A cute shop with a few tables and chairs in a pretty popular area. It's pretty much self service where you order from a kiosk. I had high hopes for this place but the mochi donut was too dense and doughy and any flavors with sugar coating glaze on top was just way too much. I'm not sure if it's because we came in on the late side (7pm) but not right when they were closing, which cause the donuts to not taste so fresh? I've tried a lot of mochi donuts and the texture is supposed to be light and chewy. This was definitely not it. The flavoring also tasted very artificial. We had the black sesame, banana and the pistachio, all 3 had a thick glaze of sugar on top. None really tasted like the flavor as advertise except the banana due to having banana chips as garnish.
I'm not typically a sweets/dessert person but this place caught my eye. Very clean and professional looking, easy to read menus. I ordered just a lemonade peach flavored only because it was close to opening and the selection of donuts were pretty small. They seem to offer cool flavors of donuts. I'll revisit when I'm back in the area
Best Donuts I have ever eaten in my life. These are not your ordinary donuts, however so delicious you can't stop eating them.
We purchased the Blueberry Donut and Strawberry Fresh Cream Croffle - both items tasted great! Taste wise, the Croffle reminded me of a strawberry shortcake or funnel cake. The interior is rosy, so a very different vibe than a traditional donut shop or bakery. There is a decent amount of seating, but a lot of people just grabbed their order and left. It was only about a 5-10min wait for our pastries and Boba and that was with 1-2 orders ahead of us, so the staff moves fairly fast. If you're looking for a sweet treat that's a little different than your traditional donut, then Donutchew is right up your alley.
Hey friends! I'm back with another sweet treat review. Donuts are definitely in my top 3 sweet treats. We ordered the half-dozen donuts($18). I ordered the plain donut, churro donut and Oreo donut. My boyfriend ordered the pistachio raspberry, strawberry milk, Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They have an array of unique flavors. These are the second best donuts I ever had! The texture is very light and airy. They're also the perfect amount of sweet. You can tell the donuts are baked fresh daily. Ambiance is cute and inviting. There a few tables inside to sit down at. Customers place orders via the kiosk and orders come out within 10 minutes. Staff was friendly. There's limited street parking out front and plenty free garage parking. I can't wait for my next trip to Donut Chew! While they're on the pricey side, ($18 for 6 donuts) they're worth every cent! Enjoy and be safe. With love, The Picky Pescatarian.
First visit won't be our last! Impromptu visit on the way to Dave & Busters with the boyfriend, our usual Bubble Tea place, Kung Fu Tea was mobbed so we moved on. Completely knew about Donutchew but had forgotten they also have bubble tea! Boyfriend got a strawberry matcha, I got a pineapple slush, we shared a blueberry donut. First time for both of us trying mochi donuts and I must say it was hard not to stop by on the way back and get more. Fresh, light and delicious! My pineapple slush was easily as good as Kung Fu Tea, and he said his strawberry matcha was amazing. Store was clean and welcoming, employees friendly and efficient, and it just *felt* like a place I want to return to--although now that I've tried the donuts and slush it's not just a feel, it's a reality. We will return, probably not too far in the future, and once we try a few more things I'm certain I will be upgrading to the 5th star. THIS is how to do it--keep up the great work!
Late nights are just right for mochi donuts and boba/juice teas After hanging out a party, we had a sudden urge for boba and mochi donuts. Luck for us there was a Mochi donut shop open late. What's a mochi donut? Imagine, small tender piece of dough connected to another in a tasty chain to form a perfectly round shape of a donuts. They positively melt in your mouth, with the dough and icing come in various flavors. How do you order? There's a few touchscreens, where you can order your food and beverage selections. I ordered 2 donuts and a pleasantly delicious fruit tea. My order was provide fairly quickly, everyone was given a number when ordering. The decor is this beautiful pale pink, decorated with pink chairs and accentuated with a lovely indoor flower garden. This location had a mixture of people, late night people hanging out, young women seeking sweet treat and a table of older gentlemen discussing politics. Considering this location is in a "town center" it makes perfect sense that this has the city late night vibe. Its a beautiful local, with excellent hours, great service and a tranquil atmosphere and tasty treats. If you find yourself in the area, you should definitely check them out.
