We came here after the insistence/kidnapping of a mutual friend. It was packed on a Sunday morning and our large group of 11 had to sit in different sections of the diner. Our service was decent and the coffee person came around often. Half of us had the Huevos rancheros with hash browns and the others had variations differently cooked eggs. The huevos rancheros consist of two eggs sunny side up on top of cheese, sausage, salsa and yolk. The sausage was a bit hard and not fully cooked. it should have been cooked on the grill separately to give it that browning taste. The hash browns were soggy and not fully cooked. A little bit more golden and they would have hit the spot. The one good thing about the whole experience is that we got to play doctor with our food. read more

I've been really impressed with the service in the restaurants and cafes on the keys. Doc's diner was no exception. Again very accommodating to some changes in the extensive menu. Loved the hash browns here. I expect eggs, breakfast items and such would be good too. Can't comment on the coffee, didn't have one. Being an Aussie we are rather fussy in how we like our coffee- lattes, macchiato and such. But if you need good tucker, that is filling and reasonably priced here's one diner to keep on the list. read more

Stopped here on the way to key west with my family. Excellent customer service, delicious food. You won't find this kind of home-cooked feel everywhere. We had tropical French toast, a hashlet and a breakfast burrito. Everything was delicious and we all left full and so happy! I recommend stopping here if you're in the area and looking for delicious breakfast or brunch (or lunch). Our waitress was attentive and helpful. I probably should have listened to the yelpers picks for food. I went with the Tuna Melt, which the waitress said is a specialty. The tuna was drowned in mayo and the cheese was barely melted on bread that wasn't toasted, so it was soggy and gross. My wife had the daily special which she liked. Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans. The side salads were kind of slapped together and not very tasty. A huge slab of onion is a bit of a turn-off on a salad. The service was pleasant but not very attentive. I had to wait a while to flag our waitress down for a piece of the key lime pie. It was very good, by the way. I know people rave about this place. I would like to have been in their camp. Unfortunately I join the grumblers and I'll look for another joint in the area like Mrs. B's to try. read more

Why must people be so miserable? I grew up in Key Largo and have been eating here since this place was Ganim's- things have changed. I arrived at 5:56am and the grumpy heavy set waitress looked at me standing outside in the humidity and made me wait outside until 6:01. I said "Good morning"- nothing. A nice diner across where my friends and I went snorkeling. It was super packed early morning. Thank god the wait wasn't that long for us since we came before the rushed hour. We were warned to come hungry. We did, but were still surprised at the amount of food served. This place is jammed packed for breakfast. Locals and tourists eat here. I had the burrito and subbed basted eggs for the scrambled at no additional fee. There was plenty of meat, in the burrito, as well as beans on the plate. There was a little side portion of fresh lettuce and diced tomatoes which complimented my the plate well. I asked for hot sauce also. Doc's makes their own jalapeño sauce which I enjoyed. Hubby had the classic chicken fried steak which he reported to be very tender with lots of gravy. He liked the crispy hash browns too. Both meals, including one iced tea only came to around $20. this is definitely a must for breakfast or brunch or even lunch... i would even dare say it's probably one of the favorites for Key Largo residents... it's got all the staples and then you got some interesting options that has the local signature on it like the Flagler's Train Wreck which is skillet made to perfection served w grits or hash browns and choice of toast... the coffee flows until your heart's content... there is plenty of seating... the decor is nothing out of this world but at least it's clean and orderly and there is available parking both front and back and if park in the back there's an entrance there as well... i had a blackened mahi w two over medium eggs served w rye toast and hash browns and side order of chunky salsa topped w cholula hot sauce and needless to say, there was not much left for the dishwasher to do because it was that good... and if that wasn't enough i shared a short stack of banana nut pancakes w pecans and maple syrup and that certainly hit all the right spots... this place certainly helps you start the day off right even if the day starts at 11a! here's a tip for all you claustrophobic patrons... the bathrooms are a bit a-la-alice-in-wonderland so if you are tall and/or wide, it may be a bit of challenge to use the facilities... the wait staff appears to work a pyramid system which is good for the customers because that means constant attention which helps keep the fluids replenished and your tummy safisfied. for all you deal junkies: if you looking for a good deal - this is it!!! ...very fairly priced menu filled w gems and there's even a 10% off yelp coupon for all to use!!! so if you are passing by on the way to KW or doing a day trip in the area, check it out! you won't be disappointed! cheers! see ya on the water! read more

Mmmmm, gotta love a down-home diner. Be forewarned though, you will leave STUFFED. The food is of rib-sticking kind but when you are about to spend a day in the ocean snorkeling your little heart out it's a good idea to fill up so you have the energy to fend off any jellies that are waiting to sting.
