I am a gourmet cook and an epicurean who have been dinning around the world and this is the worst dinning experience I've had so far. No utensils or napkins offered. Two Tasteless oysters gone bad and I had to spilt them out. Do you know what bad oysters could do to a person?!!!The horseradish sauce for the oysters probably is not freshly grated or has gone bad since it is so bitter! Not the good kind of "spicy"you want. No apologies and no response whatsoever from the short blonde waitress when I brought up the issues. The catfish with etouffee on top is so salty that it's like you are eating salt. You can't even make it taste less salty with the rice. When the food is that salty, you can't taste anything in it. What a waste of food and money! When u order a big bowl of etouffee only, they only give you very thin soup with only a few solid seafood chunks in it. No to-go bags offered or greetings when you enter or exit. Worst place when it comes to food and service. I would give it 0 star if I could. read more

Came here because we were staying at Marriott across the street. Our waiter Marcus was the best. There were 7 of us, we all had something unusual in our orders, and he delivered flawlessly. Marcus has a great sense of humor and made the dinner awesome. Food was better than average, mixed drinks and beers were good too. read more

Don's seafood is the place to go for great seafood and reasonable prices and great service!

My sister and I both ordered the "stuffed" shrimp. We also had a fried alligator appetizer. The alligator was not atrocious however the stuffed shrimp was more like butterflied shrimp atop a mushy pile of what tasted like vomit. I also asked what sides the shrimp came with and the waitress replied only mashed potatoes. It came out with mashed potatoes and green beans. She apparently didn't hear my sister order the shrimp also because she only brought out one entrée. My sister asked where her shrimp were and she said she didn't know she wanted one also. Then my sister asked if she had to get green beans and the waitress said she could pick a different side. I replied well I would have preferred a side salad instead of green beans too. She didn't even acknowledge that I said anything to here. The food was so terrible my sister barely even ate hers. Gravely disappointed in the food. Waitress seemed to be new but she did give us both a complimentary dessert which was a nice gesture. Opened the desserts which she gave us to go when we got to the car and the cheesecake looked mushy like it was melting, eventhough she gave it to us less than 5 minutes ago. The bread pudding was a frozen brick. Was so looking forward to eating here too. read more

Stayed at the Courtyard next door for a funeral last month. I married into a Cajun family who was raised on seafood. We walked in and we're knocked over by the stench of seafood smells which indicates the food is not fresh. Fresh seafood does not have an odor! We walked out without being seated as we didn't want to chance getting sick. If you like taking a risk you're on your own. read more

I am visiting my hometown, and when I requested oysters for dinner, my family informed me they've recently changed loyalties from Acme to Don's regarding charbroiled oysters. OK! So to Don's we went. I'd say they were delicious enough, though inconsistent in size. One day we came and they were HUGE and a week later we came and they were TINY. I'm used to places compensating for tiny oysters by throwing in an extra one or two, but no such luck here. Is this common or bad luck on our part? I personally don't think they oysters are much different from at Acme, and think I may like Acme's seasoning blend a little better. We also tried the gumbo, which was waterier than I am used to seeing but *very* delicious, the soft shell crab pasta which was not up my alley (the batter the crab was fried in took away from the taste, IMO, but sauce was yummy), but the person who ordered it loved it. We also had the dungeness crab, which I thought was *delicious* and very nicely cooked, but I was left wondering if something else could have been served with it. I am a novice at eating crabs, so maybe this is blasphemy, but I wanted a dipping sauce or something, maybe some butter? Overall though, service has been great each time we've come, and I love the atmosphere, landscaping, and overall look of the space. Wish I was in town longer to try the other menu items! I also wish the menu had a few more options, but I get what they are going with. Overall, a very solid place for a meal, but a few tweaks would have made me a little happier overall. Consider compensating for little oysters with some bonus ones and broadening the menu a smidge and I might become a convert too... but not quite yet. read more

