    Sweet potato masala dosa
    Macarena O.

I came with my husband without reservation during valentines and we got seated at the bar right away. The service here is exceptional. We got the sweet potato dosa which was SO good! All the sauces were delicious, same as the dosa itself. Then we got the lamb biryani and it was also very good but it's spicy so be ready for some heat. Good pricing, food, ambiance and service - definitely recommend it!

I could not be happier that the Dosa Royale opened walking distance from our home in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. A few days before the restaurant officially opened, I was standing outside the soon to open restaurant. I was checking out the menu and talking to another neighbor who was also looking forward to the grand opening The owner, an absolutely lovely gentleman, Venkat Raju, came outside to greet us. He asked us if we would like to come inside and see the restaurant before they opened. Of course, we both said "yes." The owner could not have been nicer or more welcoming. The space is modern, warm and cozy. I let him now, that once they officially opened that I would be back. We have already had dinner at Dosa Royale twice. We loved everything about it and, it is definitely going to be our regular spot for delicious south Indian food. The food was fantastic. The owner remembered me, came over to our table to chat and went out of his way to help with recommending dishes and made us feel so welcome. Everything we ordered during both visits delicious. Incredible service and amazing food. Some of the dishes we had (and highly recommend) - veggie samosas - crispy, not oily, just yummy. The Dhai Vada - soft, fried lentil fritters with a creamy spiced yogurt and herb sauce. We ordered a Masala Dosa. Wow, it was so good and very large. Best Dosa I have eaten. For bread we had Poori - my favorite. For a curry dish we had the veggie Korma and, enjoyed it very much. We also had the Butter Chicken served with rice, another wonderful dish. I also had a mango lassi. I was so full but it was so good! A wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Highly recommend. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Wanted to find a cozy dinner spot and stumbled upon Dosa Royale! On Valentine's Day we were seated right at the bar which was perfect. We ordered a sweet potato dosa and lamb shank biryani to share as it was a special of the day. The dosa was thin and crispy and came with delicious sauce. The biryani was very spicy with intense spices which I enjoyed! The staff and owner were so kind and attentive and we were chatting throughout our dinner. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Perfect Sunday brunch. Food was fresh and tasty, and was fun to eat. Added an egg (+$1.50 according to menu ) and made it spicy (+$1) Didn't feel great that the prices listed on the menu for "add-on's" was half the price vs. what we were charged. We got the bill and it was a total of 20$ more than expected for the three of us. The samosa chaat was very small for $13 lol it was good but not memorable. We did get to sit outside which was nice and the perfect day for it.

There's not too many places you can order Dosa for delivery, so I was excited to try Dosa Royale. We ordered the original potato dosa, a sweet potato dosa, fried cauliflower and okra. The original potato dosa was amazing. The potato was seasoned perfectly, the dosa had great flavor and texture, and it was a huge portion - especially for the $12 price. I thought regular potato was substantially better than the sweet potato. On the downside, the okra was ok and the cauliflower was lacking by a lot. Order the potato dosa - it was a delicious dinner!

This is why it's good to try things even if their ratings are mid-average. I really just didn't feel like cooking when I got off work yesterday and I remembered this spot was in the neighborhood and fairly affordable. I was super happy with the portions and overall experience and will definitely return. I also read that they have a lunch special I absolutely plan on taking advantage of. So, what did I get? I got: - Vegetable Samosas ($7) comes with 2 and 2 sauces - Sweet Potato Masala ($13) + add gunpowder seasoning ($1) - Coconut Rice Pudding ($7) The rice pudding may have been on the smaller side, but it was the perfect amount for me to where I didn't feel overstuffed. The veggie samosas were delicious and crispy and stuffed well. They were mild in flavor but a nice start to my dinner. The sweet potato dosa was HUGE, I mean just look at my pics, it took up the whole table which made me super happy. The dosa was wafer thin and delightfully crispy. I definitely want to try some of their other options. Service was standard. Interior is definitely fast-casual, it gives more of a grab and go vibe but still not bad if you dine in. Bookmark if you need to treat yourself but don't want to totally break the bank.

Lots of choices on the menu with veg and vegan options (no ghee). quick friendly service, reasonable prices, tasty sauces and fillings. We had mixed veg soup that was hot and garlicky, followed by saag paneer and masala potato dosas. Curries, rice, samosas and other veg options are on the menu along with beer, wine, chai, lassi. Looking forward to going back.

