I must admit I was already pretty wasted by the time I got here. I do remember the clam chowder being pretty good. Nothing like San Francisco chowder but still good. The coconut shrimp was delicious as hell. And we also ordered the sampler and met some people at the bar. Don't remember much about the food after that. Those drinks were strong. One thing I do remember is almost being stranded. We took a Lyft because obviously we were drinking so responsibilities you know. Always a pleasure. After the jet skis we came over for lunch and drinks. Bahama mama, Gilbert's punch, and pina coladas were all well received. The band is playing, volume isn't prohibitively high, but you do raise your voice a bit to talk. You don't have to scream though. Service is excellent, you never feel rushed here, even though the food came out really quickly. Laid back island feeling you'd expect. Candelario is phenomenal, made us feel right at home. They do charge an automatic 18% gratuity and a 3% credit card fee; the credit card fees popping up everywhere annoys the he'll out of me. We had been told by some friends to come and I'm so glad we did! Tracy was our server and an absolute doll. Explaining the menu and making sure that we didn't need anything. She came often to clear a plate or fill a glass. Live music was such a great addition to eating out doors. As we ate, one band finished and another was setting up. As Miami locals, always ready to take the drive down to keys paradise on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. As we drove, we decided to do a quick stop by Gilbert's (on the right hand side before crossing the bridge off to key largo) for a drink and a bite. We sat all the way by the shore line overlooking the bay. Great music was playing, great ambiance all around while sipping on our rum runners and enjoying conch fritters. We only had conch fritters as a quick bite because we were going to continue driving south . The consistency of the fritters were excellent and taste was just right. Service was excellent. I love Gilbert's Tiki Bar. We found it by exploring the area. A giant Tiki Hut right by the water with a small private sandy beach with people swimming, jet skiing, boating, and paddleboarding. Not to mention beautiful birds flying around and some landing on the beach and gibing us a show! And a pier to go walk on. Just a great setting. Then there is their delicious food! We had the Yellowtail Snapper and a Mahi Basket. Both were very good! My daughter had a Coconut Mojito to relax by. Our server was Christian, who was friendly and attentive. We love this relaxing, beautiful, off the highway Tiki restaurant and look forward to our next visit. Oh yeah, and they are dog friendly as long as your dog is on a leash and behaves. read more

Just had lunch there for the first time in 10 years. The frozen rum runner was 100% sugar. The fish dip came with 6 wontons and some veggies to dip with. I had a $25 hog fish sandwich w/a bag of chips. The fish was a very small piece and totally hidden under the lettuce and tomato. It was tasty but not for the price. My husband was happy with his fried mahi basket and he shared his tartar sauce with me since I never got mine, even though the $1 charge was certainly on the bill; $90 before tip. We sat at the bar and the sever was fine. I don't think we will be back anytime soon. read more

We have been here several times through the years, our latest visit was just this week. It's a stress free activity for me to do with my kids, on my own, and a fun activity to do with family and friends as well. Tiki Bar is right by the water, I love. Free parking. Plenty of tables and chairs with umbrellas on the sand. Beach area is small, which I don't mind. Ordering drinks and food while you are relaxing and the kids are playing in the little beach area feels like you're on vacation. Service is usually good. Sometimes there's live music. We have never stayed in the resort, as we are less than one hour from here, but for those traveling from far and probably going to Key West, that's an option. Going later in the day and catching the sunset makes a trip down here extra nice. read more

I think they forgot the rum. Very disappointed. We ordered the hogfish sandwich. The fish part was fine but the rest was very soggy. They said there was an up charge for that fish but we didn't mind because it was supposed to be fantastic. A $9 up charge for maybe 5 oz piece of fish. Gilbert's is known as the Key's meetup/hotspot when you're in town for the long holiday weekends or simply with your fellow boaters and need to recharge. It's a large tiki hut - give me roadhouse vibes and has it's own little beach for the families with kids. We swooped in by boat for a quick lunch before heading to the sandbar so we filled up on some oysters, sandwiches and grilled mahi platter. No pics here as it was a rather hot day and it took a little while to find us a table. Holiday weekends are certainly busy so be prepared to wait for a table and a boat slip. read more

I was on my way back from marathon and ever since our first trip to key largo my husband has always wanted to bring me here and stay at the resort. No resort but on our way back from marathon we stopped. The tiki bar is just okay, I would not recommend but I would not also deny me ever going there. My husband and I started with two alcoholic beverages. I'm allergic to strawberry so I ordered something that didn't state it had strawberry in it! Turns out all their flavored frozen drinks are pre mixed and have strawberry mixed into it which sucked ! I ordered the conch fritters, tasted like a deep frozen batter ball fried in oil that maybe real seafood was cooked in. My husband ordered coconut shrimp, red lobster puts them to shame and I'm not even a fan of red lobster. So that says a lot !!! Thank goodness I was turned off by having to wait 20 mins for another drink and the horrible appetizers wanting to leave because 2 drinks and 2 appetizers (5 small battered balls with hard rubber like imitation conch and 6 frozen meal like coconut shrimp, no lemon or lime to hopefully make it better) came out to 70 dollars not including tip. The view is decent around 5ish 6 they close the access to the beach part of the tiki bar. Most likely due to crocodiles. I wouldn't go back nor would I advise anyone to waste their money there . But I will say maybe you have to stay at the resort ? For the full experience. I know I'll pass on the full experience. read more

We just had lunch at Gilbert's. Things to be aware of. I ordered the BBQ ribs for $25 and they sent out cocktail sauce, when I told them about the mistake they said they were out of BBQ sauce. I never would have ordered them if I had known, there were other things I had considered. We read in advance that there was a 3% credit card fee, that was expected. When we received our bill there was an 18% "service fee" added....,what was that for?? Be aware that smoking is allowed in the bar area and drifts everywhere, so if you don't like smoke you may want to avoid this establishment. I hadn't even touched my ribs as I waited for my BBQ sauce for about 10 minutes, they didn't even offer me the option to order something else. The atmosphere was nice & our waitress was nice.