I guess we were here on a bad day. We are traveling through going back through to Texas. I was wanting a shrimp poboy like I've had before traveling through La. It's Sunday so a lot of places are closed. This place had decent reviews and is close to the interstate so it looked like a good choice. Yeah, not so much. Even though we were the only customers at first, it took longer than i would have thought to get our food. First of all, let me say that we are not picky eaters. My husband ordered the "jacked up shrimp". Jacked up is an understatement. If you want little masses of greasy globules of butter cheese and shrimp, this is your dish. It was so unappetizing looking and tasting, my husband ate two bites and just couldn't finish it because he was afraid it would make him sick it was so greasy. I ordered the half shrimp poor boy and chicken andouille gumbo. Listen, I worked in Louisiana for two and half years. I've had some shrimp po boys, I know what they're supposed to look like. This was a half a loaf of french bread with approximately 10 small, clearly previously frozen breaded shrimp... This is Louisianna for gosh sake. At least have enough state pride to serve a legit poboy. The gumbo was the best thing about the meal and even it was flavorless... Clearly without a roux base. The manager was very nice when she realized our dissatisfaction but i'm pretty sure this probably wasn't a unique situation. Next time we are going through we won't be stopping here read more

Food is fair at best. Do not be fooled by the "1/2 price beer, All day, Everyday" ad. They charge $9.50 for a pint of local beer! Most restaurants in the surrounding area and even on the Lakefront sell pints of craft beer for $5.00 - $5.25 so you are really saving $1.00 at best and it's not even 1/2 price. It's buy one get one free so you have to buy in multiples of two! Ridiculous. Talk about misleading! Won't be going back for the drink "specials" . That's for sure. read more

We used to go to Don's for crawfish when they first opened and the crawfish were pretty darn good. After the first season the crawfish were not so good. Tonight I really wanted some crawfish so we decided to give Don's another try. I am so glad we did. They were really busy for Valentine's Day but the crawfish were very good and the service was excellent! read more

My server - Alyssa was wonderful! I visited while traveling for business so I was alone. Often times at restaurants, servers ignore or act irritated about serving 1 guest. This was not the case with Alyssa - she was attentive and helpful with recommendations. The gumbo was so flavorful. I had crawfish étouffée and shrimp also. Absolutely wonderful. I loved the hush puppies also. Great experience and recommend this place to everyone. read more

We got the Jacked Up Shrimp excellent and we got the Grilled Stuffed Shrimp excellent. This is the first time we have eaten here and we are VERY impressed. They also have two for one Bloody Marry drinks and Beer and Margarita drinks. We will definitely come back here. read more

Gumbo was excellent! My shrimp salad had a generous serving of well seasoned, but rather small shrimp with iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onions, and croutons. I wouldn't order the salad again. read more

Horrific. Ordered 2 on tap beers. Took one sip and it tasted like soapy dish water. So bad I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. The water tasted like they got it from the pond out front. I ordered a 1/2 shrimp 1/2 oyster plate. Portion was very small. 8 small shrimp that they cut almost in half to fry. Never had shrimp mutilated like that. Guess it's supposed to make them appear bigger. Tail shell was still on as well. 6 oysters. 2 big, 2 small, and 2 that were pieces of an oyster. Oysters tasted good. 2 girls had crawfish. Overpriced at $6.50 a lb but that's what they wanted so. 1 found some kind of strange bug that was boiled with them. Made for a few laughs when it somehow disappeared from the table. Girlfriends meal appeared ok with no complaint probably because she couldn't taste it after that toilet water beer. $112 dollars later and now it's 2 am and I have heartburn. This restaurant was crowded and I don't know how other than the fact that Covington is overpopulated. Worst meal I've had in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the memories. read more

