I got here toward the end of the day so I had the deck to myself for the most part and enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the water. The view is impossible to beat, and the waitress said sometimes they even have crocodiles and manatees that come through! I mostly saw birds and fish but still a fun experience. The food was pretty good, I got a sampler of the sides which ended up being way too much for one person! I liked the crab cakes a lot. The staff were very friendly and hospitable. read more

Was excited to check out Alabama Jacks! The vibe is low key and divey, but the service is great. Food was just okay. We had the combo plate with crab cakes, fried fish, and conch fritters and fried fish salad. The conch fritters here were the best I've ever had, but the fried fish and crab cakes were just okay. The portions here are ginormous, especially the combo plate. Parking is along the highway. So definitely look around before you cross the street read more

The food was great! We shared the conch fritters and some fries and they were fresh, crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Heavenly. The service was friendly and it was a slow hot day, so I felt bad for the servers. The view was amazing! It was our first time there, although we've been to the Keys many times. The only single complaint I have is that they did not have any Deep Eddy Vodka, although it is featured in their signature cocktails. They only had Smirnoff, so it was a pass for me on a cocktail. The server said they are having supply issues for months, and I totally understand. They should update their drink menu. Other than that, if you are driving to the FL Keys, I would certainly stop at this place. read more

Having family in Miami, we are INUNDATED with suggestions for food places! This was one I decided to visit on my own while visiting my Alabama boy at UM. I was so pleasantly surprised at how much like home it felt. Not flashy or pretentious, but comfortable atmosphere, gold beer and delicious food. Complete with a view that we were able to watch manatee swim by. The conch fritters were so tasty, but next time I will choose the marinated salad version. Our fish Rueben was weird, but AMAZING! My blackened fish sandwich was perfect. 3 beer and our bill was $70. read more

We were told to go for the conch fritters which did not disappoint. We got half an order since it was just 2 of us, and it was more than enough as an appetizer. We broth had blackened mahi tacos, which were so flavorful. They did lettuce wraps for a gluten free option. We had rum drinks as we listened to live music and watched the fish in the river. Great spot. Not fancy, but food was great and service was good. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Key Largo. read more

To keep it simple: chill ambience, good food, GREAT prices, and a warm atmosphere of welcome. The staff was great, on top of our drinks and gave us good food recommendations for food that actually saved us money! The band was great and the atmosphere was so serene, right on the water. Can't beat it, happy to come back! read more

As a local that visits 4 times plus a year..I might get lucky eating here once a year. They make up their own hours... what a disappoint most of the time. I hope they open up another restraunt serving the conch fritters nearby and go out of business. How does a business run with closing 3 hours before they are suppose too every damn day of the week...making every excuse in the book every time I visit... it's not worth the disappointment anymore. Go to Gilbert's or anywhere in the keys instead of trying this disappointment establishment. Unless you get their upon opening..everything else is disappointing. read more

Went to Jacks today. Seated promptly at 12:15. Sat down ordered drinks sand food. Then it happened. The bugs assaulted us like they were getting last meal. Food came and it wasn't much better. Fried shrimp was very fishy. Never had fishy tasting fried shrimp.. conch fritters were all very chewy. The fried fish was very fishy. Sorry Jack the 90 dollar lunch was not worth the blood the insects took and the food was sub par. read more

If you are looking for a local place/dive bar, this is it! It's right on a canal, which gives it a great vibe. The food is definitely not fancy, nor should it be. We got the small seafood sampler and I can tell you that there is nothing small about it - two of us barely made a dent in it. The fried shrimp were our favorite. The fried fish and conch fritters were pretty good too. The mac and cheese was nice and creamy and surprisingly good. Also recommend the punch. Skip the crab cakes. read more

I don't know why the reviews here are so mixed! This place is clearly an institution (no other restaurants around for miles!) and knows what it is trying to be. We had a blast trying local fried seafood (their conch fritters really are amazing) and taking in the old Florida vibes. Definitely worth a detour on Old Card Sound Road! read more

