I actually had this marked in one of my culinary collections, so I was super excited to try it and give my opinion. I learned in the Keys that most business' don't answer the phone, but after 3 days I just made the drive. I spoke with a nice man sitting on one of the patio tables that was eating a coconut, that it usually opens when someone feels like it. It was an hour past their posted time. As my daughter and I were leaving, she noticed a vehicle in the parking lot with the Mar Bar brand on it. It was one of the owners. She told me they weren't opening that day because they were waiting on stone crab, but try next weekend. Sadly, I had to leave on Tuesday and never got to eat there. read more

Stone crab. Number one food I wanted to eat while in the area. I paid so much high price to eat stone crab in Miami before and was looking for more economical way to enjoy stone crab. Not too far drive from Key Largo, I was so happy to find this place on Yelp. Stone crab was $3 each! My only regret was I didn't have a hotel booked nearby. I had to drive two more hours to key west after this, so I didn't have any drinks. I wish I know then I would have stayed nearby to enjoy SUP, then eat crabs and oysters with a glass of white wine. Super friendly and welcoming and took good care of us! We had the shrimp ceviche and the local beers and loved it! They are known for their snow crabs but also offer great options like fish dip , ceviche and oysters. It's a typical tiki hut bar on the water with great local beer, wine and a few munchie options. We had to asked a local fisherman where the place was. We were a bit confused to find a small local bar with a great canal view. The patrons were all local and somewhat friendly. The bar attendant was nice and asked what we were looking for, unfortunately stone crabs were out of season. She offered the sandwich shop next door as a good dining option or the only two items the bar sells: smoked fish dip with chips and a shrimp ceviche. We ordered both and within minutes we had our two items. The food was super fresh, delicious and light. The only downside was it was pricey for one beer, one ice tea and those 2 items (we paid $32.00). The environment was cool but not for us. It was more of a local hangout than a visitors / tourist environment. Would we go again? I don't think so. I even forgot to take pictures of the food. 11 months later from my first review & visit and this is now my favorite hang out spot! Mar Bar is always improving, as the Have way more than just Stone Crabs! The oysters, ceviche, fish dip & Frose (Frozen Rose) are amazing. Also, you can order even more amazing food from What the Fish Rolls and More & they bring it to you! It's absolutely wonderful and my Boyfriend and I come all the time :) PS I highly recommend going next door to PADDLE before and renting paddle boards then going to Mar Bar/What the Fish Rolls & More. Do they have a fan club? Count me in. The Mar Bar is a hugely informal bar with few food options. The stone crab claws were 4 bucks a piece in Feb 2022. Delicious and fun to eat. We also had oysters and the fish spread. All delicious. One harried waitress handled the entire joint, so the service wasn't too fast but the vibe is so comfortable, who cares if the service isn't great? read more