Each donut is $3.50. I got an Uber and churro. They both pretty much tasted the same. It is thick. I also got a lemonade, super sugary. In terms of decor, it does look nice. The chairs are unsturdy though. I wouldn't come here again.
Thursday 2/29/2024 Always saw this spot when I go to the movies so today I finally decided to try it for the first time. I got an Oreo donut $3.50 and an Oreo croffle $6.50. The Oreo donut was pretty good. The Oreo croffle was decent but could've been way better if the waffle was warm instead of cool/room temperature. Also $6.50 for the croffle is a little pricey for what you get. Overall, It's a cool donut spot that I'd be open to returning to in the future.
This cafe is super cute and has a good size menu. The service was also great. I tried the banana and Nutella waffle; it was delicious! There was a burnt oil smell which was lingering in the cafe.
*****3.5 stars***** Come for the croffles, skip the bubble tea. I really enjoy the croffles (croissant waffles) here. Banana nutella is better than the matcha chocolate, which is better than the strawberry fresh cream. The croffles are crispy/crunchy on the outside and soft/flaky on the inside. So good! Even with the various toppings that get added to them, the croffles aren't that sweet surprisingly. These are definitely deadly! I also tried the Strawberry matcha milk tea with boba, which was a big no no. You could taste hints of strawberry milk tea but no matcha at all. Boba was undercooked and hard. Thinking maybe I ordered the wrong one, I also tried some of the strawberry milk tea with boba and strawberry fresh tea with boba. Again the strawberry milk tea was watered down and barely had any strawberry flavoring. The strawberry fresh tea was the best out of the three, but still a no go. Both had undercooked boba. Never again. Service was pretty good, especially since it was rather busy both the times I visited. The croffles are made fresh, so definitely have some patience. There's a few tables for you to enjoy your goodies at, but it seems like most order to go
One of the newest additions to the RIo. Next to Fantasticks. Inside its very cozy and hip. They have Mochi donuts and croissant waffles and other good sweet stuff. They even have slushies and various types of bubble teas. My first time in here, I had a meet up date with one of my favorite gal pal. A true friend indeed who drove far to see me. She had ordered donuts and they looked good, so I bookmarked in my mind for future visits. The Cafe is very clean and spacious. A cool spot to Tiktok or post for the Gram. Very friendly employees. The mochi donuts are my new thing, they are made with rice flour and they are delectable. Very light and fluffy.. One or two mochi donuts are not enough. Red Velvet is my favorite.. I definitely need to come back and try more stuff!
12.22.22 My friend and I stopped in around 11:30 on. Wednesday. The interior is so pretty and feminine with flowers adorning the pink walls. Aside from mochi donuts and boba teas, they also sell croffles and coffee. We ordered half a dozen donuts and I ordered a taro milk tea. Our server informed us that the regular boba would not be ready for another hour. He suggested the crystal boba and informed me that it wasn't very sweet, which is why he liked it. The texture wasn't the same so I would prefer to stick with the regular. (Sorry I forgot to take a pic.) The plastic cups are flimsy and I accidentally dropped the cup and it splattered all over my wool coat, new leather handbag, and Ugg boots. Of course, they are all items that you can't machine wash. Ugh!! I spent a few minutes trying to clean it up before it set in. I got an Ube donut and an Oreo for my husband. We have become addicted to mochi donuts. Of all the shops we've tried, this was my favorite. They are fresh and have the perfect chewiness and sweetness. I am definitely a fan and can't wait to come back to try their croffles, which also look amazing!
I just can't pass Donutchew without stopping in for a mochi donut! Their donuts come out fresh, warm, and delicious. Okay, everyone has their favorite and the Ube donut is mine. Service was excellent. I went in and was waited on right away. Within a few minutes I was on my way with my tasty treat. The ambiance is beautiful. The pink soft comfortable seating and beautiful floral decorations are so warm and inviting. My Ube donut was everything I wanted and more. If you stop in Donutchew once, I can promise you, that you will be back for more. Enjoy. read more

