I actually had this marked in one of my culinary collections, so I was super excited to try it and give my opinion. I learned in the Keys that most business' don't answer the phone, but after 3 days I just made the drive. I spoke with a nice man sitting on one of the patio tables that was eating a coconut, that it usually opens when someone feels like it. It was an hour past their posted time. As my daughter and I were leaving, she noticed a vehicle in the parking lot with the Mar Bar brand on it. It was one of the owners. She told me they weren't opening that day because they were waiting on stone crab, but try next weekend. Sadly, I had to leave on Tuesday and never got to eat there. read more

The waiter was so rude I thought he wanted to fight or something. Initially, I thought he was kidding, but he truly was a total jerk. I have been to every bar in Islamorada and never seen anything like it. In fact, I live in a beach town just like this and have just never seen someone this unhappy to be "serving". Very weird experience. We had our stone crab claws, paid them, and got out of there. I won't be back. read more

Probably "the place" to find Stone Crab claws near Isle Morada in mid Oct when season on these had just opened. Very good pricing for the area. Dont expect atmosphere that is anything more than a bare bones dock side experience. Not obvious to locate. Beer and food menu pretty limited. Two people running the bar and service were polite and attentive. read more

Hidden Gem, locals raw bar located behind a fish market nestled on the water. Came for the $5 stone crab claws that the bartenders cracks right behind the bar and hands them to you. Wow there they fresh. If you visit the keys be sure to stop here you will not be disappointed! read more

Stone crab. Number one food I wanted to eat while in the area. I paid so much high price to eat stone crab in Miami before and was looking for more economical way to enjoy stone crab. Not too far drive from Key Largo, I was so happy to find this place on Yelp. Stone crab was $3 each! My only regret was I didn't have a hotel booked nearby. I had to drive two more hours to key west after this, so I didn't have any drinks. I wish I know then I would have stayed nearby to enjoy SUP, then eat crabs and oysters with a glass of white wine. I bet a chilled white wine paired so well with the food. I guess I need to come back to this area again. read more

The Mar Bar is the spot for good vibes and great food! We stumbled upon it looking for a drink and some apps and we hit the jackpot. Our bartender Brandon was awesome. Super friendly and welcoming and took good care of us! We had the shrimp ceviche and the local beers and loved it! They are known for their snow crabs but also offer great options like fish dip , ceviche and oysters. It's a typical tiki hut bar on the water with great local beer, wine and a few munchie options. The bartender was super nice and attentive even though she seemed to be the only one working there to wait tables. Love this little gem. Fresh seafood right off the boat, the best fish dip, wonderfully priced and delicious crab claws, we like the expanded menu with chicken wings that are baked with a crispy outside and moist center-baked perfectly. The outdoor simple keys atmosphere is exactly why we go. Mariela and her son are great people. Our favorite is to buy a bottle of Prosecco and crab claws makes for a perfect snack. A nice local spot recommended to us. Quiet and tucked back in a small shopette against a canal. Pretty scenery and outdoors. There is a nice selection of alcohol and small food fare. This a great place. A true hidden gem in the keys. Their home made fish dip is spectacular!!. And they have freshest stone crabs since the boats dock right there next to the Mar Bar bringing their daily catch. This place is always a very welcoming with a great mix of locals and out of towners too. I love watching the boats go by while having a cold beer and good food. read more

Mediocre service and drinks. The bartender spent her time not behind the bar and at a table chatting with friends. They were out of the ingredients for the drink I wanted and my husband was disappointed with his margarita. The coupon for a free beer when you check in was not honored. read more

Mar Bar, Tavernier, Florida Stopped here because I was after stone crabs so this restaurant came up on my Yelp search. The place is off the main road and hidden away behind a main building. We had to asked a local fisherman where the place was. We were a bit confused to find a small local bar with a great canal view. The patrons were all local and somewhat friendly. The bar attendant was nice and asked what we were looking for, unfortunately stone crabs were out of season. She offered the sandwich shop next door as a good dining option or the only two items the bar sells: smoked fish dip with chips and a shrimp ceviche. We ordered both and within minutes we had our two items. The food was super fresh, delicious and light. The only downside was it was pricey for one beer, one ice tea and those 2 items (we paid $32.00). The environment was cool but not for us. It was more of a local hangout than a visitors / tourist environment. Would we go again? I don't think so. I even forgot to take pictures of the food. I took pictures of the beautiful view. read more

I don't recommend a place that doesn't have the courtesy to fix their working hours online and makes you think they are open you make the trip for nothing. We have eaten there three other times and always order and enjoy the fresh stone crabs. This time they were lousy. This is because they were not fresh like advertised. They were obviously frozen. Our group has been eating crabs forever. We know the difference. When they are fresh, the meat comes right of the shell. When they have been frozen, the meat sticks to the shell and they are a pain in the A** to eat. We relayed this to the server and she was indignant and swore they were fresh. No Way Jose read more

11 months later from my first review & visit and this is now my favorite hang out spot! Mar Bar is always improving, as the Have way more than just Stone Crabs! The oysters, ceviche, fish dip & Frose (Frozen Rose) are amazing. Also, you can order even more amazing food from What the Fish Rolls and More & they bring it to you! It's absolutely wonderful and my Boyfriend and I come all the time :) PS I highly recommend going next door to PADDLE before and renting paddle boards then going to Mar Bar/What the Fish Rolls & More. Doesn't get better than that for a perfect day in the beautiful Florida Keys!!! read more

Do they have a fan club? Count me in. The Mar Bar is a hugely informal bar with few food options. The stone crab claws were 4 bucks a piece in Feb 2022. Delicious and fun to eat. We also had oysters and the fish spread. All delicious. One harried waitress handled the entire joint, so the service wasn't too fast but the vibe is so comfortable, who cares if the service isn't great? read more

We looked around for a place that had stone crab claws and we found this hidden gem. Nice small bar on the canal. Great to chill and have a beer and watch the boats go by, maybe see a manatee.