As the meme goes, Alabama Jacks shall be protected at all costs from gentrification! Alabama Jack's is located on the "back road" to the Keys (Card Sound Road), and thus on route with cool urban exploration stops (abandoned military communications bases & antennas) as well as the road to high end Ocean Reef club. There is street parking on the side of the restaurant as well as literally across the street. Once you're inside, you wait to be seated. The hostess will try to accommodate waterfront seating (ask for this). Besides watching the boats cruise you end up with a little farmers tan. The decor is rustic roadhouse featuring a lot of old license plates and the music similarly rustic. It looks like they have space for a live band as well. Alabama Jacks would be like the dive bar / roadhouse straight from central casting. The crowd was a cool mix of locals, boaters, tourists and anyone in between. This the vibe you come for! Since it was during the daytime and I had a long drive, I had a soda (free refills!) i ordered their teriyaki chicken sandwich with cheese (an extra 50 cents) but it tasted like regular grilled chicken with sweet bbq sauce, served open face on a burger bun with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. My sweet potato fries were extra (the burger doesn't come with sides) and could have been a little crispier but still all good. Keeping with the southern and keys vibe, I ordered a deliciously fluffy key lime pie. read more

I'm only giving it 2 stars because of the live music and the canal scenery; it would be zero. I also loved that they had wet wipes at the table. No hostess, so it took over an hour for the waitresses to seat the huge line of people waiting one at a time, despite at least 7 tables being free. I'd have to estimate maybe 2 dozen tables for 6 waitresses, and the service was abysmal. She didn't know she was out of sweet tea, so she brought unsweet was a nice assumption, but to get the new drinks, it took another 30 minutes at least because she had to wait for ice. I ordered a burger medium rare, and our table corrected her when she repeated back medium well. The burger, unfortunately, came well done. Sent it back. The next one came out cold. The bun was also cold. Like out of the fridge and on my plate. I asked to send it back, but by then, the rest of my group was done eating, so I just ate the rare, cold burger. Disgusting. Spent maybe 3 hours there because of the slow service. Could use a manager to be in charge. Mediocre dive bar at best. read more

Alabama Jack's is one of those awesome laid-back spots where you can relax, enjoy good food, have a drink, and even pull up by boat. The atmosphere is casual and fun, but what really keeps us coming back is the service, especially Deya. Every time we visit, she's incredibly quick to greet us, get us seated, and make sure we're taken care of with a genuinely friendly attitude. The fresh shrimp has always been excellent, but outstanding service like hers is what really makes the experience memorable. Deya is a big reason we look forward to coming back. read more

Food and service . Apparently very understaffed on Sunday afternoon . Service was slow due to the waitress had to pour her own drinks . Bartender was. Hating up his buddies at the end of the bar . Do not eat the shrimp . They are the cheap foreign one that they warn us about. They are mushy and have a dirty brown ting to them . The Che k never came so we added up the bill and left the cash on the table . I don't need to come back. read more

Stopping at Alabama Jack is how we officially enter the keys. It's a total dive bar that is the perfect intro to the Keys. The place is large and open on all sides so it's kind of a massive covered patio. We stop her primarily for the conch fritters and it never disappoints. It's a must try. They have a variety of food options with plenty of seafood on the menu. Service is always great as well. Only meh is that the bathrooms aren't really great and trash was overflowing with no TP last time we visited but, that matches the overall vibe and not enough to deter us from visiting again! read more

Came here with a large group for lunch last Saturday. Food came reasonably quickly for such a large group. I ordered the wings, mild, which I know wasn't a very local thing to do, but hey. As an 'appetizer', the wings don't come with any sides (except blue cheese dressing, which was enough for this blue cheese lover); but there are twelve pieces. Had to try the Key Lime Pie while I was in the Keys: this one was superb: mildly flavored, soft, lots of whipped cream. Service was good. Ambiance was nice: wide open to the surroundings and no bugs in sight. As a bonus, the license plate collection hung all around allowed me and my neighbor to discover that we grew up maybe five miles apart in Iowa! read more

Conch fritters were good and the atmosphere was fun (the fish and birds kept us entertained while we waited for our food), but my wife and I both agreed that it wasn't worth a 40 minute round trip drive in the opposite direction of where we needed to go. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad - my blackened fish was tasty - it just didn't seem worth the drive (or the price). read more

