Started with the lobster bisque, which was good with crackers and just as good without. Got the larger size and it was genuinely a big bowl, loaded with nice thin chunks of lobster. The Matecumbe was the standout of the night. Yellow tail with rice and black beans. Best flavor of everything we ordered. Also had the shrimp and scallop key lime, which was a large portion and very good. The mushrooms were a nice touch, and it comes with rice, corn, and coleslaw. One of the owners, Chris mentioned a 45 minute wait but got us set up at the bar within five minutes. We were grateful for that. I had asked him, should we wait or just move on? Before going to Key Largo, I researched the best restaurants in the area and The Fish House seems to top most lists. I can say that it's a must hit destination when you're in Key Largo. It's a casual spot with old world charm and a friendly staff. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks, apps, and dessert. Everything was good and we decided we would return again before leaving Key Largo. We had the lobster bisque, crabcake, drunken shrimp, peel and eat shrimp, oysters key largo, angels on horseback, and key lime pie. Wow, extremely busy local seafood restaurant. Arrived on Saturday night without a reservation and waited only ten minutes for a table. They had a port hole on both sides of the dining room with moving water. A few of the meals were market price and had to ask the server who needed to smile more but was attentive. The grilled mahi-mahi was excellent and the crispy fries were good too. Not too many places have great cole slaw but this one was sweet with a nice texture. We stopped at The Fish House on the way to Key West, mostly because the owner is married to my mom's cousin and we wanted to try her restaurant! She was not there, did not know we were coming and our meal was not comped, so this is an honest review. The place was super busy and two of the waitstaff were assigned to each table. The menu is almost entirely seafood, which is why it's called The Fish House. There is a steak and I saw chicken, but the rest all comes from the sea. Not being someone who likes fish often, I went with my favorite, Mahi-Mahi. There are several options for seasoning and I did the Jamaican jerk. I really, really enjoyed it! It had great flavors and the fish just melted. I got rice and beans as my sides and the black beans were cooked in bay leaves and some kind of seasoning and paired really well together. My mom got coconut shrimp and my dad got some kind of scallops and shrimp over rice and it also had mushrooms in it. I didn't get a photo of his food. We were also convinced to try the Key Lime pie, which was my least favorite of our meal. This one had a meringue on top and I didn't like that addition. The pie was also not as tart as I'd like so personally the pie was more a 3 but the rest of the meal was definitely a 4. Cute inside and has lots of personality. There is also some outdoor seating although that wasn't open when we were there. Would 100 percent recommend stopping here on your drive through the Florida Keys. read more

So The Fish House was a bright spot in an otherwise uninspiring culinary experience during our most recent trip to the Florida Keys, The restaurant itself has some serious homegrown Florida vibes with many unique decorations and accoutrements all over the restaurant, loosely pirate themed. It was featured on Diners Drive In's and Dives as well. We were seated in a little alcove near the entrance which gave our group a private space. Service was prompt and friendly and we really enjoyed the whole thing. I got the mahi mahi maracumbe style, which was recommended by our server as a house specialty. It did not disappoint! It was light, flavorful, and quite surprisingly really one of the most delicious fish dishes I've ever had at a restaurant. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. Flying in to Florida that morning, our Day 1 lunch was at The Fish House. Arriving at 11:30am on a Saturday, we were immediately seated and given menus. My wife picked the fried cracked conch and fries while I selected the Jamaican jerk mango mahi sandwich with a side of coleslaw, and we both had waters. We all enjoyed the nautical novelty theme of the dining room, and felt badly for whomever had to change the bulbs in the hundreds of lights running across the ceiling. The video 'port holes' were also a fresh new twist. The tables were very close together, and it was difficult to go to the restroom without bumping into someone. Speaking of the restrooms, my wife and I both hated the coconut salt soap you had to spoon up to wash your hands. Our food was ready pretty quickly, and everyone agreed it was good to very good. My blackened mahi was -as advertised- lightly blackened without being overpowered, and tasted very good, and likewise with the coleslaw. My wife said her fried cracked conch was flavourful and good, but not as tender as she has enjoyed elsewhere. Service was a bit slow, and getting water refills took some time, as did getting our bills. Pros: décor, fresh seafood selection, good to very good flavours Cons: fresh seafood is always expensive (even in the Florida), slow-ish service, everyone touching the same soap spoon in the restroom squicked us all out Overall we found The Fish House to be Good, and would return. read more