I came in needing my morning coffee and was immediately greeted by a friendly and helpful employee. She recommended the raspberry pistachio donut and it did not disappoint! It was so delicious! The store itself is tidy and has cute decor - just be careful of the broken tile near the counter. read more

I tried a few of the croffles from here and they're pretty unique! Out of the strawberry, banana Nutella, chocolate, crème brûlée, and Oreo croffles, my favorite is the strawberry. The whipped cream is lighter compared to the other croffle toppings and the slight tartness of the strawberries helps balance out the overall sweetness. The croffle itself is crispy and delicious! The chocolate, banana Nutella, and Oreo croffles are good, but a little to heavy and sweet for me. The crème brûlée was the most disappointing because it tasted like artificial flavored vanilla pudding. But, I'm glad I tried the croffles because I have a new snack at Donutchew! read more

I am visiting in the area and was told to come here to try their mochi donuts. The donuts were amazing! They're both soft and chewy which is exactly what I was looking for in a mochi donut!! I got the churro, Oreo, ube, smores, and strawberry. My favorite was either the oreo or ube! read more
I had never tried a mochi donut (a donut made with rice flour instead of wheat flour) butvi was curious to taste them, so I walked by this shop and went in. Donut Chew is a franchise that was started in Virginia, and this particular store is located at the Rio Complex 8n Gaithersburg, MD. The shop is tastefully decorated with wreaths of roses and lemonade colors. The various mochi donut favors (with pictures) are prominently displayed. I chose the churro-flavored donut and it was delicious. It has a pleasant chew, but not as much as traditional mochi. Like most Asian deserts, it was not overly sweet, with a light covering of cinnamon sugar. I also had a latte, which was also very good. The service was excellent, very friendly. read more

Food was great, the prices are high compared to tiki doki. The location is prime and that what you are paying for. The Nutella and banana waffle was special. I can't wait to try the others. The bubble tea was okay, nothing special. They have Ube bubble tea +$1. Is it worth it? DM me if it's Service was quick for a busy night (winter fireworks). The chairs are comfy and my girls loved the amount of pink all over the place! An easy 4 stars! The prices are high, again you pay for convenience of being able to walk around Rio. read more

I come here whenever I'm craving mochi donuts. The mochi donuts here are delicious and they have a lot of different flavors. My favorites are the matcha, ube and earl grey. They also have coffee, bubble tea and croffles. The interior is pretty cute and there is a decent amount of seating available. The person at the register was friendly and helpful. read more
I'm rarely in the area so I didn't know this place existed until I pulled up. I originally came for another store but decided to try them as well. This shop is SO pretty. That's what immediately drew my attention. It's pretty in pink. There were a lot of donut flavors to choose from but I chose the red velvet because you can't really go wrong with red velvet. My daughter chose the fruity pebbles donut. The taste was good but since she didn't eat it right away, the cereal was stale by the time she did. Personally, I hadn't had a mochi donut before so my mind couldn't even comprehend what was happening upon my first bite. It was so soft and chewy. It was easily one of the best donuts I've ever had. I also ordered a strawberry lemonade and it was really tasty. There are so many items to choose from. I wish I would've ordered more items to go. read more