Ordered from here and got a long string of plastic in my butter chicken. It was also over an hour late and was ice cold when it got here. It tastes alright but the plastic was most likely from a pre-packaged bag of butter chicken sauce. Update: found another piece of plastic. Looked at some reviews about people finding hairs and other similar issues. Not ordering from here again

    Spinach and mushroom dosa
    Vishnu G.

I had the spinach and paneer dosa, which came with sambar and two types of chutney. I liked that the sambar had a nice balance of sweetness with the warming spice, which is how we normally make it at home. The dosa itself had a good texture: not too dry even though the dosa was huge. The only drawback is that it started to get a little soggy at the end as the spinach soaked into the dosa. The filling was spicy and flavorful. We ended up waiting a bit longer than expected for the food to come out.

    Kadai Curry

This place used to be one of the best spots for Indian food. But my god has their food quality fallen off the cliff. I ordered kadai chicken and it's inedible. It's just tastes like chicken with ketchup gravy. Spoiling the good name of Indian cuisine. WILL NOT ORDER FROM HERE AGAIN.

We chose bar seating, which ended up being a bit of a tight squeeze facing the wall; not the most comfortable setup, but manageable for a short meal. To start, we had the pani puri, followed by the samosa chaat. The flavors were good, but the samosa chaat was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the samosa itself was soggy rather than crisp. That contrast in texture is really what makes the dish shine, so it felt like it may have sat a bit too long or was over-sauced. We also tried the vegetable pav, which was decent, and the cod, which was actually very good; nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. I did find myself wishing we had an extra roti to soak up the rest. For drinks, I had the mango lassi, which I appreciated for not being overly sweet. Service was okay but could be more attentive. My water wasn't refilled after a couple of rounds, and we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We were given the check without being asked about dessert, which caught us off guard. We did ask afterward, but by then decided to go elsewhere. That said, the food overall is flavorful, and I can see why this place has appeal; especially if you're looking for something a little different in the neighborhood. Having met the owner before in Industry City, it's great to see her doing well in Carroll Gardens, and I wish the restaurant continued success.

Since then, we've dined in, and taken out, and the food has been unfailingly delicious. If you can swing it, dining in is always the move. Unlike the aforementioned sushi joint, Dastaan has decorated to make the small space much more colorful, and infinitely more welcoming. It seems to be a family business, judging by the somewhat surly (teenage?) waitress, but she was still there for anything we needed. Plus, you'll get some complimentary papadum with homemade tamarind and green sauce. But either way, the food will be good. The naan is fresh and fluffy, the poori is delightful (this airy goodness is dine-in only, I'd imagine), the lasuni gobi starter is one of my favorite things, and the curries are all deeply rich and flavorful. We've had korma, bhuna, and saag, with seafood or chicken or paneer or lamb. We've of course had chicken tikka masala and butter chicken (I'd prefer dark meat in the latter for taste and juiciness, but I imagine I'm in the minority). All of it has been super, super tasty. One of my kids is coming around to the fact that Indian food can be amazing, the other will only eat rice and mango lassi. But Dastaan gives me hope that some day they'll crave it like I do. We're going to keep coming in, and taking out.

I would highly recommend the Ghati Chicken and Szechuan Noodles and can't wait to go back to try their other dishes. Service was a bit slow because they were understaffed, but despite this, the two servers were excellent and did their best to get to everyone. We ordered the sweet and sour eggplant as an appetizer and struggled over decision paralysis before settling on chicken tikka masala and a mango lassi for her and lamb vindaloo for me, plus a bread basket. Our waitress, seemingly oblivious to the notion of profit, warned us we were ordering too much bread before saying, "You could always bring some home," and explaining that the bread basket would consist of our choice of four different naan. More decision paralysis! We picked plain, garlic, onion, and peshwari naan. The eggplant was good, breaded and fried and served with cilantro and tamarind chutneys. Our entrees came out soon after we finished. My girlfriend enjoyed her chicken, and my lamb was tender and spicy without being overwhelmingly so. Each entree was accompanied by a portion of basmati jeera, and the rice was perfectly cooked. The naan were all good, and my girlfriend and I both agreed the peshwari naan was the winner of the pack. The sweet, nutty bread complimented and contrasted the spicy curry of my lamb vindaloo, and my "best bite" was mopping up some of the sauce with it. Sure enough, we had leftovers both of our entrees and 3/4 pieces of naan (two guesses as to which got eaten on the spot), and lunch the next day was delicious. Stumbling distance from the 7 Ave F/G.
