triple, the price. The spinach channa is practically water when before is was thick and creamy. I met a friend from Brooklyn here. We are both South Indian dosa fans. My friend recommended the onion rava masala dosa and the shared plate okra. Both excellent recommendations. This place is IT. Incredibly crisp dosas, addictive rice (tamarind and coconut are too good), and good hearty curries (lamb is my favorite). Service is polite and hands-off. Came here with a friend and just tried the plain dosa and Masala dosa. They were pretty good and pretty authentic. The only time I've ever had dosas was when I was in India couple months ago, and it tasted pretty much similar. The dosas are huge! Just like in India. They were thin and crispy, and the chutneys that they were served with were flavorful. I thought one dosa wasn't gonna be enough food for me, but in the end, I was actually full/content. The Masala in the Masala dosa was ok. I also ordered the mango lassi and it was good. Full of mango flavor, and not overly sweet. It was a good blend of yogurt and mango. I recommend trying this. Dosa Royale is the place to be for dosa lovers! I've ordered it a few times through Seamless and been impressed with the fluffiness and quality of the bread/pastry, but wasn't blown away until I ate a fresh Dosa at the restaurant. I walked by and went in for lunch and had the masala (my favorite) in the restaurant and was able to enjoy the warm fluffiness of the dosa that I wasn't getting during delivery. I've also tried the sweet potato masala, veggie samosas (delicious) and the onion rava (also delicious). The dipping sauces are really great, my favorite is a ginger one that comes with the onion rava but I like all of them. The masala is my favorite dosa but I plan to try all of them at some point. I want to preface this review with nothing but praise for the food - the dosa's are crispy and authentic and the Sambhar is really delicious. However, we went to the outdoor restaurant on Sunday and we were appalled to see the server dressed like he's going to the gym - arm pits visible and no mask on. I know it's a violation and I could've called 311 but I like this place. I hope the owner is reading this because that was really despicable. I travelled all the way from Manhattan to Brooklyn to try their rawa masala dosa but turns out it's off their menu even though their website says they still have it. I got the masala dosa instead. The sambar was too sweet and thick, the chutney portions were too small, and the dosa itself was big but soft, lukewarm and coated with flavorless gunpowder masala. I go here here for the dosas about once a month, but haven't tried the curries. The rava dosa in particular is recommended. My wife finds the masala dosa to be very good. I grew up around a lot of Indian food and culture, so I've always been picky about my Indian food (you'd be surprised what they pass as "Indian food" in some places). So the day finally came when I decided to try Dosa Royale, and of course I had to get a dosa. My friend and I actually got a couple different kinds and split them. They were huge and delicious! Just like the dosa I'm familiar with from when I was growing up! They were so light and crispy with a lot of fresh Indian spices. They are served with a variety of flavorful dipping sauces. They were all so good I couldn't decide which one was my favorite! By the end of the meal I wished I had had more dosa to dip and finish the sauces! But I left full and satisfied. I also ordered the masala chai and they gave me like half a cup of it in a pint sized container. I'd try to eat in (outside) if you can, and if you're picking up your food just check inside the many to make sure everything's there. I don't really understand why they have such a problem getting takeouts right judging by the reviews, it's strange. Went to dosa royale on Diwali and we got the dosa masala and chicken chettinad. The dosa was perfectly crisp and the potato filling a great combination, I did think that the dosa was a bit sour but per my Indian boyfriend that's what it was supposed to taste like. I personally really enjoyed the chicken chettinad though it could have benefitted from a bit more heat. I have been waiting for a good South Indian place to open in Brooklyn and my prayers were answered when Dosa Royale opened it's doors. Top notch Indian Restaurant. I have been both in person and ordered from the restaurant through Caviar. The samosas are delicious. They are not the standard you can get from other Indian restaurants. These samosas, especially the coconut samosa are an ode to south indian flavors. The uttapam is nice and spicy- perfect for brunch on a cold morning. The dosas at this restaurant are the star of the show. All of them are delicious but my favorite is the masal dosa. Perfect crapes filled with spices and potatoes to brighten your morning. I feel sad giving Dosa Royale such a bad review as I've loved their food for the past 6 years and when it's delivered swiftly it's amazing. However after the second time of waiting over 2 hours I can't trust them any more. When you get home from work at 7.30 and by 9.30 you're trying to find a way of finding out where your food is it's not cool. Because also their phone number goes straight to voicemail and no-one answers. So you have to contact seamless and go through the whole procedure just to get a refund and then find another way of getting food at 10pm. Again, it makes me sad as their food is SO GOOD and I've been loyal for so long but this is it for me. I hope the management finds a way of dealing with the orders more efficiently - maybe they're taking on too many orders to deal with? Who knows but this isn't the way to retain loyalty. read more

My husband and I are South Indian and we grew up eating this kind of food. Authentic south indian food is missing from the Brooklyn scene and they did a really good job. We ordered the following: Mixed Veg Utthapam - great flavor. Both the chutneys and sambar that accompanied were excellent and authentic Idli - again great chutney and sambar Eggplant Kolumbu - great flavor. Reminded me of a similar dish called Bagara Baingan from Hyderabad Coconut rice - delicious. A great side Aviyal - this was the one dish that felt less authentic.