4.5 Stars for Mochi donuts. I'm no stranger to Donutchew. I've been to the Annandale location many a times and love the chewy, sweet concoctions they create. Some of their flavors can be hit/miss (like the Red Velvet and Earl Grey) but My all time fav's are their Nutella, Strawberry (kiddos love the strawberry picky stick that it comes with), and Lotus, (who doesn't love a biscoff cookie on top of a donut?!). These were a bit on the wet side (frosting) compared to Annandale's. I also got a strawberry cream croffle for my little one as well; she loved it and I liked that it had a nice "crunch" to each bite. Cute inside with insta-worthy photo spots. DonutChew opened this past week at RIO. Stopped by to check it out and got Matcha and Earl Grey donuts. They were tasty. Could definitely taste the matcha. Earl Grey tasted more like honey. I think my niece still has some weird taste buds from covid and says they both just tasted sweet to her. They've got a bunch of mochi donut flavors. They've got croffles too. And they had macarons in the case at the front counter. A handful of tables indoors for seating. The seats against the wall have the flowers and mirrors. Didn't sample the milk/bubble tea cause we were heading to KFT on the other end of RIO, but will probably get coffee next visit. The shop is cute. They took over the Starbucks space so there's lots of room! read more
In short these desserts taste mid for it's price I expected to be blown away. It's more of a influencer trap. Looks good but taste mid. 3.5 stars max I was also expecting it to be fresh, but they both came out from the fridge cold especially the oreo waffle. I dont know if that's normal but I prefer/expected it to be soft at room temperature. read more
Got to check out the new DonutChew next to Fantasticks in Rio yesterday! We hadn't been to the one in Annandale before, and this was my first time trying a croffle! We didn't get a mochi donut but they had some pretty interesting flavors, maybe next time! Honeydew Fruit Tea: I'm a big sucker for honeydew drinks. The honeydew flavor was on point although kind of wish I could have reduced the sweetness level because this was pretty darn sweet. But that might have translated to a not-as-strong of a honeydew flavor because I noticed they had their flavors lined up in syrup canisters behind the counter. I also wasn't given a size option so I guess what you order is what you are getting. Strawberry Cream Croffle: I'd seen some earlier reviews saying that some of the other flavors weren't the best, but those who tried the strawberry cream seemed to like it so decided to give it a try. I was really surprised at how CRISPY the croffle came out to be! Granted we ate it in store and pretty much when it came out, but after cutting through it several times and while eating, I didn't notice the texture get much soggier from the cream or fresh strawberries on top. I liked that the cream also wasn't too sweet. Besides mochi donuts, croffles, and teas, they also had a display or macaroons with interesting flavors. I can see how their unique selection of drink flavors puts them on the map and can't wait to try some more flavors! read more
Donutchew opened their Gaithersburg location 2 days ago! It's very similar to the Mochi donut place at the Spot, but they serve drinks and other pastries too! I tried their mango, yogurt, Nutella, and fruity pebble Mochi donuts. The actual dough tasted a little sweeter than other Mochi donuts I've had. Their icings were great-I really enjoyed the ones I tried. The also really appreciated the bakery's aesthetic. The only thing I would have to complain about are their prices. $3 for a donut seems crazy to me and keeps me from being a regular. read more

Went here on Donutchew's opening week and was not disappointed! As a matter of fact, I've ever enjoyed a dessert nearly as much as these in some time! The balance of sweet and savory, and the richness of the flavors in the croffles made me want more, even though I was full. Want to experience the best strawberries and creme of your life? It's here! And the creme brûlée croffle was no slouch either! The mouchi donuts are pretty standard, but I really haven't been anywhere that has had one that stood out just yet. First time walking in here Sunday evening and you get introduced with a STRONG smell of brunt fry oil. After I put my order in through the kiosk one of the employees (there was only two guys working) immediately went to the bathroom. They both were just sitting down chatting. Heard them talking about just wanting to clock out even though there were two full tables already sitting inside. Dudes didn't even read my order requests properly. The smell of burnt oil STUCK to our clothes and it reeked. At least one of the guys tried to do his job but I'll likely not come back. Drinks were meh. No service at all but interior decor was nice. Other than the smell of burnt fry oil, I don't know why the employees didn't bother about that. read more
I hate how much I love the mochinuts and croffles here. I am an avid fan of the ube donut and a loyal customer at that. I've tried all the flavors except churro, lemon, and red velvet. The texture of the Mochinut is phenomenal!!! And the croffle texture is also ridiculous. I love all the layers in every bite. The cream isn't too heavy or sweet. Randomly I like the honeydew milk tea here too. Their bobas are usually soggy but this is a pastry spot and not boba. read more
Not bad, but not the best! I'm making this review solely off of the one mochi donut and boba I got. Jasmine Milk Green tea [2/5] The boba was not the best. Not worth $5.75. at least. The store only has one size. The bubbles had a weird texture. It was more like jelly rather than tapioca chewy balls? Maybe they were over cooked. The drink also could've had a bit more sweetness, tasted more like jasmine tea than milk tea but still there was something a bit off about the tea itself. Not as fragrant as a good jasmine tea in my opinion. I bet their other drinks may be better. The fruit drinks looked pretty good when I saw the worker making it!! Strawberry Mochi Donut [4/5] Donut was tasty but then again it was a bit expensive. Almost four bucks for it?? It was a cold donut, the strawberry sauce on top hardened into an oreo creme texture. Tasted good tho, reminds me of the strawberry pocky flavor. Good texture too. I think the strawberry mochi donut can also use a bit more decor:( It was literally just the donut base dipped halfway into strawberry cream. Nothing else on top other than a pocky stick thrown over. Place is cute tho but too small. On busy days it is packed and there's def not enough seating for everyone. I went on a very chill weekday but still the drinks were delayed. Only one teen worker the whole time. But I'll be back and I'll update my review!! read more