The only positive thing I can say about Fish House is that the staff was friendly and the service was quick. Unfortunately, good service can't make up for prices that are completely out of touch with reality. I came here expecting fresh local seafood, not sticker shock. We spent nearly $100 for two people, one appetizer, and absolutely no alcoholic beverages. That's outrageous for what we received. The Snapper Fish & Chips was especially disappointing. Over $40 for a fish-and-chips basket is ridiculous, regardless of what type of fish is being used. It's not as if you're serving a massive portion of fish. The sautéed snapper tasted better, but even that dish felt overpriced, especially when it's being served with rice and beans. What makes it even harder to understand is that this is the Florida Keys, surrounded by water and known for seafood. Yet the menu prices make it feel like the fish was flown in from another continent. The quality simply doesn't justify the cost. I don't mind paying premium prices for an exceptional meal. What I do mind is paying premium prices for average portions and ordinary food. Fish House has friendly employees and fast service, but those positives aren't enough to overcome the absurd pricing. There are too many other restaurants in the Keys offering better value. I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this place to anyone looking for a reasonably priced seafood meal. read more

Dec. 2025 We were here ten months ago and sat inside. It was crowded back then, and again this time during the Christmas season. This place has gotten some upgrades to their outdoor patio with a mobile bar with overly loud music and portable toilets which is nice since there is only one toilet inside for each gender, but the two servers outside were overwhelmed with people and weren't very attentive for the outside space. The lobster bisque was horrible with no lobster flavor and was an amalgamation of gelatinous roux. Do not get. The clam chowder was not fresh either and tasted like it was from a can. It just seems that the attention to detail on homemade items is just not there. I'll not waste your time reading about all the poor food preparation and how inattentive our server was. I'll not come back until I know their food and their servers are better. Might be a year or two as there are plenty of other places to enjoy a good meal. read more

We had an OK experience at The Fish House... lots of glitz and glitter, but we food the food mostly lacking... with a couple of exceptions! We had cocktails (coconut martini and Cadillac margaritas), both good. Appetizers included the crab cake and smoked fish appetizer... crab cake, average, fresh, but we prefer the NE lump crab style. Smoked fish, while unique, we found it underwhelming. Entrees included the fried seafood combo and the matecumbe yellowfin. Most of the fried seafood was old, overcooked. Exception the fried scallops, they were outstanding! Similarly, the yellowfin matecumbe was fantastic. Those two seafoods were exceptional. Desserts included coconut ice cream, frozen ice cube of coconut, and coconut key lime pie. Not sure what was on top of the pie, but the putty, spongy pink topped coconut was weird. Came here specifically for the key lime pie! It was highly recommended! The ambiance here is really cute. A lot of people visiting but it worked like a fine oiled machine. Service was fast and they had more than enough workers to run the place. I ordered at the register. This was my first key lime in the keys. And it didn't disappoint! We stopped for lunch on our way down to Key West. The gravel parking is plentiful and sets the stage for the tasty lunch we had. The restaurant is vintage and you really feel the atmosphere as you walk to the door. The inside is cool and dark. The waiter greeted us with a smile and pointed us to a booth quickly! The menu is just what I expected from a highway adjacent, watering hole in Key Largo! We quickly agreed on the fried clam strips and the peel and eat shrimp. They were both delicious! Ambiance: interesting LED lights everywhere on the ceiling but it gave me a touristy vibe. Lighting is dim. Space: a little tight and I had to walk on egg-shells, being careful not brush past other people or trip over anything in the dimly lit rooms. Conclusion: would I return? This was the best restaurant we found all week during spring bike week 2025. We rolled up at 8pm on a Thursday and there was a 20 minute wait to get in so we knew we had found something special, thanks Yelp! First off...huge water glasses! I hate restaurants with small glasses. I like to have a lot of water to drink when I'm eating and this place has it figured out. So much of the giant menu looks amazing it's almost impossible to choose your feast. I couldn't so I ended up ordering two appetizers are my meal. The shrimp bundles are large shrimp marinated in garlic, honey, and lemon juice, wrapped in a fresh basil leaf and prosciutto ham, then baked...you should definitely get these. I also ordered the coconut shrimp which came with a mango dipping sauce. They were perfect as far as coconut shrimp go. Now the coup de grace....the freaking coconut keylime pie is the best keylime pie I've ever had. For years of visiting the keys and trying dozens of key lime pies, none of them were that great...the Florida Keys are redeemed! I would go back here just for the pie, no joke. Amaze-balls. The restaurant is small and very cozy and is decorated to the max giving it a ton of character that you don't get when you visit chains. There is a decent sized bar at the front but it's not first come first serve, you need to see the host for seats there as well. When we got there, there was a wait for the bar also but it was shorter than the wait for a table. Service was really good, we had two servers, not sure if that's normal or if they were just training someone. The last thing is they have an actual seafood market inside where you can buy things like spiny lobsters or fresh caught local fish and take them home and cook them...but with a restaurant that makes food this good why would you? Now the only thing bad I can say about my entire experience is about the parking lot....it's a good parking lot for cars...but for motorcycles not so much. The gravel is so deep we practically got stuck and the bikes would spin into it. I'm not sure if you can park out by the road but I wouldn't take my bike on the parking lot again. read more