Its just one of those places you have to make a slight detour to on your way home. THEY HAVE THE BEST CONCH FRITTERS EVER! The view takes a close 2nd. lol Sit around the rail so you can see the Manatee swim by and if you are lucky you can spot some tiny Pike fish feeding around the side of the restaurant. I love the feel this place gives, very laid back and you can wear very very casual as no one cares!! Stop in next time you are on your way home to Florida and you won't be disappointed. A fun place to stop while traveling from Miami to Key West. The restaurant is right on the water and has a perfect breeze blowing through. Our server was super nice, and the service was fairly quick considering how busy it was. The food was absolutely amazing, but the drinks were just okay. They were also out of a lot of ingredients for both the food and drink, but our server was accommodating and made alternate recommendations to us. Very fun spot! read more

We used to stop here to and from the keys every time we visited the area. So, on this recent visit, we once again stopped by, this time for lunch. Oh, what a disappointment this visit was! First off, you're welcomed by a sign that says don't f'n even think about seating yourself. I guess it is supposed to be funny. But we were told to sit wherever we wanted to do so. We chose a table by the water. We both began with soups. The conch chowder was decent. And my husband said his soup was fine. That's why there are two stars for this review. My sandwich, however, was a travesty. The fish -- which was supposed to be grouper (it definitely was not) -- was so over fried in old oil that it was nearly black in color and cooked hard. Being hungry, I sandwiched it between the roll and slathered on some tartar sauce to cover the off taste. The guys sitting next to us ordered crabcakes and they came out as dark as two hockey pucks. Guess we will be skipping this place in the future. read more

Restaurant says open until 7pm online, however a rude waitress at the door will let you know they actually close as early as 5:30 on weekdays. You have to pay a $3 toll each way just to get to this restaurant so will not be planning to try again and would advise you to avoid it as well. read more

A classic Florida Keys bar with a local flare that's never been stamped out and thank goodness for that. Situated on the water with a view of the mangroves this place is off the beaten path or on the way somewhere depending on where you are in your life. We came here because we were jonesing for some conch and a cold beer. We ordered the conch fritter plate and the conch chowder. The conch fritter plate comes with two sides and neither disappointed, the potato salad was scrumptious, felt homemade. The macaroni salad was also delicious. Honestly, cannot complain about anything we had or experienced. Our waitress was lovely, the vibe was vibing, but I will say the mosquitoes were biting. They do provide off if you ask. So I did. read more

First stop here since before the Covid pandemic. In multiple previous visits we would detour down Card Sound Road just to stop for some great food. Alas, those were the good old days ... Today's lunch was such a disappointment. The Grouper was suspect and the fryer oil is turning out everything,(even the crab cakes), a dark brown. Service was prompt and good,(that is why the two stars instead of only one star). We will miss the fond memories and great food at Alabama Jack's... read more

We wanted to like this place based on the good reviews but we were quite disappointed, especially after going out of our way to come here. The atmosphere is super casual, maybe too much so with how run down everything looks and the use of cheap plastic folding tables. Service was also poor and very unwelcoming. The food was mediocre at best, with the conch fritter being really overrated and over-priced. Basically, just a huge, over-fried mass of dough with some conch sprinkled in. The other food was under-seasoned and just bland. The one cool aspect of this place is eating right next to the mangroves, but we would not return here. read more

Absolutely awful, if I could give this place a negative rating I would. To start, the place looks like a dump from the outside. When you walk in there's a sign that says "please don't effin seat yourself" but there's no host table or anyone in sight. The place was basically empty so I walked up to the bar to get the bartenders attention to hopefully get a table and she wouldn't even look in my direction. I spoke to her and she had an awful attitude, terrible way to treat a customer. Asked another person where the bathroom was later on and he wouldn't even look at me either, just pointed to the bathroom. Customer service was absolutely horrendous. Don't even get me started on how disgusting this place is. Folding tables, sticky flimsy chairs, food served on styrofoam plates, plastic silverware, filthy floors and flies all over my food. The menu says "The Best!" Under the conch fritters, it should say the absolute worst in the country. The other food we got was also garbage, especially the fries. I feel sick 10 minutes after eating that food. Honestly would love to get this place shut down, one call to the health department just might do that. I highly recommend NOT going to this place. read more

I love coming here on my way to the Keys. It's everything a dive bar in Florida should be...it's covered outdoor seating, on water, and paper plates and plastic cups. The conch fritters are the best I have had. They are different than most places in that they are large flat fritters vice small round balls..think apple fritter shaped but with conch. This trip I had the shrimp platter with fries and baked beans. The shrimp were seasoned with old bay. The fries and baked beans were just okay.