This is a great restaurant! I'm not a seafood connoisseur but the raw oysters were tasty. All our dishes tasted great but my favorite was the Cajun Ravioli. You have got to try this - melts in the mouth!! The price was equally great, we are a family of five and we ate for $110 - that includes an appetizer, alcohol and dessert. I used to love Don's Seafood. I usually go to the one in Hammond where I have noticed the portion sizes getting smaller and smaller, while the prices have gone up. I ate at this location just last week with my boyfriend and his mother. The server was nice, but it took a very long time to get our food and drink refills, and the place wasn't busy at all. Also, we sat on the patio and every table besides ours needed to be bused. Napkins were flying around the patio from the wind, and no one ever came to clean them. We ordered the boudin balls for an appetizer, crabmeat au gratin, the (all-you-can-eat) fried fish and shrimp special, and the red beans. The tiny plate of crabmeat au gratin was paired with a tiny side of mushy potatoes. It definitely was not worth the $21, as I left hungry. The fried catfish and shrimp special came with two thin pieces of fish. When my boyfriend requested more, only two pieces were brought out at a time (which took forever by the way). It certainly wasn't worth paying for "all-you-can-eat" since by the time we got his first catfish refill we were ready for the check and to-go boxes. The portion size for the red beans was big, and there were no complaints. Eating at Don's in Covington last week just confirmed for me that all locations are the same--tiny portions of overpriced food, with mediocre customer service. read more

Amazing Amazing! They were very busy it was a Friday night around 7:30. It only took about 10 minutes to get seated though and it was a great ambience, tvs lots of ppl. We had the fried alligator and fried crab claws for appetizer they were perfect! Crisp, fresh and tasty. Next we had a cup of crawfish bisque and a cup of seafood gumbo both awesome! Just the right spice and flavor. My husband had dons seafood platter which was super, lots of food, fresh and delicious. My son and I both had ribeyes with green beans and mac n cheese. The steaks were absolutely perfect, juicy, seared just right and tasty. Even the sides were perfect. My other son had the chicken ravioli it was fresh juicy great sauce, large pieces of garlic bread. My little one had the kids corn dogs and grilled cheese which according to him were filled with deliciousness!! The service was impeccable. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. She even spoke to the kids making sure they had everything they needed and their food was good. It was a great experience and if we ever visit here again we will definitely be back!!! read more

in a word - sucks. Went with another couple, first of all saw our waiter watching our table get cleaned and us seated. Waited an eternity for him to acknowledge us and only after my wife stood up to get someone did he show up. We got chargrilled oysters as an appetizer. at first, we were going to get 1 dozen but I asked if we could get 1/2 chargrilled and 1/2 jacked up. Come to find out, he charged us the 1/2 dozen price for each which is $6.00 more. These were the smallest oysters that I have ever seen, they looked too small to harvest. Also no bread or anything. Ordered the entrees, a seafood combo and my wife asked if the crab claws could be ordered as an entree. Our waiter informed us that they could be and it would come with 1 side but couldn't give a price. After another eternity wait finally got our food and my wife's order came with Dons potatoes and green beans. They were old, stale and hard to get the meat off of the claw. I got 2 oysters with my combo. I had to ask for cocktail and tarter sauce and you would have thought I asked for a free meal. The bill was the only that was fast to show up coming very shortly after the entrees. Found out that the crab claw dinner was $22.00. Seventy dollars for a meal I could have got at Long John Silver. Don't waste your time and money. There are several better places in Louisiana to eat. read more

I really don't like giving a bad review unless the service was terrible, but this was just not tasty at all. The food is chain food, previously cooked and frozen type seafood. At best it was prepared in some warehouse kitchen, frozen and shipped from some strange place. I had the shrimp dinner. The hush puppies were like rocks. The stuffed shrimp was just awful. All the food was very peppery. The cup of crawfish gumbo was strange. The fried shrimp were fried so hard that it was difficult to eat. My mouth is sore from trying to eat them. The jacked up shrimp and shrimp au gratin was just terrible. The service was efficient. Most of the staff was pleasant. I will never go there again nor would I recommend it to anyone. I know this is strong and again I really hate to write this but I just couldn't let this pass. One of my friends has fried catfish and it was tasteless and it was fried so hard and was so crunchy that it too was difficult to eat. My other two companions said the same thing about their food. I spent over $30 including tip (no beverage) on my food and it was worse than any cheap fast food seafood restaurant I've ever visited. read more
